This story caught my eye this morning.
In truth it could have been any one of dozens of stories over the last decade or two that leads to the same question - Did the British government have a stronger sense of principles and ethics in the past then it does now?

The arms sales to Saudi used to flatten Yemeni villages is another one, as well as the increasingly selective way the law works for some and not others (particularly tax evasion).
Was there ever a golden age (perhaps 1930s to 1960s) where British governments did what was right (rather than what was most profitable), or is that a figment of our collective imagination?
