Matchday experience costing us points?

mardi 3 janvier 2017

Off the field I've noticed a few subtle, or seemingly subtle factors that I reckon have a cumulative effect on the feeling inside the ground - I certainly think these can over time contribute to a failure to deliver on the pitch.

It depends where you sit, but from reading several posts on here, across multiple threads, there is an acknowledgement that the club have been tinkering with the matchday format/structure.

They moved out a Palace fan Mike from being stadium announcer, now he wasn't perfect and could be a bit cheesy, but there was value in having a fan doing this job. No ill feeling towards the new lad who has stepped in, but he's a young guy who has brought in because he's an actor, who's working doing jobs like this before, but he's not a Palace fan and seems hesitant because of this. As a result, just before the biggest of the season, when you really need the crowd fired up, you have a guy who doesn't sound comfortable addressing 24,000 people.

In the Arthur the PA has been chopped and changed around so much, can you ever remember going to Palace and experiencing such a tepid rendition of Glad All Over as I did tonight?? Even people around me who would always sing it barely notice it happening anymore!! Forget the lights, that's a mathday tradition that can really make a difference to get the fans up for the game from the off. I'm surprised the club have managed to make it worse, it's not that complicated right?

I know there will be replies along the lines of "players need to give us something to cheer", "its been bad on the pitch for so long" etc etc - totally agree, but just really think the club are shooting themselves in the foot with these really badly handled changes, trying to make Selhurst into something it isn't on a matchday. Keep it raw, authentic and passionate.

As for the lights, it's torture enough watching the team, let alone sitting in the direct line of what feels like a Guantanamo Bay style interrogation tactic of full beam bulbs, still, must look "classy" (football buzz word) on television.

Eagles.
