Best Wishes

Hi, I am a Barnet supporter and have been for fifty years now and don't usually post on other teams forums and am not too bothered who wins or loses in the premier league but I do enjoy keeping an eye on Palace results.

Last night it was great to see ex-bee Yannick Bolasie score a hat trick and I always look forward to a cracker or two from that other ex-Bee Jason Puncheon, a player whose career was resurrected when we took a chance, when other clubs wouldn't touch him. And now you have another great ex-Bee in charge. My abiding memory of Alan Pardew was in a league two match when he argued with the ref who was insisting he go off the field for treatment when he had clashed heads and his shirt was red with blood instead of the normal Black and Amber! A real Warrior!

There seems to have been a few connections between the clubs in the past. Palace were the first team to ever play at Underhill in 1907 and played a centenary match there. And of course the highest transfer fee we have ever received is still for Dougie Freeman. Two memories of him are his goal after 30 seconds against Manchester City and the 89 minute backs to the wall performance to beat them in the league cup (pity there had to be a second leg!!). Secondly part of the transfer was that Palace would play a fund raising friendly at Underhill and as he rose to head in the first goal the whole Barnet crowd cheered and sang "there's only one Dougie Freedman".

Last season of course we had Edgar Davids in charge and he loaned several players from Palace to help out and although it was an honour to see him play for the Bees in the end his head got too big and gave himself the number one shirt and played every week in various positions. He also managed to get four red cards (a club record!) in his short stay including one glorious uppercut on a wrexham player who dared to try to wrestle the ball from him at a free kick!

It is always nice to see our players go on to do well and we have seen many progress to play in the premier league and championship for example, Nicky Bailey, Josh Wright, Ed Upson, Albert Adomah, Neal Bishop, Joe Devera, Andy Clarke, Darren Currie, Kevin Blackwell, Dion Dublin and Marlon King (whoops!!). Ian Hendon has gone on to be 1st team coach at West Ham. It is also nice to see great players finish their careers at our club, for instance the legendary Jimmy Greaves, Paul Furlong, Gary Breen, Edgar, Martin Chivers, Paul Warhurst, Tony Cottee (Boo!) Gerry Ward and currently Lee Cook. We have also had some big names manage us, Ray Clemence ( who signed and sold Dougie), Alan Mullery and Peter Shreeves.

Hopefully there will be more connections with Palace in future but as I say it is really fantastic seeing Palace play so well lately with our three ex players taking such a prominent role. Good luck for the future.

Oh by the way, if any of you are free on the 28th we play Gateshead in our final match of the season, kick of at 5.15, why not come along and have a look at the Hive and hopefully watch us win the conference for the third time.

COYB's:p
