Are video replays being used on the sly?

dimanche 13 décembre 2015

Two decisions in the Villa / Arse and Liverpool / WBA games today that took a long time to reach. Looking beyond whether the decisions were correct or not... the length of time it took, actions of the officials and the (fact that there were?) explanations are interesting.

The WBA goal being disallowed I can understand, though the lack of any flag from the assistant referee is strange. The Arsenal penalty, however, is downright weird. How the assistant in the other half - stood almost directly behind the referee - has a clearer view, is beyond me. It certainly wasn't an obvious one, even after seeing the replay.

The only logical conclusion I can draw is that someone is watching the replays and communicating those decisions to the officials on the pitch. Is it a coincidence that it is the "big" clubs getting the benefit of this type of controversial incident? Hmm.
