World Cup Kits: the good, the bad and the wonky

jeudi 31 mai 2018

Thom Gibbs in the Telegraph does his regular World Cup countdown of the contenders. I wonder if Serbia away may be recycled for one of our future away kits. Peru (home and away), Mexico away and Columbia home look pretty good to me. To view the link you have to Register or Login

Goalscorer challenge

I've created a mini-league for BBSers on To view the link you have to Register or Login

The password is cd562a3e

It's a really simple format, just pick a goalscorer for every match in the World Cup (64 in total). You score a point for every goal your picks score in the match you choose them for, but you can't pick the same player twice.

You can make selections already, now the squads are all announced, or wait until up to 15 mins before each kick-off.

This competition also runs for the Premier League each season (but is limited to one pick per week).

Projector

Can anybody in the know help?

I’ve set up a projector in my front room, are there any hdmi spitters available?

At present when I want to watch the projector I have to manually swap the projector HDMI lead with the hdmi going to the TV in the back of my sky box.

The only splitters I have found need go into the tv which I can’t do as the leads have been run behind the wall, so I need one that will be placed in my sky box.

Thankyou

Missed out: Ibrahim Amadou

So, we were so close to getting this guy in the January window but not been a single mention of him yet for this window.

Would we surely not have pursued our interest and looked for a deal this summer for him?

He looks very decent and was clearly keen to join in January so surely now would be the perfect time to go back in for him.

2013 PLAY-OFF SQUAD - WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

Anyone done a trawl across all the squad who were selected for the Play Off Final of 2013 to see their subsequent careers ? Obviously we all know what happened to a number, including five (?) who were still on our books this last season. But what about a lot of the others , who all celebrated wildly as Premiership dreams came into view? What was the reality for them ?

MDMA

Whats everyones thoughts on this as a regular taker i safely test my drugs and know the exact dosages and contents and me and my friends have never had any issues. We all make a pact to stay together and if to hot we all go out together keep enough water but dont let everybody drown themselves and drop pills in Halves. Surely the solution is drug education and testing sites. At the end of the day unless you have taken it you dont understand how amazing it is and like it or not you cant stop people taking it. Surely if drug testing tents saves only one life it would be worth it. The war on drugs is a complete failure and its time for a more lenient approach?

TV Losing tuning on BBC channels

I'll dump this thread in here as this must be where the techies live.

I have a Samsung 40'' TV connected to a virgin v6 box.

Recently the TV has been losing the tuning on BBC channels but not on other terrestrial channels.

Anyone have any ideas why. Cables all connected and fit well.

Squatting just isn't the same these days

I think this article on the BBC website is a great example of what people can do and with all the empty properties about helps meet a social need. This kind of thing needs to be encouraged.

I think the P.A announcer used to say it was one of Steve Coppell's favourites.
Was this also a time when John Henty made a comeback?

There seemed to be 2 other songs constantly played at this time - Holly Johnson's 'Americanos' and Lloyd Cole's 'Lost Weekend'.

Funny the s*** you remember!

Suggestion: Bojan Krkic

Two years left on his Stoke deal been loaned out a lot and kind of the forgotten man. But there's real quality in there still young extreme quality on his day. Problems mostly in his head due to anxiety attacks. I can imagine Hughes being a complete **** about it hence binning him off. Our lot with Roy I reckon could drag him with us. Also he'd be off the bench/backup not the number one so maybe that would help him.

Matchday progerammes

With a house move coming up, am having a clear out and have dug out of my loft loads of progerammes. Does anyone else keep them? I'm minded to keep the Cup Final ones but otherwise thinking of getting rid of the rest. Does anyone else have any suggestions with what to do with them? I'm based in Hastings. Progerammes are from 1989 through to 2010 but with gaps as some years I had a season ticket and some I didn't. Not looking for a fortune, just a good home for them.

Ex-Palace Boateng, Moxey and Cronin now play for my local club though only the first two named will start today.

Did the Bright*n rivalry start here?

A fascinating video of the rivalry between Allison and Mullery. I love the reasonable way in which they argue, despite an evident dislike of each other, in sharp contrast as to how people nowadays almost always abandon objective argument in debates and resort to taking 'offense' and ad hominem attacks.

It's interesting here that we have two men who arguably fashioned the rivalry between two clubs that had little erstwhile reason to exist and yet grows every year...

Funding the NHS

Interesting article here. Obviously you will all want to praise the neoliberal quislings Tony and Gordon for the excellent state in which they left the NHS in 2010

To view the link you have to Register or Login

But has anyone got any great ideas on how to pay for it now? Personally I think there was a lot to be said for the Death Tax the PM proposed at the last election. Many of us have made huge paper profits on housing that future generations won't get. Maybe 10% of our estates could be hypothecated for the NHS? Then if I die of a heart attack suddenly in Tesco (likely) I will have to pay the same as someone needing 10 years of dementia care.

And it'll be when I'm dead so of limited concern to me.

The generation before me are getting much better pensions than I will get. And I will likely get a much better pension than my kids will get.

I don't think we can't ask young struggling workers to pay yet more for care for the older and considerably more affluent.

Unless you can do better. Neg rep for anyone who blames bankers.

Checking the legitimacy of a website

samedi 26 mai 2018

My Donkey subscription has just finished, although I was under the impression there was a couple of months left... I've been forwarded to the pay page to renew, but I've never heard of the company overseeing the transaction before, and google hasn't got much info, so I'm a bit dubious.

Can anyone recommend a site, or method that I can use to see if they are legitimate before processing? I really want to watch the CL final goddamnit!

King365Pay is the site, they appear to be based in China, but that's all I can find.

BBS Betting Masters - World Cup 2018 special

Join in the World Cup 2018 betting fun..

Just like the World Cup we’ve hopefully got 32 participants and 8 groups. The best 2 from each group goes through to the next round. Only bets on the World Cup is allowed.
Each contestant gets picked (by random) one of the national teams competing in the World Cup 2018. And then they have to do 5 bets related to there team (can bet against them and so on). Shouldn’t be a problem finding bets as there will be 50+ bets possible to do on any one game in the World cup.

After the league stage the people with most points go through (top 2). They are then up against a person from another group (following the same schedule as the real WC, A1 vs B2 and so on, in the next round).

Number of bets:
Group stages (32 participants): 14-28.June – 20 bets (15+5) – 48 games to bet on.
2. Stage (16): 30-03.July - 10 bets (8+2) – 8 games
3. Stage (8): 06-07.July – 10 bets (8+2) – 4 games
4. Stage (4): 10-11.July – 10 bets (8+2) – 2 games
5. Stage (5): 14-15.July – 10 bets (8+2) – 2 games (final and bronze final..)
(in the last couple of rounds..bets will be pm'd hidden to me (or someone else) before posted..when few matches to bet on.

In addition to the regular bets, one can also do 2 “long-term” bets.
1. Who do you think will win the WC?
2. Top scorer?
Search for the best odds and put it up (name the bookie), can for example use: To view the link you have to Register or Login
These bets will only come into play if you are one of the 2 finalists.
Bets have to be placed before the start of the tournament.

*The regular rules..
1. Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2. Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 14 days. Maximum bet on a single game is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis.

3. After the group stage the qualifiers all start on 0 points (same for each round).

4. Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 England win and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission

5. Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

6. Singles and upwards accepted.

7. For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

8. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

9. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

10. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

11. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

12. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together.

That was a lot of...if you got any questions, then don’t hesitate to ask.

Tips And Stories Of Minor Criminality

No, not that sort of minor.

To kick off, tips:

Always have a high-vis jacket/vest to hand, it's the 'hidden in plain sight' principle. You can be murdering someone in the street and if anyone takes any notice it'll likely be of the 'It's about time they got that murdering done at least they didn't have to put up a temporary traffic light' type of thing. Also, if you are driving a sit on mower/little tractor illegal vehicle down the road you'll probs get away with it - if the law shows and look like they're sniffing just randomly stop and make out like you're inspecting telegraph poles.

Stories:

Many moons ago, I once got pulled for arson & theft in Beckenham - I've tended to give the place a swerve since. They'd decided I was the 'sensible one' amongst myself & my cohort (tbf he was of the north). So, having us in separate cars they decide to stop on the way back to the nick and urge me to have a discussion 'in private' with my mate whilst they're out of the car. Quite frankly I was insulted that despite being a little 'refreshed' they thought I wouldn't realise they'd leave their radio on. Whispers exchanged then a loud conversation along the lines of "This process seems highly irregular subject to challenge and disciplinary measures against the officers involved. In any case I suggest we deny everything and insist on jury trial".

And back to tips - when signing off a de-arrest form make sure you tick the box that says you didn't do it because otherwise they tend to tick boxes for you.

Premiership players in the World Cup

Most teams in the premiership have multiple players in World Cup teams.

For us we have no players in the English team and with Wales, Ivory Coast and Holland not qualifiying, Sakho and Cabaye not being selected for France it means only Luka and possibly Beneteke will feature.

Is this a good or bad thing?

No Icardi in the Argentina squad

Probably one of if not the best Strikers in World football left out of the Argentina squad because Messi says so. The sooner they get rid of the poison dwarf maybe they can start developing a decent football TEAM again rather than being dictated to by one player, especially as the div only came out of international retirement because Ronaldo won the Euros so his legacy has reached the international stage.

Huge travesty though. Icardi is something else!

Last years' accounts?

David Hopkin, who scored the 90th-minute winner in the 1997 First Division play-off final against Sheffield United, to put Palace into the Premier League, has now steered Livingstone into the Scottish Premiership against all the odds.

Modern players can't head the ball

samedi 19 mai 2018

Is it just my imagination or is the standard of heading in football got worse over time? Just watching Pogba's poor efforts today further proves the point to me.

The "I can't believe I did this" thread

Thought it might be interesting (or not) to start a thread for people to own up to things that they did which, in retrospect seem stupid/silly/embarrassing.

COD: Black Ops IIII

A game I will probably not get, the last COD I bought was Black Ops 2, but this year's edition does come with something different. For one, there is no single player campaign. There is some differences in the multiplayer this year, too. No wall running or jetpacks, like from BO3. Also, no auto regen-ing of health. You have to pop a med kit that regens over time.

Zombies are back and supposedly it will have some sort of narrative thread.

New this year is a Battle Royal mode to compete with Fortnite.

There also looks to be a wine country simulator.

Las Palmas have been relegated, so he'll no doubt be loaned out again by the Uruguayan second division team CD Maldonado that has been loaning him out ever since acquiring him a few years ago. He's just too good for them, but they are hoping that next year they will finally be in the top division in Uruguay, right now they are doing well with their regular centre-forwards Max Rauhofer and Federico Laens.

Of course, rather than loaning him out again, perhaps CD Maldonado would consider selling him. I would have thought £6m would clinch it. That's a huge amount of money for CD Maldonado, whose entire squad is not worth that much on paper.

Here's the latest goal summary of the current season at Las Palmas:

There's shedloads of stuff on YouTube of his previous seasons but I guess it's this season what is most relevant. The above video isn't the best compilation I've seen and it takes a while to get going, but this is just from this season playing in a very lowly team from the Canary Islands that got relegated from La Liga. As you will see, he seems particularly good at scoring with his head, he's 6 foot and kind of find himself at the end of good crosses more often than not. Watching Benteke miss some sitters this season, I am sure Calleri would have tucked many of them away.

Let's not kid anyone, he's not going to set the premiership alight, but he'd be available at the right price and he's the sort of player we could afford and nurture.

Admittedly, he did not do well at West Ham, scoring 1 goal in 17 appearances. But that could be down to West Ham. Simone Zaza couldn't score a single goal in 8 matches at West Ham, but managed to score 12 this season at Valencia.

Where do Palace fans live?

I'm doing an article about various things to do with Palace including our supposed catchment area. I've got some data from google trends and twitter on this but wanted to see where the real fans (BBS users) live. Hopefully this will agree with those other data sources but let's see.

Apologies to our many fans from further afield but I've kept this to parliamentary constituencies so is confined to South London and bits of Surrey, Sussex and Kent. But there's a "somewhere else" option so you don't feel left out - and feel free to specify. The more responses the better so please give the poll a vote if you don't mind.

Thanks!

Fixed Odds Betting Terminals

Reduced from max £100 a spin on the roulette to £2.

Have played these before and every now and then when putting an accumulator on so don't think I'm really going to notice this, but I've seen many a person on the shops lose literally hundreds in a matter of minutes on these thing (and the odd few win hundreds, then lose it all again).

Some side affects will be job losses and shop closures - multiple bookies down a high street seem to be the norm now so I wonder whether that will all change.

Good or bad?

Brede Hangeland article on Roy

Brede Hangeland works as a expert on Norwegian TV2 these days and have written an article on Roy. Brede worked with Roy both in Viking(Norway) and Fulham.

He wrote the article 13 sept. 2017, and I think he was spot on and deserves some credit.

I found the article very interesting when I saw it back in september and it made me feel that we still had a chance to survive.
I have have tried to translate it to english with some help from google.
I apologize for the bad english, but I have tried my best.

I hope some of you will enjoy it.

"Hodgson's last chapter
13.9.2017 - by Brede Hangeland

In December, I had dinner with Roy Hodgson in London, along with Mark Schwarzer, Danny Murphy and Old Fulham Assistants Mike Kelly and Ray Lewington.
It was the "young lads" Schwarzer, Murphy and Hangeland who took the initiative for dinner, the purpose of course was to mimic old times and to discuss today's Premier League, but also to find out if our old coach was finished in the game.

This was just over five months after England's EC exit against Iceland, and one could understand if Roy Hodgson was finished with football after the bad ending as an English national team coach.
The national team coach job is the ultimate position for any English manager, and after a long and meaningful career, it might be natural for the 70-year-old to quit a job that is very demanding, even for men of their best age. Roy was, however, quite clear: "I've got one more job in me".

Long-year assistant Ray Lewington explained that Roy had come to this conclusion shortly after the EC exit. It was simply not an option to quit with the Islands match as the last memory.
Since that time, Hodgson and Lewington have been waiting for an opportunity which finally arrived this week when Crystal Palace got enough of Frank de Boer and sent him out the door with the dubious credit of having the shortest managerial job in the Premier League on his CV (four matches).

When Roy Hodgson is now embarking on the training field in Copers Cope Road in South London, the circle ends for a man who has been on an adventurous journey in international football.
Hodgson was in his time a youth player at Crystal Palace. The player career was limited, but inspired by his old friend Bob Houghton, Hodgson has traveled around the world with his well-known ideas about zone defense and a hands-on approach in the training field.

National team coach for Switzerland, Finland and finally England - it's still as club coach he has spent most of his time. Clubs like Udinese and Inter Milan have benefited from his services, in addition, he has a bunch of experience from the Premier League with Blackburn, Fulham, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion. The Scandinavian link is also strong, with a number of jobs in Sweden, a period in FC Copenhagen and in Viking (Stavanger, Norway) here at home.

It was in Viking I first met Roy, the summer in 2004.
By Roys standard, we were a bunch of very limited players who met him at the training field at the old Stavanger stadium, and it was not free for him to air his frustration at times.
None of us will forget the time he stopped the training, gathering the players in a ring and rattled with some coins in his pockets while saying:
«I could be in Monaco, smoking a cigar. But here I am, pushing myself for pocket-money».
There was generally enough of more or less ironic gold grains and eruptions from Hodgson, but the most important thing was of course the expertise and work morale he brought to the training field.

In all my years as a professional football player I have never met a man so until those degrees know what he is doing as a football coach. The philosophy is crystal clear, the methods well-known.
Hodgson drills the team down to the smallest detail.

Several years later, when we were reunited in Fulham and Roy had enough time to complete a project, I saw the final result of this.
We were a collection of players who were individually average compared to the Premier League and European top level, but collectively we became very strong.

In Roy's video meetings, our 11 players were marked in the picture as yellow dots. As the training progressed, the distance between the players' actual movements and the yellow dots became shorter until the interaction and the simultaneous movements were perfect. A football symphony that went up in a higher unit under conductor Hodgson.

I played CD with Aaron Hughes in these years, and by the end we almost stopped communicating on the pitch.
Countless hours of drilling on the training field almost made talking during the match redundant.
We knew each other's tasks and patterns of movement in every situation as if it were telepathy.

It was this long-term improvement that made little Fulham able to beat the mighty Juventus 4-1 at Craven Cottage.
While Cannavaro, Trezeguet and Del Piero lay on the grass and wondered how to beat such a tight and well-organized 4-4-2, we were on our way to the European League finals.

Despite stories like this, there are shared opinions about Hodgson.
Many people remember the failed time in Liverpool, as well as a bit bitter and beaten man after the disaster against Iceland.
These people overlook an undervalued point in the football:
The coach's ability to influence the team hangs inextricably with the player material available.

Big teams have player-power and external expectations about style and formation, Hodgson needs loyal players and time and space to complete his project.

As in Fulham, where every player who worked under Hodgson has him as his best manager ever.
Or as in West Bromwich, where Hodgson led the team to the highest ranking in the top division in 20 years.

There are few who know that Hodgson's major problem in Liverpool was that Fernando Torres would not do the defensive job that Hodgson demands from his strikers,
or notice that the English national team that lost to Iceland, either in formation or in style, resembled a Hodgson team.

What about Crystal Palace then? There are undeniably many things to remind you of Fulham and West Bromwich in southern London, and much will depend on how the players responds to Hodgson's methods.
The training on Copers Cope Road will consist of well-known but monotonous methods:
Team tactical exercises, training with one side outnumbered, specific game patterns. Again and again and again.

I remember the winter of 2008 and hour after hour with the same in Fulham. Players who started to whisper in the corridors that it might be time to play just a little five-a-side or a square on training, but eventually ended with this as the results began to come.
Jump a couple of years ahead and the same exercises were done to the point every single day with top quality, knowing that the next major scalp in the Premier League or the European league was taken because of this training.
And here is one of two major questions for Crystal Palace and Roy Hodgson.

Will the results be fast enough for players to accept that Hodgson's methods work?

In the shift from Frank de Boer to Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace again makes a U-turn, and everything - training, man-management and game style - changes radically.
The players of the old school, like Dann, Ward, McArthur and Delaney, will recognize themselves in the methods.
Whether Hodgson can convince types like Benteke and Zaha will determine a lot.

The second question for Crystal Palace and Hodgson is of a more tactical nature:

How does Hodgson's formation stand against Premier League's favorite 3-4-3?
The revolution that Antonio Conte has started in the Premier League, with 3/5 at the back and a trio on top has often proved tactically superior to 4 at the back in the last year. 4 at the back has the following choices:

-Use the fullbacks against the players in the Pedro / Hazard positions, and risk Moses / Alonso to be free in the flank position
-Use your own central midfielder against Pedro / Hazard and get too low and close to your own goal.

This is one of the moments Hodgson has to figure out in today's Premier League, doubting he is leaving the back 4 he has used for a lifetime.
One thing is at least certain, Hodgson and his old weapon carrier Ray Lewington are currently working methodically with Crystal Palace.

After four losses and zero goals, Palace needs structure and system, clear division of responsibility and a clear game pattern. They will get this.

Whether they get the results only time will tell. The Premier League is relentless and the start has been terrible both on and off the pitch. In Roy Hodgson, however, Crystal Palace has employed an old champion who has something to prove. I wish the master all the best!"

Roy Hodgson to be awarded the Freedom of Croydon

Croydon’s own Roy Hodgson is to be awarded the Freedom of the Borough, Council Leader Tony Newman has announced.

The Palace boss, who was successful in keeping the club in the Premier League this season, is set to be given the honour in the autumn in recognition of his contribution to Croydon and to football, both home and abroad.

The club, which was a "10-minute walk" from his boyhood home, has played a large part in his life. Hodgson had a stint as a youth player with the Eagles, and as a boy he was a Palace fan who attended John Ruskin grammar school, where played for the school team.............

Discussion: Wilshire

Obviously out of the England squad but as far as I know still hasn't signed a new deal with Arsenal.

Anyway, we are probably losing 1 or possibly 2 important midfielders this summer and Wilshire did manage quite a lot of games this season. I presume Roy has a relationship with him from his England days.

I understand all the reasons for doubting him (mainly injuries) but could he also be a potentially smart move if no transfer fee is involved?

Anyone got the post season blues?

For the last 6 months I’ve just wanted the season done with. Continuously looking at the relegation avoidance calculator thread, eager to just get to the end and survival in tact for another season. We’ve done it, achieved a goal which for long periods looked incredibly hard, if not impossible.

Now the season is over and we have the best part of 3 months with no Palace, I want it all back again [emoji2].

The build up the the weekend games, the frosty nights chewing my fingernails as each passing shot of the opponents narrowly misses the goal or Big Ben misses a sitter.

What are you going to do with your weekends now to replace the missing gap often for so much filled with Palace?

I suppose the World Cup is on but whilst I’m looking forward to it, it barely touches the excitement of Palace.

Will you enjoy your stress free weekend now or will you too miss nail biting Saturday/Sunday’s?

Bit of a random one but have turned to the BBS for some advice.

My daughters mum completed a passport form and sent it off 3 weeks back. The other day she received a text to say it would be delivered but never received it. Turns out that some random address was put on the form :veryangry. My Daughter is going on a school trip and needs it ASAP however the Passport office said that someone will call back within 10 days and talk to the Mum because of the discrepancy. My Daughter will be devastated if she can't go plus nearly a grand has been lost. Wish I did the form to check but it's too late, are we Donald Ducked?

Flamengo Football Tickets Rio DeJaneiro

Wondering if any Brazilian eagles can help me out. I’m travelling to Brazil tomorrow and will be in Brasilia on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday night. I’ll also be in Rio on Saturday and Sunday night. I’d like to see Flamengo at the Maracanã on the Saturday night but am struggling to see how to get tickets. Anyone done it before?

Also is there anything to do/see in Brasilia?

Thanks in advance!

The first three I kind of expected, but was a bit surprised to see Wilf. No reason why he shouldn't be there I just wouldn't have guessed it!

Also a good reminder that squad players like Delaney can still be extremely important in the dressing room. We'll miss him. Need to make sure we bring the right characters in.

Premier League Floodlit Cup Final Tonight (Mon 14/5) 7pm KO Selhurst

Palace's U15s play Chelsea in the Premier League Floodlit Cup Final tonight at Selhurst and it's free to attend. Kick off is at 7pm.

The U15s have some very talented players including four who have been either capped at international level or involved with training camps. Two of them are actually U14s playing up with the 15s. Three of them already have scholarships

Chelsea have an England U15 striker who they stole from us at the end of last season and obviously have some very good players.

But if you can get down I'm sure it will be a good game and the U15s will appreciate the support.

Managerial Comings and Goings 18/19

I think we will see a number of changes in terms of who is managing who by the start of next season.

Arsenal - New manager
Bournemouth - Could be poached, but unlikely
Brighton - Same manager
Burnley - Same manager
Chelsea - New manager
Palace - Same manager
Everton - New manager
Huddersfield - Could be poached, but unlikely
Leicester City - New manager
Liverpool - Same manager
Man City - Same manager
Man Utd - Same manager
Newcastle - Could leave
Southampton - Likely new manager
Spurs - Could leave
Watford - Probably new manager
West Ham - New manager

So that could be up to 50% of the remaining clubs in the league changing manager. And that is not considering the impact that some of them may have on other teams if they do leave (for example, Everton could go for Howe).

Just for once, I hope we can keep hold of our manager for a while!

last 8 games

Last 8 games we averaged just over 2 points a game.

I think next year could be very interesting we have proved when we don't have half a team missing we are hard to beat and can go on very good runs.

roll on august

Did the lack of a back up striker end up working in our favour?

For all our time in the premier league we have had a tendency (more at some times than others) to hoof the ball forward. Without Benteke and no alternative target man we've been forced to pay the ball through midfield more during the last part of the season. The result has been some very pleasing interplay and passing. Not just passing backwards and forwards at the back aimlessly, but attacking passing interplay - a case in point being Wilf's "team goal" recently. The last few weeks has definitley been the best football we've played in our current premier league stint.

2018/19 Predictions

Now the season has finished, I assessed the teams that will be in the Premier League next season. One team is missing because we don't know who will win the play-offs, yet. But, whoever comes up will finish bottom in my opinion because all the play-off clubs don't look good enough at the moment to stay up.

I will re-assess after the World Cup as teams will be doing their transfer business, and this is based purely on how this ended season has panned out.

Arsenal
I actually think that they will go backwards a bit before they go forwards again.
Many of the players they have are nowhere near world class. On the whole, you look at their squad and wonder are they actually any better than many other sides who would fight for mid-table mediocrity. I am thinking about Burnley and similar clubs, for example. I don’t think they are better. I also think that with the spirit in their side, I can actually see Burnley finishing above Arsenal next season.

Bournemouth
I don’t think Bournemouth are that bad a side. They are a club who need additions to keep them going just as with any club. But, I feel there are definitely worse sides then them. That being said, a low league finish beckons for them unless they do make those additions because I think there is a danger that they are tailing off a bit and aren’t really making forward strides anymore.

Brighton & Hove Albion
As much as many of my fellow Eagles fans will resent me for saying this, Chris Hughton has done a very good job at the Amex. Chris is a no-fuss, no blow-my-own-trumpet manager and quietly goes about his job. That being said, he has done a very good job down there considering the quality of their squad.
For next season, Brighton have to find a striker, just like so many others, because Glenn Murray is not going to go on forever.
Overall, I feel Brighton will be competing at the lower end of the table with the likes of Bournemouth, but they do battle away and they could well survive another season if they repeat their efforts this season and indeed get support for Glenn.

Burnley
As stated above, I think the Burnley project will continue in the direction that it is going. I am predicting them to finish above Arsenal for the reasons stated above. A few additions on the Burnley level and they will be a strong force for years to come.

Cardiff
I feel Cardiff could do what Newcastle have done this season. They could well do a Huddersfield too. Either way, I am not sure they are certainties for the drop. They will have Neil Warnock’s fire in their bellies for sure, and that will count for something. It will be close for them.

Chelsea
I feel Chelsea are going to start going backwards like Arsenal have, and they will struggle to replicate the levels that saw them finish top of the league or even fighting. Overall, their squad is ageing, and they are also running out of top managers to come and do the business for them. I am also not sure about whether Roman is going to keep splashing the cash, but even if he does, they are going to have to replace certain players that formed part of the formidable side of only a couple of seasons ago. They need a striker, but so does everyone else though, and I don’t think there are that many strikers around anymore whom are world-class and can really do the business. They may scrape top-four next season, or they may finish just outside because their saving grace is there are many sides whom are worse still, but the gap to the likes of the two Manchester clubs and Liverpool is going to get wider, and that is why they will not reach the heights that brought them success in the past for some time to come. A lot will depend on who comes in in terms of management and playing staff.

Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace are my club, but what I tell you here is my honest modest opinion.
We are going to lose some players this season, it seems. Ward seems to have decided that he is leaving the club. He certainly doesn’t look like he is staying at the club, at the moment, but I could well be wrong in the end, and kind of hope that I am because we can do far worse. A replacement for him is then going to be important even with the emergence of Wan-Bissaka.
I am hoping Benteke re-finds his scoring form. He hasn’t always been that bad this season, but only three goals – one was given to him on a plate is not what you want from £30m striker. I would say, like so many other clubs, we still need another striker at the club in case he Benteke doesn’t do it after all.
Central midfield is another position where we need to strengthen. Our Serb has served spectacular performances and been crucial in our performances this season. He has been such a terrific find that my worry is that he is wanted by top clubs soon. I think he is good enough to replace Fernandinho at Manchester City. I feel he is that good. Aside from our Serb, McArthur has been brilliant, and Cabaye, after my initial reservations has become like a fine wine or Bordeaux. They are all always there, but some years provide belters, and he has, despite struggling for fitness at times, has shown his class, and we will most definitely miss him if he goes as is believed to be the case.
The rest of the Palace squad is decent, and I feel that, without a repeat of our seven and eleven games start this season, we would be competing with Burnley for the Europa League. I fancy us. I really do.

Everton
Everton have some decent players still, but some of those decent players are aging and will need replacing. Leighton Baines is one such example.
The problem with Everton is that they are seemingly and surprisingly a club in turmoil. Even Wayne Rooney seemingly wants out now, and he has only been back at his boyhood club for one season. Whether he stays after winning what has seemingly become a personal battle with Big Sam, or whether Big Sam will stay – much to the dislike and unwantedness of seemingly every Evertonian, Everton are going to have to once again spend the GDP of a small country to strengthen their side as I don’t feel that the team is very strong or at least as strong as it should have been considering the money spent last season. Despite my reservations about them, the fact there are many worse teams than them means that they can still finish top-half if Big Sam stays and they get some players in.

Huddersfield Town
I feel Huddersfield will struggle next season. They could well be relegated. Certainly, they are one of my tips. Their squad is definitely not that great but that doesn’t take away from their superb season this season in which Wagner has kept them up at the first attempt, and pulled off some decent results against the top-six along the way. Their problem is that, this season, there were three sides who had such bad seasons since the start that Huddersfield survived. I am not entirely sure that this will happen next season, so Huddersfield are going to have to get better results against lower-league sides if they are to survive again next season.

Leicester City
Leicester are a club who are another whom could go either way. Currently, they are still a decent side despite their cold second-half of the campaign. The rest of the teams behind them are so bad that they were never in danger of being caught. But, they need to replicate their early season form, and they need to try and add to their squad as they are another club who seem to be drifting backwards although no-one expects them to finish in the top four.
As a club, Leicester are still very attractive to any manager and are decent enough. Puel is not a bad manager and Southampton are probably now wishing he didn’t actually leave, but he needs to steer Leicester forward again and get them playing the great way and stuff that got them to the heights where they have been recently.
Their current side, if playing as well as they can are a top-ten side with ease.

Liverpool
I am going to say it, Liverpool are the club who I feel will push Manchester City hardest next season. Their only downfall is their lack of cover for their key players, and the loss of Oxlaide-Chamberlain is massive. After a slow start, he has been magnificent for them and an absolute certainty for England this summer until his injury. They seem to have found some much-needed cover in goal. Mignolet was as accident prone as Max Verstappen currently is in F1. Some decent additions and they could be even closer to the top than I currently believe they will be.

Manchester City
First of all, Manchester City were the best side in the league this season and deserved to win the title. They were the most consistent side and although they did blip once or twice for about one or two games, they managed to break the records along the way.
Some of their players are just class. I was a huge fan of David Silva from day one that he arrived in the country and is one of my top-ten foreign players to have braced the Premier League since it started, and De Bruyne started the season so well too albeit he didn’t carry on the blistering goal-scoring throughout. Still, these two are probably the best midfielders in the country, at the moment.
The downside is that, other than Manchester United shutting them out, and Liverpool being more blistering in attack at times, I feel the rest of the league has generally been so poor this season that they have enabled City to do what they have done.
Crystal Palace were the first side to really give them a game and threaten them, and a blip followed for them, but they pulled through it and still won the league.
Manchester City don’t really need strengthening. They are so good a squad, but useful additions are always needed to avoid stagnation and to keep themselves at the top. Some of their top players are ageing too and some forward-thinking is now required.
Back to my opening statement though, despite the money it took, they are one hell of a side now, they are the best in the league, and they are now setting the standard that everyone else needs to strive for.

Manchester United
I think Jose ahs done a very decent job this season in the end especially considering the negativity around the team and him at times. Yes, they have spent a fortune since he turned up, but they needed to. The Fergie United needed a lot of replacements, and some that did come were not good enough. Jose is like any other manager. He judges his players and he does what he needs to to get his side finishing as high up the table as possible, and Manchester City’s start is the reason why United have fallen so far behind. In the end, Jose has finished second which means he has performed better than all the other top-six sides including Liverpool who faltered in the league slightly in favour of the Champions League.
Jose will do what he feels he needs to keep them there at least, or pip Manchester City. I don’t believe it will happen. I also believe Liverpool will finish higher if they can add suitable replacements because Liverpool are a more destructive side. I am going for 3rd place for Man Utd next season.

Newcastle United
If it wasn’t for Roy’s recovery job at my club Palace, I would say Rafa is manager of the season. Ok, there have been so very poor sides in the bottom half of the league, and no-one really went on a run per se, but Rafa, despite almost no funds and a championship squad managed to steer the Geordies to mid-table safety with a fair few games to spare.

Next season, Newcastle need to spend money to progress significantly as as good and spirited as their squad is, it is going to need a lot of support. If they did, I would fancy Newcastle for a top-eight ten finish next season with ease.

Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham need to move their project on. As things stand, they are in danger of drifting away again after making such fantastic significant progress and strides over the last seasons to be in the Champions League places.
If Spurs stay as they are, they will finish fourth again next season. However, Lloris needs to go back to be the best or second-best keeper in the league as I felt he was last season. They also can’t afford to lose any of their players yet need to add to their squad to take them further forward. If, as is rumoured, Rose leaves and others follow, and they don’t get the odd additions they need, they will rue the decision.

Southampton
Southampton survived by the skin of their teeth. Swansea threw it away after looking like they had resurged up the league.
I don’t dislike Mark Hughes. I think he is better than he is given credit for and doesn’t really deserve the stick he gets although his press conferences are a bit monotonous at times and full of Mark’s almost trademarkable clichés.
They need to be careful with their recruitment from now on, and Mark cannot make the same mistakes that he made in the end at Stoke. It is not about quantity as much as quality, and Southampton have some decent players still. But, they desperately need additions, and they need to perform better than this season.
I feel the league will have a similar finish to this season with so many clubs so close together and fighting to stay up. That being said, I feel Southampton are actually a bit better than some of the others around them, so I feel they will survive. But, caution is needed going forward for them.

Watford
Watford are a club whom I just don’t know what will happen next. They seem to have lost the buzz they once had but I still don’t feel they are that bad a side. They could flop next season and end up relegated much to everyone’s surprise, but it won’t be surprising to see them struggle if they fail to avoid stagnating or going backwards. Probably the hardest club to predict next season. I am going for lower league.

West Ham United
David Moyes has done a decent enough job at the club and he needs to stay and be supported if they are going to progress again after what has been very difficult times.
To be honest, I don’t agree with them being in the Olympic Stadium and don’t agree with how they got it and it is because of this why I would love to see them implode. Despite this, they won’t. They have some decent players still who will ensure that they will survive, but they may struggle still next season. However, I feel they will put this season behind them and they will finish about the same position or slightly higher next season next season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers
Whether anyone else likes the way they have done it or not, Wolves stormed the Championship which is no easy feat. It’s harder to get promoted from that league then it is to survive in the Premier League, in my opinion.
If Wolves carry on as they are, I fancy them to be a surprise package next season. As high as top-ten like Newcastle have almost done? Very likely in my opinion. There are too many mediocre sides in the Premier League who are all fighting to stay up. I feel Wolves will have a different approach and will go for it, and I believe they will succeed. Dare I say it, but I am predicting a top-ten finish for them

BHAFC - Second season syndrome 2018/19

Second season syndrome awaits BHAFC

Let's get this thread up and running:D:D

For anyone unsure

Second season syndrome is a term that was coined a long time ago, and applies to teams who experience a solid first year in the Premier League before crumbling under the expectation the year after and often being relegated in their second campaign. It has happened to a number of different sides with varying levels of severity

Streaming for Next Season

Apologies for opening a new thread but couldn't get an answer.

What are my options for watching the Palace games next season, please?
I'm fed up having to rely on crappy low-resolution streams that often lag or don't work properly.
I want to get something sorted for next season. I'm looking for a reliable option that will work 100% every game & be good quality.

Don't mind having to pay for a premium service if it's guaranteed to work each week.

Thank you :p

Discussion: A real opportunity to Build

Despite receiving much criticism earlier in the year, we actually have very good squad depth - proven by the fact we managed to stay up with so many injuries.

For the first time since promotion, we actually only need 2-3 more players to supplement the squad to have a very, very good team.

Based on the assumption we keep Ward, Cabaye, Sako and Zaha we have the following options:

GK: Guaita, Hennessey
RB: AWB, Ward
CB: Tomkins Sakho, Kelly, Dann
LB: PVA, Schlupp

CM's: Macca Cabaye Luka , Jairo , Punch
Wing/Wide Mid: Macca, Schlupp, Towns, Punch

Striker: Benteke, Sorloth, Sako
Alt Striker: Zaha, Towns

This means that assuming RLC is out of our reach(after sakho and benteke fees), and we can keep Ward Cabaye Sako on reasonable contracts we don;t actually have any positions that need urgent improvement.

This means we can buy two - three quality players in pretty much any position that we consider, as the squad is nearly complete.

One top Striker, competition for Luka/Cabaye, and RLC/A similar player and that will represent a good summer.

Farewell and best wishes

Super rich wealth in UK up 10%. Wages down.

After big wage cuts after 2008 (only othe EU countries to have this were Greece and Italy), the last year has seen yet more real term wage cuts.

But the 2018 rich list has seen a 10% increase to £724 billion.

This is up from £258 billion in 2009.

Most deluded fans in the Prem

Reading the some of the end of season reviews and it’s clear that a lot of clubs fans have ideas well above their station.

Everton fans feel a manager who’s taken them to the verge of Europe is rubbish.
The Geordies have always felt they should be challenging for the title.
Arsenal fans are disappointed when they finish top four.
Hammers fans think they’re a massive club with no evidence.
The Weed believe selling out a ground to Chelsea and Man U fans makes them huge.
Spurs fans think they are one of the world’s biggest clubs despite never winning anything.
Swansea fans thought they were too good for Pulis and have gone down playing dire football - The Swansea Way

Who are the most deluded?

Rumour: Tom Delaney

The sun reporting we are interested in Bremen midfielder Thomas Delaney

Don’t think it’s online yet so can’t oost link

Suggestion: Nathaniel Clyne

To continue the discussion from the Ryan Fredericks thread, how about Nathaniel Clyne? Obviously a sizeable transfer fee and big wages. But he could fit in with the South London and Proud mantra. He is an ex-Palace academy lad. And his signing would be a massive statement of intent to not only Zaha but also others that we are trying to attract, for example RLC. He is currently 3rd choice at Liverpool so they'd probably let him go if the right offer came in. Obviously has had some injuries. I can see the pros and cons. What are other people's thoughts?

BEACH!

samedi 12 mai 2018

What's the best beach you've ever been to.

Mine has to be Tobacco Bay in Bermuda. Parrot fish swimming in knee high water . Best snorkeling. Miss it

Do we really want RLC on a permanent?

It just came to my head, I'm just not sure because he goes in patches of being great and involved but then other times he's just non existent.

I'm also concerned about Chelsea asking for too much if we do decided to pursue him.

I personally love him and if possible I'd take him for no more then 13.5 million but in today's market I somehow can't see this happening...

Return of the Jedi

Jedi has put Villa 1-0 up at Boro in the 1st Leg so far.

How strange would it be if Villa got promoted and Jedi came back to Selhurst next season?

Roy Hodgson how long has he got in the tank.

One of our own and time for a new contract .... Given we would have been in the top five with his management of the club on form since he came in then if backed, can Roy get us Europa League football and cement us into this division .
He's still very capable vastly experienced and one of us... How long have we got with Sir Roy to get this done?

I'm thinking .... As long as he wants!

So, what's going to go wrong this summer

There seems to be lots of understandable optimism about next season, but the same was true at this point in all but one of our Premier League seasons, and then:

Pulis walked out the day before the start of the next season
Pardew's 'magic' ran out four months into the season and (Cup run excepted) his true ineptitude shone through
Allardyce resigned two days after the end of the season.

So what's going to go wrong this time?

Housing benefit help

I wonder f there is anyone on here that understands and may be able to help via PM regarding some help to benefits and in particular housing benefit for an elderly relative

Playing with a tazer

this may have been posted before but worth it
Just try reading this without laughing till you cry!!!

Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife.

A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Tazer for their anniversary submitted this:

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized Tazer.

The effects of the Tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety...??

WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home... I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button.. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time, I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs.

AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two AAA batteries, right?

There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target.

I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and then thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised.

Am I wrong?

So, there I sat! in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and Tazer in another.

The directions said that:

a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant;

a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; and

a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water.

Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.

All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference (loaded with two itsy, bitsy AAA batteries); pretty cute really, and thinking to myself, 'no possible way!'

What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best.

I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side so as to say, 'Don't do it stupid,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny lil ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad.. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it.

I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and...

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. WHAT THE... !!!

I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs! The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.

Note:
If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a Tazer,
one note of caution:

There is NO such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor!
A three second burst would be considered conservative!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape.

My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace.
The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was.
My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching.
My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs.
I had no control over the drooling.
Apparently I had crapped in my shorts, but was too numb to know for sure, and my sense of smell was gone.
I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head, which I believe came from my hair.

I'm still looking for my testicles and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!

PS: My wife can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift and now regularly threatens me with it!

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Final Sunday Premier League excitement!

Obviously there is none, with all issues sorted in the absence of some miracle, so the Sky live matches will be:

Liverpoolv Brighton and Hove Albion
Newcastle United v Chelsea
Southampton v Manchester City

How dull is that?

Sky must have hated the result of the Chelsea v Huddersfield match last night.

Wayne Rooney to MLS

Per Sky.

Wow. Horrible move for all involved. I understand Rooney has family in the States but still. This is not the league for an attacking player with limited fitness. Will be a horrible way for him to end his career. He should have moved to a league which rewards technical skill more and is played at a slower tempo.

I predict a massive failure similar to Steven Gerrard, who often couldn't even make the bench during his final season.

Crystal Ball Eagles or Baggies?

Last game of the Season, at least no one has to worry about it! Palace being safe and them being relegated, it is a nailed on loss. But I am going for 3-1 to Palace, Rondon for them, Zaha, Ben and Tomkins for us. 25,271.

BBC News - Is it fit for purpose?

This is one of the lead stories headlined on the BBC News website just now:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

So it was the bad weather according to the BoE, and the BBC seems to agree with this.

Now rewind back to last month to this story given equal headline weight by the BBC News website:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The two are obviously related, but the earlier report states according to the ONS, the weather was not a reason for the drop in growth, and the BBC seems to agree with that too.

They at least provide a link to the earlier story in the report, but I am not sure that is for reasons for fairness, or just an oversight that has exposed their inconsistencies.

Humour: The Rubbish Transfer Window thread - Summer 2018

Obviously these are great times (we've earned them) and it'll be great to enjoy a relaxing match on Sunday for once. But from Monday it all starts.:(

McArthur to Cardiff ? Surely we wouldn't sell him ?

Main task is to keep Wilf plus not to lose anyone significant.

As for a striker.....................

* it can't be another bad window can it ? :(

Rumour: McArthur to Cardiff, Rangers or Villa (Daily Mail)

BBC gossip link to Simon Jones in the Mail saying Warnock is targeting Mac for Cardiff after bringing him to Palace. Says Rangers are interested plus Villa if they go up. Suggests he would go as part of midfield strengthening with Cabaye leaving as well. Does say he has two years on his contract though.

No idea why they would think we were interested in selling him after his strong season for us.

Had me thinking of Paddy McCarthy...

...and why he had a four-year contract with us despite being unlikely to get game time. Interesting read, well handled by the journo.

Selhurst Redevelopment - Fans Survey

mercredi 9 mai 2018

Just had an email from the club asking me to complete a survey regarding the development of the stadium.

Has anyone else taken it?

All seemed well at first but then it kept repeating the same questions over and over. I don't know who created it but they haven't done a very good job!

It's here if anyone's interested in getting annoyed for 20 minutes: To view the link you have to Register or Login

Now that West Brom do not need the points...

On Sunday, will we start any or all of the 4 signings we have made this year who have played a total of about 5 games ?
Be great to see them even if they are a bust.

Pre-season suggestion: Team Testimonial

Given Ward, Delaney and Speroni could be leaving the club, if they did could they arrange a preseason game of the promotion team vs current team?

We never got to say goodbye to Jedi or Bolasie properly nor may we get the chance to with the current trio. With Dougie still involved in the club it can't be that hard to get the squad back together.

I am sure Rambo and Murray are desperate to put the Red and Blue on one more time :p

Other team's fans view of us

Always wonder this.
When I scour the other teams in the premier league forums, especially after we have beaten them, the same line is trotted out
"Ahhh how can we lose to Palace/ Palarse"
Or something along the same lines.
I can understand a top six side supporter saying it but it makes me laugh when fans of a team like Stoke or even Huddersfield say it.
Are we really still that small fry in the league, that even teams that we finish above consider themselves embarrassed to lose to?

Train brat etiquette

You're on a train in a nice quiet carriage when someone decides to start playing music at top volume on their phone in the next row of seats. It's not even good music, just some indecipherable, nondescript pap/rap/chart nonsense. They're quite clearly aware of you but simply disregard your comfort to blast their unutterable crap into your lugholes for minutes on end.

It would be easy to confront them, cause a scene, shame them into recognising the basic requirement for good manners, social awareness, a simple regard for their immediate surroundings - or even perhaps the mere use of headphones.

But who needs all that on their way to work? What is the correct course of action in these sorry circumstances BBSers? And yes, I am on the train, since you ask. And yes, this did just happen - for the second time this week. I fear an epidemic so instruction is required.

Sako or No Sako ?

Brilliant then 2 years of nothing followed by more brilliance.

Would be a gamble to resign - But could also be gem for us.

His performance against Burnley was superb.

Please vote if you can bothered.

Sako! Sako! Sako! :lux::lux::D

We CAN qualify for Europe (after 2018/19 season), can't we?

Of course this thread is going to be littered with conditions, and lots of "if"s. But I see no reason why we can't qualify for Europe next season. The usual requirements (luck, a good transfer window or 2 and a short injury list) still exist. But 7th place is all that may be needed for the Europa League. Why can't we do it? We have an experienced and proven manager who has an affinity with Croydon and Crystal Palace, and who will provide much needed stability this summer for the first time in years. We have currently the best player in the Premier League as our talisman. And let's not forget, even with the disastrous reign of Frank de Boer and the longest injury list that I can remember we are rated as the 7th best team for 2017/18 if you take into account expected goals (xG). So, why do we not have at least a good chance of qualifying for Europe? Surely we have at least a realistic possibility of doing it?

And the referee today is......

Jon Moss again.

This will be his 5th time this season and we are yet to win with him.

Oliver and Taylor have the big relegation games.

We have not had East, Scott, Jones, Probert or Tierney for any league game this season,

The new Main Stand (2021/22) - what will it be called?

Is it likely that we will continue to call it the Main Stand? Will we offer the rights to a multinational firm, or is it only the full stadium name they would be interested in? And my favourite question of all: IF Zaha is still here, would anyone else be happy for it to be renamed the Wilfried Zaha Stand?
