Messi a true great or a hyped player?

There was much talk before the tournament about Messi and what fantastic player he was, and this maybe he's time at the greatest tournament of all, and become a true great. There are many people who rate Messi as one of the all time greats along side Pele and Maradona. These two players for me are the benchmark with other greats such as Zidane, Cruyff, Charlton etc a tier below them. I personally think Messi is a world class player with exceptional skill, but is he really a true great? Imo no, I think much is made of how many goals he scores against in some cases very poor lower league opposition in Spain, and in that way a much hyped player. Being 31 at the next world cup has he’s time passed or am I wrong and he is a true great.
