Bill Simpson (William George) Palace career

mercredi 16 juillet 2014

A Palace supporting friend who moved to Canada some years ago emailed me yesterday asking for information on Bill Simpson who apparently played for the club in the 1950's. He said that he had a new colleague at work who when she realised my friend was a Palace fan told him that her Dad who had passed away used to play for Palace but she had no information about him or any records (programes etc)

I dug out a few Palace books and found then following information

Bill (William George) Simpson

Born Glasgow 22-5-1922

Signed for CPFC. Jul 1952 played 38 games and scored a good return of 13 goals. Left 1955 no record of where he went or if he retired.

I would guess he may have had an injury tohave only played 38 games in three years (but a good total13 goalsin 38 games) so perhaps he retired? He would have been 33 which in those days was a good age bearing in mind the level of physio and operations on injuries was way behind where we are today.

If anybody has any more informationon Bill Simpson, photo's, programe notes etc, perhaps you could scan and post so that my friend in Canada can show his daughter and she will have something to add to her memories of her Dad.

I started watching Palace in 1959 and only have a few programes pre that date. I have not come across Bill before, anybody remember him?

Cheers :p
