Time To Be Positive

jeudi 31 août 2017

Ok you miserable lot! I'm as frustrated as the rest of you, however we now have to get behind the team.

The squad cannot change until January so we may as well cheer and get behind them and hope for success.

Let's try and stay positive and support the manager and players. We have an amazing reputation for being vocal and supporting our team. It's now time to start executing it.

Suggestion: Cheick Diabate

Free Agent, Decent player. Banged goals in Ligue 1

Disastrous summer

To end it with one striker is totally inept. I am seething. Gamble back fired. We can't even call on fraizer Campbell. We deserve an explanation for this, its unforgivable.

Suggestion: Striker Free agents

if we have missed out on Niasse

who do we go for tomorrow?

Travel Information Manchester United away

Only a month until this one!

Just thought I'd let people know that Manchester River Cruises is providing a matchday boat from Spinningfields to Old Trafford and back for the Palace game. It's £14 per person, leaves town at 2pm and gets you to the stadium half an hour before kick-off. The return boat is 20 minutes after the full-time whistle.

And yes...it has a bar on board!

We've already booked a couple of tickets but it'd be nice to be among some fellow Palace fans if anyone fancies it:

Euro WC Qualifiers Thu 31/8 - Tue 5/9

Fosu-Mensah making Dutch debut versus France. The Dutch playing very much like this season's Palace. In no means meant as a compliment. France currently 1-0 up. Scored by the one with the girls haircut and silly phone celebration.

Rumour: Eliaquim Mangala

mercredi 30 août 2017

CRYSTAL PALACE are closing in on a £23million deal to sign Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City.

The Eagles have turned their attention to the out-of-favour defender after failing to agree terms with Liverpool for Mamadou Sakho.

Palace saw a £25m bid waved away by Anfield chiefs for their No1 target and have suspended their interest.

Liverpool upped the asking price to Sakho to £30m plus add-ons following interest from other Premier League sides.

Mangala, 26, was a surprise name offered to Selhurt chiefs yesterday and they are closing in on a permanent deal for the France defender.

Mangala – also a target for West Brom and Inter Milan – spent last season on loan at Valencia after being told by City chief Pep Guardiola that he was surplus to requirements at the Etihad.

Now Palace, who have lost their opening three Premier League games under Frank de Boer, are ready to rescue his career.

It is set to be a dramatic deadline day for struggling Palace who are determined to land a centre-back.

Rumour: Miguel Angel Moya

Appears we've had a 8m Euro bid rejected for the Atletico Madrid no.2.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Translated article:

Atlético de Madrid has rejected an offer from the English Crystal Palace by Miguel Àngel Moyá. The goal, 33 , has a contract for the remainder of the season and the English side offered eight million euros to get the goalkeeper. The format of the transaction was a compulsory purchase cession of three million now and five at the end of the season with an important chip for the goalkeeper and a year of contract with two more optional.

The offer was rejected yesterday by the rojiblanco set at the request of Diego Pablo Simeone , who has the goalkeeper despite being second behind Jan Oblak. Moyá last year when he had to replace the Slovenian by injury and the coach wants to have two goalkeepers of guarantees although he also has Werner, newcomer and without as much experience as the Balearic.
The confidence of Simeone in Moyá and the impossibility of signing a goalkeeper for the sanction FIFA have been decisive for the continuity of the goalkeeper despite the good conditions offered. Moyá renews with Atlético de Madrid year by year and despite having a superior offer economically and of longer duration , the goal decided to stay also knowing that they can not sign and his exit could be a problem for the club by what the parties gave I would like to thank you for your patience.
In fact, despite being 33 years old, Moyá's offer was half of what Jan Oblak cost in his day, the biggest transfer made by the club mattress by a goalkeeper. Moyá continues with contract until June, there is predisposition to extend it during the season although Cristal Palace does not resign to resume the option in January when the sanction FIFA is finished.

Discussion: Transfer Deadline Day 17/18

Here we go then.

What are your hopes?

Realistically I'd be happy with a first choice goalkeeper (Vorm?), a centre-half (Sakho?) and a striker (Tosun?).

If we end up with Hennessey still between the sticks and Sakho fails to sign it's going to be an incredibly grim day.

Over to you Jim.

Club Finances

Obviously lots of talk currently that we can't afford players x, y, and z etc. Just made me think should we need to be worried about the finances at the club and are we in danger of it getting out of control as we have all seen happen before.

We all appreciate a lot of money was spent over the last 2 transfer windows with massive wages also for players like Benteke, Zaha, Cabaye, Dann etc and likely Sakho too if and when a deal gets done.

So do we need to be worried if this is why Parish isnt splashing the cash this time around due to us running out of money or is he purely going by the rules of FFP which lots of other purely are not doing?

Rumour: Free Agent Keeper

Dominic Fifield says we could be signing a free agent keeper outside of the window. Doesn't sound likely to be a first choice unfortunately. Is there a list of free agents around somewhere?

Chicken Balti Pie

Right...

Time to address the real issue this season.

The demise of the chicken balti pie from the food menu.

All this FdB/Sakho nonsense has been clouding the real issue this season - who the hell changed the pies??

T'was a great pie.

Rumour: Sakho

£10 million bid

no not that one

Diaffra

Rumour: Cenk Tosun

Turkish media reporting that we are after Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun. Sounds like we offered £2.5million and Besiktas want £10million.

Rumour: Solomon Kvirkvelia

LEICESTER CITY, Crystal Palace and West Brom are in a three-way tussle for Lokomotiv Moscow star Solomon Kvirkvelia.

SunSport have been told the three Premier League sides are keen to land the £18million rated central defender less than 48 hours before the transfer deadline.

Kvirkvelia, 25 signed a long-term deal with Lokomotiv after a successful loan stint from Rubin Kazan in June.

And the Georgian international’s outstanding performances in the Russian top flight have alerted a host of Premier League clubs looking to bolster their defence.

The 6ft 4in defender has been earmarked as an ideal addition to the Prem with his no-nonsense approach to defending.

Despite joining Lokomotiv on a permanent basis just a couple of months ago, the big defender would jump at the opportunity to move to England.

Leicester City, boss Craig Shakespeare is still on the hunt for defensive options, despite signing Harry Maguire from Hull.

The Baggies are bracing themselves for the departure of Jonny Evans – the former Manchester United defender is being chased by Manchester City and Leicester City.

Discussion: Are We Ever Going To Clear Out The deadwood?

For me, the lack of clearing out the deadwood is more puzzling than the lack of signings. Why not send Mutch, Lee and Sako out on 6 month loan with no fee and pay half their wages? If they do well then we can command a higher loan fee and pay all of their wages or the club might buy them permanently. I am buffled Mutch is still here with just over 24 hours of the window to go.

Rumour: Jordy Clasie

On our radar according to Ed Malyon.

Hilariously obvious this would happen back when it was announced he was available for transfer.

Woy Throws His Hat in the Ring

ROY HODGSON is ready to come to Crystal Palace’s rescue if they fire Frank de Boer.

Hodgson, out of full-time work since leaving England after Euro 2016, has told friends he has “one last job” in him.

Ex-England boss Roy Hodgson is looking for a last hurrah
His claim comes as Palace chairman Steve Parish agonises over whether to sack his Dutch coach after three straight Premier League defeats.

Palace have failed to score a league goal under De Boer this season.

Ex-West Brom boss Hodge was a trainee at Palace and still has connections with the Eagles.

The 70-year-old is prepared to speak to Parish if the job comes up as he feels he has a point to prove after England’s disastrous Euro 2016 exit to Iceland.

Palace also had a THIRD bid rejected for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, 27, who was on loan at Selhurst Park last term.

The bid of £22million, plus £3m in add-ons, fell way short of the Reds’ £30m price tag.

Why not come to Wycombe Wanderers this weekend?

Hello all,

Wycombe fan here in peace. With the international break upon us and Crystal Palace not in action, I would like to cordially invite you all to take in some League Two football at Adams Park, High Wycombe this coming Saturday, where the mighty Chairboys will take on Forest Green Rovers, those famous vegan warriors. If you are sick of the corporate side of the Premier League, and decry the loss of that sense of connection, fear not - we can offer agricultural tackles, sky high long balls and sections of terracing that will have you nostalgic for the 1980s!

On a serious note, we boast the strongest footballer on the planet in Adebayo Akinfenwa, one of the most pleasant grounds in the country in Adams Park, and a fan owned club that is known for it's friendliness. To top it all, our league scorelines this year have been 2-2, 3-2, 2-4, and 3-2, so I can almost...almost, guarantee a feast of goals.

So feel free to join us, and good luck for the rest of the Premier League season!

Suggestion: Renato Sanches

Not sure how the hell Swansea seem to be in pole position to sign this guy on a season long loan, but isn't he exactly the type of player we should be making a similar approach for?

Rumour: Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui

CRYSTAL PALACE and Middlesbrough are competing to sign £3million Cameroon international defender Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui.

The 26-year-old helped Slavia Prague lift the Czech Republic title last season.

And he shone for his national team as they won the African Nations Cup in Gabon in February.

The versatile Ngadeu-Ngadjui can operate as either a centre-back or defensive midfielder.

Beleaguered Palace boss Frank de Boer wants to add the African ace to his squad as they seek to overcome a nightmare start to the new season.

The Dutchman has lost all three Premier League games so far.

Meanwhile, Boro chief Garry Monk is also keen on Ngadeu-Ngadjui.

The ex-Swansea and Leeds United manager as he plots to return the Teessiders to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Holiday in February half term

Looking to take my daughter away in the February half term somewhere either warm for a beach abroad or fun for kids indoors somewhere.

She will be 8 by the time we go and just looking for somewhere we can have some fun in the grim half term. We've done Butlins and whilst she loved it my limit was pushed from the minute we arrived and I just can't go through that again but will sit through a package holiday if needs be where there can at least be sunshine.

I don't get the chance to take her away due to our living circumstances so looking to make this one special, any recommendations?

Architect Recommendations

Folks,

Im looking at knocking a few rooms into 1 to make a large kitchen diner, and a new roof put in etc to let more light in, and need to find a decent architect and was wondering if anyone here was one - or could recommend one?

Also what sort of price should i be looking at - its all within the existing footprint of the house so i dont think needs planning, though guessing building regs will need to be involved as will need a few steel beams to be put in.

At what point do you blame the players?

I've mentioned this in a few threads but thought it deserved it's own.

Putting aside the individual scapegoats (Hennessey, Puncheon etc) at what point is some of the anger on here towards the board and manager redirected at the players collectively?

We've been putting up with awful home form for 3 years now, under four different managers. Also, let's not forget that although he did superbly last season, Allardyce couldn't turn around our form until Sakho came in, before our form collapsed once again when he got injured.

I genuinely think that, other than two or three exceptions we have a squad that is mentally weak. In the two home games this season (in terms of game minutes) they've conceded a 2nd goal pretty much straight after going behind.

You look to the squads of 2010 and 2014 which managed to stay up against the odds, despite having players who (on paper at least) were not as individually gifted. This squad just don't seem to have the same fight.

Hisense TV's

I am looking at getting a 49" + TV and I am looking for good deals.

I have noticed a brand I have never heard of (Hisense) and they seem very cheap. Has anyone got one of these and are they any good?

Well the smileys are the right colour but everything else is

Suggestion: Who is desperate?

Make a list of unwanted or wantaway players here, because at this rate they are all we can get now:

West Ham - Snodgrass, Fonte

Suggestion: Divock Origi

Liverpool prepared to let him go out on loan, perhaps we could even structure a deal not too dissimilar to Inenacho's at Leicester with a high buy back clause in 2 years should they want...

What would you do?

dimanche 27 août 2017

I've been thinking and thinking about the way forward and I'm struggling. Clearly things are going badly wrong and we have some big decisions to make, Do we get rid now, in a week, a month or longer and so many issues that relate to it.

This is a nightmare timing really, things to ponder:

- We have about 100 hours left of the transfer window, do we sign players for Frank's system, generally or just don't bother?

- Managerially; sack him now (who fancies a move to a manager less club?) or keep him either to see how he does in the next few months or dare I say it until the window closes and we have tried to sign players almost under false pretences?

- If we were to sack Frank, either now or down the road, who the hell would we get? Who would want to come here and who is the right choice? I wasn't keen when it was mentioned at the time but Dyche feels like it would have been the right choice...can't see him fancying a move here now!

I apologise for starting another shitty thread but as the title says: WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Dominic Fifield:

Frank de Boer’s future as Crystal Palace manager is in serious doubt after only three Premier League games in charge with the club’s hierarchy understood to be deeply unimpressed with the start he has made in English football and increasingly unconvinced he will be willing to adapt his approach and instigate a revival.

Also, his diagonal balls are tasty, it's a real shame our team isn't set up to make the most of them.

Discussion: Some huge decisions to make in the next 4 days

I don't envy being Steve Parish at the moment. So many key questions to consider and so little time:

1. The majority owners of the club clearly have no appetite for the annual relegation dogfight (and as Pards pointed out, don't really understand football). They want a quick return on their investment, then to cut and run. How do you reconcile this with making the three or four key signings which might get our season back on track?

2. Do you back your new manager in his continuing quest to change the playing culture, when it clearly either doesn't fit with the players we have in the squad, or they are stubbornly refusing to try and adopt it? Can you buy enough round pegs for round holes in 4 days? Seems highly unlikely.

3. At what point do you have to insist that we actually have a very good first XI when they are deployed to their strengths, insist on returning to a 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 with wide men and service for Benteke, and buy some decent back up in positions where there is little depth?

4. Do you play the long game, let the Americans asset strip and manage an orderly relegation, relying on Dougie Freedman's talent for identifying value in the Football League ?

5. Do you seek to sell on to a completely new foreign owner because you've poured your life and soul in to the last 7 years and could do without the thankless hassle and aggravation?

This is now a very high stakes game of stick or twist, which could have far reaching consequences for Crystal Palace. Only time will tell if decisions made over the next few days were good ones.

FDB - back or sack???

Notice to moderators:

I have absolutely no idea why the poll I created last night got merged into FDB discussion after 50 votes were cast.

I feel that despite it being only 3 games and 2 months and a day into his job we have a right on a discussion board to vote whether at this moment in time you would back or sack him.

Embarrassing....

samedi 26 août 2017

No not the team, some of our fans on here.

Yes, it's been a dreadful start and clearly there have been issues unaddressed from last season and beyond, the system is not currently working but some of the vitriol on here since the match finished seriously??

Ward is a c*** (despite being loyal servant to club)
Kelly is a c***
Fdb is a useless c*** (3 games in, 2 without wilf)
Parish is a c*** (despite saving this club)
Benteke is a lazy b*******
Punch can f*** off (local boy/fellow palace fan)
Etc etc

Feel free to criticise but the manner is embarrassing, what have we become? A bunch of keyboard warriors? Club trolls?

I don't want relegation but we dont have a divine right to stay in this division and I'll take it on the chin if it happens, especially if it gets rid of some of the comments/ so called "fans" on here.

Discussion: Hypothetical question

Would you accept Palace selling Benteke, Cabaye and Towsend this week, if the money is re-invested in signing players to play the FDB system?

FDB - back or sack???

Really simple what would you do. 2 months to the day since his been appointed?

He lasted 85 days at Inter and this is currently day 61.....

Suggested Team and Formation For: Burnley (away)

Assuming no signings, which considering Parish wants to sell up looks about right:

--------------------Hennessey--------------------------
------Fosu-Mensah---Dann-----Riedewald-------------
---------------------Milivojevic-------------------------
Townsend---Cabaye-------------RLC-----Schlupp
---------------Benteke--------Zaha--------------------

No Puncheon. No Ward.

Can't put my finger on it but something ain't right in SE25...

Been through a lot with the Palace but this feels all wrong. Dunno why. Am I losing it with age or something's going leftfield...

Pant Wetting Thread

I said if we lost today I would start this thread and so be it.

I for one think we are heading in only one direction this season and that's through the relegation trapdoor unless some changes happen quick - New players, FDB tactics, luck...whatever

Square pegs, round holes
Back to p*ss poor defending
Giving away goals
Heads went down when the first goal went in
Not enough signings for positions that are crying out to be strengthened
Injuries already to Wilf and RLC
Poor pre-season prep has now already left us playing catch-up and a bunch of players who already look to have fragile/no confidence.
Martin Kelly very very very bad day at the office
Hennessey, second goal (after Kelly's mistake), came, stopped , came again, got left in no mans land......am I the only one who though had he just gone for the ball and row Z'd it he would have got there first, instead of more indecisive boll*cks.
FDB dont sit in your effing dugout with your arms folded
SteveP - we need to invest on the first team
Why are the Crystals in Leggings ?

Swansea were Cr*p, did they even create a chance themselves that wasnt from comical defending on our part, including both goals.....jeeze everyone in the league will want to be playing us right now. They had just sold their play maker and were without their main striker and they still managed to beat us without actually creating anything themselves....FFS

Two out of our first three games on paper we would have expected to get something from, instead we have gifted 6 points to 2 teams that will be down the wrong end of the table at the end of the season

If I can try and find anything positive from today
Jimmy Mac - welcome back, energy, graft and skill
Cabaye threading those balls through (even if Swansea were sitting back)
CYL looked lively and tidy

I'm off to slip into my TENA pants

Crystal Palace set for talks with manager Frank de Boer

And so it begins...

Quote:

Crystal Palace are expected to hold discussions with manager Frank de Boer this week amid concerns about their start to the season.

The Dutchman is under pressure already as Palace have yet to register a point in their opening games with three straight defeats and have disappointed in their performances.

De Boer, who said he was not worried about his job prior to the game, criticised his side's 'a lack of courage' following Saturday's defeat to Swansea.

Puncheon and Ward will take us down

Frank, you gutless ****. If you'd watched the tapes of us last season you would know these 2 are the problem. You make one of them an undroppable pointing pointless captain. The other you drop in pre-season but then reinstate after bottling it. Townsend as wing back all pre-season, and now that out ball has gone because Joel Ward has some kind of special dispensation to play no matter what - right wing back, centre back, left back it doesn't matter. Then you leave our best midfielder, Yohan Cabaye, on the bench. Just resign if you still haven't worked it out. An utter disgrace, and only WZ and RLC papering over the cracks. You don't deserve to have them at your disposal. I think we will finally slip through the trap door into the Championship if this continues. How embarrassing for you that of our 2 best players, one you supposedly wanted to transfer out and the other you want to freeze out and leave rotting on the subs bench.

Choose the players on merit. Please. Give us a ******* chance. Please.

Selling Yannick bolasie the worst thing we ever did!

With him and Wilf we always had a chance... We should have paid him the wages he wanted, we do now.

Why do I get the feeling we have been like this before.

Sam, please come back.

Sam, PLEASE come back. Reconsider your decision - we beg you.
I'm not one for knee jerk reactions but this clearly is not right or working. We look nothing like the club we know and love.
Please SP, do everything you need to get Sam back. He's know what we're about and knows how to play to our strengths. I have nothing against FdB as a person, but he's not us. We look a shadow of ourselves from previous seasons.

Please, please....

Inept

That's all.

I am thoroughly fed up with this completely unnecessary debacle.

Time for Parish to go

I know I will get it in the neck but Parish needs to go. I know he saved the club but it's becoming ever more evident he hasn't got a clue and it was the other 3 in the group were the brains behind the revival that got us promoted.
Ever since Parish took solo control with the Yanks things have gone to pot. He needs to explain whats happened to the money and why we've seen no improvements on ot off the pitch.
Oh and to those who ask why I'm not at the game I've got a season ticket and have had for years. Hoeever I've had a very stressful week at work and decided going to the game would only frustrate rather than relax I was right

Rumour: Shane Long

"Palace are also among the clubs keen on Southampton striker Shane Long, 30, along with Newcastle and Brighton."

Suggestion: Kagisho Dikgacoi

I think this guy can solve all of our problems.

Get him in, Steve!

What if the BBS existed in it's present form in the year that....

I'll start....

.....Princess Diana died.

Suggestion: Aleksandar Mitrovic

I feel this is somebody we could get in to provide good competition/back up for Benteke. He's a decent player with still in my opinion great potential to be a good forward. He's at a young age which fits in with our transfer policy now. Mike Ashley and Benitez have both admitted they need to sell to raise funds so he could prove to be relatively cheap. Also friends with Luka and Luka has admitted he'd love to play with Mitrovic at club level.

I expect quite strong opinions on this one for obvious reasons but I do believe under the right guidance and fit he could manage his temperament and mature himself as a good player.

Suggestion: Ruben Loftus Cheek (permanent)

Come on then, if the scouts have run out of ideas, let's try to sign a player who we all like. Offer Chelsea £40m including add-ons, with a buy back clause that can be activated in 3 years time.

Would open up another loan slot as well, so we may save Sakho's transfer fee. And we could stagger the payments, and sign a talented player for more than a season. Not saying Chelsea would go for it, but could give it a go!

Where is the Pre Swansea Presser?

Either I am being blind and cannot find it or there hasn't been one yet?

Anyone know what time it may start, or if it already has? I like reading the 'minutes' on here whilst I'm at work.

Jonny Williams in Wales Squad again

Jonny Williams has been selected for the Wales squad yet again.

What is FdB missing here?

Suggestion: Arda Turan

Somewhat surprised that someone hasn't thrown this out there - allowed to leave on a free from Barcelona apparently.

Liverpool, Arsenal interested - would imagine the latter a more likely destination, but doesn't quite fit with either of their purchasing ethos. I'm sure bigger clubs than us will be in for him, but if you don't buy a ticket, etc, etc.

Exactly what we need. Just a thought.

Suggestion: Ben Gibson

Surprised he hasn't been mentioned. Centre back, young, one of the few who impressed last season in a poor Boro side. I'd take him in a heartbeat if the price was right.

Discussion: Sakho or Wimmer??

As we are heavily linked to both players - what is the consensus on which is the better centre back taking into consideration the associated costs of the two players?

No heroes anymore!

jeudi 24 août 2017

Most famous people, most idols, those considered great are flawed in some way or another.

People are complex - who knew?

In this cynical world of 2017, it's easy to dismiss everyone and everything.

Do you have any heroes - famous peeps not mummy or daddy or a favourite teacher or some gut sickening bollox like that.

Give us five heroes and why? Politics, entertainment, sport, science, literature, medicine, inventions, music, human empathy and assistance, sacrifice....

What to do about Yemen

A couple of nights ago the BBC led its main evening news with a harrowing report from Yemen about the proxy war going on there. Fought between the Iranian backed Houthi rebels and a coalition led by Saudi Arabia, over 7000 people have died and 42,000 injured since it began in 2015. War crimes have been committed by both sides according to the UN, and over 70,000 children are now suffering from malnutrition following a blockade of the main ports by the coalition.

The coalition includes Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain. It also receives logistical and intelligence support from the US, UK and France.

Despite the unprecedented humanitarian disaster unfolding, we have heard very little protest from those who are usually so quick to appear on the news demanding action, protests, boycotts etc. Goodness it hasn't even generated a thread on here. I wonder why that could be? Not easy enough for the BBC to cover, too complicated, not involving the usual suspects?

Ipad Pro

Has anybody got one of these?
I know they have branded it a laptop killer, but how does it actually compare in real life? Just using the basics such as word, power point etc

Cheers.

Suggestion: Joel Campbell?

Been having a look through at people that could be available, and this lad has got something about him and not in wenger's plans, surely worth looking it and considering he can play across the front 3 would be a steal if we could get him below £10 Million?

Cups over league survival?

It seems to me that many fans (of all clubs) would now prefer 17th place in the Premier League than to win a cup competition. I just want to know the feelings on this.

I have supported Palace and had a season ticket for many years (pre 2010) and it is in my opinion that a cup win will last forever in the memory. Relegations/promotions come and go and as Palace fans we have had our fair share.

People's thoughts?

Negativity towards Kaikai and Lokilo

I really cannot believe the negativity shown by some towards these two after the Ipswich game.

FDB gave them a huge task by not picking a recognised striker, so they were often receiving the ball with their backs to goal which is clearly not playing to their strengths. Only towards the end did a change in formation let them run at defenders. Up until that we were pumping the ball up to them thinking they were Benteke.

I suggest that we should cast our minds back to when Wilf first broke into the team. Many could not see his potential, there were doubts about his physical strength. We were unsure of his best position, second striker or out wide ?

It takes a lot more than one game for the manager and all the other players to understand what their strengths are, how they can fit in to a system, and for them to gain the confidence to fully express their talents

We all moan about nobody breaking through from the academy, so lets not write these guys off too soon.

Frank De Boer's Crystal Palace Tactics

To view the link you have to Register or Login
Everyone should watch this. An amazing analysis of the tactics against Hudds. It clearly shows how we want to play but why it didn't work. Also singles out Ward as a very weak link meaning RLC has to go out to the wing causing a huge imbalance within the team. But if he continues to push the tactics and with a few more signings it could be an amazing era.

Enjoy.

Anyone else been on this?

pub debate

interesting pub debate before the match tonight. would love to hear opinions here.

If for the next round of league cup (cant remember sponsor name) we get Brighton home, would we sell out selhurst?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Ipswich

Start with the positives
Cabaye played 90 mins and looked decent
McArthur played 90 mins and scored 2
Townsend was the difference when he came on

That's it.

Negatives
3 at the back. Doesn't work with these players. We switched to a flat back 4 for the last 20 mins the difference was stark
Slow ponderous passing going nowhere.
Poor technique from van aanholt, the two kids and occasionally schlupp killed any slight incision dead.
It was tedious beyond belief.

Being a parent

I had thought about posting this in the depression thread but I couldn't find it.
Anyway back on track I wanted to ask if anyone else thought that being a parent was the most important thing you could do with your life (if fate allowed it).
I know my daughter is the only thing that keeps me clinging to what society demands without her I'd either be dead or on the streets (or maybe doing what i want rather than a soul destroying job making the lives of othets worse)
Anyway what are your thoughts

Footballers Named In Hack

Carlos Tevez, Dirk Kuyt and Gabriel Heinze have been named by hackers Fancy Bears as three of the footballers allowed to use banned medicines during the 2010 World Cup.

The trio were among 25 players given Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) during the tournament in South Africa.

The Russian group also claims 160 players failed drugs tests in 2015 in the latest leaked documents.

Four of the failed tests were registered by UK Anti-Doping (Ukad).

Three players tested positive for cocaine and one for ecstasy.

This is the first time Fancy Bears hackers have released details about football, having previously released medical records of athletes.

Discussion: Free Transfers

As bleak as it may seem. Are we likely to be heading down the route of looking at free transfers again?

Are there even any out there that can add anything to to the squad other than making up the numbers?

We haven't seemed to have much luck either with Flamini and Adebayor either. More or less pissed away wages that could have been used elsewhere or given a youth team player a chance to step up.

Suggestion: Troy Deeney

Watford fan at work seems to think he is likely to go this month.

We have scouted him extensively in the past....

Would you take him ?

Discussion: Ben Watson

Just seen an article suggesting Ben Watson could be an ideal signing for us as Watford could look to offload him.

I think his delivery from set plays could be a huge plus for us especially with Benteke, who will thrive on the crosses provided.

CPFC Sydney Supporters vs Oz Spurs (Aug 27th)

Killer Robot apocalypse . AI warning .

To view the link you have to Register or Login

More than 100 leading robotics experts are urging the United Nations to take action in order to prevent the development of "killer robots".

In a letter to the organisation, artificial intelligence (AI) leaders, including billionaire Elon Musk, warn of "a third revolution in warfare".

The letter says "lethal autonomous" technology is a "Pandora's box", adding that time is of the essence.

The 116 experts are calling for a ban on the use of AI in managing weaponry.

"Once developed, they will permit armed conflict to be fought at a scale greater than ever, and at timescales faster than humans can comprehend," the letter says.

"These can be weapons of terror, weapons that despots and terrorists use against innocent populations, and weapons hacked to behave in undesirable ways," it adds.

Singapore Palace

Stumbled upon this little gem of a bar last night - a Palace pub in Singapore.

The name is a tad odd... "Lion's Den"! But the owner is an Eagle, originally from Kent. An array of CPFC memorabilia on display; see attached photos.

Thought I'd share the good news with fellow exiles and those Eagles paying a visit to S'pore on vacation/biz trip.

It's on Club Street, near Chinatown and has a decent selection of on tap beer and several screens showing the football. Also, pool table, dart board and old school video games.

Does anyone remember a sit down protest in the Arthur Waite around the early to mid 80s?

There were rumours of a merger with QPR so my mate and I joined the crowd and sat down for about 20 mins after the game.

But then we had to leave as our Mums would be wondering where we were.

Us Fans

Ok, this might be seen as controversial, it isn't supposed to be, but it is a matter that has been playing on my mind. I was talking to a non-palace supporting mate today who watched the game against Liverpool. He stated that we played well, looked organised, deserved to not lose and had it not been for a silly error, he thinks we would have got a point. Meanwhile some of our own fans have labelled it a poor performance. We then got onto discussing other matters and when it came to our home form, he questioned whether our home struggles are because the team feel the pressure from us. This got me thinking, are we perhaps to blame?

Now don't get me wrong, there are lots of factors that have led to our problems, lack of depth, delayed transfers, bad decisions and such. But i think if we are honest with ourselves, we as fans have changed in recent times. The first couple of seasons we were just so damn happy to be in the prem we were rocking home and away no matter what because all that mattered was backing the team. But under Pardew, that has changed. Maybe it is because a third season and then a cup final has brought in other fans with less patience. Maybe it is because that first year under pardew, getting to 5th at xmas, we got a taste of being better and became poisoned by it. Perhaps a bit of both I imagine. Also add into that the fact that the last sixteen months bar a few performances under Sam, we have been severely scarred by a huge decline on the pitch. We went from feeling like we could beat anyone, to feeling like a pub team would turn us over.

But while all these factors exist, i do feel that as fans we have played a role in the decline. There have been several acts over recent times that have disappointed me, many of which have been discussed and argued about on here. But just look at us currently. FDB was written off by some the day he was appointed. After one half of football last week, some people booed the team off at half time. More boos followed after full time. ONE GAME! Yes, it was a shocker, but hands up who here hasn't seen hundreds of shockers from Palace over the years? To boo after the first game of a new season, with a new manager trying to make changes without being given the players to do so, it is simply ludicrous. FDB posted on Twitter on monday that it was a disappointing result we needed to learn from, but thanked the fans. The comments underneath were people ripping into him and calling him a c**t. What the hell? There are people saying that if we lose next week they will be calling for his head. On the Hol Podcast last week they had to highlight issues of fans directly tweeting players to slag them off. What have we become? Away fans mock us with the 'where's your famous atmosphere' chant and they are right. That atmosphere has faded. Yes performances have been poor far too often, but a few years ago that didn't stop us from singing our hearts out. Now though, Selhurst is a ticking time bomb just ready to explode when things start going wrong. We must make players nervous at Selhurst, when so many are shouting out negativity when certain players have the ball. Especially if they read social media.

We have been praised a few times this week by staff/players at the club and quite frankly, i don't think we earned it. Joel Ward praised fans for the open training session, while others were on here slating the club for doing it! The results have been tough, some decision frustrating and yes, our transfer policy boggles my mind at times. But some of the things I see and hear these days from fans, it just kills this club. Look back a few months, when we all rallied together at the Boro game and for the first time in a long time, the club felt as one when it had been such a powder keg prior that blew against Sunderland. I fear that next week could be the same. I fear that the moment a few passes are made between keeper and defender, people will start to moan loudly and our players will get nervous. I fear that if we fall behind the groans and boos will come out and if we lose, i fear that we will return to the horrendous soul sucking atmosphere that was last season under Pardew.

I hope it doesn't happen, I hope we win and start to build from there. But i fear the opposite and i have to say, if it happens, blame will lie at our door.

Sorry for this long ramble, just a bit fed up with so much negativity. I miss the days where no matter how shite we were, we just got behind the team no matter what.

James Milner

How did he not get booked?

Five or six cynical challenges deliberately to disrupt our attack. Two were definite yellows, and all we're at least as bad as what Punch got booked for.

He'd have been off if he'd been playing for us.

Martin Kelly Song

Just wanted to say well done to the blokes that came up with a new Martin Kelly Song. Didn't quite catch on, but good effort:

We've got Kelly

He knocked Tottenham out the cup
He scored at the Lane

Crystal Ball Liverpool Away

Here we go again.

Score, scorers and attendance for our visit to Anfield.

What is it about Palace and Liverpool matches?

It has an amazing history considering the relative size and successes of both clubs. You could even write a very engaging book on the encounters such is the Twighlight Zone nature of many of them. Was having this conversation with an eminent BBSer the other day; there's something special about this meeting that conjures up the notable, bizzare and unusual.

For a start, there is no other 'big' club that we have somehow had so much success against in recent years. We haven't beaten Man U in the league since '91, yet Liverpool we've come to expect it every top flight season.

Opposing this of course is when Liverpool do beat us, it invariably is a humiliating drubbing: 9-0, 6-1, 5-0...many 3-0's. Something of the like I'm expecting Saturday, not just because of the Huddersfield experience but because we've pushed our luck and won 3 on the spin at Anfield so fate decrees it's their turn to punish us with an embarrassing tonking.

But what is it about Palace and Liverpool games that conjure up such a memorable outcome?

Of course 89/90 goes down in football folklore, never mind our respective clubs historys. To be utterly trounced 9-0 to a side then in the same season face that same club in the FA Cup semi and beat them 4-3 would be far fetched in a Roy of the Rovers story. Sandwiched in between was a 2-0 league defeat at Selhurst where Ian Wright first breaks his leg and began one of the FA Cup's most amazing stories.

Remember when we beat them at Anfield in 91/92 season when Liverpool's powers were beginning to dwindle, and a journalist wrote that when Liverpool's headstone is carved, the name 'Crystal Palace' will be etched on it in big letters.

Other notable games have been the 3-3 Crystanbul of course; the 5-0 away League Cup defeat when it all became about Clinton Morrison's comments from the first leg saying he could've scored some of Michael Owen's failed attempts.

There was the 1-6 home drubbing in '94. Not many can 'boast' conceding 6 at home in their very first game of a season. Ray Wilkins Palace career lasting less than half an hour that day.

Even in 1977, as a 3rd Division side up against the European champions adorned with giants of the game like Keegan, Clemence, Jimmy Case, Emlyn Hughes...we took them to 2 exhilarating FA Cup matches - the second ending in by all accounts (just before my time) an unbelievable 2-3 defeat notable for an amazing Paul Hinchelwood effort.

Even the game in 79/80 is seen as a bit of a landmark and the moment the 'Team of the 80's' dream died. We hit the summit of English football for the only time in our club's history that year and the media hailed the encounter at Anfield as 'The team of the 70's v The team of the 80's'. The result was a 3-0 hammering - totally ripped to pieces and the beginning of the end of a wonderous era under Terry Venables and the kids.

We must be the only club to have beaten them at Anfield 3 years on the spin surely? 'They must be sick of us'. So what is it about Palace and Liverpool?

Chloe Ayling - Kidnap?

Anyone else think this case is a little strange? Apparently the 'victim' is being widely paradied by people in the modelling profession who doubt her version of events. Is there a chance it's a bizarre PR stunt to increase her profile?

When I initially saw the story and her demeanor in TV interviews it didn't seem to add up. It had the whiff of when the police get suspects in missing person investigations in front of the cameras when they doubt alibis etc.

Sell Benteke!

To Everton for £50 million they need a number nine.....buy Batshuayi off Chelsea and the Scottish winger off the Red bull boys...or Moussa Dembele from Celtic.

Holmesdale Pub Showing All Palace Away Games This Season

Carrying on from the extremely successful re-opening last Saturday, the Holmesdale Pub will be showing all Palace home and away games this season on the new projector and multiple HD screens. That includes this Saturdays game v's Liverpool, so anyone who ain't got a ticket for the match, get down the boozer from 12 midday. Please get the word out to the Palace fanbase and support the main Palace pub in South London.

Suggestion: Robert Snodgrass

Been made available for transfer by West Ham.

Perfect competition for Wilf/Andros surely? (If we can ignore his awful dive last season)

Van hits crowds in Barcelona .

Awful if a terror attack .

Former Palace player's that would suit FdB's system?

This could be interesting. Not sure we have ever played anything like De Boer's system before. Didn't Big Mal play 6 at the back v Leeds in the cup once?

Anyway I was wondering how many players, past or presently still playing could adapt or have played well with 3 at the back?

I'll start with the obvious one, Victor Moses.

With a better scouting network could we have signed the likes of Alli

As above

I thought we had a thread on him already but couldn't find it. I suppose no great surprise but he appears to be back on the drugs. Holiday in Croatia recommendations/advice

Looking to go away with the missus towards the end of September to Croatia for around 5 days.

A beach holiday with a bit of sightseeing thrown in on a day or so.

Any recommendations on places to go/see/eat at/drink at etc?

Rumour: Max Kruse

Should add this is no more than gossip from a German work contact, but apparently Liverpool, Southampton and us sniffing around Max Kruse from Werder Bremen. 18 Million Euros the rumoured fee Werder are looking for.

Suggestion: Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

Signed by Warnock for Cardiff and has started the season on fire. All the right attributes to move up leagues even with his age (25).

The type of player that we could do worse than buying on the relative cheap and loaning back if required. If he was to score 10/15 goals he would soon become a 8/10m player.

Album Closers

I'm in the process of putting together a Spotify playlist of great album closers. Hoping not to miss anything, especially some of the less-obvious choices.

So Music Forum, what are yours and why?

Championship 17/18

Interesting start. Warnock sitting on top with three wins out of three; the first time Cardiff have ever won their first three league matches.

Bruce and Villa yet to record a win and sitting second bottom.

Say something positive about Palace

Simple if you look across the BBS lots of really negative threads and discussion, some totally justified and people are entitled to their opinions. This thread is purely to redress the balance at the start of a new season.

To start off:
Open training session today. Loads of kids there, really good interactions going on with the players after the session.:p

Sonic Mania

Not sure if there is already a thread on this, but this was released today. Has anybody played it?

It's seriously good! Seriously.
I've always been a bit of a Sonic fanboy but can say how good it is without bias.

How a few people have made a better game than Sonic Team has in around 20 years shows how shit they have become.

Rumour: Fernando Forestieri

I'm afraid this is a second-hand rumour and I can't provide a link.

My Dad is a Wednesday fan and he read today that Palace and Watford were both after Forestieri. Apparently he's had a training ground bust up and was left out at the weekend and with Wednesday being well-stocked with forwards my Dad reckons they're probably happy to sell.

From what I've seen of him he looks like a player that likes the ball to feet, so would probably fit the system.

Small MPVs

My Renault Grand Scenic is now ten years old, and beginning to cost me money, so it's time for a change. I've been looking at the Peugeot 3008, Nissan Qusqai, Ford B-Max etc. Any warnings or recommendations etc?

Electric Cars

I know there are couple of threads on this but these things change quickly so I thought a new thread might be in order.

I am thinking maybe a Nissan Leaf and I am thinking about a second hand one as a new one is just not affordable for me yet.

My work has the charging points but I do 60/70 mile a day so I need to think carefully if this will work for me. Saving myself 200 quid petrol a month and the obvious environmental benefits really appeal.

Also thinking a charge point at home is needed.

Appreciate the BBS thoughts on this pros/cons things to thin about etc?

Things that are mad (but not really mad)

I've sold an old golf bag on eBay, and I'm now trying to find a cardboard box to send it off in. It's quite a big bag, so a large box is required.

Some of the shops I've been into to ask don't actually give away their cardboard boxes any longer. A trade store I've just been into (rhymes with ShrewBix) said that they don't give them out due to health and safety reasons :D

What things do you find a bit crazy but aren't particularly going to change the outcome of the world?

Been thinking about de boer appointment and the way he sets his teams up.

Im sure parish said after pardew tried last year and failed that we tried to change team too quickly and wasn't suited to us, so in that sense de boer appointment is slightly baffling unless he was promised big funds.

When i look at our squad now it's pretty exciting, just be a shame to go to waste due to wrong system.

It seems we could be making same mistake again ( hope im wrong)

HOW LONG BEFORE YANKS CUT PARISH

Having worked for a few American Firms they all have one simple mindset to people they have in management - Hire & Fire as much as you want but if the hire & fires don't work we will fire you.
Given Parish's lamentable record in picking ( despite months of faffing around on due diligence etc) & keeping managers - on average one a year , as the bad ones - Burley Holloway,Colin, Pardew etc get fired whilst the good ones Pulis & BFS don't hang around for a minute longer than they have to ) it cannot be too long before the Yanks decide that having a little control freak in sole charge is not doing anything positive for their £100 million investment .If as looks likely another Parish failure ( Frank De Bore ) does not make the cut at some stage the Yanks will impose their greater shareholding and either force a change - or sell out to someone else who will themselves force a change. The Parish tenure in charge could end a lot sooner than most people imagine .

Poll: Close down General Chit Chat Forum

Baffled Bob and I have come to the agreement that if any subject whatsoever in the world doesn't directly affect you, you should ignore it and not post on the subject. Thus, for the most part that makes GCC largely redundant - other threads can be put in football, CCG, music etc.

To stop spats, political sniping from the same dull two camps, alleviate the mod workload, deter bigots, and stop anyone having any fun whatsoever (see faggotgate). We propose (and I think I speak for Baffled - although granted he might be a little confused on the points he makes with that username) asking Dave to shut down GCC permanently at the end of the month. That way the BBS can be more or less a pure football forum.

Please remember everyone your vote is important. And this might be the last time you are allowed to type an opinion.

I have put an emoji in to be inclusive with regard to Biggin.

Quite :p

Dougie Freedman anyone ?

We have run out of specialist escapologists , So Freedman might fit the bill given his defensive style of management .

Physically harming yourselves following Palace.

As yesterday again proves there is a lot of scope for mental anguish following our beloved team.

But lets have some stories of accidents that have happened to you over the years supporting the Palace. Accidents in bundles, seats etc.. Not getting ambushed by hoolies for example.

I'll start:

On one of the occasions playing Millwall at home I fractured my thumb. The neanderthalls were doing the usual trick of smashing up our seats and flinging them over to the Holmesdale. I was standing on the back row of the Holmesdale Uper and threw my hand up in disgust, connecting with the supporting metal bar that runs along the bag. My mates groaned inwardly as they knew that must have hurt.

Would you settle for 17th place right now?

If you were offered a 17th place finish right now, would you take it?

Suggestion: Danny Ward - Liverpool

Wales Online this morning report that goalkeeper Danny Ward is set for showdown talks with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, after he was left out of the club’s 18-man squad for the 3-3 draw with Watford.
*
Ward, 24, spent last season on loan at Huddersfield, helping the club to win promotion to the Premier League.
*
There was speculation that the Welshman would move to the club permanently this summer, but Klopp did not want to let him leave and assured Ward he had a future at Liverpool.
*
However, Ward may now push for a move away as he fears he will waste a season playing for Liverpool’s reserve team. To view the link you have to Register or Login

Nil - nil, and you F**KED IT UP 😁

Mighty Huddersfield Town, at home.
Zero points towards your forty, and Town knew it was a very winnable match.
Puny Palace pillocks!

Can we all chill out?

So many threads on here being so ultra negative after one game. I was as p*****d off watching the game as anyone but it's the first game. It was crap, we played crap. But there's some things to consider.

1. New systems take a while to gel. Even Chelsea running this same system didnt get going till October really.

2. We were clearly arrogant. Went in assuming we would win and got stung.

3. Theres still time left in the transfer window. The prices for players has been insane this year. People are holding out for stupid prices for players. That'll all come crashing down on deadline day and loads of much more fair deals will take place.

4. Fans need to have patience. Worst part of yesterday was the fans getting on the players backs when they were trying to play actual football. We went through a period of hoof ball I think in part because of the pressure the fans were putting on the players and lost what they wanted to do.

Worst managerial debut ever?

Hard to think of a worse one.

Jon Moss: Reasonable Discussion

No, he isn't the reason why we lost yesterday. I've just wanted to make this thread for a long time, purely to say:

**** you, Jon Moss, you fat useless lump. You utter waste of everyone's time. Just **** off and never come near this club again.

That goal kick he gave after a save from the Huddersfield keeper sums him up.

Worse than Clattenburg. Worst ref in the league and always has been.

COYP

Worst Opening Day Performances - In Your Opinion

So we all know yesterday's match wasn't the start to the season we hoped for but where does it rank in worse opening day defeats for Palace in your eyes?

Discuss below be it games we conceded goals for fur or just matches where we completely lost the plot!

In recent years the home opener in Luton sticks out. Although we didn't get smashed it was a game where palace were the far superior squad on paper; All ready to make a good run at promotion back to the premier league and the newly promoted boys ran us rampant. Except we didn't :grrr:

What are your personal tales of cpfc opening day woes?

Facist/Anti Facists in the USA today.

samedi 12 août 2017

This is a crazy story.

TBH I think it's probably a bit off insisting the statu is removed. Regardless of him owning slaves General Lee is seen as the leader of the Confederate South in a huge moment in US history. Why re-write history. Some would want Churchill's statue removed.

But open fighting with the police withdrawing and letting them get on with it and some idiot driving a car into protestors and killing at least one.

Worst home performance/result ever?

How does today rate for those that were there?

Before answering put the result in context. What were your aspirations and expectations before todays game? Look back at say Wimbledon tonking us and think that Wimbledon were a solid side that could do that sometimes. Look at the dead season tickets on the pitch under Alan Smith and think that that side was defeated before they stepped on the pitch. Losses to WBA and other non-performances. All the times we would be expecting to take the point only to do a 'typical Palace'.

Waiting all close season, enjoying a fair pre-season (albeit pointless in HK), full house, new manager, some exciting new young players, Zaha on a new long contract - what could go wrong? 0-3 and the embarrassment of the league - back to square one.

It could be the worst ever in that context for me. It makes me want to give up before the season has started, and very thankfully that I have classes at gametime atm.

match day experiance

The match day experience at Selhurst just gets worse by the year . Now I havent been in the Glaziers bar for a couple seasons but my god what have they done ? What was once a decent place for a pint is now a plastic soulless canteen selling almost undrinkable Lagers at a fiver a pint . Another fiver was handed over for a sausage in a bread roll, not even offered any onions .

No running water in the gents ,if it was an outside bar it would be shut down and certainly would have its food licence removed .

The seats in the upper rows are so close together my knees were painfully squashed against the seat in front ,I'm not even 6ft so would say anyone taller than that it would be a no go area .

The half time piss took most of half time , the toilets at the top of block C are nowhere near adequate for the number of people

Lessons learned ,
Don't go to the ground before the match , drink and eat at outside pubs and arrive at 5 to KO
Don't sit in the Old stand .

Todays substitutions ?

Made no effect on the game or to change the game

Townsend coming on was enforced and Tompkins coming on made no sense at all

Would it not have made more sense to get Schlupp on the pitch or go more attacking it seems there was no way to change our set up to try and get back in the game

What subs would you have made for the 2nd half ?

Disgraceful Disabled Facilities

Hi All,

I do not normally like to complain, however this time i have no option but too.

My Dad now has to use a wheel chair therefore we had to move to Holmesdale Disabled Section this season for the first time.

The facilities are terrible! It's first come first serve, and most of the views are blocked by Block A standing up the whole game.

Palace spent I'm sure lots of money over the summer on a new section which has terrible views of the pitch (right behind the portacabin) you can only see half the pitch! So guess what, no one used it...what a waste of money!

Then we had a water leak coming down on disabled fans and to top it all, NO seats for any of the careers of which I am one! I had to stand for 90 mins!

Then the new disabled area in the main stand is down the front with NO rain cover!

You wouldn't treat a dog like this! How on earth can Palace (a Prem club) be allowed to treat its disabled fans like this! My Dad has been a supporter for over 60 years and is seriously thinking about quitting because the facilities are so poor!

Steve Paris - if you do read this! Please please address these issues! This is not fair! And you may need a wheel chair one day too!

Rant over...

Went to my first game today- how do I get my refund?

In America is the team plays like *!#m we just go back to the gate and get refunds.

I couldn't figure it out today. Can someone help me get my refund? ;)

I laughed when some of you all said we'd lose to Huddersfield.

Looking for a 16/17 compilation

I know there's some clever peeps on the BBS who do a compilation of the season which are downloadable. I'd be chuffed to bits if anyone could help me out. It's for my 14 year old son and I to watch. After today's result it would be some light viewing :D

Sum up Palace video thread

I'll start :(

Player Ratings And Reviews: Huddersfield (H)

Hennessey - 4
Ward - 3
Fonsu-Mensah - 6
Dann - 4
Riedewald - 5
PVA - 4
Luka - 4
Puncheon - 3
Loftus-Cheek - 7
Zaha - 5
Benteke - 5

Townsend - 4
Tomkins - 4

Frank De Boer - 2

Ward and Puncheon clearly are not good enough. Loftus-Cheek is pure quality and was our best player in the second half by a distance, but starting him on the wing was a huge mistake.

We are about 4 players short of even being able to play De Boer's system, a system that may or may not even work.

DeBoer out

Don't mean it, just thought I'd get this started before someone else does.

Rumour: Jonathan Bamba

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are both interested in Jonathan Bamba, report L’Equipe in their Saturday edition. And both clubs sent representatives to scout the player last weekend.

Newcastle have been linked with Bamba all summer, and earlier in the window there was even talk of an offer arriving from St James’ Park. Werder Bremen were said to have bid €4m for the Saint Etienne player, but that didn’t get them anywhere close to a deal.

Atalanta have also been credited with interest in the player, at the end of July with Newcastle once again thrown in, but Crystal Palace haven’t been part of the chasing group.

As well as Newcastle and Crystal Palace, L’Equipe throw in AC Milan, FC Porto, and Sevilla. One would think that if any of these clubs really wanted Bamba, with the price estimated at €5m, then they’d already have him.

L’Equipe’s claim about the player’s contract may give a clue to what’s really going on here.

Bamba, 21 years of age, has a year left on his Saint Etienne contract, and isn’t against a renewal. However, he wants more money than has already been offered, and the situation drags on.

Interest from Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and all the other clubs is no doubt useful in negotiations.
