It's not that the players don't care, it's their confidence that's shot to pieces

I've derived a massive amount of pleasure from the BBS over the years, but the outpouring of anger and abuse towards the club, the management and the team over the last few weeks is immensely disappointing. Fortunately I do not believe that it represents the fan base as a whole.

The favourite populist rant in the last 2-3 weeks has been that the players don't care. I've just finished watching Everton versus Man City and the accusation that the players don't care could just as easily be levelled against Man City as to Palace. But this is the same Man City team that was tearing the opposition to threads in the first 10 games of the season. They looked as if they didn't care today because maybe because their game plan wasn't working, perhaps they weren't clear about what the manager was expecting of them, perhaps they have lost their confidence.

Now. Palace have been in dreadful form for a year. Has is occurred to anyone that the players may be chronically lacking in confidence and that what looks like "not trying" is actually not having the confidence to play at your optimal level? We have players of varying abilities trying to adapt from what one manager tells them to do to another. Switching from a "confident in possession" approach under Pardew to a "stop the opposition from scoring at all costs"under Allardyce.

Don't get me wrong, I do think the players need to work harder, concentrate more, and they need to make better decisions, but to say that "they just don't care" is plain wrong.

And one more thing, can we just stop this vile abuse towards certain players. There are a number of individuals who have under-performed but some of the comments just go to far. They will be the first to know that they are not performing. I really thought / hoped that as a club and a set of supporters we were better than that.
