Not only the best film of that decade but of every decade.

Keep Calm

Thank god we we picked up so many points against big boys or we would be gone.

If anyone 4-5 weeks ago said we would be 6 points clear with 3 games left we would of laughed,

No point trying predict at this stage hence last few weeks for us will drive yourself mad, just enjoy the ride:D

Imagine how hull and swansea fans have felt with our big scalps recently.

Idiots throwing stuff at players

What was the point of throwing lighters and coins at Burnley Players yesterday?

Ok so Burnley scored and one or two of their players made a gesture towards block 'B' so what!

I am surprised this hasn't been mentioned already, maybe Tarkowski did over exaggerate the situation once it had happened but he was still hit by an object thrown from the terraces!

These sorts of episodes do nothing but bring negativity to our club, once again it originates from around block 'B' where a lot of good things are done but I am afraid some people also need to grow up!

Man City game in Weymouth

Heading down to Weymouth on Friday for a long weekend. Anyone know of a decent pub to watch the City game in?

Time for cool heads

The disappointment of yesterday has left us all a bit jittery but half of the reason that people are feeling quite so panicked is that the anxiety dripping off of each posters posts is fueling more like minded posting. I think that there are reasons to remain calm and positive going into the last few weeks.

Mitigation of yesterday's result

On its own, yesterday was poor by any measure. However, the effect of 3 games in 6 days and Luka being without his midfield partner really pushed it beyond us. The officiating was diabolocal too, but that is a separate issue. With the flurry of games out of the way, we can prepare for each of the last three properly. This will make a significant difference.

It is in our hands

We do not have to rely on others. We can make ourselves safe.

Points on the board are better than potential points

38 has been enough to survive for several years now. Of course it is possible that it won't be enough but Hull and Swansea have little to no margon for error now. That is tough.

Nerves affect everyone

One of the most bizarre assumptions on these boards is that we are the only ones who will get nervous / choke. Knowing that every goal against (Hull and Swansea) could be a goal that relegates them, the pressure is going to be on those sides every bit as much (if not more) as us.

The Sam's

We have a massive personality and experienced individual in our corner. The Sam's can give us a tangible edge.

Sunderland

I don't think that Sunderland are the automatic 3 points for Hull and Swansea that everyone is assuming. They're free from the pressure cooker a little now and mauly benefit from their opponents nerves / complacency. I have a feeling that they could yet have a big role to play in this.

The Mancs

They are both vulnerable and would alllow us to play our favoured and most effective game plan. Far more comfortable in these situations than like yesterday!

Laying to rest the ghost of Oldham

This shit need to stop being spoken about. SERIOUSLY. I feel like we laid that particular ghost to rest when we did to Huddersfield what Oldham did to us. Furthermore, every season since we got promoted has the 'Oldham' scenario been posited and each time it has not materialised.

What bet have you got with Palace and how much money would you take for a Palace rele

Sort of a bit of light hearted discussion given that it's completely hypothetical. I see many people have taken out a form of 'insurance' by softening the blown if we were to get relegated in terms of a bet. So how much would you forfeit in winnings to see us safe?

For instance, last week you could get 200/1 on us going down and if you were to put say £50 on that, you could potentially have winnings of £10'000. So basically what price would you take us being relegated to line your pocket?

Ps - I haven't placed any bet.

Junior Season Ticket

Need some advise please. I have purchased a junior season ticket for my Grandson for next season, if he can't attend for any reason can I upgrade his ticket to an adult ticket for the games he can't make.

A new way to play next season

New Gk
New RB Tomkins Sakho PVA
Zaha Luka Cabaye Townsend
Creative number 10/a pacey striker
Benteke

As we can never seem to break down the "smaller" teams we need to sign a creative midfielder who will break down the deep defence.

Or we need to sign a pacey striker and go 442 because Benteke is constantly isolated so even if he wins the header there is nobody to get the knock downs.

You might think that 442 is too attacking to play in some games but with Allardyce we'd be organised and still be defensive and cabaye and luka are capable to sit back and break up play as well as creating chances to go forward.

If we don't sign a striker we could always try Zaha upfront/in behind benteke because he's got the pace to trouble defences. He's also starting to get doubled up on out wide but if he was upfront defences wouldn't be able to double up because he'd be given a free role.

If remy wasn't injured we could've tried that this season so we need to sign someone like him (pacey and can finish) someone like Josh King but I imagine he'd be too expensive now

HF 'Way of Life' Banner

Noticed that yesterday and as fan of Quadrophenia could I ask if anybody has any pictures of it? I thought it was very cool.

159:

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Possession football

Just seen on the BBC that we had 63% possession, only beaten by 65% against Sunderland. Seeing that we can beat big clubs with minimal possession what is the solution? Surely you can't just give the ball to the oppo? (Although maybe Luka was trying it out a bit for their goal)

Rumour: Ryan Manning from QPR

Crystal Palace and Bournemouth are both interested in signing Queens Park Rangers midfielder Ryan Manning, 20.

The Premier League pair have both made enquiries for the left-footed midfielder, 20, who has burst onto the scene this season.
Manning was set to be released at the end of this season under former boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink but has become a first-team regular since catching Ian Holloway's eye late last year.
Holloway said: "I have had some wonderful players and, in my view, Ryan is up there with them. He is a special talent."

Sounds like the clown is talking the price up already.
Only from the Mirror though.

RIP Ueli Steck

Pushed the boundaries of mountaneering. Very sad. Seems to have passed away acclimatising on Nuptse yesterday.
Watched him give a great speech at the RGS a few years back.

Zaha and referees

samedi 29 avril 2017

It's actually getting ridiculous. Wilf gets kicked around all game, gets very few free kicks, opponents aren't sanctioned, then he gets booked for displaying some understandable dissent. People say Wilf needs to keep his head down more, but given the treatment he receives I think he's remarkably restrained.

There have been so many clear penalties on Wilf not given this season and last. It's like Steve Bruce and AJ all over again. Note Shearer thinks today's wasn't a penalty, but of course last week with Moses and Son, where there was no contact and Moses was falling before Son's lunge, was a clear pen with no debate needed.

It feels like more than just refereeing incompetence with Wilf. They are listening to twats like Shearer and pre-judging him rather than take decisions at face value. The referees are failing in their duty, and also costing us points.

Allardyce should make a fuss of the treatment Wilf gets, the lack of decisions and the lack of protection. Ideally in the press conference before the Hull game.

Scott Dann return?

Anyone happen to know if we have any chance of getting him back before the end of the season?

Has to be an improvement to today

Other than Wimbledon, hss there ever been a more one dimensional side than Palace?

I thought today was a microcosm of our season. We are so one dimensional it's utterly predictable.

Opposition managers coming to Selhurst must love it.

Double up on Wilf and Andros lads. See if we can nick an early goal.

Three points.

Thank you very much..........

Discuss.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Burnley home

Typical palace, we like to do it the hard way, feel a bit let down by the players today, it was imo the worst performance of the season, we had no midfield and it was a defensive horror show, we got owned by a side that hadnt won away all season, if Swansea win tomorrow then I feel staying up is nearly 50:50

Im not giving ratings but no-one deserved more than a 4

Hennessey- I think of him like I would when you have no goalkeeper left and you put a defender in goal, you basically keep the ball away from him because you know he might **** up a shot, the 3 attempts at saving the goals (inc the disallowed) reminded my the butterfield hatrick, just very amateur and clumbersome, he is the sort of weak link that gets you relegated and if we do go down it will be alot because of him imo
PVA - did ok defensively, thought he offered very little going forward, had a decent chance and skied his shot.
Delaney- absolutely finsihed and he knows it, he cant run, he cant jump, a horror show today, everytime the ball gets near him he just backs off and runs back to our area which means we are too stretched in midfield, we will struggle to get another point with him playing, seems a sulky bastard as well.
Kelly - Did better than Delaney but his lack or aerial power showed up tonight, imo just not commanding enough to be anything more than a backup.
Ward - To be fair to Ward he can defend and is ok in a backs to wall job but can offer anything more, how this guy can train everyday nearly for so many years and be so utterly diabolical on the ball astounds me, passes out of play multiple times every game, never seems on the same wavelength as the winger, when they want it short he punts it long and visa versa, it was his him that started the attack for their 2nd by heading it straight out of play.
McArthur - barely noticed he was playing tbh, fitness levels are terrible, expect more from him
Luka - Have a mare, gave away the ball in the leadup to the 2 goals and missed a sitter.
Puncheon- another nothing performance from him, too many this season, I know he is captain but im not sure why exactly he brings to the side, looks like going through the whole season without scoring which is quite an achievement.
Wilf - Tried his heart out, our only hope today tbh, I do agree with Graham Poll though in that he goes down too many times and the ref doesnt trust him, he needs to gets the refs onside, and I know he gets fouled alot but he also goes down under alot of fair challenges too.
Andros, another tryer but not his day, like to see him get a shot off or two
Benteke - lazy and static today, dont think Big Sam was that impressed either, against a packed defence you arent going to be able to stay still and get a free header, he needs to move more, get accross the near post for example.
Sam Allardyce- bad day at the office, looked very Pardew poor tactics, poor subs, dont understand why benteke went off, why not play Remy alongside him?

few points

Defending deep- If you are struggling to deal with the long ball the last thing you do is back off into our area where the knockdowns are dangerous we needed to shut them down higher up the pitch

Shooting, Why is our medium and long range shooting so bad compared to other sides? it always seems to be blasted high and wide, at home with teams defending deep it might be the best chance you have, we always looks so amateur in this regard

Long ball - Not a great idea to have 3 vs 2 in midfield and then bypass it, If you are playing long ball vs longball then the odds are in their favour with 2 upfront, If you are tired surely you try and keep the ball and run their legs a bit like teams do to us

Tiredness- I personally felt Sam has gone about this too much in the build up and maybe put a doubt in the players mind

Bobby Madley

Make no mistake, today we were disappointing.

But congratulations Bobbly Madley and officials, I can only conclude you made an absolute wedge from your bet.

Absolute disgraces.

Blitzer & Harris to sell stake in Palace?

vendredi 28 avril 2017

The Times is reporting today that Chinese marketing company Desports are considering making an offer to buy out our 2 American owners. Article says Parish wont sell his stake. Desports owns La Liga club Granada and an NBA team via which they know Harris & Blitzer.
Article does say it is not known if Harris & Blitzer want to sell or not.
No formal bid yet but intermediaries have approached the 2 Americans to sound them out.

Food and Drink Rules??!!!

I had some food in a box for my older lad on Wednesday. We'd been to Box Park but he didn't have time to meet us so I ordered extra to take in for him.

5 or 6 security / stewards surrounded me and made me throw it in the bin. When I got the hump and asked them why, the answer was that CPFC sell food in the ground so I shouldn't be bringing food in.

For a club that pays multiple players more than £120,000 a week - was it fair to make me throw his food in the bin so he had to buy a Palace burger?

Suggestion: Defoe again. Summer 2017 split from bumped thread, sigh...

Hopefully, he has a break clause when they get relegated or at least a minimal transfer fee clause in there as Townsend did. Would give us the option to play 4-4-2 at home and would be great back-up to Benteke while Wickham take his time to get back (which he probably will). His relationship with Allardyce should give us a heads -up on this one , particularly as Sam was the one who gave him the renewed contract at Sunderland, and therefore should know all the ins and outs.

Happy Ed Balls Day

Happy Ed Balls Day to one and all enjoy however you celebrate. :lux:

Anybody know if Ed has decided to stand somewhere this coming election ?

Mark Hughes

Went on to read the Swansea forum last night and found this:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Links to this article from Wales Online 'Mark Hughes: "It is important for Welsh football that Swansea City remain in the Premier League"
To view the link you have to Register or Login

He says “We’ve helped them in terms of what they’re hoping for from the games they’ve got left. I’m sure they’ll do everything they can to stay up.

“It’s important for Welsh football clearly if they can stay in the league. But they have to go out there and do it.”

Could never prove anything but Swansea fans saying he told his players to relax and Arnautovic looked relaxed when he took the pen... I know they've been on the beach for weeks, but their performance was dreadful and they have been picking up the odd point.

Oh Brighton slurp slurp you're the best

Quote:
Have you noticed that many Albion fans on this board have given credit where it is due and acknowledged Palace’s resurgence under Allardyce? Indeed, when Palace won promotion, a special thread was created on NSC, by the Mods, to enable fans of both clubs to exchange pleasantries, and on that thread Albion fans (grudgingly, of course, but it was done) congratulated Palace.

Compare that with the BBS, where not a single word of congratulation has been recorded. Rather, from that quarter, we have seen nothing but vile and bitter outpourings.

Albion’s promotion to the Premier League is the culmination of twenty years of rebuilding from scratch. Yes, the club has depended on the largesse of a single man, but that man is a lifelong Albion fan. Success has been achieved by capitalising on the chairman’s investment, not on the backs of creditors’ money. Yet all we hear from Palace is that Albion have “bought” promotion, that promotion has been achieved by indebtedness, and that, consequently, the achievement that is promotion to the top-flight has been shamefully tarnished.

I tell you what does tarnish a promotion. Leaving two administrations aside, an episode like Poogate tarnishes the reputation of a club, not just its on-field success. It was the reputation of the Albion that people at Palace, to the very top of its hierarchy, knowing the truth of the matter all along, were happy to see dragged through the mud. Once the truth came out, there was no apology from anyone at Crystal Palace and no corrective coverage from the media (which had been happy to make a story out of Poogate when it was believed that Palace had been wronged).

We were somehow remiss, apparently, in not massaging the needy insecurities of the average Brighton fans. Our mistake was to not acknowledge the fine effort of BHAFC to finally overcome the odds of cheating parachute payment and rich benefactor clubs and secure a place in the top flight. All coming in at a mere third of a billion pounds and crippling losses every year. A promotion that will perhaps not only bring their fans joy in terms of football itself, but one that might protect their proud record of staying within their self selected FFP guidelines, thereby protecting their right to condescend and chastise all and sundry.

Let's right these wrongs. Well done, classy Brighton, well done. Please ensure you leave your messages of 'right way congratulations' here.

Burnley Match in Berlin

I'm in Berlin for the weekend and would very much like to watch the game. If there are any Berlin based fans on here can you recommend somewhere worth going that will be showing the match? I'd rather not have to sit and watch it on BT sport app on my phone! Cheers

Relegation worries

For the people still worried.

just put £10 or £20 on us going down and a few thousand to soften the blow.

Ive just done £20 would get £2000 which i suppose would soften blow slightly.

I personally think ive just thrown £20 in bin,Hopefully i would of lost the money by sunday.

Judas Wright in today's Sun

Anyone read his comments in the interview with Tony McCoy?

He says that " Palace fans have a problem with me because they are jealous of my love of Arsenal" and "I will always be grateful for what they did for me but Arsenal is my favourite club"

It is a shame Wright did not admit Palace fans have a problem with him for kissing the badge and celebrating like a lunatic when scoring against us and calling us "w@nkers" during goal celebrations in the League Cup semi.

Those who sang his name at the Wembley Cup Final last year when he was parading around the pitch pre game for TV, should be embarrassed.

Don't really know much about him but heard his name a few times

Suggestion: Lukasz Skorupski

Highly rated Roma keeper on loan at Empoli but he's having a fantastic season. The problem is Roma have just signed a Brazilian keeper Allison for next season which means Skorupski might be available. Hes at a young age for a keeper at only 25 so plenty of room to develop.

I don't expect Sam to read the bbs and actually go "do you know that CharlieCPFC might get us into something here" but more to see if anyone else has seen much of him.

New MX5 vs Fiat 124 spider

Both look great. Think the new Mx5 is a big improvement, looks much more sporty. But think the Fiat spider tops it.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

Got this on pre order for tomorrow. Has anyone else ordered it? I had the original on the Wii U so sort of know what to expect. Was thinking maybe we could try and arrange some sort of BBS League type races or even battles if possible?

Love Mario Kart but no doubt I will have completed single player within a week. Apparently the battle mode is a lot better than the original thankfully. Loved battle mode on the old Mario Kart games especially N64.

No Sakho

Heard we're not signing Sakho anymore, how true is this?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Burnley at Home 29th April

This is going to be a tougher game than it should be on paper, not just because it's so Palace to give Burnely their first away win, but because their style is to keep very compact, defending in depth and then break very quickly and in numbers. They invite the opposition on and then hit them on the break. They also have Brady, a player we were linked to regularly and that's always a bad sign :(

A point is enough for them and they have no reason to take risks and so when they do come forward they won't leave gaps behind. This is just about the opposite of what we have been geared up for in recent weeks and successes. On top of that the bulk of the side is going to be k******** after 2 days rest vs their 5 days.

That means we are likely to have a lot of the ball and have to unpick a locked defence and spend a lot of time chasing back as they break. With Damo starting we lose something of our pace, positioning (I noticed last night that he often seemed to be a yard behind the rest of the defensive line which is dangerous) and distribution. Hopefully he will make one last effort and finish his time with us on a high because it hasn't been a great season for him. He has his chance now.

So team:

------------------- Hennessey

Ward -------- Kelly ------- Delaney ------- Schlupp

------------------ Milivoyevic

--------- Cabaye (if fit)----- Puncheon

Townsend ----------------------------------- Zaha

-------------------- Benteke

TBH I was tempted to play PVA at LB and push Schlupp forward onto the left wing and have Wilf share the match with him. Wilf was amazing at times but just looks a bit tired to me in the last 2 games - brilliant but tired. Not sure how his head would handle that though and so left it. I do think we have to avoid that collective second half tiredness because if I was Dyche I would be banking on that second half to nick a win. I would also swap Cabaye for Macca at HT too just to brighten us up unless Yo is in a real purple patch. We need one more big match from Benteke and hopefully this is it. We need to move on and focus on next season.

Malaga Car Hire recommendations

Can anyone recommend a decent, and not too expensive, car hire company in Malaga please? We've booked a villa near Ronda at the end of August for a couple of weeks so definitely need a car to get around, and don't want to get ripped off the same way Avis did a couple of years ago in Alicante (agent at the desk didn't speak brilliant English, my Spanish is practically non-existent & we ended up paying what we thought was a deposit for something, thinking we'd get a refund at the end but never actually getting one)

Parking Fine

So after leaving Norwich at 2.30pm yesterday and delays on the South Circular I didn't get to Selhurst until 7pm by which point the security was saying no to letting anyone into Sainsburys car park, I then spent some time driving round Selhurst trying to find a car parking space.

Cheeky little end of road spot on Edith Road, jobs a good'un, park up, watch the game come back and there is a ticket on my car for parking on the curb.

Either I am an idiot who has forgotten that is a parking offence, or I have completely missed a change in law.

4 hours 45 minutes driving to game, watching a pretty rubbish match, 3 hour 30 minute drive home and £65 (£130) fine later I am in a foul mood :veryangry:veryangry

Jon Moss

I know Battenberg is the no1 but Jon Moss is not far off.

He gets bullied by players from the bigger teams and majority of his decision leave supporters baffled. Surely there are better refs out there than this muppet

Academy Centre Backs

For those that follow the academy closely, do we have a gem we could bring in for the last few games?

Perhaps to do a Jim Cannon v Chelsea on Saturday. (And then play for us for the next fifteen years...)

season ticket rules

looking for some help/advise. (not sure if this is the right forum for it).

Next year with my next job and the travel required, I will likely need to miss 6-8 matches depending on fixtures schedule.

Does anyone know of any way I can work with the club to donate my seat to a local charity for matches I can't attend? I want to keep my season ticket and don't want my seat empty for multiple games.

Not looking to sell or make any money at all. Does palace have any relations with any local charity where i can donate the seat without risking losing my ticket.

April 2017 collage

... for your Palace scrap book

Cash out or not to cash out

I had a Liverpool Spurs Double, I have already cashed out my original £15 stake but now have a £73.54 cash out available with a potential return £471.37. I was going to run with it and see what happens during the game but I'm concerned BFS has said he's going to rest players. It would have been hard enough with a full team.

What do you all think.

So.... what has Sam done differently?

What an incredible turnaround from two months ago. We are half way through the top-of-the-table gauntlet to close out the season and seem to be the unstoppable force.

So, what is it that Sam has done differently than was done before? I see a couple new faces, the players seem to be working harder... but what specifically have been the changes he implemented to put us on this fine run?

Spurs game from a Spurs perspective..

Always like having a gander to see what the opponents are saying and what they think of us from a non red and blue perspective.

Anyhow, some quite reasoned posts by all accounts. Very little "we're gonna hit them for 5/6 which often you get on forums".

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Massive week coming up. Palace have turned the corner and have got some brilliant results of late.

The main reason for their turn in fortunes is Sakho. He's been immense, and will be fully rested as he's ineligible for the Liverpool game. Zaha and Townsend will cause us problems as well so we need to be on the ball defensively.

-------------

Liverpool result definitely helped cheer me up but does indicate how hard this game will be.

Saying that I work with a big Palace fan and he reiterated Sams comments about having to rotate Wednesday because he can't get the same intensity/performance out of them in such a short period.

We've had an extra days rest plus we know what our fitness levels are like so hopefully we are playing them at the right time.

I can see the logic is Sam taking a hit on this one so they can be 100% for Burnley at the weekend which is a much bigger more winnable game for them.

----------

This is such a tough game. Palace are all but safe, they aren't going down, but a win would take them to 41 points which is that line that all clubs aim for. They also can catch the likes of West Brom and finish 8th which would be some achievement for them this season. And it's at their place. Plus Chelsea will be 7 points clear by the time we play as Southampton have **** all to play for. The only thing that may help us is that we can still win the title as I think Everton are likely to take points of Chelsea and then anything can happen with a 1 or 2 point gap. Plus the players will want to put the FA cup game behind us and you can only do that with a win. So this is a massive test of mental strength for us.

POTY Evening 2017

lundi 24 avril 2017

Apologies if there's already a thread on this, I take it there is no POTY this year as I've not seen anything advertised?
Does anyone know any different?
I wonder when we'll see next year's kit designs?

Were Newcastle fans right?

It wasn't long ago that many on here stated that Newcastle fans were delusional in their hatred of Pardew and their respect for Townsend. We had pages on pages worried if we would be able to hang onto Pardew, and whether he was our best manager ever. We had pages on pages with negative opinions of Townsend, calling him overrated, lazy and ineffective. Well fast forward to the present and it seems that most Palace fans now have similar assessments as did the Newcastle fans.

While Newcastle fans (and fans of other teams) may be delusional about many things, I think it is important to remember that most people who post on football forums have some understanding of the sport, and when an entire club has a firm opinion of a player/manager, it may be worth giving it some credence. I firmly believe that a team's transfer record could be improved simply by read the forum's of other teams. I mean we think we have a very good understanding of every Palace player who has been here a few years, right? I believe in our collective intelligence than a professional scout who has watched a Palace player on a few occasions. It takes years to really understand the value of a player. .

We are absolutely flying right now, and long may it continue. Next year could be very exciting. :lux:

Wanted: Home kit, players fit, S/S UK S / EU M

I am looking to buy this years home kit, players fit, short sleeves, UK size S (Macron / EU size M). The club shop has sold out, both online & in the store at Selhurst. Ideally it should be in new condition or barely worn.

Perhaps somebody on here bought one & found that it didn't fit them.

I know its a bit of a long shot, but worth a try!

Full Stand Display V Hull

The HF are currently funding and designing a two tier Holmesdale display for the last home game of the season with Hull. These huge artworks are only possible with the help of the whole Palace fanbase so we ask that any who can spare a few quid throws it in the pot to send the boys off in style after what has been an incredible turnaround on and off the pitch. All donations welcome, we thank you for your generosity in advance.

Crystal Ball - Tottenham home

With little time between matches this week I thought I would get The Tottingham thread up and running asap.

Firstly Hugh FF's prediction is
Tossinghim 1-0 Benteke 25240
(Palace winning 1-0 that is)

Mine is
Palace 3 (Zaha 2, Townsend 1)
Tottingham 1 (Kane)
attendance 25,099

Is this the best run of form/ results in our history?

So am I overstating it?

Obviously I'm taking in to account the fact we are in the top teir so not really looking at Championship (or equivalent level or below).

The start of the 1990/91 season is the other contender for me.

But to take 19 points from 8 games in the top tier and considering the opponents we've faced, this must come very close?

We won 5 in a row under Pulis - also remarkable but the fixtures were a bit kinder and we had already seen some signs of improvement.

The 14/15 run-in was pretty special too

Liverpools new main stand

Please God we never get anything like that at Selhurst. About the only positive I can say about it was it kept the wind out. Fecking expensive silent windbreak though.

Great Managers

You have to admire they way Steve Parish stepped in and transformed our club from a situation of financial ruin to becoming a Premiership Team. He did it by getting the whole club to work as a team and improving the organisation.

You also now have to admire Sam Allardyce who ( although our final position in the Premier this season is not yet finalised) has similarly taken a Team of people that were struggling and got them working together and improving the organisation and beyond our wildest dreams, has shocked the pundits by beating three of the top Premier sides

Both Parish and Allardyce are obviously great Managers.

Suggested team and formation for: Spurs

Sam said there would be a lot of rotation Wed. Here is what i'd expect

Wayne
PvA Sakho Kelly Schlupp
Mcarthur Luka Flamini
Zaha Benteke Punch

Joel Ward

Always thought he has been a decent solid defender . Of course he is going to have difficult days against Premier League wingers , most full backs do . Just thought some of the comments on here lately have been way OTT .
He has been ever present this season , rarely gets injured and has been picked regularly by all recent managers . Yes we need someone to compete for his position next season , but in my opinion we will struggle to get a big improvement on him and as the saying goes - be wary what you wish for .

Queue here for humble pie

I didn't want Pardew to go.
I didn't want Allardyce, no way.
I hated the big wage - low impact of Townsend,Benteke
I thought Punch was done.
I was convinced we were doomed after Swansea at home.

Sometimes it's great to be wrong.

Happy St Goerges Day.

samedi 22 avril 2017

(from Henry V, spoken by King Henry)
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

Pubs in London for the Liverpool game?

Any decent pubs for tomorrows game? Looking for somewhere after the marathon with othe Palace fans.

Brighton fan in peace

Two distinct and contrasting memories: Going to my first away game as a young teenager to Selhurst Park in the early ‘80s which was both exciting and terrifying in that unique atmosphere of intimidation and violence that typified football at that time; and then watching last year’s REMF match between Palace and Brighton fans played in a spirit of fun, respect and a combined quest to support a worthwhile cause.

One of the above is a memory of a time gone by that is, in hindsight and thankfully, consigned largely to history whilst the other is one that seems to fit with the better world that we all now live in. More importantly ,the thought of one being perpetuated fills me with shame and sadness whilst the other with hope.

As a lifelong Brighton fan I hope the intense rivalry with Palace continues forever – on the pitch. But maybe it is time to look at the example set by those involved from both sets of fans with the annual REMF match and find, off the pitch, our common ground. Crystal Palace and Brighton are ‘proper’ football clubs with ‘proper’ fans and are in truth of a similar size. Neither will ever have the stature whether in terms of finances or history of Arsenal, Man City or Chelsea but if I were to share a beer with a Palace fan I know we would get on and talk ‘real football’, something that all the Chelsea fans I have ever met cannot. To fans of clubs like ours success is rare (and Palace certainly have the bragging rights over us in recent years) but all the more valued when it comes. Most of the time it’s about survival and competing with ‘the big boys’. Palace have excelled at this recently and despite my instinct as a Seagulls fan, I have genuinely enjoyed seeing a proper football club competing against and beating clubs with levels of resource that our clubs will only ever dream of.

Maybe, just maybe, it is the right time for Palace and Brighton fans to stand together and be proud of our footballing rivalry , but off the pitch be proud that we stand in the way of Chelsea and others who would love to buy every fan in South London, Surrey, Sussex and beyond for themselves.

Of course most Brighton and Palace fans have long moved with the times. The key board warriors (on both sides) that perpetuate hate would run a mile if they accidentally actually said what they wrote to someone’s face! Those (again on both sides) that still actually play handbags in the street are mostly sad dinosaurs of a time gone by and are old enough now to know better.

Next season the rivalry gets going again and for me, and perhaps all genuine fans, it will be all about two games of football. It could be about so much more though – not violence and hatred but about mutual respect and friendship. Impossible? Trust me, when I saw lumps of concrete being thrown between the fans at that first away game, I would have said Palace and Brighton fans coming together for REMF was impossible.

It wasn’t.

Suggestion: John Ruddy

vendredi 21 avril 2017

Just watching Norwich v Brighton (for reasons unknown), and it occurred to me that John Ruddy may be an option, if Speroni and Mandanda both leave. 30 years old, which isnt ancient for a keeper, plenty of experience, and probably (relatively) cheap as Norwich arent going anywhere, so they won't try too hard to stand in his way.

If we do stay up, the priorities will be keeping Zaha and buying Sakho, so we have to be reasonably financially savvy when bolstering the other areas. Ruddy might be worth considering?

Rumour: Jay Rodriguez

Quote:

Crystal Palace are weighing up a summer move for Jay Rodriguez.

The Southampton forward could be allowed to move on after falling down the pecking order at St Mary’s.

Manolo Gabbiadini’s January arrival and brilliant impact have further hindered Rodriguez’s hopes of regular football under Saints boss Claude Puel.

Rodriguez was already battling Charlie Austin and Shane Long for game time.

Palace are now monitoring Rodriguez and are ready to fight long-term admirers West Brom to hand him a new Premier League challenge providing they stay up.

I realise the HF drum sharply divides opinion but, like it or hate it, I for one would like to congratulate the drummer. Having worked with a few down the years(!), I'd say the guy is very, very good both technically and rhythmically.

People criticise the lads for relying on the drum, but I honestly think that if it disappeared we'd miss the contribution it makes in driving on the racket we produce at Selhurst.

You get to change in the proper dressing room, get a kit to keep, warm up on the pitch and there is a chat at the end of the game with a motm on each team award. Get full use of everything the players can utilise.

Anyhow I've injured myself and need someone to take my place for the morning game. I can't get a refund unless someone takes my place.

It is to play centre forward in Clinton's team against Salako.

Cost £249, so may be good for a bday present or just treat yourself to an day you will never forget.

Do what’s best for Britain!

Support the country’s biggest tactical voting drive ever and stop Extreme Brexit

The general election is on 8 June.

We are launching a tactical vote campaign, aiming to ensure the final vote on the Brexit deal is a real one; one that is best for Britain.

We need to prevent MPs and the people being forced into an Extreme Brexit that is not in Britain’s best interests.

We will support candidates who campaign for a real final vote on Brexit, including rejecting any deal that leaves Britain worse off.

Who are we?
We are a group of campaigners and public-minded people who are crowdfunding to get people to use their vote tactically. *

How will we spend the money?
We will use the money to back candidates who pledge to support a full and free vote on the Brexit deal. We will also work with organisations with the same goals. The money raised will not pay staff salaries.*

What will we do?
We will:
- Support parliamentary candidates who commit to keeping the options open for the British people.
- Fight to make the Brexit deal process transparent, honest and democratic.
- Tour marginal seats to make sure the next Government has no mandate to destroy our rights and our relationship with Europe.
*
The future of our country is in the people’s hands.

Time is short: we have just a few weeks to raise this money and fight for Britain’s best interests.*

Together we can help deliver the most significant tactical vote this country has ever seen.

Car rental advice

jeudi 20 avril 2017

Hi all. Looking at car rentals for the annual family U.K. visit this summer. A couple of companies I've never heard of (Fox, Advantage, Easirent) are half price compared to those I have heard of (Enterprise, Avis). Looking for feedback if there's any risk taking the cheaper option (oversold, bad customer service, unsafe vehicles, etc.)?

Policeman and attacker killed in Paris gun battle

One policeman has been shot dead and a second wounded in central Paris, French police say, with reports that a gunman was later killed.
The Champs Elysees, where the shooting occurred, was sealed off. Reports suggest a single gunman fired on a police patrol.
It happened as candidates made their last pitches in a TV appearance before Sunday's presidential election. An anti-terrorist investigation has been launched."On the face of it, the officers were deliberately targeted," interior ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet told France's BFMTV news channel.

Toilets: Without larger, fully equipped toilets, known as 'changing places' toilets - Bournemouth, Burnley, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Hull, Middlesbrough, Stoke, Sunderland, Swansea, Tottenham, Watford, West Brom

Information: Not publishing access statements to give disabled fans information about their ground - Burnley, Crystal Palace, Hull, Man Utd, Middlesbrough, Stoke, West Ham

Match Updates: European matches 19th/20th April 2017

Two fascinating matches again tonight:

Barcelona V Juventus (agg 0-3)
Monaco V Borussia Dortmund (agg 3-2)

Will Barcelona do a remontada 2? It'll be tougher against Juventus, but if they score early and get some refereeing decisions going their way , who knows?

There should also be goals in the tie at Monaco with two teams who enjoy playing attacking football. I've got nothing against Monaco, so I'm hoping they go through. Looking forward to watching Mbappé again who is something special at the ripe old age of 18!

Dragons Den

Steve Parish has joined Dragons Den

Suggestion: Jack Wilshere (Summer 2017)

So, whilst a new contract for Wilf should - and will be - top priority, and signing Sakho should be right up there, my number 1 transfer target for us in the summer would be Jack Wilshere.

If you look at our current midfield, Puncheon is approx 30 and the pace has gone, Cabaye is over 30 and not one for the future, McArthur is often injured and then other than Luka there's no-one else. So we badly need a centre mid. With it looking likely that Wenger will stay, and his preference for other midfielders there may be a chance of not only a loan move (although I'd take that as well) but also a permanent transfer. Jack is out of favour with Bournemouth and the media and needs a fresh start. He was played as a holding mid by Hodgson, which is not his position. He was played as an attacking mid by Eddie Howe and I don't think that's his best position either. He has played his best as a box-to-box midfielder alongside a destroyer.

And that would suit us perfectly, to play alongside Luka. He's 25, he's proven his fitness this season and could play left side centre mid alongside Milovojevic for years to come. He wouldn't have the same pressure on his shoulders here as he would at Arsenal. And we have better attacking players than Bournemouth to take the brunt of the attacking work. The talent is still there, and we have a realistic chance of getting him, as his star has waned at Bournemouth. Thoughts?

Get the 2010 Survival Team Back for the Hull Game

Having just watched the centenary DVD again, I can't help but think that the team that not only kept us up but provided us with the backbone for exponential growth should be presented to us again again collectively in celebration.

The media are going mad over Brighton's rise in "just 20 years" to the Prem but what we achieved is just as admirable and I'd love for it to be celebrated from the very root.

Yes I've had a bevvie or two tonight, but this would be an epic moment if we could make this happen in front of a sold out Selhurst Park!

Laptop advice

Hey guys,

Looking to buy a laptop for a family member for as cheap as possible.

They write a lot (doesn't overly matter if it's Word or Open Office or whatever), and use the internet a lot. That's basically all they need - a decent writing experience, and the ability to be online with multiple tabs open and no real slowdown.

Chromebooks are very cheap, but not being computer savvy, I've no idea if they fit the bill.

All advice and opinions welcomed.

Cheers.

Will Brighton Introduce The Half and Half Shirt.

The introduction of the half and half shirt could be a real winner for Brighton's fans who support two clubs and they could then show their allegiance as to who they are supporting when Brighton are playing against the team that they really support.

What a great idea as it would go well with their half and half scarves.

A lot of people say they won't vote for Corbyn or I've seen on other social media people say they're Labour supporters but would rather a Tory government than a Corbyn government.

I'm just curious if you wouldn't or are unlikely to vote for Corbyn, apart from being a tory, why wouldn't you vote for Corbyn?

Why will the Tories win ?

Lets face it they will win , What are the reasons why ? It can't just be due to Corbyn it runs deeper than that .

Personally I think it's because of the Momentum loons and their Anti-Brexit mob trying to scupper brexit by using the party as a Trojan horse for extremists .
The Tories are honouring the vote so have a huge lead .

Entry after kick off

Hi

Does anyone know what the policy for entry is if you turn up way after kick off. I'm a season ticket holder getting back from a biz trip abroad for the spurs game but can't imagine getting there until 830-845. Would I be able to get in at half time even? Or will the machines for scanning your ticket at the turnstiles be off by then?

Thanks for anyone's help on this or has experienced this before!

Kingstonian itracking Palace.

Both clubs were in administration together and not for the first time they have both been in a dogfight together this season. Today I watched them beat Merstham 1-nil away converting a penalty and then missing a stack of chances. In the end though Rob Tolfrey saved a penalty for them late on preserving the lead and seeing them to safety (may be the biggest save of his life) and I happened to be chatting to his Mum at the time!
Not that I hope Hennessy has to save a penalty to keep us up but I hope this is a good omen for us

Help.... Please!!

Hi all,
On Sunday my younger brother and I will be running our first (and most likely last) London Marathon in memory of our dad who passed away from Pulmonary Hypertension.
Pulmonary Hypertension is a serious condition where your body cannot circulate good oxygen to the vital organs. Your body will work harder and harder to circulate this oxygen but gradually wears itself down. This rare disease can happen to any one at any time.

We are quite close to our target but need some help to reach it, if anyone could spare a couple of quid we would be forever greatful.

Whatever Happened to Billy Shears?

My follow-up to Rattles & Rosettes, Whatever Happened to Billy Shears? is published on Thursday (20 April). As many of you will know from the Rattles & Rosettes thread, in 2014 I sent a draft copy of R&R to James Mitchell, whom I had never met, for an objective review. He failed to read it until the actual book came out. He then devoured it in a day and published a review that resulted in literally hundreds of sales, for which I am very grateful.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

I have taken a similar approach and asked for volunteers, unknown to me personally, to read Whatever Happened to Billy Shears? and offer a review on this thread. The first of these is in the next post, from the legend that is Hy Money. I have never met our favourite sports snapper in all these years but look forward to doing so. Other reviews, from BBS members, will follow in due course.

I have yet to hear whether the Palace club shop will stock the book. It is available from Amazon, however, and can be ordered from most good bookshops from Thursday.

The story
Whatever Happened to Billy Shears? picks up where the Beatles left the characters on Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. We discover Billy, Lucy, Mr Kite, the Hendersons, Lovely Rita, even Henry the (rocking) horse, lived in the same South Croydon street in 1967 and the songs on Pepper hint at what happened next, if only we had taken more notice.

Canon William ‘Shears’ Shearwater, is now a 60-something Anglican chaplain and Palace fan, who doesn’t subscribe to the well-worn myth about the 60s. He was there and remembers them all too well, in particular the lovely Lucy Pitcher who turned his quiet suburban world upside down with one handstand. As he secretly confesses all to his computer, English teacher Sophie Daggert is documenting her slow recovery from bereavement. Adopted at birth, she embarks on a search for her natural parents. A series of twists and turns bring Sophie and Shears together in a shocking journey of self-discovery – with a little help from a few friends.

Should we rotate a bit for the next few games?

Obviously we still don't know how many points will keep us up, that probably depends on Swansea and Hull. However, it still looks like we need to find a few more points to secure safety.

When you look at our fixtures, we obviously have four very tough fixtures left, and avoiding a high pressure fixture against a direct rival would also be a very good idea - if we are both still fighting to for survival, the Hull fixture could be a very dangerous fixture in my opinion.

Therefore Burnley at home looks like a game we should be targeting to get 3 more points, which MIGHT secure survival. My worry about that is it will be our 3rd game in 6 days!! By the time we meet each other, we will have already played twice since Burnley's last match.

So, as the thread title asks, should we look to rotate some of the squad? Liverpool away, particularly without Sakho (or Dann... and probably Tomkins), looks like a very likely defeat to me. Spurs are in awesome form, so again a defeat is the most likely result. I'm not suggesting we completely throw the towel in for those games, but should we hold something back for Burnley, as it could still be an absolutely vital match? Losing it due to exhaustion (which was a factor at home to Swansea) could be a massive mistake.

2017 POTY Awards

Does anyone have an idea when this is happening? We are now in the middle of April with the season ending five weeks today whth it taking place before the final day and I don't think we have heard anything. Usually we have heard when it will be taking place and tickets are on sale by now either by the venue or the Palace ticket office.

I'm also assuming it will be in Leicester Square like last year or somewhere else in Central London as even if the club wanted it Bromley or Croydon I can't think of anywhere suitable now the Fairfield Halls have closed. I did also find it a good event to attend short before the FA Cup Final.

Once it has been announced when it's happening then we can discuss who we feel it should be the player of the year.

We're Raising Money for Croydon's Tram Victims and The REMF

Hello all.

At the last REMF game, we asked AJ and Shaun Derry to sign some items so that we could auction them for charity. We have decided to split the proceeds between the REMF and the Croydon Tram Victim Fund.

You can read more about it here:

The key points are that we're hosting the auction on Twitter, and you must use the hashtags for the items when bidding.

Both causes are fantastic, community-lead initiatives. We hope they raise good money :)

Respect the point

Normally ten wins is enough to stay in this league

There are five teams who have won ten matches but we have the least amount of draws of them so we are still not yet safe

Only Swansea and chelsea have drawn fewer than us so far

Yesterday's point was great because we have edged nearer to safety

I hated how Pardew the gambler threw away so many points from drawing positions eg against liverpool burnley man city man utd the list goes on

I hope now this is a start of a long period with allardyce in which we respect the point

Three more draws in the next three matches would be brilliant

A second big screen please Palace

Few things are more frustrating than being able to hear the soundtrack to Palace performances blasting out in the family stand but being the only people in the ground unable to see what's going on on the screen. With a lot of the next generation of Palace fans sitting in the Whitehorse End it would be nice if they were able to see a bit of palace history, whether its Don Rogers scoring the fifth against man U way back when or the famous victory from Monday night. Surely not too much to ask to have a conveniently placed second screen either above the Arthur or the Main Stand?

Left Back/Souare

Schlupp and PVA were huge buys and have massively helpedbalance the squad.

However...
Not convinced by either of them defensively.
Better players than souare? Not sure.

How much PL windfall will classy Brighton give back to Bloom?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

In the words of Paul Barber: “We are working to get back in the black which would be for the first time in our history and give some money back to the owner.”

They've been in debt their entire history? Difficult to believe a club so reknowned for doing things the right way could have been in debt for its entire existence, but I'm not going to argue.

Anyway, I'm confident Brighton's fans would be very uncomfortable at the thought of the club going all out for big signings in the knowledge that this is their benefactor's first chance in years (and maybe last chance for years) to claw back a sizeable chunk of his investment.

How much of his own money are Barber and the fans going to let him have back?

Brighton fans - if Barber reneges on his promise and come the first game a bunch of unrecognisable, expensive, injury prone Spaniards who one may or may not have one time played in the Champions League run out, will you feel pangs of guilt and shame, or merely enthusiastically clack from beneath your sombreros?
