The normalisation of guns in society

I'm in Bluewater today and there's police patrolling carrying semi-automatic weapons. Bit by bit this has been creeping in from stations to airports and could soon be on every High Street. Have we really come to this as a society that this is what we need? Do they have to be so visible?

I don't want the place I live to have guns on show as a normal thing to see.
