Lockdown 2 ( will football continue ? )

samedi 31 octobre 2020

So we are heading into another lockdown

Will the football continue as i guess this is essential right :hmph:

Suggested Team and Formation For: Leeds (home)

—————————————Guaita———————————————
Ward——————Kouyate————Tomkins————————-PVA
Townsend———McCarthy————Riedewald———————Eze
————————Batshuayi————Benteke——————————

If Ward is unfit I’d seriously consider Kouyate at right back, especially with our plethora of top quality options at centre back.

Sean Connery

RIP. Just heard breaking on TalkShite there.

Sean Connery RIP

Death just announced:sob:

Should Eze Start Next Game

unless he's injured or gets the 'rona, should Eze play next game? in my opinion YES

Match Updates: Oct 31 - Nov 2

There’s nothing better than an early doors Palace win and sitting back with an inner glow watching the other sides squirm and battle for points.

Not sure I’ll bother with any games this weekend.

Unhappy Halloween everyone :(

Anybody recognise this player?

Can anybody recognise the player training between Vic Rouse in the front and Bill Glazier at the back. Photo taken circa 1961

Nathaniel Clyne

Thank **** this is short term!

He is absolutely all over the place and costing us big time at the back.

He looked like a Sunday league player tonight in the first half. Not much match practise aside he doesn’t have a clue where to be positionally. Can’t remember him being like this before but this is not the Clyne that left Palace.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Wolves (away)

Poll to follow when mods are keen to add it but let’s at least get the discussion going...

New sponsor?

I’ve noticed on the latest training photos, all the training and leisure tops of the players have Sure on them instead of the other W88 monstrosity ?
Have we changed shirt sponsor on the quiet ?

RIP Nobby Stiles

This year is properly shit. :(

This kind of story makes me sick, how the hell is three and a half years an adequate or appropriate sentence? And of course she has some, "Medical condition," don't they all ffs :S::S::S:

Should be hung from the neck until dead in a public execution along with all rapists, child abusers, drug dealers and terrorists.

Artist impression drawings for extension

Not sure I will get any success in asking this here, but I'm struggling for ideas.

I have inherited approved plans for a house just purchased, but would like to make some minor tweaks to the design whilst also getting some 3D colour artist impressions drawn up - all I currently have are 2D black and white drawings.

Can anyone here help with such a service, or point me in the direction of someone that can?

Something in a similar style to the below image:

Thanks a lot.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

CPFC Season Review 1989/90 - DVD

mercredi 28 octobre 2020

I hope this is ok to put this on here. This has been professionally transferred from the original VHS tape to DVD. This is a copy of the first Crystal Palace Season Review.

Palace returned to the top division and had a very good season with impressive performances and two great cup runs. If you never saw Wright and Bright playing for Palace this is for you.

If you are interested in obtaining a DVD with case and artwork from the original VHS (see photo) for £10 please pm me.

Running time is 90 minutes. Please remember that it is VHS quality.

What Was my Toy Called?

Late 70s holiday. Dad bought us a sort of plastic rugby ball with a hole through it. Two long strings threaded through. And then you sort of pulled the strings apart and the rugby ball would whizz from one end of the string to the other. It could get really fast with thrilling sibling injuring potential.

What was it called? Can you still buy them?

Tony Collins: The Palace history maker dubbed 'a pioneer' by Roy Hodgson

Remember him better than Roy then. Was my favourite Palace player in my first few years as a fan. Probably because as an 8 year old he was always the nearest attacking player to where my father positioned me. 😃

Dr Andrew Wakefield and the MMR debate

Following on from my 'spat' on the Coronavirus thread with some well respected posters (ones who I actually like and still do) I thought it best to post this elsewhere, so as to not derail that thread.

I have no problem with anyone giving me abuse on here, particularly as I understand why they would feel strongly about the credibility of Dr Andrew Wakefield given that he was struck off because of his work and then heavily demonised.

I do not expect any one of those who have expressed their views so strongly to be interested to listening to this one hour long podcast with Wakefield circa 2012 but for those who are open will hopefully hear that Wakefield is far from being the demon he is portrayed as but someone driven by his belief in his, and others, research.

I make no comment on whether he is right or not, but I do feel his demonisation has been a PR exercise and the reasons for that he mentions. There is no doubt he is presenting a biased view and that is perhaps understandable, but that should not be ignored when listening to this.

For anyone who has an interest should listen to it. For me what angered me at the time is what he discusses from 31:00 re the option of multi vaccinations being made available to concerned parents. It still angers me.

Hey BBS folk. Some of you go back far enough on here to remember when my son Connor was born. Well, he was 18 back in August and last month went into the studio to record his debut single. As well as doing the vocals, he played all the instruments bar the drums. Have a listen. Tell me what you think. Various comments so far include someone saying it sounded like a cross between the Libertines and The Strokes. Reviews welcome!

Suggested Team and Formation For: Wolves

Depends on availability. I think Dann has done enough to retain his place regardless. Tempted to start PVA and Mitchell even if Ward is fit. Mitchell is improving game by game, but PVA is our best fullback for now. I can see strong arguments for Ward or Clyne too. Schlupp justifying his place but I'd like to see Eze on earlier. Luka played some decent forward balls but both Macs better and not that I'd move Kouyate but he's also better. If Luka does play, please take him off set pieces apart from pens. Bats could do with a goal before Ayew is back in contention.

Sky highlights

Apologies if already another thread.
I normally record / watch the extended highlights on sky, but haven't seen them so far this season. I thought this might have been because the games were on sky or bt, but this weekend, there doesn't seem to be any game of the day, or match choice.
Has sky stopped doing these?
Thanks in advance.

Moving out of London

Like so many this lock down has lead me to consider a move out of London. With the company i work for putting in place plans for us to work from home permanently with one or two days in the office.

What are the best places to go in terms of value for money and travel into london? The mrs will work at least initially full time in London until she finds a more local hospital to work out (she's a CNS).

Front runners currently.. Oxted and Edenbridge Town.

Happy to go anywhere in any direction from London centre.

I'd like to get a 4 bed semi or detached for c.£650k. Maybe even less if it can be done.

Meyer - playing style 'like Lionel Messi'

On the Wikipedia page for Max Meyer, his 'playing style' still appears appealing...

'Because of his dribbling abilities and his high speed, his playing style is compared to that of Lionel Messi. When asked about his good technique, Meyer replied, "At the age of 10 I dabbled in futsal for four years besides the football club. In addition to the three workouts at the club I had one complementary futsal session per week. Saturday noon was the time for the football game and in the afternoon the futsal game took place".'

I refuse to pay the £15 but seeing as sky and bt have confirmed pubs will be given theses games at no extra cost i feel i can morally view it at a pub... even though it will surely cost me more and it increases the risk of spreading a deadly virus.

Palace pubs in and around Croydon that will have some sort of atmosphere?

RIP Spencer Davis

Spencer Davis has passed away sadly. The Spencer Davis Group were very popular in the Mod clubs of the mid 60's and are held up highly among Mods still today. Great songs blasted out by the great Stevie Winwood

Their albums are one of the first go to records when I want to drift back to those great days of the 60's

RIP Spencer

I need three new tyres for the motor. Grrrr.

Where does one get the best value for money around Croydon these days?

Jack Butland - discussion thread

Newly signed goalkeeper Jack Butland takes the No.1 shirt - the first shot stopper to do so since Julian Speroni.

Of course, he's the first new keeper since Speroni retired, but this should help his confidence. He could be a long term keeper for Palace if Kiely works his magic.

European Premier League

A $6bn (£4.6bn) financing package is being drawn up to back the launch of a new European Premier League, Sky News can reveal.

Liverpool and Manchester United are in talks about a bombshell plot involving Europe's biggest football clubs to join a new FIFA-backed tournament that would reshape the sport's global landscape.

Sky News has learnt that financiers are assembling a $6bn (£4.6bn) funding package to assist the creation of what could become known as the European Premier League.

More than a dozen teams from England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain are in negotiations about becoming founder members of the competition.

As many as five English clubs could sign up to join it, with a provisional start date said to have been discussed as early as 2022.

Sources said that FIFA, football's world governing body, had been involved in developing the new format, which is expected to comprise up to 18 teams, and involve fixtures played during the regular European season.

The top-placed teams in the league would then play in a knockout format to conclude the tournament, with prize money for the winners expected to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds each year.

One football industry figure said that a formal announcement about the plans was possible as soon as the end of this month, although on Tuesday a number of key details - including the full list of participating clubs - had yet to be finalised and the plans could still fall apart.

The source described it as "potentially the most important development in world club football for decades".

According to insiders, a handful of English sides have been approached about joining the league, with the other candidates comprising Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Fulham (away)

dimanche 18 octobre 2020

————————————-Guaita—————————————————
Ward————-—Kouyate———————Cahill————————-PVA
Townsend—-—-McArthur——————Riedewald—————-Schlupp
—————————————-Eze—————————————————-
—————————————Zaha—————————————————-

Give Ward another chance, that mistake was very out of character for him. Mitchell did well, but PVA might get us on the front foot. Schlupp and Townsend good defensively in the last one, and will help us keep our structure. Batshuayi on the bench ready to come on if we need a goal, but give Eze a chance in the No10 position.

Disgrace

34% possession, 1 shot on target, 2 corners against piss poor opposition in our most important game of the season for the fans is completely unacceptable. How the hell can we splash 20 mill on Eze and shove him on the bench :veryangry:veryangry. Why do we wait until 83rd minute to make any change when we're getting battered :veryangry:veryangry

I get that he will probably over the course of the season keep us up but it's tedious as hell to watch and honestly I'd take relegation if it meant not having to watch 10 men behind the ball all game every game. And frankly any decent manager could keep this side up no problem, without the absolute shite we have to watch under Roy. This notion that without Roy we'd be certainties for the drop, well sure an appointment could go wrong, but that's the same with any appointment ever. could we be doing much much better? in my opinion a resounding yes, and we need to make the change.

A performance like that against BHA should be an instant sacking imo, and I hope Parish has the bottle to pull the trigger first thing Monday morning.

Project Don’t Start

Running counter to our chairman’s gregarious campaign for fans to be let into the ground, I feel that I must run a counter campaign for fans to NOT be allowed into the ground until 2021/22 at the earliest. We need to recognise not just the cash reserves of the owners, but also the mental health of the fans, and the value for money that a season ticket at Selhurst Park entails.

I’d like to call for a full refund for the Holmesdale faithful in A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S plus those who usually reside in the Arthur, the Whitehorse and the Main Stand. The ones who chose to renew out of the 20,000. Justice for the SP20,000. A message to the club: please find your own finance plan rather than conning us into thinking the funds are going towards a permanent striker who can create entertainment at Selhurst Park. Project Don’t Start needs guarantees that we won’t be subjected to such misery as we endured last season, and would have endured if we were allowed back into our stadium this season. Now we know things are going to be exactly the same as last season it’s time for action. Please feel free to show your appreciation and concern for the mental health of our loyal fans. It’s time for a full refund for everyone.

Yours in solidarity,

Glaziers Fan.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 1 Brighton 1

Was this the most boring example of HodgeBall you've ever had to witness?

A painful attempt at playing football, utterly dull.

Squad Depth

LOts of people complain about poor windows etc, however you would expect Butland to replace Henderson next game on the bench we now have good depth.

Our bench when Butland come in would be 2 former England internationals, a dutch international a Serbian, a french international and an England U21.

If McCarthy comes back that would be an Irish international with a dutch U21 dropping to the bench. The only not internationally recognised players in out matchday squad are likely to Mitchell, Ward and Guaita.

Hard to argue that the squad is not deeper with quality than it ever has been.

A safe place for Tory voters to apologise

Calling all Tory voters.

As the serious consequences of how this government has handled and continues to handle the covid crisis is becoming ever more apparent, and the double whammy of a No deal Brexit ever nearer, I offer this olive branch of a thread, where you can admit you were wrong and apologise to us all, without anyone calling you a ****.

Please see this as your first step to redemption, a cathartic moment if you like, where you can unburden yourself of the guilt you will at some point be feeling for playing your part in totally ******* up this great country of ours.

You may not need this thread now or even see a need for it, but at some point you will be thankful that it is here for you.

Pubs with outside space showing Palace v Brighton

Hi all,
Sorry if there's a thread on this already but I couldn't find one. Originally me and a couple of mates were going to watch this in the pub but with the tier changing it's not possible.
Does anyone know of any pubs that have outdoor space that are showing the game? I've emailed the boxpark but wanted to check if there were any nuggets out there.
Thanks

Rumour: Connor Wickham

Exclusive: Derby County turn attention to signing Crystal Palace striker

Derby County have turned their attention to signing Crystal Palace forward Connor Wickham, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Rams are desperately trying to bring in a new striker before Friday’s transfer cut-off and have identified the 27-year-old as a potential option.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the Midlands club are plotting a swoop for the English centre-forward before the domestic window shuts tomorrow.

Wickham has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park and the Eagles may be tempted to sell the forward now, rather than lose him on a free next summer.

A series of injuries have limited the former Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday striker to just 39 appearances since the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Hillsborough and scored twice in 13 Championship appearances.

Derby manager Phillip Cocu is keen to sign a new number nine before the domestic transfer window shuts tomorrow at 5pm.

West Brom’s Charlie Austin has already knocked back an approach from the Rams, despite former England captain Wayne Rooney contacting the former Southampton man personally regarding a move.

Football Insider revealed yesterday that discussions has subsequently taken place regarding Austin’s teammate Kenneth Zohore but that deal is up in the air.

Zohore would likely prove to be a more expensive option than Wickham this season as he still has three years remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns.

Getting fed up of the big clubs trying to dictate it all and throw their power around.

18 team Premier League?

Quote:

Manchester United and Liverpool are the driving force behind the biggest changes to English football in a generation and an extraordinary overhaul of the Premier League, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.

The two clubs have worked together on a radical set of proposals – called “Project Big Picture” - that will reshape the finances of the game. The Premier League, the most lucrative sports league in the world, would see a reduction to 18 teams, and controlling power in the hands of the biggest clubs.

In return for tearing up many of the rules that have governed the game since the Premier League’s inception in 1992 there will be £250 million rescue package to the Football League to see them through the Covid crisis.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the details of the working document “Revitalisation” authored by Liverpool’s American ownership Fenway Sports Group with support from United. It anticipates the backing of the other members of the so-called big six, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

In a remarkable set of proposals, which will send shockwaves through the game, 25 per cent of the Premier League’s annual revenue will go to the EFL clubs with £250 million paid up front to see them through the current crisis. There would also be a gift of £100 million to sustain the Football Association.

However, there would be an abolition of the one-club, one-vote principle that has sustained the Premier League since its inception as well as the abolition of the threshold of 14 votes to pass any decision or regulation change.

Under the new proposals, the League Cup and the Community Shield would be abolished. There have been additional discussions that the League Cup would survive but without the participation of the clubs in Europe.

There would be two automatic promotion places for Championship clubs, but the third, fourth and fifth placed clubs would be in a play-off tournament with the 16th placed Premier League club.

The nine clubs who have been in the Premier League for the longest - which includes the big six - would dictate its running in every aspect and would be free to play more games in the expanded Champions League that is anticipated from the 2024-2025 season onwards.

As well as the Premier League dropping from 20 clubs to 18, there would be 24 in each of the Championship, League One and League Two making a total of 90.

The plan is supported by the EFL chairman Rick Parry who has held talks with Liverpool’s principal owner, the American investor John W Henry, and shareholder and director Mike Gordon. In addition, Parry has spoken to the Glazer family, who own United.

The talks began in 2017 but have been accelerated since the coronavirus pandemic has thrust football into the grip of crisis with no fans in stadiums until March at the earliest. Liverpool and United are prepared for a fierce debate over their proposals but they want them implemented as soon as possible.

The Revitalisation document calls for immediate action to cut dramatically what it calls the “revenue chasm” in earnings from television contracts between the Premier League and the EFL. In order to discourage Championship clubs from gambling recklessly on promotion, the parachute payments system would be abolished in favour of the 25 per cent share of Premier League revenue being shared more equitably among EFL clubs.

Under proposals for the new model of distribution of television revenue in the Premier League, Fenway, the driving force behind the document, insist there would be no greater share for the top six. Their stated aim is to eliminate the huge gap in earnings between Premier League and EFL clubs while in return having a greater control of the decisions made by the Premier League.

The document says: “A reset of the economics and governance of the English football pyramid is long overdue”.

The proposals also rewrite the Premier League’s 20-club democracy in favour of placing huge power in the hands of the nine clubs with the longest continual stay in the division. As things stand that is the big six, as well as Everton, Southampton and West Ham. Those nine clubs afforded “long-term shareholder status” would have unprecedented power, with the votes of just six of them required to make sweeping changes. These clubs would even be able to veto a new owner taking over a rival club.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph, Parry said that he had the support of many of his 72 members, many currently facing financial ruin, to go ahead with the plan. He said: “What do we do? Leave it exactly as it is and allow the smaller clubs to wither? Or do we do something about it? And you can’t do something about it without something changing. And the view of our clubs is if the [big] six get some benefits but the 72 also do, we are up for it.”

He accepted there would be opposition from the Premier League clubs outside the big six who would see it as detrimental to their financial prospects with less money and two fewer places in the top flight.

“It is definitely going to be challenging and it is an enormous change so that won’t be without some pain,” Parry said: “Do I genuinely think it’s for the greater good of the game as a whole? Absolutely. And if the [big] six are deriving some benefit then why shouldn’t they. Why wouldn’t they put their names to this otherwise?”

The proposals include:
  • £250 million immediately to the EFL to compensate its clubs for lost matchday revenue, deducted from future television revenue earnings and financed by a loan taken out by the Premier League
  • Special status for the nine longest serving clubs – and the vote of only six of those “long-term shareholders” required to make major changes, including amending rules and regulations, agreeing contracts, removal of the chief executive, and a wide-ranging veto including on club ownership
  • Premier League to go to 18 clubs from 20
  • £100 million one-off gift to the FA to cover its coronavirus losses, the non-league game, the women’s game, the grassroots
  • 8.5 per cent of annual net Premier League revenue to go on operating costs and “good causes” including the FA
  • From the remainder, 25 per cent of all combined Premier League and Football League revenues to go to the EFL clubs
  • Six per cent of Premier League gross revenues to pay for stadium improvements across the top four divisions, calculated at £100 per seat
  • New rules for the distribution of Premier League television income, overseas and domestic, including proposals that base one portion on performance over three years in the league
  • The abolition of the League Cup and the Community Shield
  • 24 clubs each in the Championship, League One and League Two reducing the professional game overall from 92 clubs to 90
  • A women's professional league independent of the Premier League or the FA
  • Two sides automatically relegated from the Premier League every season and the top two Championship teams promoted. The 16th place Premier League club in a play-off tournament with the Championship’s third, fourth and fifth placed teams.
  • Financial fair play regulations in line with Uefa, and full access for Premier League executive to club accounts
  • A fan charter including capping of away tickets at £20, away travel subsidised, a focus on a return to safe standing, a minimum away allocation of eight per cent capacity
  • Later Premier League start in August to give greater scope for pre-season friendlies, and requirement for all clubs to compete once every five years in a summer Premier League tournament
  • Huge changes to loan system allowing clubs to have 15 players out on loan domestically at any one time and up to four at a single club in England

"Britains Got Talent" - allegedly

I usually avoid this stuff on a Saturday night, as I got fed up with the over hyping of acts and the often unwarranted appreciation, constantly expressed in shrieking hysteria.

I watched it again last night though, nothing much else on to watch, and it was the final. We had no less than four magic acts, one was particularly good, unique, modern and genuinely mystifying. One dance couple with a routine that looked like ice dancing, without the ice. A large group of singers made up of young people with various disabilities. A black comedian, who I thought was excellent and should have a very bright future if there is any justice in the entertainment world. A zany hyperactive comedian, who tried very hard, but in my view, failed to hit any spot, and finally the winner, who was a middle aged guy born of music hall parents who did a singing/piano act, mainly about the Covid trials and tribulations in a Victoria Wood style, but without any added stand up gags routine.

It was a public vote decision. I thought it was a bit unfair to include the disabled group against the other acts, as they were always going to get the popular vote for reasons other than purely their talent, and they were the runner ups. The black comedian should have won it in my view, but I can understand that some of the public would not appreciate all of his content.

The real winner were the three theatre musical groups that came on and did a fifteen minute extravaganza socially distancing, ending with a Les Miserables mass chorus on the large stage. This was the first time since March that they had been performing live on a stage, and it was fantastic and very moving, at least for me, and put the the rest of the preceding show into the shade.

How things turn out

If your an old fart like me , you may remember Oldham’s run that consigned us and sir Steve to Division 2, one of the hardest football pills we ever had to swallow. Well my friends guess who is bottom of league 2. So I guess just be happy with the fickle finger of fate ........

How much would you pay for a match?

Ah crap, could a mod add in £0 not paying option for Non Palace please?

Vote for one Palace and one non Palace option.

I was thinking looking at the other thread considering that 85% of voters say they won't be paying the £15 to watch Palace, how much would we pay to watch a PPV match. Surely after all they would make more by charging less ultimately?

So, lets ask that question! Not what you would like to pay but how much WOULD you pay?

Making this multiple choice to include a neutral game option - this obviously much more subjective as naturally not all games are as appealing but I would say for the non Palace option try to think of it as a game you would like to see rather than one you couldn't give a toss about.

Chromecast question

I was given a Chromecast, I just want to cast from laptop and phones. I am not sure what else it does to be honest, however, it was bought and used in the Middle East, and when I plug it in, it is regional dependent and wont work in the UK. For a start I can't think for the life of me why it would be regional, and it there any way I can maybe reset it to use it here.

PPV poll

Are you prepared to pay £14.95 to watch us in either pay per view game?

There was something before the Big Bang says Nobel Prize winner

A new theory about what happened before the Big Bang that created our universe. Apparently, there was another universe and out of the future of that universe, ours was born.

My understanding though was that there was no "before" the BB, simply because time wasn't created until after the bang.

Anyway, there is some evidence for a previous universe in the article, but scepticism from others alongside.

Fulham v Palace & Wolves v Palace on Sky/BT Box Office £14.95 EACH

Absolute shocking decision from the Premier League:

Football fans will have to pay £14.95 per match to watch certain televised games from next weekend after the Premier League revealed a controversial new pay-per-view model to boost club finances.

At least 14 matches will be televised behind paywalls on BT Sport Box Office and Sky Sports Box Office, and the fee will be required regardless of whether viewers are current Sky and BT Sport subscribers or club season-ticket holders.

All profits will go to Premier League clubs and not the broadcasters.

Until now, every Premier League match since lockdown ended has been televised in the UK across Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC while games remain behind closed doors.

ky Sports pundit Gary Neville tweeted: “This is a really bad move by the @premierleague to charge £14.95 for single matches that have been shown free for 6 months!”

A Premier League statement read: "The Premier League today confirmed all fixtures until the end of October will continue to be made available to fans to watch live in the UK. Under these new arrangements, the current live match selections will remain in place and will be broadcast as normal. In addition, the five matches per round not already selected will be made available to supporters on a pay-per-view basis, accessed via BT Sport Box Office and Sky Sports Box Office platforms.

"Clubs today agreed this interim solution to enable all fans to continue to watch their teams live. The Premier League has worked closely with Sky Sports and BT Sport to provide this arrangement and is grateful for their support. The agreement will be regularly reviewed in consultation with clubs and in line with any decisions made by Government regarding the return of spectators to stadiums. Football is not the same without supporters at matches.

“The Premier League and our clubs remain committed to the safe return of fans as soon as possible. An updated broadcast list of matches will be announced later today.”

Fired by Zoom

Yesterday was a Shit one all round.

First off I got made redundent via Zoom. Covid has meant my customers have all delayed or stop their projects, so no sales. I cant blame my company nor can I for the way they had to informed me, but is was very weird.

Then we found out my sister had a precancerous tuma that neends an opp. Good news is they caught it early but still a worry.

Then to make the "3" my Uncle was taken to hospital with Fluid on his lungs, they cleared that out and found he had lung cancer.:(

So whilst I was feeling very sorry for myself after I got let go, mine is the smallest of concerns.

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and 24 hour bus lanes

I'm all for lower traffic levels and less pollution.

But this seems to be leading to more traffic jams, and more pollution. And as some environmental activists have pointed out in Lewisham and Lambeth this seems to be pushing the pollution to busy residential roads that already have more pollution and more poverty.

Not got any set thoughts on it, but it seems to me, anecdotally, and from what I've read on line that these measures might be making things worse.

There are certainly huge traffic jams at the moment in many areas.

Which kind of fan are you?

Which kind of fan are you?

Older and possibly wiser
This is a group who have supported the club for several decades. By and large you’re pretty amazed that we’ve spend this long in the top division having witnessed multiple seasons in the second tier and are just hoping that we win a cup competition at some stage of your lifetime and failing that just happy to be doing better than Brighton. You’re fairly level headed and generally accept that we’ll be pretty consistent, have the odd good win and the odd bad defeat but it probably won’t totally ruin your Saturday night whatever.

Glass half full
On your way to being part of the ‘Older’ group and much happier to be paying the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea rather than Brentford and Rotherham. Fairly satisfied to be holding our own in the top division but would like to see some more attacking and exciting football. You’re fairly consistent in your praise or condemnation of players and management.

Glass half empty
Probably of similar age to the ‘half full’ group but you’ve chosen to by and large forget how dire we’ve been at times and that having a player who’d played international football at any level was quite rare rather than being par for the course. You see your job as one of showering players and management with praise after a win and absolutely slaughtering the same people a game later when we lose.

The Premier League generation
This group are probably in their teens or early twenties. They’ve not really known supporting the club outside the top division and what is was like to be quite excited when you signed a striker on loan from Sunderland. Pandemic aside, you probably don’t actually go and watch the team that often but fully reserve the right, usually during a game, (why actually watch when you can be online posting to like-minded PLGs), to criticise players, manager, coach, Chairman, Director of Football, tactics, training methods, facilities, medical staff who can’t cure injured players with Messiah like speed and anyone else you can think of. You really can’t fathom why the club don’t spend at least 100 million in every transfer window, but fully reserve the right to slaughter a player, endorsed by yourself and bought for millions, if he doesn’t immediately perform like a world beater as that will be totally down to Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman. You will have no perception of the fact that the club has been close to going bust on a number of occasions.

The Next Generation
You will be young and despite all the odds and your mates at school supporting clubs that are several hundred miles away, that they’ll probably never visit, you’ve decided that Palace are the ones for you. You like being able to watch your local team play the best in the country and are generally pleased that they can be competitive and hold their own. You should be warned that you are in a honeymoon period and will soon become one of the above.

Suggestion: Lewis Cook

What do people think of Cook?

Good young Centre mid, can pass, box to box. Worth a punt?

Connection not secure - Security Settings

lundi 5 octobre 2020

Note sure where to post this really...

I went to watch the Aston Villa/Liverpool game on my PC on the NBC Sport Network site, which is legit as I'm a cable subscriber. After logging in with my cable provider account, the game would not play (black screen).

It looks like it was due to the "Connection not secure" padlock on. I use Firefox, but also tried Chrome and Edge... all 3 had the same "locked" condition.

I tried everything I could think of to allow access to this site in my security settings, but apparently never getting the right ones.

Any advice out there?

Should add I watched it just fine on my iPad, and also I've been watching games on my PC for years without an issue... apparently some upgrade has caused this.

FIFA 21

FIFA 21 is much improved when compared to FIFA 20.

I have been playing the EA Play 10 hour trial and it is the best FIFA game that I have played in years with very slick gameplay and much improved ball physics.
It is much easier to pull off slick passing moves and flicks and tricks and the whole flow of the game is better.

Great game which is released this Friday.

Striker for me Josh King

easyjet

If you have taken a voucher from Easyjet this year with a view to use it next week, be warned I have just looked at the flights for next year and they have hiked the prices massively. I booked to fly from Southend to Palma this August, we decided to take the voucher at £1300 roughly. Easyjet have now closed Southend, so we have to use Gatwick. The flights for the same time of year are now £3200. I really dont know what to do, they are taking the piss and know may people like me will be screwed as we cant now get a refund and will have to book something,

Discussion: TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY 2020

The window slams shut tonight at 11pm but October 16 is the deadline for all domestic deals between Premier League and EFL clubs only (both ways)

Discuss notable deals good and bad here

Suggestion: Jack Wilshere

dimanche 4 octobre 2020

I love the injury prone ones ;)

Anyway, sure I’ll get shot down for this suggestion but Jack Wilshere would be a perfect fit for us. Still says he has the hunger to play so wants to leave West Ham. He could play the Cabaye role. Pace and mobility not what it was but if he’s just sitting it shouldn’t matter too much. Knows Roy. Loan with compulsory purchase if he plays 25 games for us. We pay his wages when he plays, West Ham pay them when he doesn’t? If fit a massive upgrade on what we currently have.

Wolfie vs Worksop

Here you go boys. A thread of your very own so you can bore the shit out of eachother and not the rest of us.

Many thanks.

:D

What did we do in 1989-90 that we aren't doing now?

It could be argued that the players then were better or worse than those of today, but what lessons could we use from 1989-90 when we finished the season in third place?

FIRE TV integrated

So looking to get a tv in the bedroom but we have no aerial connection there so going down the route of wi-fi internet tv

Seems a waste to buy a tv with all the bits and bobs when we only really be using the internet side of it

Looked at a few monitors with the idea to plug a fire stick into but then thought ohhh no to many wires

And then stumbled across this To view the link you have to Register or Login

Seems pretty good anyone got one had one ?

Also any other tips on a way just to get the fire tv experience ?

FA Cup 2020/21

FA Cup Second Qualifying Round today.

Corinthian Casuals 2 Dulwich Hamlet 2

Almost a cup upset with Hamlet getting a late equaliser.

Kieron Cadogan opened the scoring for CC. Nathaniel Pinney was on the bench for them.

Hamet had Quade Taylor and Reise Allassani on the bench.

Away fans were not permitted but some may have been there as 'CC fans'...

Our inability to create goalscoring chances

On the whole we are a pretty solid team , yes we got turned over today but we can replace Sakho with Dann or Kelly or Cahill or Tomkins , we don’t often let many in and the midfield competes quite well but even Stevie Wonder can see our inability to create goalscoring opportunities , we are crying out for a Benrahma type player that can play just behind the strikers and create chances, maybe we will try Eze there ? , maybe we will bring someone in ? Who knows ?

The team is crying out for this type of player and has been for the past 2 seasons
Here’s hoping we bring someone in because we bloody well need to .

Player Ratings And Reviews: Chelsea (away)

Guaita 6 Nothing to do apart from their goals

Mitchell 5 Gave away pen.
Sakho 4 pen and goal given away
Kouyate 6 part of poor defence
Ward 5 poor on ball

Eze 6 no service
McArthur 6 worked ok
McCarthy 6 hard working
Townsend 5 quiet, or silent?

Zaha 5 no service.
Ayew 5 no better

Suggested Team and Formation For: Brighton 18/10 (selection dilemma)

This is not so much a suggested line up for the game because it’s far too early for that. But more of a discussion about the competition for places we’ll have after the international break. But worth putting the discussion under this thread title for when the game does come around.

There was a few poor performances out there against Chelsea, coupled with returning faces, we could see a very different line up when we return.

In defence, Tomkins, Cahill and PVA will hopefully be back and fit. If we sign Clyne, we could potentially see a whole new back 4. In midfield, Schlupp will be back, does he or Eze start? Batshuayi will be back as well.

If we have no new injuries and we sign 1 or 2 players. I think there’s going to be a lot of competition for places. It will be interesting to see the approach we take.

NEW MANAGER

Who should be the new manager - I guess the favourites will be Eddie Howe or Shaun Dyche ( although why he would want to come ) Also David Wagner former Huddersfield manager who is an excellent young manager is now available. Also Marco Silva may be in the running.Any of those 4 would be better than the stubborn old relic that currently has the job

Is it just me?

Now this is undoubtably a kneejerk reaction to a truly abject performance against Chelsea, but bear with me. Is it just me or is it really getting harder and harder to keep up any excitement for Palace any more?

I've lived on the other side of the world for approaching a decade now, during which time the passion has felt like its faded slightly and gradually, but always endured. But recently it's started to feel different. Maybe it's just the perfect storm, but the combination of factors at the moment has left me feeling more numb and disconnected to Palace than I have in my whole life.

Our whole game plan, whilst often effective, has become like a chore to watch. It really is anti-football. When we pull it off, it makes it seem bearable, but when we concede and inevitably have no plan B whatsoever, Jesus it's gut wrenching. I don't mind losing, it's par for the course as Palace fan, but the lack of any kind of real attacking or footballing intent is what gets me. In the odd game sure, but as the starting point against every single side?

This of course has been a fairly long standing issue, but it feels like the arrival or VAR and all that comes with it has really accelerated what feels like downward spiral in fans connection with the game. Nobody can properly celebrate a goal any more, everything is pulled back and examined in slow motion at snails pace under a microscope, sucking the emotion out of the game. Which is compounded when it feels like the professional game itself is drifting further and further away from what most of us know as actual football. Today seemed like the most extreme example I've felt to date, where every player (Palace included) just goes down so easily. Fouls are now given for minimal or no contact every other minute. Fouls that 99% of us would be baffled if they were awarded in game you actually play in. But now it happens in the Premier league and no opposition players protest, no commentators even bat an eyelid. It all just seems so disgustingly accepted that this is how football is played now. as somebody throws themselves to the ground and grabs the ball in the same motion. Popping back to their feet to take the freekick as nobody anywhere on screen disagrees, as if thats how the game is meant to be played?

Then of course the final cherry on top. No fans. This all seemed pretty horrific last season too. But with hindsight, I suppose at least having fans in the stands retained enough compassion to mask the worse of it. Now getting up to watch us play with no little to no attacking intent, whilst never keeping the ball, as 22 players throw themselves to the ground, with VAR lurking around every corner to stiffle any remaining spontaneity, in empty silent stadiums. Just not sure I can be bothered much longer.

As I said at the start, undoubtably a kneejerk reaction, I know. But today really did feel like the straw with broke the camels back. Just me?

Mitchell vs PVA

I'm a massive fan of TM and was even one of the few who thought he was ready when we started the season.

He is for me top quality.

Once PVA is fit there is a real question mark. So who would you start?

I am actually going to vote for Patrick as I think with his experience and more importantly his attacking ability/eye for goal he is too important to leave out.

Suggestion: Josh king

Noticed he’s not playing for Bournemouth due to a ‘migraine’ looks like he’s away it would be nice if we even looked in his direction alas for that to happen I feel benteke would have to go which I don’t think he’s going to , pipe dream stuff I guess

Sainsbury’s

Now, I will admit that I didn’t grow up in the most diverse area so may be just not be understanding how outwardly racist some parts of the country are but I did do A-Level history and spent a year learning about the civil rights movement and remember being shocked that segregation was a thing so recently. Why are Sainsbury’s reintroducing this policy?

Does the safe space thing not come across as condescending? It’s like they are treating their own employees like they have some sort of handicap so need looking after? It’s completely the wrong way round.
