So we didnt get that big signing we all wanted but lets look at it from a wider perspective and compare with the 3 clubs promoted.
Sheff Utd; Luke Freeman - never tried or tested at PL, Phil Jagielka - experienced but not played much last year (our Cahill), Ravel Morrison - who knows what youll get with him, Ben Osborn - never tested at PL, Lys Mousset - didnt light up the PL with Bournemouth, Callum Robinson - never tested at PL, Oli McBurnie - not tested at PL, Dean Henderson - promising GK see how he goes, Mohamed Besic - few PL games but not really tested
Norwich City; Josip Drmic - hardly played a game since 2013, Sam Byram - handful of games in the PL and a few injuries, Patrick Roberts - not really tested at PL and okay loan spells, Ibrahim Amadou - Who?, Ralf Farhrmann - experienced GK in Germany
Aston Villa; Tom Heston - experienced Gk, Jota - not tested at PL, Bjorn Engels - no PL experience, Kortney Hause - no PL experience, Tyrone Mings - not tested much at PL and several injuries, Marvelous Nakamba - no PL experience, Trezeguet - no PL experience, Matt Targett - some PL experience, Wesley - no PL experience, Anwar el Ghazi - no PL experience, Ezra Konsa - no PL experience, Douglas Luiz - no PL experience
Crystal Palace; Gary Cahill - experienced and won every domestic and European trophy not played much but will be a good leader in the team, James McCarthy - PL experience and an FA Cup winner yes he had a broken leg but hopefully thats sorted, Jordan Ayew - happy to be a squad player knows he will be behind Will and Andros, Victor Camarasa - 31 games last year for Cardiff so knows what the PL is about, Stephen Henderson - good 3rd choice GK will help push the other two.
When you look at it they may not be exciting signings but they are players who fit into the squad, dont have egos and know the league. Look at Roys previous signings when he was at Fulham and West Brom and he brought in experienced players with no egos who got the job done. Also it was those experienced players who Helped Roy get Fulham to 7th
