He was the guitarist who didn't fly with Buddy Holly on the day of that fateful airplane crash back in 1959. He flipped a coin with Ritchie Valens, and Ritchie won, or lost so to speak, and went in his stead along with The Big Bopper.
The day the music died, but Tommy went on to do other great stuff and lived until this week at the age of 85.
