I could have put this as a response in any number of threads but have decided to start a new one.
I'm normally one of the biggest doom mongers there is and last night I went to bed and didn't sleep but this morning I've woken up with a fresh perspective.
Sam has been here for 11 days - he couldn't realistically impact Watford but it was clear that we were more up for that game than others and should have won. Arsenal were very good and while we were disappointing we don't expect points there. Yesterday was a six pointer and we lost.
Sam blamed tiredness yesterday - now that's an easy excuse but to be honest it's not one I think he'd use as the players haven't earned excuses from him yet. He's a numbers guy and the players are monitored, he'd have raw data in front of him telling him that the players weren't reaching their usual top speeds and distances for the same heart rate etc. Ok we only had a day less rest than Swansea but they only played for the first 20 minutes vs AFCB and we chased Arsenal around for 90 minutes. Don't forget we've also had 3 solid penalties turned down in these games so that doesn't help.
However we now have a 10 day period (skip the cup this year thanks) where Sam can actually work with the players on fitness, shape and tactics. We need to give him the chance to do something as the next 2 months define our season - still in 17th going into the last few and we're in trouble. Yes we'll miss Wilf and Benteke but we need to still fight.
Let's put a line through the first 20 games and say our season starts again now - we just need to be better over 18 games than the same 3 teams we've outscored this season so far.
If we remain as toxic as things currently are we'll be down, our best few players will be gone and we'll be midtable championship at best so we need to fix it now.
