Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Things To Do On An Autumn Weekend In and Around Bournemouth?

Facing "use it or lose it" holiday ultimatum from work, I have booked a long weekend in the Sandbanks area of Bournemouth.

Apart from coastal walks, which I do enjoy, does anyone have any recommendations of things to see/do in the area?

Thanks in advance!

Your first choice centre back pairing?

Come on then, let’s have this out. We all know last season Mama and Tomkins were our best first choice pairing but with the emergence and impact that Gary Cahill has had its put a good spanner in the works. That said, Dann was probably our best defender since he joined 5 years ago before his injury and regularly came up trumps with important goals, which let’s face it, bar maybe JT, the others have lacked. Kelly is the ultimate pro, never causes a problem or moans and comes in when required and does a bloody good job time and again.

So, who’s your first choice pairing given all are fit (and let’s say match fit)?

Name your combo?

Sakho - Tomkins
Sakho - Cahill
Sakho - Dann
Sakho - Kelly
Tomkins - Cahill
Tomkins - Dann
Tomkins - Kelly
Cahill - Kelly
Cahill - Dann
Dann - Kelly.

Next 6 games

West Ham (a)
Man City (h)
Arsenal (a)
Leicester (h)
Chelsea (a)
Liverpool (h)

How many points from these games?

I'll go with 5, and I would be fairly happy with that!

Advertising hoarding in block A main stand

My season ticket is in block A main stand, right in the corner. I couldn't get to yesterday's game but my mate, who sits in front of me has said that a big banner, advertising Stanley in bright yellow has been erected on the scaffolding in the corner where the tv camera is. This is now blocking the corner flag and a chunk of the pitch in front of the penalty area.
He complained to a steward who went and got advice. He came back and said it was to stay for the season as its been paid for. He was told if he's not happy, to contact the box office on monday and they will offer him a new seat.
I'm curious to see what the good old bbs thinks of this. I won't know how this affects me till the manchester city game. I'm not looking to slag the club but think its poor management not to take the view into consideration, considering its already restricted with stantions and pillars.
Also, as an after thought, is Stanley not actually an advertisement for knives, which if it is, should not be aimed at kids, being its at the front of the family section.

Lyon vs Nantes was moved due to....

Lyon vs Nantes was moved to 13:30 yesterday so it could be broadcast in China, so the Lyon ultras did a tifo of the Tibetan flag and flew Free Tibet banners.

Suggested Team and Formation For: West Ham (away)

-----------------------Guaita----------------------------
Ward--------Kelly--------------Cahill--------------PVA
-----McArthur-------Kouyate----------Schlupp*------
Townsend-----------Ayew---------------------Zaha

*I would have McCarthy, Camarasa or Meyer instead but we all know Hodgson's favourite will play. So expect low intensity in centre mid and about 11 passes. We will lose as a result.

Kelly deserves to keep his place and Townsend deserves to start.

Suggestion: Kane Vincent - Young

We should be all over this guy.
Tearing up League 1 from right back.
Quick skilful and just a kid. Ipswich are lucky to have him.

He many did you get right?

Well?

Over-reaction on the BBS

samedi 28 septembre 2019

Having witnessed the dreadful performance at Spurs it felt like an accumulation of the poor summer transfer window coupled with Wilf's wanting out. It felt at the time we were on the road to nowhere and it was the end of the world, yet here we are with another win and looking pretty good.

So the question really is are we maybe all a bit too quick to judge things on here based on one or two performances? Have to confess I think I'm in that boat.

San Siro to be replaced by new stadium

Only just heard about this. Doubtless the new ground will be impressive, but I will be very sad if this goes ahead as the San Siro is easily the best ground I have been to ...

Next 6 Games

So with the next 6 games, we are playing teams in the top 8.

West Ham
Man City
Arsenal
Leicester City
Chelsea
Liverpool

How many points do we think we can get to add to our current start? I'm looking at maybe 5 or 6. 1 win + 2/3 draws.

Team of the Eighties - BT Sport

Did I see an advert on the screen for the "Team of the Eighties" documentary on BT Sport on 26th October about 8pm?

Will be great to relive that period, both exciting and frustrating when we crashed and burned. Used to get great gates in that era and before.

Cyber propaganda

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Over the past three years, we have monitored the global organization of social media manipulation by governments and political parties. Our 2019 report analyses the trends of computational propaganda and the evolving tools, capacities, strategies, and resources.

1.Evidence of organized social media manipulation campaigns which have taken place in 70 countries, up from 48 countries in 2018 and 28 countries in 2017. In each country, there is at least one political party or government agency using social media to shape public attitudes domestically.

2.Social media has become co-opted by many authoritarian regimes. In 26 countries, computational propaganda is being used as a tool of information control in three distinct ways: to suppress fundamental human rights, discredit political opponents, and drown out dissenting opinions.

3.A handful of sophisticated state actors use computational propaganda for foreign influence operations. Facebook and Twitter attributed foreign influence operations to seven countries (China, India, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela) who have used these platforms to influence global audiences.

4.China has become a major player in the global disinformation order. Until the 2019 protests in Hong Kong, most evidence of Chinese computational propaganda occurred on domestic platforms such as Weibo, WeChat, and QQ. But China’s new-found interest in aggressively using Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube should raise concerns for democracies

5.Despite there being more social networking platforms than ever, Facebook remains the platform of choice for social media manipulation. In 56 countries, we found evidence of formally organized computational propaganda campaigns on Facebook.

Bringing Food Into The Ground

Mum has been going to Palace for years, we've always brought our own food, normally from the sandwich shop next to the South Norwood Clock Tower in the form of a sandwich as we find the food in the ground unhealthy (pies, burgers et al, not a good idea for people with a family history of heart problems). Today, she was stopped and the stewards tried to take the food away, which was in her bag.

Is this a policy change at Palace, and if so, why? What's the point in the Foundation collaborating with the Obesity charity Foodtalk to help tackle junk foods if you try and force junk foods on fans?

I'm aware this is policy at many PL grounds now and may be for a while, and they're in their rights to. It doesn't make it right in my view. Even more so because it's my mother in Main stand Block J...

Ayew will score a hattrick today

Derby County Players in hot water (allegedly)

Surprised no one has mentioned this (unless I've missed it)

Serious issues ahead for several key first team players following an incident involving 2 cars and talk of being way over the DD limit

Keogh suffers serious injury in the RTA and out for the season

I think the players involved will be sacked

Coalition government to stop new deal

Will it happen? Good idea?

Given it will literally just be to stop no deal and then call an election, and will do little else I can’t see why the Lib Dems care so much if Corbyn is the leader of it. No leader will be able to do anything that wasn’t strictly agreed as they would be voted down immediately.

The leader of the opposition is clearly going to want to be the caretaker prime minister, and given the SNP are now on board, surely the Lib Dems, if they really care about stopping no deal, should agree to it.

However I’m not sure what effect it will all have on a general election and the result of that election.

Rollerblading

mercredi 25 septembre 2019

So recently I've been thinking about taking up rollerblading (in-line skating for you pros) as a hobby after I've partially fallen out of love with cycling. I've seen a few people in the park having a go and I think it could be a good laugh.

Are there any BBS'ers out there that are in to it and and can give me some advice? I've got no idea about skates or pads or anything so a tip or two would be great!

FIFA reveals plans to cap agents' commissions and player loans

Absolutely massive if it happens, I know I am far from the only person who felt agents were destroying football

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Quote:

FIFA has announced plans to reform the transfer system, including limiting agents' commissions and the number of players clubs can send on loan.

FIFA's Football Stakeholders Committee, which was commissioned by world football's governing body, will submit its recommendations to the FIFA Council ahead of its next meeting on October 24.

The cap on agents' fees would see selling clubs limited to paying agents 10 per cent of the fee they receive for selling a player.

In addition, players' agents would be able to receive up to three per cent of the remuneration a player receives from a transfer.

Finally, buying clubs in a transfer will be prevented from paying agents acting on their behalf more than three per cent of the remuneration the player received from the deal.

The committee will also advise FIFA to prevent agents representing multiple parties in a transfer in a bid to prevent conflicts of interest.

They also want to see the reintroduction of a mandatory licensing system for agents, as well as the establishment of a resolution system to solve disputes between agents, players and clubs.

FIFA is in the process of creating the FIFA Clearing House, which would oversee the payment of all agents' fees.

The recommended limit on loans would see clubs limited to eight international loans in or out of the club from the 2020/21 season, which would drop to six two years later.

Furthermore, only three players would be able to move between the same two clubs in a single season.

The committee says its cap on loans would prevent clubs from hoarding players while ensuring a player's development is prioritised over commercial gain.

Palace v B*******

A quick question about our game against the weed this year. Does anyone know when the TV fixtures are announced for mid December. They seem to be up until the start of December at the moment and the only information I can find suggests that it would be announced next month which seems a bit late to me.

I have an issue of trying to book a trip for my lad to see Father Christmas and only have two free days in December. I don't mind missing the occasional game but this is not one of them!!!

Youth Cultures

Having watched Quadrophenia again on SKY Arts this week celebrating 40 years since it's release what has happened to youth culture? In the 70's and going into the 80's we had Skinheads, Mods, Punks, Goths, New Romantics, Soulboys ect now there are hardly any. There are a few of the above around but nowhere near the numbers around back then. I was a Skinhead very briefly around the age of 12 then got into the Mod scene at 16, had the scooter, went on scooter runs to the coast and went to many Mod clubs. Favourite one was called The Bush by Shepherds Bush Green, was always a battle trying to get home with the locals wanting to attack you for some reason and other youths wanting a fight usually Casuals and Skinheads . One particularly scary moment was being chased up the railway tracks one night in Margate by Skinheads armed with baseball bats. Used to go to Carnaby Street most Saturdays to meet up with friends for a drink and shop for clothes and records and again groups of Skinheads and Casuals would often come down and chaos would ensue. Great times though the music, girls and the people. Made friends through the movement that will remain friends for life, there was a real sense of togetherness and apart of me will always be Mod even though I'm now in my 50's.
Were any members part of any scene and any good memories to be shared?

Power of the BBS Please help

Some of you will be aware that our council is trying to impose a redevelopment of a round about in Newport to "improve" traffic flows. We have extra traffic due to their failure on the floating bridge that never works so people go the long way round. Even if this was the best traffic flow in the world, its not its crap, you will whizz across and travel 100yards before hitting the queue down the road for the REAL problem which is Coppins bridge. The trouble is the council has been awarded money by gvt that "HAS TO BE SPENT" We would prefer to give it back so someone else could use it or use it for what we need not what they are imposing.

SO 30 seconds of your time would be really appreciated, as we have one last chance on wednesday to stop this idiotic scheme. Thanks

Happy Birthday Bruce

Bernando Silva upsets Kick It Out (Mendy Tweet)

Kick it out have released a statement condemning a tweet the Man City player sent to his team mate in which he compares an image from a sweet character.

They say it's racist and have reported it to the FA.

Same again because no-one deserves to be dropped after a much improved performance in the 2nd half and a massive improvement from the Spurs game. But hopefully the substitutes will start to play a bigger part and come on earlier if needed.

Hodgson's management of Benteke

As the title says, Roys management of Benteke has been terrible. His confidence is shot, there is still a very good player in there, he will not regain his form by 20 minute camos. Let's face it he is the best striker at the club(sure and sick note wickham don't set the bar high) .He needs an extended run of gamese plays at least 70 minutes of football of any chance of him regaining his form.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Wolves

We were very lucky not to be behind at Half Time today lack of movement and tempo to our play.

2nd half better 1st 5 minutes we came out all guns blazing but that didn't last for long.

We didn't learn from our last minute escape against Villa poor game management at the end. If only we had taken one of the 2 chances to kill it off.

Benteke desperate again just seems to be playing for himself instead of the team.

We’d be 5th

With a couple of favourable games coming up, if only we’d held on.

Is it time to go 3 at the back at Selhurst?

Not to be more solid at the back but to give our team greater balance with the players currently available.
We are without doubt the most predictable midfield in the PL reasonably easy to defend against for our opponents and at the same time lacking in creativity for our front players
Given that Roy will always flood the midfield to shield a defense lacking any pace can we play a different system at home to address some of those issues
Ie Cahill Sahko Tomkins back 3 width from PVA and Townsend
Midfield shield from Kouyate and either or LM JM orJM
Meyer or VC as the link Zaha free role behind either CB CW or playing off Ayew

Abolishing OFSTED

Looks like this is going to be Labour policy. I have to say it's a bit of a blunt instrument but I would not be in favour of its abolition. In the absence of anything else, it's a handy tool for parents.

Maybe it could be refocused a bit and give better scores to schools that improve the less able and less affluent pupils. I know when my kids were at school they gave these "value added" scores. You could at least get an idea of how the school was doing.

As the title says, there is an interview with Mat Jansen coming up. So much talent. Think it starts at 12:30 ish on sky soccer Saturday.

does anyone know what time the players arrive at the ground so my son can get photos/autographs?

Liverpool/Manchester City "hackgate".

Interesting article in the Times today about Liverpool hacking into ManCity's scouting and strategy files. Apparently they were caught 'red-handed', and quietly agreed to pay a million Sterling in compensation. Neither the FA nor the Prem (let alone UEFA or FIFA), was "involved" (or informed ?)

Should Palace start encrypting all confidential information ?

These scum clubs seem now to be above the law and sports regulation.
According to Matt Dickenson, this has the potential to become the biggest sporting scandal yet - are we to believe that all the "super-clubs" now run extensive spying and hacking operations ?

Where is the football capital of England?

vendredi 20 septembre 2019

Interesting question posed by sky sports on twitter. 3 options given were London, Manchester and Liverpool, but many people suggesting Sheffield.

London or Manchester for me. Highest number of teams and the national stadium vs most trophies in the past 30-40 years. Could understand shouts for Sheffield, it’s definitely the home and motherland of English football, but ‘capital’ just implies modern relevancy to me, which the Sheffield clubs don’t have.

Best Time to Make a Substitution

mercredi 18 septembre 2019

To view the link you have to Register or Login - in a game, there may be other factors...
Generally, I am loath to criticise Roy, whom I believe is doing an excellent job, but the one area where I would like him to be more active is in using subs earlier.

Budgie

There is a brilliant article about John Burridge on CPFC.CO.UK
Not our best ever keeper but the best entertainer between the sticks.

Match Updates: Sep 20/21/22

Started the thread early as I just noticed today something that peaked my interest; Sunday’s four Premier League fixtures are all being played in London.

14:00
Palace v Wolves
West Ham v Man U

16:30
Arsenal v Aston Villa
Chelsea v Liverpool

Now I might still be living in the 80’s, but can’t help but notice that Man U, Liverpool, Wolves and Villa fans will all be travelling down together and descending on London at the same time, with Chelsea and West Ham thrown into the home mix.

Is this an administrative oversight or is there a retro reunion party for football firms happening this weekend?

Press scum

No hyperbole in the title.

It’s almost like the Leverson inquiry didn’t happen.

This week we’ve seen the scummy Sun headline the horrific and tragic murders in Ben Stoke’s family’s history, and it seems Gareth Thomas was blackmailed by a journalist and had to reveal that he had HIV. The scumbags actually told his parents before he could discuss it with them properly.

Firstly, why people continue to buy The Sun God only knows, and secondly, shouldn’t Gareth Thomas release the name/s of the blackmailers so the public can intrude on their private lives?

Can’t believe people would stoop that low and what’s more, allowed to get away with it.

His behaviour is disgusting. I get being angry at an inanimate object but to kick a person is vile behaviour. The manager should stop training until he apologised, I wonder how it was handled, and whether is was brushed off because he is an important baby with a big ego.

Crystal Ball: Eagles V Wolves

After complete surrender last Saturday inside 15 minutes we now take on Wolves at Selhurst on Sunday.
Predictions please, score, scorers and attendance.

Sakho - Still undecided

It isn't just the spurs match but that highlighted something that I have noticed. Generally at least once a match he makes an error so obvious so outstandingly bad that you can only gasp. The rest of the time he is pretty good. however although he gets away with the error a lot of the time - the gift to the opposition forward is blasted over or someone else slides in with a last minute tackle there are significant numbers of occasions where he does not and the other side get an easy goal.

It is why he does not play for a top six team and also why, despite the tendency of people on here to think he is wonderful, he is still with us and there have been precious few rumours that he is going anywhere else.

I'm not saying he is rubbish I am just saying I don't think he is the savior a lot of people seem to think.

PES 2020 - Post your Master League Stories

lundi 16 septembre 2019

Not sure how this thread will go but back when I used to post on PES forums I used to enjoy posting and reading about other people's Master Leagues as well as my own.

At the moment I am only playing a temporary file as I intend to wait for the full option file to be finished and Konami to put Italian Serie B in from DLC so I can start an Italian career which has been my mainstay for years (bar PES 2019 which didn't have Serie B!).

So at the moment I have started as US Orléans in the French Ligue 2. I know absolutely feck all about them, and the only player I recognise in their squad is former Liverpool and Sunderland player Anthony Le Tallec. :moo: I did have a bit of a divvy moment earlier, having purposely turned off transfers in the first window of the game I then spent 5 minutes trying to work out why I couldn't sign anyone. :wallbash: DUUUUUUUR!!!

So yes I am stuck with the original squad for the first 4 months anyway. :D I don't know much about the League and I chose Orléans because of their rather snazzy Wasp like Home kit. I also started on Pro level as I haven't played PES in months so wanted to get a feel for the game first. First game I played a team called Chambly, a team I have literally never heard of and I guess are newly promoted. Spent most of the game all over them without creating any clear cut chances, then with 15 minutes to go disaster struck, a fine save from my keeper Vachoux saw the ball break loose and trying to beat the striker to the ball I suceeded only in nudging the ball past my sprawling goalkeeper and despite my efforts couldn't get to the ball before it crossed the line, and a humiliating opening day defeat 0-1.

Second game was Coupe de Ligue against Le Havre, I switched from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 and it was an even first half but after they stole in front the flood gates opened and I found myself 3-0 down. A late consolation from Perrin caused a bit of a fight back where we had Le Havre penned back but we couldn't get the ball in the net again and out of the Cup in Round 1.

Final game I have played so far was a 0-2 Win away at Grenoble, a game we dominated to be honest. A balls up by the CPU defence gifted Perrin the ball and he slotted past the keeper for his second goal in two games. The second goal came after the hour, a cross whipped in from the right which Grenoble failed to clear and the big man Scheidler up top turned on the ball and dunked it past the keeper from 6 yards out.

Really enjoying the game so far, I think soon enough I may have to up the difficulty as I can see me out growing Professional soon enough.

Dishonored PS3

Old game...

but what a cracking classic. Anyone else play this back in the day?

Keeping a squad happy

Something that weighs on my mind as we get better players in that will likely fall outside of the matchday XI is how do you keep them happy?

I shouldn't expect we make promises when signing players that they will always start but surely the likes of Camarasa, Meyer and possibly McCarthy will not hang around for too long without match minutes.

We could have worse problems of course but it's valid. Every game Meyer doesn't get time on the pitch I feel his time with us is getting more and more short-lived. The same with Camarasa.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Wolves

Tough one, after such a poor performance.

Guaita
Ward - Cahill - Sakho - van Aanholt
Milivojevic - Kouyate
Zaha - Camarasa - Schlupp
Ayew

Hennessey, Tomkins, Riedewald, McCarthy, Meyer, Townsend, Benteke

Assuming McCarthur and Kelly are still out. If they are both back, then bring in McCarthur for Kouyate and then bring in Kelly for Riedewald.

There’s also an argument for either Cahill or Tomkins.

Lack of goals: Reasons?

What is the most significant single reason for our appalling lack of goals?
Is it primarily a lack of quality strikers or is it more as a result of our “safety first, flood the midfield with ball winners playing style”

Rugby World Cup 2019

Didn't see a thread and its just a few days till KO. Gotta admit I enjoy the odd game but rugby has never really gripped me so if egg chasing fans want to have their own chatter about the games in another thread that's cool I just thought I'd give a shout out to any Palace travelling out here who might have questions about what to do in the land of one of the runners up in WW2, been living here donkeys years, been everywhere and learnt the language (at a snail like pace) so can probably sort your queries out. Tickets too costly for me but will be watching the games in my nearest fanzone area (Kinko Park, Yokohama) if anyone is passing by.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Spurs v Palace

Poll to follow.

Sam Gyimah

samedi 14 septembre 2019

What a dishonest man, East Surrey has voted a conservative candidate in since 1918 regardless of who it is, they have always collected at least 50% of the vote and always had a majority of at least 11k and always more than the total vote cast for their nearest rival. The constituents have made it very clear that they want a conservative MP.

Sam Gyimah crossing the floor shows a huge disrespect for the people who voted for him, I don’t think that there is clearer example of an MP not representing the people that give him his livelihood and trust him to represent their views in Parliament.

He should stand down if he is not happy with the government and then see how well he does as a Lib Dem candidate in East Surrey.

One month to go before this. Any other BBS'ers taking part?

Second time round for me. As someone who isn't massively into fitness, I had reservations about signing up at first, but I can happily say that it was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. Really brought home that a lot of things that wind me up about Palace don't actually really matter that much.

I'd encourage anyone who isn't sure whether to take part of not to take the plunge because you'll get a lot out of it (not just blisters and a limp). They're only at 10% of their £45,000 total at present so there's still a lot of work to do.

Post Brexit transfer market

Forgive me if there is a thread discussing this somewhere already

I know Parish in the past has spoken about how Brexit would mean we could look at players outside of Europe as more realistic options like South American players being easier to get work permits for, do we know if the club has been scouting much outside of Europe in preparation for the potential of this happening?

If the 31st October does mean we come out of Europe I wonder how this will change the transfer market even as close as the January window?

Be interesting if anyone had any media reports on how post Brexit football might look in the UK as I know Parish has spoken quite optimistically about it.

Notice for MacBook Pro users

This was sent out by our IT department today

Dear ,
As some of you may be aware, a majority of airlines have begun to ban travelers from boarding airplanes in possession of a 15” Mac Book Pro laptop sold between September 2015 and February 2017.
Apple has notified users that the battery in those affected laptops may overheat, causing potential swelling and/or igniting. As you may remember, this is similar to the Samsung Note ban a year or so ago for similar battery overheating issues.
The IT department at has verified all of the serial numbers for laptops purchased through IT, and there is no verified assets that are on the recall list. That being said, some travelers may have purchased Mac Books through a local vendor or dealer, and IT may not have all of the information available to verify if your particular Mac Book Pro is on the recall list.
You will find a link to the online verification tool that will allow you to verify if your particular model is part of the recall list.
We encourage all travelers to verify if their Mac Book Pro is part of the list. You can do so by entering in your serial number.

Phone scams Anyone else getting these calls from a bogus Bt dept ?

6 times in the last 2 weeks we have had a call from a number claiming to be from BT announcing our internet will be cut off due to the isp being hacked . Starts off as an automated call with options to press various numbers .. Pressing a number then takes you to some indian person who you litterally cant understand . The second time this happened i realised what was happening and that i was being scammed, they wanted me to turn on my pc which rang alarm bells immediately . So i kept them on the phone for ages before outing them and they hung up . Trouble is the wankers keep calling from different numbers so the call block is useless . Anyone else got experience of this and what did you do to stop it ?

England v Kosovo 10/9/19 (live on ITV)

Going to the game tonight (it's at St Mary's so not far to travel). Wrongly assumed when I booked the tickets months ago, that this would be some sort of 7-0 type qualifier.

Looking at Kosovo (sitting second in the group with 2 wins and 2 draws) they are unbeaten in 15, so must be doing something right.

Just seen the crazy Kosovo manager on tv. Complete nutter! Makes Nigel Pearson look normal!

Property Lease

lundi 9 septembre 2019

About 11 years ago now i bought a shared ownership property on the proviso it was a 125year lease which was stated on the sales receipt when i put down a holding fee and also on a draft lease. Now looking at my last lease i signed it has been changed to 99 years.

I know people will say i should have noticed but the rewritten lease was not picked up by my solicitor or by the housing association. This has only come to light as a neighbour is selling hers and the housing association has given her back the extra 25 years on the lease.

Anyone know who i should approach first, solicitor or housing association in regards to this.Would the solicitor charge me for looking into this? Funny thing is this solicitor was a mad Palace fan who specialises in shared ownership but i took my eye off the ball on this one.

Worcester Park fire

I am sure many on here if not everyone has seen the news about the huge fire at a block of flats in Worcester Park this morning, which was literally 200 yards from where I live, and a friend of mine, and his girlfriend have lost everything even including their car. Very sad indeed but thankfully no one was killed.

Sadly though it appears there may have been some very serious flaws in the building of the flats and subsequently possibly others in The Hamptons, potentially even the ones we live in, I think there could be quite a big deal made about this over the coming weeks, especially given the circumstance of Grenfell in the not so distant past.

Best streaming dongle - bang for buck

Whilst trying to get my 8 year old LG TV (pre-WebOS) to accept casting from my Galaxy Tab A I started quitting into looking at a wired connection (it has casted pictures in the past, I know the bastard can do it), and it was then I entered the world of dongle TV. The solution to bring that TV forward a decade may be to bypass its crappy system and use an airplay type casting/mirroring dongle, and if I do that I may as well get a TV one which accepts a cast from said Galaxy Tab A. So I'm interested in these thingies.

Hope that makes sense. I see that Roku are up there, and there's the classic firestick and i'm sure there are others.

I don't have much need for yet more telly tbh, but thought I'd explore it.

Can you get sports donkey and the likes for streaming Palace or is that a Kodi platform thing only?

I had a bad experience with a streaming box in the past, I bought a premium android box by Minix and after using it briefly and finding that the streaming was crappy and awkward and flaky I turned it off. When I revisited it the thing simply wouldn't even turn on. Total shithouse waste of money, as bad as a Brighton record signing.

4 Wheel Drive Tyre Question

BBS'ers,

I have a 4 wheel drive car and the front two tyres are approaching the legal limit but the back have a few mm left.

The lady at the dealership said I have to replace all the tyres at the same time because it can damage the diff by having different treads as it will work too hard or some other rubbish.

This sounds like complete bollox to me...any thoughts? I was thinking to maybe just swap the front and back over for a while to even out.

Film Noirs/Neo Noirs

dimanche 8 septembre 2019

Starting with this classic -a mixture of noir and high school drama - great hard boiled dialogue & camerawork and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's breakthrough film.

Property legal letter- am I being screwed?

Ok, it's not often I turn to advice from the BBS, but on occasion, when called upon, you fellow palace fans have really helped me - successfully I may add! Anyway, my current situation is this - sorry this may be boring for many lol, but bear with me, I will endeavour to keep short as poss! -82 flats in my block in Sutton have been charged £500-£1,000 for boiler fault charges we don't believe we should pay. A lady from flat has been in contact with a solicitor, this much we believe to be true, tho she is now charging £1,500 (£60 per flat for letter, only 31 flats are in whats app group ) disputing this charge, but the letter looks unprofessiional, and quite frankly, I could have written better - basic errors all over the place. I thought solicitors would be meticulous - should I, and other flats, pay the £60?

Dougie a hit as a training provider

Can remember this being set up by Dougie but thought it had gone.

A provider co-founded by former Crystal Palace football striker Dougie Freedman has been rated ‘outstanding’ in some areas by Ofsted.

Freedman’s Focus Fitness UK received a grade two overall in its first report from the watchdog, which rated the independent provider ‘outstanding’ for personal development and outcomes for its 55 learners. Ofsted said senior leaders have a “strong purpose and high expectations for their health and fitness training provision” and almost all learners achieve their qualifications and most gain employment. Tutors were praised for using their “extensive” industry experience in their practical teaching. Co-founder Gavin Heeroo thanked all of their “hard-working staff” for their “professionalism and commitment to ensure our stable and continued growth in the sector”.

He set up the provider nearly 10 years ago with Freedman, who is now the sporting director at Crystal Palace and had spells as a player at Queens Park Rangers, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Southend United, plus two caps for the Scottish national team

Ryan Inniss wants to be Suarez (but without the skill)

vendredi 6 septembre 2019

Seems like our Ryan Inniss has been (allegedly) intentionally biting players. If thats proven we should cancel his contract straight away as he is useless anyway. Don't need that at Palace

Have we now beat everyone in the prem?

After beating United (finally) i was wondering if there were any bogey teams we have played since going up that we are yet to beat in recent history? Perhaps even a team thats been relegated in the last couple of years that we couldnt secure a win against in our shared time in the prem

Croydon Spaceport

I bet there's one or two of you on here old enough to remember the old Croydon Spaceport, where South Norwood Country Park is now. It's a bit of an obsession of mine, and I've written this pamphlet about it

You can get hold of print or PDF copies via To view the link you have to Register or Login. If you go down a bit, there's also a nice A4 print of the NLA Tower (home of the Croydon space programme for a couple of years) and a T-shirt pre-order campaign; if there's enough orders by the end of the month, they'll get produced

I know this is a bit cheeky, but I think there are people on here who would get a kick out of the 'zine. Watch the skies!

Health checks private / NHS

A friend of mine in Norway has annual checks. He just had an increased marker for prostate cancer and he was booked in within days for a full MRI and also booked in for a biopsy that would then be cancelled if not required. What an amazing service, all provided by the state! It does of course save money for the health service by catching cancer (and presumably other illnesses too) early.

What are the options to try to replicate this in the UK? I know there are various firms who offer annual checks. Any recommendations? If your tests show concerns do the NHS then act on the concerns?

Under 23 games

Anyone know what the deal is with under 23 games that are played at the training ground, are fans allowed in to watch them or not?

Fixture Information: West Ham - Boxing Day

So West Ham's match against Liverpool on 21st December has been postponed due to Liverpool's involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup meaning after there match on 14th December they wont play again until against us on the 26th.

Does this not give them an unfair advantage given the rest time between the matches and us having a long away fixture on the 21st?

Or is it just literally a tough luck and deal with it episode!

Can you block council plans?

We have a situation here on the IOW where the council has been offered some Gvnt money and have decided to "improve" a round about that doesn't need improving or at best will move a queue 30 feet. For this there is going to be 18 months of disruption and when its completed is, in my an lots of others opinion going to make things worse. There are many other projects/bottle necks that could do with some investment but for some reason our council, against what everyone is saying, is plunging on regardless. Any one know what steps can be taken to force the council to rethink?

Discussion: Looking forward to January

Using your time travelling specs who do you think we’ll sign in January?

apparently we’ve been scouting Jesus Corona and I still fancy (not in a creepy old person way) Jarrod Bowen and Alfredo Morelos which leaves me short a left back unless Tyrick Mitchell can get fit. 50m ought to do it

Our record versus the top 6 since Promotion

As we all know beating United the other week was extra special because they were the last top 6 team for us to beat since promotion. Now that we have that monkey off our back it's time to go for the next record. Beat them all both Home AND Away.

We have a very poor record against Spurs and beating them next game would mean we just have to beat United at home to complete the set. So please Palace, let's win that one and send Poch into a proper meltdown as they see 4th place slip even further away. :D

Anyway here's a list of all our fantastic results over the last 6 seasons and this one so far. In ascending order of top team until we finish at SIXTH placed top team :moo:

Crystal Palace 2 Manchester City 1 (6th April 2015)
Manchester City 2 Crystal Palace 3 (22nd December 2018)

Crystal Palace 3 Liverpool** 1 (23rd November 2014)
Liverpool 1 - Crystal Palace 3 (16th May 2015)

Crystal Palace 1 Chelsea* 0 (29th March 2014)
Chelsea 1 Crystal Palace 2 (29th August 2015)

Crystal Palace 2 Tottenham 1 (10th January 2015)

Crystal Palace 3 Arsenal 0 (10th April 2017)
Arsenal 2 Crystal Palace 3 (21st April 2019)

Manchester United 1 Crystal Palace 2 (24th August 2019)

*Went on to beat twice more home and away in 2017 (both games 2-1 to Palace).
**Went on to beat twice more in away games in 2016 and 2017. (Both games finishing 2-1 to the Palace).

Guest posts on website - advice

A friend who owns an SME business, keeps getting 3-4 emails a day asking about making a guest post on their website. The emails generally consist of the following:

Example:
"I understand that you would be the person to talk to regarding getting a potential guest post on your blog. Would you mind letting me know the different options available?".

Another example:
"I’m a new reader of your site and I went through some of the blogs posted and I think they are fantastic!
I’m writing to you because I’d love to contribute a guest/sponsor post to your domain.
I’ve been brainstorming some topics that I think your readers would get a ton of value from, so if you are interested, let me know and I`ll send some over to you".

I'm not sure if its relevant, but 90% of the emails that make contact are from a Gmail email address (not URL/business domain address)
What would they benefit from this? Is this just a way for the individual to promote their product from a company that ranks well in a particular sector? Are there any benefits to a business owner using a guest post.

thanks in advance

Away fans In Arthur Wait

After yet another incident on Saturday with Villa fans trying to gain access to the pitch area causing hassle and risk for our stewards , why not "net off" the first 3 /4 rows of the away section? It's been an increasing problem with away fans entering the pitch area and always has the problem with the away fans practically breathing down the linesman neck on that side, possibly influencing their decisions sand costing us points. Not sure if we get the revenue on away fans tickets , but say it was 200 seats, this would only mean a revenue loss of £6k a game. Sooner or later we are going to get a hefty fine for failure to control the crowd, and if it ever costs us a point or two the cost will be a far deal greater.

Rise of the Nazis

Great documentary started last night on the BBC,

two cheers for AWB's call up

lundi 2 septembre 2019

Pleased as I am that AWB has made the England squad I am feeliling just a bit miffed. More than ever it seems that a good player has to leave Palace to get his chance. What hopes have we got of keeping our best players and not having to put up with the bullshit we have to every transfer window. Hodgson did the same when England manager and now Southgate seems keen to stick the boot in. AWB gets 4 games for the wankers ,and despite them being bang ordinary'.. bingo! he's in like someones just discovered him:wallbash:

Route map advice

Bit of an odd one. Is there an app/site that will give the quickest route from one location to another, where part of the journey is by car and the rest train?

Basically, on Thursday, I've got to go from RAF Brize Norton in Oxford to Leicester Square. Time is tight and I don't want to drive into London, so want to drive part way and then get a train the rest.

I can try and plan it in a couple of stages if I manually plug in the detail where I could potentially change, but no idea if that's the quickest and most optimal.

Ideas so far are to go to Gerards Cross or Watford, but any help would be appreciated.

House Renovation Advice

I'm strongly considering buying a house, which would be in need of a serious amount of work. I have zero acumen in house renovation, so wondered if there were any experts on the BBS? I don't know where to start really.

From what I can see there are no structural issues, but the property needs significant modernisation including a new bathroom, new kitchen, all new windows, new patio doors, and likely some electrical work doing. And I would likely want to knock an internal wall down.

How do I go about finding out if there are structural issues with the property- given I don't know any builders? What would the likely cost be for the above work? Has anybody taken on a project like this and have any advice (or perhaps contacts)? Lastly, would this be a terrible, stressful idea?

Who is the biggest c@nt on the BBS

Over a few beers I started thinking, over my time on the BBS I have encountered some right C-units on here....so I have compiled a top 6 and am asking the good ship BBS to decide....which poster is the biggest c*nt on here?

I didn't even know Jach had returned from his loan in Moldova but he has now gone on loan to RKS Rakow who play in the Polish top flight.

Elf trophy; no palace u21 entry?

Was wondering why Palace hadn’t entered a side in the efl trophy when the likes of Norwich, Brighton Southampton and West Ham have. Anyone know? Out of principle or a lack of players maybe?

(Sorry if there is a thread on this ; I did look but couldn’t find one)

Knife Crime

Not sure if there is a thread on this, nearly everyday we have reports of people being stabbed. Big question I know but why? What has changed fin our society so much that knife crime seems almost acceptable?

Drum in the Arthur

dimanche 1 septembre 2019

I am the bloke with the drum from the Arthur yesterday and would
ask you to read this and give it some thought...

I have supported the club since the late 70s and go to every home
and nearly all away games (8000 points) I have stood at the back of
Block W for years and have noticed a massive decline in the atmosphere, especially the last few as we seem to be overtaken by
day trippers, tourists and at times away fans. I was really disappointed
at the Everton game, that by moving the HF/Singing section the link with theArthur has been lost and definitely from the back of Blocks V W & X we can now longer see them or hear what they are singing, resulting in the Arthur being quieter than ever, all we can hear now are the away fans.

Rather than moan & lose the atmosphere altogether I decided to try & do something about it. I originally put the idea of a drum in the Arthur to Steve Parish in Switzerland during pre season and he was very positive, so on Tuesday at the Colchester game I asked again & have been given permission to give it a try.

My idea is NOT to bang it continuously but ONLY if & when a chant
has started to try to increase it & spread it along the Arthur, I
acknowledge it didn’t quite work in the first half but improved in
the second & is definitely a work in progress.
Again as it is difficult to see & hear the new SS, encouraged by others
around me we started our own songs, this really seemed to get things
going - and who’s says we have to sing the same as the Holmesdale
we never have before !
I also tried moving around so no one area has to suffer continuously
as I know it’s loud and irritating to some (I also chose the smallest drum.)
As for timing issues, let’s face it, that’s always happened between
stands, in fact we don’t all keep in time when Glad All Over is played
over the tannoy.
I am sick of hearing the away fans sing “ Where’s your famous atmosphere “ & am trying to get the Arthur involved again rather
than do nothing. On Saturday I only had one negative comment to
my face & when leaving had loads of people come over and say well
done.

I intend to try & give it a go & would really appreciate your support,
if it fails at least I can say I tried.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Tottenham (away)

———————————-Guaita————————————
Ward————Cahill————————Sakho————-PVA
——-McArthur————Kouyate————-Schlupp———-
———Zaha———-——Benteke—————Ayew————-

If Luka and Kelly are injured I’d go with that. As much pace in midfield as possible. Minimal disruption to starting XI. Benteke to help hold it up and aerial power in both boxes. COYP.
