Suggested Team and Formation For: Wolves (h) 06/11

dimanche 31 octobre 2021

Chance of going top half of the table, positive goal difference and a chance to get into a winning run - big game I’d say.

I’d go:

Guaita
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Milivojevic
McArthur - Gallagher
Olise - Edouard - Zaha

Butland, Clyne, Tomkins, Kelly, Kouyate, Hughes, Schlupp, Ayew, Benteke

The Man City Fans Views

I went onto their website expecting to read a whole load of excuses about time-wasting tactics, bad refereeing, lucky goals, Zaha cheats etc etc

Quite the opposite

I read the first 10 pages and barely a word of criticism of Palace, or any suggestion that we didn't fully deserve to win. But loads of criticism about City players - especially Laporte, Grealish and KDB

If you want to read a forum in meltdown after we beat their team, enjoy!

Worst place you've lived and why?

Obvious spin off from the 'best place' thread but anyway...

Plumstead in the mid 90's. What an absolute shithole, nothing good to say about the place at all, a sort of forgotten wasteland, Zombie apocalypse.

We now have the game craft of a big team and foul and niggle like winners!

Thanks to our manager ...

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Van 4×4 kingcab pickup stolen off my drive!

samedi 30 octobre 2021

Just woke up after the Ring doorbell went off to see that my van has been stolen off the drive .... rang 999 but couldn't remember the reg number!

Then really did wake up and I don't own such a vehicle, quite scary that the country has become so Lawless nowadays that criminals can just walk into your dream and steal your car from under your nose!

Struggling to go back to sleep as the dream criminals are obviously running a mock!

What is Our Ceiling This Season?

10 games in and many were predicting we'd be in the bottom 3 at this point.

Not only are we not in the bottom 3, we're only 4 points off 7th and 5 points off 4th having played 7 of last season's top 8 with Eze still to come back in.

So how high can we finish?

Thank you Patrick Vieira

You have brought back the joy of watching Palace play, even with the disappointment of the ending of the brighton, arsenal games and the games v Leicester and Newcastle where we should have easily won we could see how you have transformed this side almost immediately. You give youth a chance, you change formations and personnel to suit who we are playing and you have in game management

You clearly have the respect of the dressing room. I thought you were a goid signing for us but i thought we’d struggle a season before youtook us to a new level butthe fact youve done in the first ten games with such a tough start shows this club is finally showing our potential

Long may it continue

Best place you've lived and why?

Well GG just gave me inspiration, with his use of a car. Inasmuch as I thought about the best place I've lived in my 6 decades of my life.

I wondered how people felt about this. Everyone is obviously different, it could be interesting to read the responses.

For me, well Forest Hill was my Childhood right up till 18 years or slightly more... Stony Stratford... Symptomatic of the white flight from London in the late 70's with the rest of the family... First Independent move back to the mecca of South Norwood albeit sharing with a elderly distant relative (Cousins father in law to be exact) ... walking distance to Selhurst, which was a massive bonus... Then Catford, then Peckham then migration.

If I had to pick out of those, I reckon Peckham was the most Vibrant, plus it was the first time I lived with a female and all that entails, loved living there. Now I'd say Coburg, Melbourne. as it has the best of all worlds... Vibrant, almost as multi-cultural as Peckham, plenty of public transport, trams, train and buses, parks, restaurants, bars, and the longest shopping strip in Australia.

Hated living in Milton Keynes, especially in the 70's as it was just one giant remote estate.... loved South Norwood and living within walking distance of Selhurst. Coburg pips the lot though.

Over to you.

Suggestion: Dele Alli

As per prefix, Dele Alli?

Heavily linked with a move away (Newcastle) from Spurs due to a serious drop of form over the last 18months.

100% a long shot without doubt, but potentially a loan next season to replace Gallagher? Without doubt he is a quality player, London based, could really find some form working under Vieira.

Wilf and Macca's contracts and possible extensions - what do we do?

With January closing in upon us and with what will be 18 months remaining on Wilf's contract and 6 months on Macca's - what do we do?

Do we offer Wilf large(r) wages and hope he commits again for what will be effectively, the remains of his career? That said, he's 28 now and we'll be essentially chucking large wages at a player that will have very little sell on value. However, whilst he's not always on top of his game, he's still a very important part of who we are and what we represent. Not to mention, always being a major threat.

Now Macca. I don't think anyone could have predicted how Pat coming to the club would have given Macca such a new lease of life. He's been amazing throughout and every game pretty much. But, he's just turned 34, and how long can he keep up the work rate and standards he's set this season.

Will be interesting to see what happens in the near future. What would you do in CPFC's and the player's position?

PhD study

I was just wondering if anyone on the BBS has done or previously considered doing PhD study, and if you found it to be worthwhile from both a career and personal growth perspective?

I have recently just finished a Master's degree and I am thinking about applying to do a PhD next year, although I am slightly unsure if it's worth doing and if it would be better to focus on getting into a job that would allow me to start building a career, instead of 3/4 years of further study at low pay.

Any opinions would be welcome! As there are a lot of people on here with insight into things that are worth listening too.

IFAB looking to make 5 subs rules permanent

It's still going to be up to the leagues/fa to implement it but

This is something we were very vocally against a year or two back and I think drove voting against it.

Ironically now with the squad improvements this would favour us if the whole squad were fit.

We can't fit Wilf, Jeff, Will, Jairo, Michael, Ebs, Tekkers and Eddy in the same 11. For sure I think PV would like the additional tactical options the two extra subs would provide. It would also maybe help Jez and Scott get some minutes also.

German Eagles - or German rental knowledge

Hello all.

Just wondering if there is anyone on the lovely BBS that could help me with a couple of questions about moving to Germany and finding a place (apartment to rent) pretty quickly - before Xmas?

Feel free to PM if that's easier!

Cheers in advance

Junior Training Day

My son got a place on the junior training day this Friday, but the confirmation email omitted to say where it will be held!

Have emailed them as they suggested, but they said 48 hours to reply and it's for this Friday!

Anyone know where it's being held?

Cheers!

I thought a thread dedicated to the wonderful shitshow that is often this region was well overdue.

There is the joyous stuff among the military coups, corruption, migration, and general shithousery.

I think I will glance over to the referee and kick off towards the Holmesdale by talking about the up and coming Chilean elections - specifically for the Presidency.....

Cancelling Virgin Broadband - Preinstall

Hi all,

We moved house recently and wanted to bring our Virgin Fibre contract with us as they'd be great in our old house. All seemed fine, all booked in for 2 days after we move in - then the day before they come, everything gets bumped by three weeks because they need to get some permits, and bring cable to the property (which we were not advised when booking the move with them).

Fast forward three weeks and they did the same again, and like clockwork, they have done it again. We have since contacted Sky, who were up an running in less than a week due to the Openreach fibre lines already being in place.

I have spent a great deal of time trying to get through to Virgin to cancel the installation, but can I?! No, I get passed like a parcel from team to team to team and then the line goes dead. The last time I got to the pre-install team I got a direct number for their department. I (obviously) got cut off again, so phone the number, which is just greeted with a pre-recorded message stating that some lines are currently not in use to protect their staff due to COVID.

Has anyone got any nifty tips or tricks to get through to them? (Aware this is a stab in the dark)

so after much thought i finally plumped for a Renault Arkana only to find supply a major issue (they are prioritizing retail over personal contract hire) and the price has gone up by nearly £50 a month since the original quote! since then i have put deposits on 2 KIA Sportages gt line-s to have them sold under me and been told by Skoda i have to wait 9 months for a kamiq!!

i have visited car showrooms with no new stock and no hope of getting a car anytime soon. it seems like a total nightmare, and to top it all Suzuki will probably not let me extend my car lease as they want the car back to sell as second hand cars are worth so much!

anyone else having issues, and if you work at a dealer have you got any new cars to sell me lol

Heat Pumps

Well they're definitely coming.

Who's got one? Are you thinking of taking the plunge to take advantage of the government incentives? I had a new gas boiler fitted 2 years ago so I expect that'll be the last gas one I buy.

Anyone got a happy story to tell about them? Or a horror story? And how much to install one in a normal 3 bed house?

PS I've given up trying to understand how they work...

Team v Man City ?

dimanche 24 octobre 2021

Presumably we won't play as in previous years and just have nine/ten behind the ball, nor try and take them on head to head. After getting stuffed in the first half yesterday, Brighton took the game to Man City in the second half and caused them problems. Perhaps City took their foot off the gas, knowing the game was essentially won. But if we don't want to be 3-0 down at half time or full -time, what's our best team for trying to get something out of next week's game ?

PATRICK VIERA RED BLUE ARMY.

Good morning all. Obviously their is a pattern occurring. We can not finish teams off. Some of the blame to be placed at Benteke/guehi yesterday. As a person who works in football/Soccer here in the US. Whilst I am not comparing myself am not a coach of PV caliber. A transition in my experience takes 6 months. I would like us all to appreciate the change/process that PV has made with our change in style and the football is much better to watch then some of the dross from last year. Whilst the results are frustrating. The floodlights will open. We are battering teams. This current team is not used to having the ball. It takes high-levels of mental strength to batter a team like we have been doing and finish off the game. Let's me patience and give the man to Christmas. Eze coming back for us is huge. I see PV developing him into a box to box midfielder.
We are a team going in the right direction. Trust the process.

Bands who should have been huge but never quite got there.

samedi 23 octobre 2021

Was thinking about this in yet another idle moment and UFO came to mind immediately.

What a band and everything was in place to dominate the world of hard rock. Drink and drugs f*cked them up sadly.

I last saw them at the Dorking Halls of all places and they were fantastic!

They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

Blimey, never had to do this before.

I'm only starting it because I'm sick of Macca not getting the credit he deserves. Absolutely outstanding today.

Sorry to tell you this…

Loving the football, but we are droppings lots of points. And it’s lovely to think that we’ve had a hard start but we will thump poor teams. Well that’s not true.

Four teams playing very poorly and four points for us. Newcastle were dreadful and we couldn’t beat them. Not a problem but Brighton, Leicester and Arsenal were dreadful too. We are nowhere near as good as people seem to think.

Being the team that gives the top teams a good game, but then can’t beat the bottom six at home, is not a good place to be. .

Desperate to be wrong but we’ve seen this movie before. We need to get an underserved one nil from somewhere. And fast.

Next Five Games - 2 Wins Minimum

City (A)
Wolves (H)
Burnley (A)
Villa (H)
Leeds (H)

This is Viera's biggest test. Assume city is a write off.

Will need ideally 9 points out of 12 from the next 4. 6/7 at an absolute minimum. Less and we are in big trouble.

Defining month coming up.

Anyone know about home insurance?

Just wanna pick your brains in case anyone in this area. In late summer, we had a major water escape, resulting in it ruining the majority of our downstairs and contents. We are going through the insurance and they are pretty much writing everything off and paying out but some of the things are more than useable with perhaps a bit of restoration/repair. They have said they will send people round to collect items that are being paid out.

My question is, if we chose that we didn't want them take, can we keep and still be paid out?

I could ask them, but I don't want to feel as if we are trying to scam them. We're not and we haven't asked them to right the stuff off - a company came round and made a list off his own back.

Dark days for the NHS

jeudi 21 octobre 2021

I made some comments in the Covid thread and said the NHS was currently seriously threatened and I was asked what I meant. Seeing as is it very separate to Covid I am putting it here.

In the last few weeks the RCN has said it will start to discuss with its members their feelings ahead of a potential ballot on strike action affecting nurses, midwives and HCA’s. A vote is now being taken in Wales in what some see as a test case for wider action. This all relates to the 3% pay offer.

Also today, there was an emergency meeting of GPC England who represent GP practices across the country. They unanimously called out the deliberate and relentless denigration of General Practice. In overwhelming majorities they rejected last weeks wholly unacceptable ‘rescue plan’ from NHS England and the Secretary of State; encouraged all practices to disengage with the PCN project; supports them to not fulfil a couple of worthless contractual requirements.

However most significantly they will now seek undated resignation letters from practices to he held centrally and submitted when 50% are held. They have also demanded the negotiation of a new GP contract.

It stops short of what I thought might happen which is to hold resignations of the main contracts which would have the potential to collapse the NHS in 6 months. It is however very serious and the strength of feeling I get from the GP’s I speak to is that they may well back it all the way this time.

Eastern Eagles, and Flying High Fanzines

As I further clear out my loft, I have found the following:-

Eastern Eagles fanzines Issues 6-13 and 15-19. No.19 was the last one.

Flying High fanzine Issues 1,4,5&8.

Holmesdale.Net fanzine from about 2003 - just one issue.

Any one want these. If you cover the postage, I will be happy to send them yo you.

Long shot - any Newcastle home tickets?

Yeah I know it's going to be no, but I've suddenly got to be in London this w/e and if anyone's got one or two tix for the Newcastle game I'd be utterly ******* delighted, I haven't been to Selhurst for 4 years ffs! Longest break in my life.:sob::sob:

Why can't we defend at corners ?

So many goals conceded at corners. All three at Liverpool and both at Arsenal. Worst record in the League I believe. So what's going wrong? Who is our defensive coach ? Do we need son of Pulis ?

Need to go at them from the start. Schlupp and Hughes might be needed off the bench. Ayew to help us close the game out :p

The end of the one man team?

For me the biggest win from last night is finally having a team who can play football, create chances and look threatening without Wilf. First time ever in our recent history and has taken us 8 games to achieve this. Credit to everyone despite the gut wrenching injury time hammer blow.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Arsenal 1 - Palace 1

lundi 18 octobre 2021

Another really impressive performance that deserved more than a solitary point. It says a lot that we are coming away deflated that we 'only' got a draw away to Arsenal.

There's so much to be pleased about in that performance - I thought we controlled the game for large spells and much of our passing at the back was controlled and impressive. The work-rate was excellent and we did very well to get back into the game after they started brightly.

The main frustration for me was how we got into some threatening positions but the final ball wasn't quite there. But we kept pressing and got our rewards with some tenacious closing down to score two excellent goals. Both super finishes and I thought we were going to see it out.

I can see why Vieira brought Tomkins on but we desperately missed the Eduoard out ball and we invited them on to us far too much. Saying that, we should still defend the corner better - set-pieces are our Achilles Heel at the moment.

Lots of positives though: Eduoard was excellent, as were Mitchell, Guehi, Gallagher and McArthur imo.

Guiata - 7 - Some superb saves, including for their first goal which he couldn't do anything about. His kicking isn't great though.
Ward - 7 - continues to confound with some excellent defensive displays.
Mitchell - 8 - one of his best games; thought he was superb and got forward well too. Not easy against Pepe but he hadn't him well.
Guehi - 8 - scary to think how good this guy could be. So calm on the ball and very strong in the tackle, with good speed too.
Andersen - 7 - cut out the silly stuff and looked good for it.

Luka - 6 - did ok but some lax passing and his setpieces were largely ineffective. Surely time to take him off them?
McArthur - 7 - rarely ever below a 7/10. Very good here and did well to avoid a second yellow. Walked the tightrope well and broke up play effectively.
Gallagher - 8 - his energy is immense and he played a major role in the second goal as well as having a great strike at the end of the first half. Player of the season at this rate.

Ayew - 5 - I'll never fault his work-rate but his quality has dropped off significantly. He was guilty of giving the ball away far too much but at least played a key role in the equaliser.
Benteke - 6 - an extra point for a lovely finish but he was sloe and cumbersome throughout and wasted a lot of potential opportunities. Didn't press from the front and he was languid at times.
Eduoard - 8 - superb finish and generally he was very good at finding pockets of space and linking play. Clever player who should be deployed centrally. If we can supply him he will score a lot of goals.

Subs
Kouyate - 5 - poor performance. Bad on the ball and mad a mistake heading out for a corner at the end rather than a throw in. His inability on the ball is a big problem. Hoping Hughes will get a chance.
Olise - 6 - another assist with a key contribution for the second goal. Didn't get to see much of him and would love to see him start on Saturday.
Tomkins - 5 - bad sub to make as we ceded too much ground and didn't have much of an out ball after Eduoard went off. On another day it comes off though...

All in all, a very good performance that deserved more. We are due some luck!

Video Editing Help pls

I am trying to create a highlight video of my lad for some coaches in the USA but some of the videos are somewhat "far away" I want to stick an arrow on his head and track him. I simply can't work out how to do it or even a program that will let me, would be a start. At the moment I am using video editor in windows. I don't mind buying some SW but its got to be "video editing for dummies" Really really simple to use. Advice welcome

SE25 magazine, The Guide and yearly team photo wallcharts

As I clear out more of my loft, I have come across a number of Palace related items, which I would like to give to a good home, rather than stick in the recycling bin.
I have 14 (out of 19?) issues of SE25 (glossy) magazine that was sold alongside the programme from 2004 to 2011. I also have the May 2010 Glad All Over 20th Anniversary magazine of the 1990 FA Cup Semi Final victory over Liverpool.
I have 5 copies of The Guide, one for each season from 2005/06 to 2009/10.
I have copies of the season team photo wallchart from 2003/04 onwards, which were given away with the programme.
All items free, but I would appreciate covering of the postal cost. If anyone wants these, please message me.

Anyone that has these types of items may want to make some adjustments as to where they point and what they record. I've tried to do it myself but if I block the properties opposite for their privacy I also block the top third of anyone coming to the door which is somewhat unhelpful

A friend of mine informs me that sadly Paul Hinshelwood is not at all well. Those fortunate enough to have seen Paul play, will know that he was a wholehearted player who left nothing on the pitch. I am sure I am not alone in wanting to send him, his family and friends our very best wishes.

Shed insulation

Got a simple cheap timber shed which we're looking to use to store some furniture in for a year or so but as it is it'll probably end up covered in mould.

Would getting wrap around sticky insulation on the walls and ceiling + a couple of air vents keep it dry and warm enough to stop the mould or is it a non-starter?

Visiting Barcelona - activity/restaurant/bar recommendations

Hi guys.

I'm heading back to visit Barcelona again in a few weeks time with the Mrs. I've been quite a few times and always enjoy myself when there but does anyone have any good recommendations for activities and bars and restaurants while there? Always looking for new things to do - particularly any cool/fun places I might not have thought of. Cheers

Air fryers

I had the original Tefal Actifry but it recently died after years of faithful service. Since then there are a lot on the market and I'm a bit stumped.

Basically I want to do chips, and plenty of them. I'd rather have deep fat fried ones but it stinks and is a messy clean when it comes to fat replacement.

I felt that the actifry was short for 4 people, and would take ages when loaded because you had to overload it, then you'd still be short, so I need more.

Looking at the Ninja dual one, but opinion please!

lundi 11 octobre 2021

Good evening guys. I've been a BBS reader for over 13 years and contribute the occasional reply. I wanted to see if I can get some help from the BBS. Mods please remove if I'm not allowed to do this.

I moved from the UK to the US in 1997 after two years as a Palace season ticketholder. I got to experience the worst feeling in person when Claridge shinned past Martyn. A year later I was hugging my sister at Wembley when Hopkin curled "one".

I currently live in rural Alabama. I took a sizable pay cut from my insurance job in March for an opportunity to positively affect my local community. A community that has struggled for a long time. I live in one of the poorest counties in Alabama and accepted a job at a start up public charter school as the Director of Operations. In our town, white children have historically attended private schools or attended schools outside the county whereas black children attended the public schools. Our school wanted to be a catalyst for change and opened in August of this year with a diverse student population of different racial and socio economic backgrounds. We do not receive any local funding but have been awarded some state and federal grants. As a small school of 168 students and planning to grow, we have faced many challenges trying to open a school during a pandemic. We purchased a prior school building in desperate need of some TLC and used a lot of the grant money to get the building up to life safety and fire codes.

As we strive to make a difference in each students life and provide equal educational opportunities not histroically afforded in our county, we also ask for help from our community and beyond. Kids in our area do not have local clubs to join or facilities to play sports. We are asking for donations to help start our basketball, football (soccer), and volleyball programs. Programs we can open up to the community to provide youth with a place to learn and grow.

The Eagles family has always been a close knit group whether evidenced in "When Eagles Dare" or from my own experiences meeting some of you in Richmond, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Harrisburg. I ask that if any if you can spare a quid or 5 or 10 to please do so. I understand that none of you probably have ties to my community and you may live in a similar community yourself. All I ask is that if you can afford to give, the small city of Marion, Alabama in Perry County and our school Breakthrough Charter School will be greatly appreciative.

If interested in more information about our school, please feel free to ask or you may visit our website at To view the link you have to Register or Login or find us on Facebook/Twitter. Donations are accepted at To view the link you have to Register or Login

Thank you for reading. Come on you Palace!

GTA: The Definitive Edition

Quote:

Later this month marks a very special anniversary for Rockstar Games: 20 years since the original release of Grand Theft Auto III — the game that set players loose in the sprawling, three-dimensional metropolis of Liberty City with a new and unprecedented sense of freedom and immersion. In addition to carving a new path for the open world genre, Grand Theft Auto III established Grand Theft Auto as a cultural phenomenon, alongside its two subsequent — and equally legendary — entries in the series, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Grand Theft Auto fans who have supported the games over the past two decades. Your love and appreciation for these games has helped push the Grand Theft Auto series forward with every iteration.

In honor of the upcoming anniversary, today we are excited to announce that all three games will be coming to current generation platforms later this year in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals. We’re extremely excited to share more about these groundbreaking titles in the coming weeks — stay tuned!

Top 3 female singers in your opinion.

I was thinking about this in an idle moment and came up with:

1: Aretha Franklin

1: Dusty Springfield

3: Karen Carpenter

I couldn't decide between Aretha and Dusty so they tied for top spot.

It would be interesting to see who else you really rate.

The Toilet rats are here

No not a Tory conference reference, as this would be the wrong thread, but this:

They are coming to bite you in the arse in a toilet near you soon.

Golden Eagles Membership

Hi, Looked for threads re the now defunct club but found none. Some years ago after the new owners took over, my Golden Eagles direct debits were atill being taken and were in an HSBC account at Thornton Heath branch.

Was anyone successful in getting a refund as I know it wasn't just me that was affected.

Brazilian player assaults ref

As it says. Warning, To view the link you have to Register or Login.

The player has been arrested and detained - a judge will decide if he is to be released on bail. His contract has also been terminated.

The ref has been discharged from hospital.

Leicester's Medic

I've been looking to see if anyone had posted about the medic that came on to see to Vardy in the second half. Unfortunately he didn't appear on MotD (I was telling my wife to watch for the comedic content) but does anyone have any idea wtf he was wearing? Any why?

Do we need a new formation?

Would a change to 3-5-2 help us? I must admit to being concerned with our current defensive capabilities. Like most people, I love to see Andersen and Guehi passing and moving forward with the ball, but for me a fit James Tomkins would be in my defence. How about this team?

Are they down for you?

I'm not on the latter two these days but I'm quite enjoying the peace and quiet with Whatsapp down.

Must be causing some people real issues at work though.

Embrace the defensive errors

dimanche 3 octobre 2021

Plenty of defensive errors leading to goals this season…
- both today
- the Brighton debacle
- switching off at corners at Anfield
- Anderson’s unfortunate header onto Antonio
- and you could argue the Chelsea goals were spectacular or preventable

Without those mistakes we’d be looking absolutely formidable.

Part of this transition is us having to get used to mistakes. Remember last season when we laughed at Brighton deserving to win and somehow losing or drawing? Well, maybe that’s us this season.

Pleasure to watch this football, but let’s all accept these defensive errors will happen for a bit, particularly with the young but improving players.

Pandora Papers

It seems every few years there's a new one of these, exposing how the wealthy abuse their power. Disappointingly, I notice that To view the link you have to Register or Login focuses on "some 35 current and former leaders and more than 300 public officials" but only twice mentions billionaires, despite there being 133 of them in the leak. The dark money is the corruption - the politics may create the money or be created by the money but it's always the money and it's always because it is hidden.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Leicester (home) 03/10/21

Well someone had to to add the thread .

Terry Long R.I.P.

Surprised no one has mentioned the passing recently of Terry Long, our second highest appearance maker, 480 between 1955 & 1970, who then became our assistant manager.
I was disappointed that the club didn't have a minutes applause for him, especially since we remembered a Liverpool player only this afternoon.

Benteke off?

Anyone else notice how when he walked off he sort of grabbed the badge then gave his shirt to someone in the crowd? May be nothing but it seemed the gesture of a player's who off somewhere.

Ticket Sale Notification

In my settings I get club notifications but I am not getting details of when tickets go on sale.

Any suggestions please?

Main Stand Fire Last Night!

Hi All,

There are reports on social media, there was a fire in the main stand last night!

Anyone know if this is true or not? If so, hope it doesn’t cancel today’s game?

Not sure if mentioned elsewhere but our former player/manager has taken over at Welling, replacing another former player Steve Lovell.

Travel Information: Replacement Bus Service

Just checked the times for trains for tomorrow's match with Leicester. It's a replacement bus service from Sutton to Selhurst or Norwood Junction. Estimated time 41 minutes.

Local government pay down 25% since 2010

Pretty much the same for the civil service and many other workers.

These are staggering real term pay cuts.

Someone today on 30k would be on 37.5k today, and someone on 40k, would be on 50k, if pay rises had kept up with inflation. In the space on just over a decade.

Crystal Ball: Leicester Home

After 95 minutes of positive football and a disappointing final minute on Monday night, our next match against Leicester is at Selhurst tomorrow.

The Last Vesiges of the Russian Monarchy

vendredi 1 octobre 2021

One for CR this.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

As far as continuing survival of the Romanav Dynasty goes, these people don-t seem to have done bad for themselves following years of sacrifice and starting again with nothing.

The grooms CV is impressive considering his ancestors were probably eating rats. No back scratching among Europe-s elites going on here.

I particularly liked the billionaire high authority government official who is a 'monarchist'. Not sure how that all this works after over 100 years of 'communist' and modern Russian rule.

Seems the royal ancestral privileged line runs all the way down to kising cousins.

Lop-sided Palace

Watching the games so far this season, it is clear we are a very left sided team. Now I agree this is a lot down to Wilf being in the left, and Ayew being on the right. But the situation goes further back to Mitchell and Ward, with Mitchell acting a lot more like a winger, and Ward more like a third centre back in some scenarios.

So, although we set up with a 4-3-3, really in attack we are often some crazy 3-5-2 with Mitchell becoming a midfield/wing kind of role and Ayew becoming a right sided midfielder, with many of the players grouped on the left.

The reason I bring this all up is because many are calling for Olise to "fix" this Ayew issue, but if we add him is one of the following going to happen?

1) Just like Ayew, is Olise going to be dragged back to get the ball and create?
2) He stays forward and leaves a gap between himself and Wardy which could be exploited

In this posters humble opinion, the whole issue is that the midfield 3 either stay central or gravitate left forcing the right sided attacker to fill the gap. If our midfield were better at maintaining a slightly wider shape, or rotated right more often would we see Ayew be more successful? It feels to me like the left side has graduated from Royball, and the right side is forced to continue it to cover up a possible exposure.

Could a younger left back fix it by being able to cover the distance, maybe. But I fear Olise won't have the impact people expect because of this issue and recieve undeserved criticism (which maybe the the criticism for Ayew is??)

As my sister's always tell me, symmetry is beauty, so maybe if we can fix this, we'll win the prem. Or maybe beer two has gone to my head, either way, happy Friday and enjoy your weekend :)
