making clean sheets the focus for our team is laughable. Allardyce has come in and got the team to play to its weaknesses and not its strengths and then wonders why the message is taking so long to get through........the reason why we can't keep clean sheets is that our back 5 is and has not been good enough for 18 months.....no matter how much midfield protection you provide if there is no natural pace, aerial strength, focus, organisation, leadership or bravery then we will always conceded goals.......
Even if a miracle happened and we kept 13 clean sheets on the trot with our current goal to game ratio we still would not amass enough points to stay up this year.....even at Sunderland where SA was hugely praised for keeping Sunderland up his team only managed 7 clean sheets out of 30 attempts......not exactly a ringing edorsement of a defensive stronghold......and don't forget after Sam arrived the black cats suffered some really heavy defeats conceding 6 and 4 in games .....add to that stat that Sundeland only started to look to have a chance of survival when Fletcher got injured and SA had no choice but to play Defoe who's goals were the real reason for survival not the myth of clean sheets.........
This team of ours is best when on the front foot looking to take the game to the opposition.......of course we need to be disciplined and organised but in all areas not just at the back...we must not continue to worry about the opposition scoring but focus more on how we can hurt them.....only then if we go a goal down will the team have the belief that we can still get points from each of the 13 games remaining.
