Enough of the t-shirt throwing!

It's almost as if the off the pitch 'entertainment' has fallen into line with the on the field at the moment. The rubbish light show, the announcer who might have gone to acting school but shouldn't be playing a part in the Palace show, and the pointless and relentless throwing of t shirts into the crowd at EVERY home game.

Now, I am all for little added extras that actually add value, but, having been 'fortunate' enough to catch one of the t shirts for my 8 year old when they used to be fired rather than thrown lamely into the crowd, I can honestly say that they are a total waste of effort on behalf of the club. Why? Because they are just cheap white shirts with the word 'Palace' printed in a random typeface in black. There is no sense of branding or keepsake value to them whatsoever and it has now got to the stage where the girls just walk round at halftime lobbing them lamely into a largely disinterested crowd who have long since regarded the gesture as having no novelty value whatsoever.

If the idea is one of the Americanisms the new investors have brought with them fine, but they may like to recall that at places like Yankees and Mets games, the giveaways are branded and have some retention value i.e. you might want to actually wear the cap or carry the bag or put the fixture magnet on your fridge. I doubt however, that I will ever see anyone in a thrown into the crowd Palace t shirt and exchange a knowing glance that we have both had a matchday experience to remember. In short, change the record Palace, or the t-shirt. Maybe do something a bit more special every 4th home game or maybe nothing at all?
