Strongest team?

--------Luka--Cabaye-McArthur-------

?

Passion of the Christ.......ian

Saw this photo posted somewhere else and thought it deserved it's own thread. Hopefully put the doubters back in their place

Who makes up the 25 in the squad now?

At a guess:

Speroni
Hennessey
Mandanda

Ward
Kelly
Sakho
Delaney
Dann
Tomkins
Van Aanholt
Fryers

McArthur
Milivojevic
Cabaye
Ledley
Flamini

Puncheon
Townsend
Schlupp
Zaha
Lee
Sako

Benteke
Remy
Campbell

That looks a lot more balanced! I've left out the unfortunate Souare and Wickham, and Mutch has gone out on loan. Presumably KaiKai also still qualifies on age.

Have I missed anyone?

Subs: Mandanda Delaney Townsend Remy Schlupp Puncheon

Faced this team:

Speroni
Ward-Gabbidon-Delaney-Moxey
Dikgacoi-Garvan-Jedinak-Dobbie
Gayle-Wilbraham

Subs: Alexander Marange Campana O'Keefe Williams Phillips Chamakh

Suggestion: Hayley McQueen

Team for Saturday vs Sunderland

Maybe a difficult one to predict? Assuming Sakho joins on loan, we could have a new look to the back line...

I hope we have finally reached a turning point and will see more clean sheets in coming weeks. The next four fixtures are very winnable, and could be the decider in us staying up this season.

Townsend put in a good performance today, and showed class on the ball to assist for Tekkers, who had a great match. It is looking exciting for Saturday now.

---- ------Hennessey

Ward - Tomkins - Sakho - v.Aanholt

-----------Milivojevic

-------McArthur - Cabaye

Zaha ---- -------------- Townsend

-----------Benteke

last minute self assessment advice needed

Not only does the transfer window slam shut tonight but so does self assessment deadline.
I know i shouldnt have done but I've left it a bit late.
Submitted the self assessment a few days ago. The calculation shows how much I owe. However the calculation says it doesn't take into account previous payments on account.
When I go to the payment section I get the message "No tax is due at the moment"
So - anyone with real knowledge (not just "well i think you should...") am i going to be alright paying nothing at the moment?
I haven't had any notifications that i should pay.
I know in the past they didn't penalise you for late payment as long as it is by end of Feb, but not sure if that still applies

Rumour: Martin Kelly

Apparently WBA considering a move

Quote:

Report: West Brom want Crystal Palace's Martin Kelly; he'd suit Tony Pulis

West Brom boss Tony Pulis is interested in adding Crystal Palace defender Martin Kelly to his squad in the final hours of the January transfer window, the Tamworth Herald reports.

The Baggies have been linked with a number of marquee signings throughout the month with the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Ashley Young reportedly on their radar as the window prepares to slam shut at midnight.

And the Tamworth Herald reports that Pulis has identified Crystal Palace defender Kelly as another potential target as he aims to maintain West Brom’s excellent early season form in the second half of the campaign.

The 26-year-old former Liverpool defender has struggled to nail down a starting place at Selhurst Park, often being forced to play in an unfamiliar left-back role.

Kelly, after all, is not a naturally modern full-back renowned for his lung-busting darts down the wing or pinpoint deliveries into the box. Instead, he made his name at Liverpool as a tough-tackling, versatile all-round defender.

Therefore, these skills would certainly be more valued at The Hawthorns, where Pulis prefers his full-backs to contribute to an organised, narrow back four rather than offer a relentless threat down the flanks.

Discussion: Can we really afford all these signings

I am really surprised how we seem to be linked with every signing even after signing Schlupp and PVA and most likely Luca Milivojevic. That is around £35m up front plus fairly high wages.

Now, there is a lot of talk about Sakho for around £20m.

With already high wages for likes of Cabaye and Benteke ...I am surprised we have the money for all this especially as not long ago, CPFC was indicating that Financial Fair Play was a constraint on bringing in new signings. What has changed ?

We seem to going for broke in the same way as QPR a few years back. Judging by last 3-4 games playing a lot worse than last few matches under Pardew (Still letting in goals but have now even stopped scoring)

If we stay up, it might all be worth it. But if we go down, we are looking at a massive financial problem, even taking into account parachute payments.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Why did we bother with pre season?

Well judging by the rotten season's form so far - waste of time. By the end of the transfer window our first XI will look very different from that against WBA in August. Let's hope the last 16 games show us "doing a Leicester from 2014/15's run in".

Rumour: Lee Chung-Yong Departing

Sky Sports say that he could be leaving tomorrow.
Brighton, Villa, Swansea, Burnley and Fulham all interested

Discussion: Outgoings...

So I see from the Caceres thread that the squad will need players leaving so we can name a 25 man squad.
With only Lee rumoured to be going out, is this not a little worrying?

What are the ramifications if we have too many squad members here after the window closes?

Abuse Scandal

All five London clubs including Palace caught up in historic sex abuse scandal apparently!

Breaking on SSN.

Rumour: Kara Mbodji

Mentioned in today's press conference and Big Sam was certainly not saying no. Leicester favourites to get him according to several papers. Can play defensive midfield or centre back. Hopefully our French contingent swing it.

We were rumoured to be after him 2 years ago.

Pubs in Central London showing the Bournemouth game

Does anyone know of any pubs in Central London that are planning to show the Bournemouth game tomorrow?

I used to frequent the Famous 3 Kings in West Ken but they no longer advertise non-Sky/BT Sport matches. I don't know if that's just their policy now or if they no longer show that type of game. Anyway, suggestions or ideas would be welcome. Thanks.

Rule 12

Who'd be a referee?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Ridiculous amount of discretion allowed resulting in a myriad of decisions for the same offence (as well as non application of loads of offences).

Schlupp and PVA

I know that it is not easy to sign players in January, especially threatened with relegation, but a reported £26m on two players that are basically the same type of player? Both Sunderland fans and Leicester fans think that neither are good left backs, but on their day they are both good as left sided attacking midfielders. So with Papa back, who in my opinion shows his best football also when attacking, where would they all fit in?

I'm tired of all of this negativity. We are gonna smash Bournemouth

4-0 Bournemouth aren't gonna know what hit 'em! Townsend and Zaha are gonna zip past them and Bentekkers is gonna smash headers in left and right. I'm so damn tired of feeling like crap each week and watching us tear our fellow fans apart. Let's do it for the RED AND GODDAMN BLUE!!!!

Strange one.

Strange one this was.............at the Derby v Leicester fa cup game on Friday.....this idiot climbed out the Away fans disabled section wearing an Arsenal shirt and suddenly invaded the pitch running the length of the pitch and across the goalmouth before slipping over and being grabbed by stewards................but,he was someones carer, the person he left in the disabled section was pretty confused on how to get home so a couple of Leicester took him home after the game...........not sure as to where but it was a strange one.

Suggestion: Asmir Begovic

Bournemouth closing in apparently. Not sure what's going on with Mandanda, but surely this is one we should be busting a gut to get? Premier League ready and only 29. Would make a massive difference.

New Computer - reading old Program Disks?

I just got a new computer and went to load an old Family Tree Maker program disk (circa 2005) so I can access years of work on making a family tree.

The disk appears to just sit there after a few spins and nothing happens. There is no evidence that there is even a disk in that specific drive.

Google has not been any help so I turn to the good ship BBS... Am I SOL?

I would upgrade, but the company that produced this software appears to have been gobbled up by Ancestry.com. I guess if this is a no go, I will have to see if they are compatible.

Cheers for any help re reading old disk... I have a few more like this.

In support of Parish

Gutting for the greatest fans in the land to have to endure 14 moths of abject shite form.....but I'm also gutted for Parish who must be feeling this pain as much as any of us.
I have no doubt that many of the confusing decisions being made at the moment around the structure, culture and the players sought have been influenced understandably perhaps by the Americans and the need for them to protect their investments.....rather than decision that may have been made if all was well by SP.
I suspect that the appointment of SA was not one that SP would have done without any outside influence.....an ex England manger with a high profile would I have no doubt appeal to our American investors.
SP loyalty to AP has to be questioned but only in so much that he probably waited too long to find the right manager to take this club forward regarydless of the outcome this season BS is not for me and will I doubt very much will leave this club in a better position in the league pyramid than when he arrived.
His style of football is also not for me...his defence first culture is why so many foreign managers are sought over English managers....and crucially unlike both The Swansea and Hull appointments who Ensured that their managers would continue to build on the teams strengths while working at the same time on the areas in need of development Big Sam in his arrogance has decided he knows best and has therefore decided to totally disregard all the good that was done by the previous hierarchy....for me this decision to rip up plan A with less than half a season left and a plan that is wholly unsuited to the players at the club will be the most complelling reason we may go down....

Coming to my beloved club in England against Boro

Hi there fellow palace fans :)

I am coming to see my 4 palace game 25 febuary against boro. Now I am sitting in Arthur Wait.

My name is Gunnar Ingibergsson on facebook :)

Palace forever :lux:

Article today:"Teams that defend win "

Great article in today's paper by Norman Hunter the former Leeds great.
Love him of loathe him he could defend, play and of course WIN he says....

"The best teams defend"

"Chelsea defend and that's why they win, Gary Monk has the Leeds defence sorted six home clean sheets in a row. But everyone wants to do a Barcelona"

"People think defending is easy but it is not it's about concentrating for 90 mins"

All very simple and obvious but as Divinci said "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" "complexity is the refuge of the mediocre"

Obviously Pardew preferred to hide his inadequacy in complexity, f****g about without sorting the defence. Please God I hope BFS has this mentality

Theresa May

After May's toadying up and fawning to the idiot Trump yesterday she is now following it up with an immediate visit to meet Turkey's Erdogan. Another president who censors the media and has an appalling human rights record, and acts like a banana republic dictator.

I think May needs a thread of her own now. Is there nothing she won't do to retrieve the Brexit disaster?

Holocaust Memorial Day

You who live safe
In your warm houses;
You who find on returning in the evening
Hot food and friendly faces:

Consider if this is a man
Who works in the mud
Who knows no peace
Who fights for a bit of bread
Who dies because of a yes and because of a no

Consider if this is a woman,
Without hair and without name
Without enough strength to remember
Vacant eyes and cold womb
Like a frog in the winter:

Reflect on the fact that this has happened:
These words I commend to you:

DGFootball Podcast 2016/17

Hi All

So, I've encouraged to start my own thread on here rather than tag on to the FYP thread, as I have a regular podcast which gives much airtime to CPFC, although more broad in the remit.

It is a English Football podcast which has a primary focus of:-
- Being a different voice to the generic punditry and journalism out there
- Looks to use stats as a starting point for discussion on many topics. Starting point only
- Tries to be objective and consistent. Not poliarised in terms of the hype over certain managers and players one week and then lambasting them the next
- Tries to give some of the non top 6 EPL sides a bit more coverage
- Tries to be based on research of sorts

Common topics are:
- News
- Are english bosses given a fair chance? Defeating the hype over foreign or fashionable managers
- Giving youth a chance at clubs, particularly home based youth

We've been going for over a year and had some attention from other pods/some footballers. But our listener base is currently very small and marketing has been minimal.

GIVE US A TRY! But I warn you, as we go in to some real debate and detail we are a fairly long listen each time.

Platforms:
1) iTunes Podcast App under DGFootball (To view the link you have to Register or Login)
2) Acast under DGFootball (To view the link you have to Register or Login)

Palace in 1965/66

jeudi 26 janvier 2017

For Christmas I was given all of the home programmes from the 1965/66 season. On Tuesday I read the one from the final day against Carlisle. Football programmes have changed a lot of the years and and these could be fitted in your coat pocket unlike the 80 page version you get now. I was also given from someone else a programme from March 1975 and that had many changes.

I saw some names I recognised including John Jackson, David Payne and Steve Kember and other players I had not known about before. Bert Head arrived as manager in the later part of the season.

It was funny to look at some of the adverts to see how things have changed including getting £10 off a new car if you showed them the programme before the end of the season.

Some things seemed to be rather different (as I expected) therefore I have a few questions about Palace around that time and you can also tell me about any personal experiences. I know that some questions do sound a bit silly but I'm just interested to know a bit more.

Firstly, in the programme for the opening home game there is a comment from Arthur Wait and the club getting permission for a new covered stand in Park Road. Was the Crystal Palace Football Club Building Fund (adverted at the start of ever programme) part of the stands fundraising or was that for a different part of the ground?

In a lot of the early season programmes they asked schoolboys not to throw toilet rolls on the pitch. Did anyone on here do that and if so why?

I noticed a page in every programme was given to the supporters club where they talked about different things they were doing for the club including the club shop and raffles. Apart from what I have mentioned how different were they from the supporters trust we have today?

I noticed that coach travel would sometimes leave late on a Friday night ahead of a Saturday game. Why did that happen as now they would just go early on the Saturday?

In many programmes they advertised a weekend trip trip to Great Yarmouth for an away match against Norwich leaving on Friday evening and returning on Sunday afternoon. Was this an annual event and if anyone did go on a weekend away (in any season) with Palace what was it like? I got the impression that they choose somewhere different every season.

Over the Easter weekend we played three games. Home on Good Friday and Saturday and away on Easter Monday. Did we always around that time of the season play three games in four days? Managers would go mad if they happened now. In that season the only thing they didn't like was how much travelling was involved in such a short space of time.

There seemed to be a bigger mention of reserve games compared to the currently under 23 league equivalent. Did these games get big crowds when Palace were away and did they always happen on Saturday afternoons, or was it just a short term thing?

As we went out of the F.A Cup in round 3 (a 3-0 defeat away at Carlisle) they arranged a friendly against Nottingham Forest. Was this a regular thing most teams did or more likely a one off because it suited both clubs?

Lastly did anyone shop in Brake Bros in Croydon? It was the back page advert on every programme.

You don't have to answer all questions and if you know about other season you can tell me about that as well. The first game I went to was in November 2003 so I don't know that much about going to watch Palace before then but would be interest to find out more. If you know of any good websites you can post them on here.

If anyone is interested we finished the season in 11th.

Thanks

No offers for our fringe squad players

I think the title says it all. Still 4 days to go. Not hopeful though. Feels like CPFC has been done like a kipper on resale values of some of our buys in the past 2-3 seasons. :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Discussion: downing odds shorten

Stewart downings odds have dropped today to 5/2 with skybet to sign for us , maybe someone's putting on money, at 32 he would partner well with samba:veryangry

Suggestion: Leon Bailey & his half brother

Not sure if I should of put this as 'humour' or not as it sounds strikingly similar to the Benteke's deal.
However I genuinely believe Bailey is a huge prospect. Can't believe Hull look like they are in the running for him.

Congratulations Brighton

Plenty of luck this season but it looks like they are about to take their rightful ( in their minds)place in the premier league.
It has only taken 25 years and £200 million but they have done it the right way and become the 48th club to play in it , many of whom have been designated as tinpot by the south coast hordes.

Well done.

The slow erosion of government ethics

This story caught my eye this morning.
In truth it could have been any one of dozens of stories over the last decade or two that leads to the same question - Did the British government have a stronger sense of principles and ethics in the past then it does now?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The arms sales to Saudi used to flatten Yemeni villages is another one, as well as the increasingly selective way the law works for some and not others (particularly tax evasion).

Was there ever a golden age (perhaps 1930s to 1960s) where British governments did what was right (rather than what was most profitable), or is that a figment of our collective imagination?

Holmesdale Displays - Palace Fanbase & Funding

mercredi 25 janvier 2017

Posting here on behalf of the HF and reaching out to all Palace fans who have enjoyed the displays we put on over the years. Within the group we have a membership of sorts, a monthly donation from members that goes towards not only displays but also general upkeep of things at Palace, for example from an award presented to Speroni for breaking the appearance record to purchasing a shirt for the young lad who's old man passed away from cancer recently.

We have had a number of people asking how they could contribute to the group without necessarily having to be involved in the day to day running of things and setting up a monthly standing order is perhaps the best method of doing this. Can be done with online banking or by going into the bank in person. Anyone that does will not only be adding to the colour and noise at Selhurst but will also have have first dibs on away travel as well as new merchandise (Scarves and polos coming within the week).

Given the precarious nature of the club in the league at the minute we have decided to go all in for the remained of the season display wise and beginning last week will aim to create as many tifos likes the ones below as possible in the coming weeks. This is all dependent on funding, as said all our boys put in from their own pocket but this only gets us so far. If anyone here on PTID would like to contribute via standing orders, the bank account details are as follows ...

Bank – Barclays
Account Name – Holmesdale Fanatics
Account Number – 50305359
Sort Code - 20-84-20

Comment below or PM this account if you would like to contribute. Many thanks and here's to staying up. HF05.

John "Budgie" Burridge coming to Brisbane

mardi 24 janvier 2017

You can keep your Premier League. Budgie, now a coach, is on his way with Filipino side Global FC in the Asian Cup qualifiers. The glamour! Might even try to get the shirt signed.

Just looking at Wikipedia and the guy played for over 30 clubs!

Win that and we play a one off away game against Shanghai Shenhua , Carlos Tevez if he has started. Looking forward to the coach trip.

Where can we buy tickets

Hi,

I am wanting to get some tickets but noticed the new rules say you cant request advertise on here. Any advice where I can try and get some tickets?

Thanks

Rumour: Luka Milivojevic

Crystal Palace are believed to be the favourites to land Olympiakos midfielder Luka Milivojevic.

The Premier League interest mounts on the Serbian midfielder as Crystal Palace are believed to have the upper hand to claim his signature.

Crystal Palace are understood to be weighing up a bid in the region of 10 million euros to Olympiakos for Milivojevic while the Greek giants would seek 15 millions to let him go.

Suggestion: Andrea Ranocchia

Hull, Swansea, West Ham and a number of German teams sniffing around him. Has been told by Inter that he can leave. 28 years old, has captained Inter and 20 something caps for Italy. Surely worth getting in on this?

Aston Villa keen to sell Ross McCormack.

Would be a good back up option up front!

What's Happening at Middlesbrough

Karanka odds on to be next manager to leave...

Official: This just doesn't feel right

I definitely want to stay up and yes I feel we probably could do with PVA, Evra, a central defender of note, and a combative quality midfielder.....

But at what cost ? I am not talking of the financial cost.

To me, the fun is seriously seeping away. We risk losing our identity and what I have always enjoyed about what we are and always have been. It's really just not much fun anymore.

I don't want us to go down. But I would like to feel comfortable supporting my club again.

Discussion: Combative midfielder

This is going to be the make or break issue for me. If we can sign a beast in midfield to give space to Cabaye and Jimmy we will stay up. We won't if we fail to address this. Great to get some left sided players but we need more presence in the middle of the park, we have done for so long now. We get bossed by everyone.

Suggestion: Branislav Ivanovic

I have no idea whether this has been suggested or not, but, might be worth a punt. Lots flying about that Everton are interested to replace Jagielka. Can play at RB or CB, certainly a better option than are current bench option than Kelly.

Ward/Ivanovic Dann/Tomkins/Delaney Souare/Evra as our defensive options.

Top Tips for an American tourist to the UK

Partly inspired by NASH84 and the stupidest things thread, I think we should have a top tips thread for American tourists visiting London and the UK.

1) When in London, always ask for a sea view (thanks Nash84)

2) Visit Jack the Ripper's house at 19b Lower Belgravia Street.

3) Visit the house where the famous WWII "Unknown soldier" was born on 86 Horseferry Road.

Suggestion: Ruben Loftus Cheek

I'm not sure the ins and outs of a loan deal with Remy being on our books but I think he'd make a good addition to us. Big powerful player who's good on the ball. I remember when he came on against us when we beat them 2-1 and he looked tidy. Not sure what Chelsea's stance are with him featuring in their plans though. If it were even slightly possible given his age and what Chelsea would want a permanent deal would be superb.

The next five league games will decide our fate

Away to Bournemouth
Home to Sunderland
Away to Stoke
Home to Boro
Away to West Brom

All five of those games are winnable. We need a minimum of 3 wins. And we need to go for wins in all those matches. After that it's Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester Utd. If we are not out of the relegation zone by the start of those fixtures we will be done for.

Chockys Funeral Details

Ok, many of you have been asking about information.

All we know at the moment is that the funeral will be on Wednesday, and, we believe, at the International Crematorium in Benalmadena Pueblo.

More info when we get it.

Chocky: Riviera Raghead fund-raising drive.

Hi all,

I was thinking about this last night and mentioned it on the main thread, but didn't want to start this then. I have just spoken with Pete (Maidstoned) on this and think it would be wonderful if we start a gofundme or somesuch to raise money towards his funeral costs and obscene and uncouth flower arrangements. Anything left can go to a school for disadvantaged *******/p*kis or some such.

Or maybe as a donation to the local bars in Mijas.

Thoughts people? It would be great if we can take some of the pressure from Norma, his family and friends at this most sad of sad times.

£5k of support will go a long way and we'll cane that on the BBS.

I'm assuming the answer is 'hell yes.' already btw. Thoughts and I'll go set-up the funding page.

Peace brother, you lovely drunken arse. x

So did she cover this test failure up before the crucial debate in parliament to renew Trident?

£30 billion is a high price to pay for an own goal, and what n own goal that might have been. Much more serious than a mere £30 million striker missing a penalty.

He played very well yesterday.

This time next year

Talking hypothetically, if you could have a sneaky peak would you at where we would be this time next year, because with our premier league status hanging seriously in the balance these are the two massive swings that could happen

Bottom 3 of the championship , worse case scenario

Top 8 in the premier league , best case scenario

With these next fixtures coming up especially the next two home games it could be so so pivotal in our near future for the club , I would look if I could

Why the late goals?

Yesterday's winner from Coleman was the 7th time we've conceded decisive match-losing goals in the last 10 minutes this season. The full horror list is:

Wanyama (82 mins, L 0-1)
Toure (83, L 1-2)
Barnes (90+4, L 2-3)
Llorente (90+3, L 4-5)
Ibrahamovic (88, L 1-2)
Angel (88, L 1-2)
Coleman (87, L 0-1)

True, we've also scored decisive goals in the last minute at Sunderland and Hull, but this list of 80+-minute chokers surely can't be a coincidence.

Is it all down to fitness? Answers on a postcard, please.....

Bag found at game yesterday

Morning all,

Wanted to post this on here just in case it helps someone out.

After the game yesterday I found a kids' backpack, with a big Palace crest and Macron logo on it, under a seat in block V of the main stand.

It had a Lyle and Scott scarf and phone charger pack in it.

I handed it in to a steward so it should be safely in lost property at the ground. :p

Premier League relegation odds

How he hell aren't we odds on to go down?

Still longer odds than Swansea, Hull and Sunderland.

Allardyce out!

He's had no bounce effect & can't attract any new players to come here! Millen could of done a better job! Jordan was right about him, he wasn't ready to come back into management..

Lets discuss who might get relegated

Looking at the fixtures and of course we are right in amongst it now who do you think will go ?

Swansea pulled a great win out of the bag today and looking at the fixtures i think if we can match and better middlesboro results and of course beat them we may just be ok. Boro have as difficult run in as us looking at there fixtures

Do you feel a bit stupid as a club?

Palace were given the perfect oppotunity to build and prove themselves in the Premier League after winning 160 million, yet have seemingly pissed it all up the wall whilst spending willy nilly on random "household names"and dishing out huge wages! Now look at the situation! Everything points at Palace going directly to hell in a hand cart!

Acadamy in far worst shape than it ever has been, overall team in dire straights. Most morally bankrupt manager that is possible to find and the ground (Selhurst super bowl) is falling apart piece by piece as we speak!

Grim! :p

Effective scouting network?

[B] where is it? we knew since September that we needed a new left back, we have had almost 4 months to scout and get some early bids in from 1 January yet here we are in a total mess. BFS coming out now saying we have bid unsuccessfully for 20 players. Why did he have to say that, that just makes us look even more desperate and discourage any players out there not to come. We are in a mess but jesus if you wanna compete you need a decent scouting network, it just doesn't exist...

Togetherness

This place is an utter shambles.

Ok, things aren't going well, and it's so frustrating to watch and listen to, but one thing we've always had at Palace is a togetherness, almost family like.

The players aren't doing their bit, we know that, but how do you think they would feel coming on here reading the crap and shambolic behaviour on here every week. Their performance are just reflective of what's on here... When did we all become so entitled and deserving? It's not the Palace way, we stick together through thick and thin.

Reading about choccy' news brought it home for me today... Let's just get behind the team like we've done before and see what happens. If it's the championship for us then so be it, but let's get our club and team back together!

Up the Palace!! :lux:

100,000 march for women's rights and against Trump

Brilliant to have such a huge demonstration in support of women's rights.

Also amazing that a new US president would face such a demonstration not only in the USA but in countries all round the world. Unprecedented.

Let's be Palace

I've been miserable for so long and I'm tired of it. If we go down then we go down but I've had enough of being down about things, I'm going to support the lads and believe until the last. COYP!

When is Puncheon going to be dropped?

All he does is run in circles, pointing at others. No tackles. Floated corners in that keeper can collect. NEVER shows in first half. He needs a rocket up his arse. He never plays well in first half so bring him on in the 2nd. We need some good subs. He needs to go from starting line up. Let's go 3-4-3 if there are no other good centre mids at the club. (CYL and Ledley are not up to it either.) At least if Puncheon came on in 2nd he would do more than CYL. He is very good technically but doesn't deserve game after game.

Big Sam, if you buy one player make it a top class defensive mid.

The madness behind the Allardyce Apointment

The club invest a record transfer fee on a player who will only ever prove effective if you play to his strength......scoring more goals than our opponents was the obvious plan for Premiership season 16/17 and 5th place in the goal scoring charts suggested that the plan was in part working...........unfortunately Pardews deluded optimism resulted in attacking success without but did so without ever addressing the need for a combative midfield and a defence in need of pace and a leader to organise.
That said the dye was cast and our playing style set......what was required was a manager capable to recognise the needs of the team but also appreciate the importance of continuing to play to our key assets......why oh why then appoint a man whose management style is do diametrically opposite to our strengths......to play for clean sheets Big Sam so clearly believes are our salvation we would have to purchase at least 6 new players.......something not going to be achieved in the January window.......it makes no sense at all and is the real reason we are now in real danger of being relegated......In the coming weeks I predict we will see an increasingly frustrated manager who will bemoan everything......denying the chance of any positivity to develop within any sector of the club.......and sealing our fate to the Championship

Chocky: Sad News

I have to share some very sad news with the BBS.

Ex-Mod, founding BBser member, all round top fella, and brother to Biggus and I, is very very ill.

He was rushed into hospital last week with severe stomach pains, having to miss his mums funeral. After tests a very large tumour was discovered on his liver and kidneys which is inoperable.

He has maybe 24 hours left.....I can't believe I am writing this......he is on very strong doses of morphine and is unaware of what is wrong, he is unconcious and fading very fast.

He isn't alone, people are with him, I will be going to the hospital tomorrow.

Please spare a moment to give him a though. We are desperately trying to trace his freind Garry or Harry, from his days drinking in The Conquering Hero, so if anybody on here knows him please please message me or Biggus.

As I have said, he is comfortabe, warm, not alone and is not in pain. Please don't text him, myself and Biggus will keep everyone informed.

Fivethirtyeight's Club "soccer" Predictions

Those of us that follow US sports are probably aware of Nate Silver's fivethrityeight.com, a website that uses statistics to track sports (and other news). One of the things they do is project results and tables for the four major US sports. To view the link you have to Register or Login (they call it soccer), which include the English First Division (they call it the Premier League). To view the link you have to Register or Login, if you want the tech speak. I always find their work pretty useful.

At present, they predict we have a 44% chance of relegation, better than the three bottom clubs, but their table appears to be out of date. Still - hope!

Disclaimer: this might be more appropriate in World of Football but I think here.

Suggestion: Phil Jagielka

Apprently Koeman has said that Everton would entertain offers for Jagielka. Personally I think we should be all over this and would be a better option than Collins.

He would bring vast experience and could install some confidence in a back four that is severely lacking.

Thoughts?

Scrap the offside rule

To view the link you have to Register or Login

FIFA technical director Marco van Basten has floated a radical blueprint for the future of football which would see offside abolished and sin-bins introduced.

The former World Player of the Year was employed by FIFA in September to oversee all technical areas ranging from innovations in technology to refereeing.

And the Dutchman's long-term vision for the game includes scrapping some of its most established rules.

"We must keep looking for ways to improve the game," Van Basten said in an interview with Sport Bild.

"To make it more honest, more dynamic, more interesting, so that what we offer is attractive enough.

"There are lots of variations which need to be tested in the coming years."

Van Basten says abolishing the offside rule would mean an end to games which "resemble handball where nine players, plus the goalkeeper, pack the penalty area and [the defence] is like a wall".

Id quite like to see how it worked though

He also wants to scrap Extra Time and for penalty shootouts to be timed or from 25 metres out similar to how the MLS used to do penalty shoot outs

Discussion: The Left Back Conundrum

Could it be that the club/Parish are working too hard on getting a big name in like Evra and Van Aanholt? I still find it quite dumbfounding we have gone all this time without sorting out a capable left back for the club yet given we have known our problem since September.

Thunderbirds wine

You must be able to get it online but we want to get it tonight

Losing your beer/pub virginity

Aged 14 - I was nearly 6ft mind, late 70's and some pub in Godstone the locals called 'Fawlty Towers' because the landlord Barry was as eccentric as they come.

Dad and Uncle bought me first half - John Smith's draught - and as it was a Sunday lunchtime there was a stripper on too. I saw her bare arse running upstairs and that was it but happy enough with that.

First pint - two years later. 50p bitter Schooner Inn Norbury.

Time to be upbeat and positively

Within a matter of a few weeks everything I read or listen to spoken about Palace seems to be doom and gloom with the dangerously attached assumption that we are almost certainties for relegation.
No rose tinted glasses here though..........it is obvious that mistakes and huge mistakes at that have been made over the past 18 months ranging from dodgy transfer activity both in and out of the club to naive tactics and calamitous defending and individual performances far from worthy of the status of a premier league football player........
It has been a collective effort that has got us on the edge of the relegation zone and it needs a collective effort to get out of it......and that will be best achieved by everyone...especially Big Sam being more positive and upbeat in all things related to Crystal Palace.
I do not want to hear moans about bad luck, unfair scheduling, dodgy decisions, inflated transfer fees, tiredness, loss of form, individual mistakes costing games, players not good enough to wear our esteem team colours.......what I do want to hear and read is all of the following......that we are a team capable of defending we'll both individually and Collectively , that we will have our slices of luck over the next 10 games, that it is a joy to be a well paid footballer playing for one of the countries top clubs, that we are blessed with unquesionable talent and that without doubt we have the best set of supporters in the Premier League....all of which means collectively that we are certainties to avoid the drop........

Parking ticket. Chances of winning appeal ?

Apologies I know there's some parking ticket thread somewhere but can't find it. Mods feel free to merge etc

So, BBSers, chances of winning this appeal....I think feck all, the mrs thinks there's a good chance

Car park in town. Usual camera in, camera out job.

Couple of weeks ago, the Mrs parks her car up and sends the little un to pop and get a ticket for an hour, which she does. All happy, ticket on window etc.

Letter arrives today, pictures of her car in and out of the car park and saying no ticket purchased. Bollocks says the mrs, I remember sending the little un to get a ticket and luckily I think the ticket is still in the car. Brilliant, it was indeed still in the car. Unfortunately the little un, bless her cottons has entered MY car reg instead of the Mrs's.

Obviously we can send all docs required to confirm the car with the reg on the ticket belongs to me and they will be able to see from cctv etc that my car didn't go in the car park and from the entry in and ticket time etc it will be easy enough to prove that it was an innocent mistake.

However I know what these bastards are like and they will just say 'tough'. We could take it all the way and say fine take us to court and we'll stick the evidence in front of the court etc but is it worth the stress etc for £65. Obviously worth a try but can't see it.

Anyone with any similar experience ?

Chances of getting it deleted ? About the same as Palace finishing 15th I reckon

Allardyce - already making excuses - we must be in trouble !

Cast your minds back to when Allardyce first joined Palace, I read 3 or 4 press pieces where he was suggesting he couldn't believe his luck in landing the Palace job with the quality of squad we had at his disposal.

4 winless premiership games later (where our performances have got progressively worse). He is now saying;

"I got to Palace a little late, remember I was already at Sunderland by November 2015, gave me more time...."
"This job is harder than I thought, this will be tougher than Sunderland"
"This transfer window is harder than any I have known before"
"The defence needs a total reshaping"
"The players confidence is lower than I first thought"

Where was that new manager positive results bounce.....

Allardyce seems to now be aware he has bitten off a little too much to chew this time, doesn't feel me with any confidence that he actually feels he can get us out of this mess. We lose against Everton and in my opinion we are down !!!

A different perspective of the Chinese Super League

I have grown very tied of people in the media saying statements that the Chinese teams should be banned from signing players and inflating the market. This just seems like a western centric perspective that only European leagues should be allowed to have the best players. No complains happen when Real Madrid break the transfer record?

How do you think South American clubs have felt for the last 50 years losing all their best players to Europe?

People criticise some of the Foreign players for leaving for Chinese clubs, with Diego Costa being called a mercenary. Well what qualities stopped him leaving Atletico Madrid for Chelsea... when the shoe is on the other foot they dont like it. These players are playing in a foreign land to begin with, so there are just exchanging one forgeign land for another. Think of all the African and South Americans that play abroad. People just get confused these players who are leading a career care about their club I guess and dont see these Chinese Clubs as 'real', maybe these people need to travel more and see the world is alot bigger than Europe.

Its very hypocritical to say this and also arrogant and western centric to believe the Premiership is somehow different and better.

Just a thought , could Ward play central defence ? Decent height and reasonably mobile ? We tried Kelly there on occasions but Ward is stronger physically and more comfortable on ball .

Remy Recall Option?

Do we know if Chelsea have a recall option for Loic Remy? What with all this crap kicking off with Costa, and Chelsea recalling Bamford last week, it got me thinking about Remy.

Hopefully there is no option for a recall as it is the last we need at the moment.

Have we become the new QPR?

I hate to say it, but I feel we have.

Some Solutions.

This will be TL:DR and I don't know why I'm bothering but I have some time to kill so here goes.

Ways out of this mess

It's really easy to sit back and say X doesn't care or Y is shit but the systematic problems of what is going on runs much deeper and exists on so many levels that just a change in manager isn't going to sort out what's been allowed to go wrong. Everyone at the club needs to take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror and we need to start again, soon, before it's too late. There's a lot of basic things I think that need changing at every level of the club and here's some of my suggestions.

Training Ground/Training

1. Training Environment

Replacing the inept coaching set up was a good start, but it needs to go deeper than that. I'd advise repainting the training ground, moving tables around, changing the times of training, even as far as getting Macron to design a new training kit.

The association the training ground currently has psychologically with the players is of the old regime. They say a change is as good as a rest and I think moving forward, tweaking these little things breaks up the routine and makes the players think a bit more, it all feels a bit negative auto pilot at the moment.

2. Individual Errors

There's still too many of these and it's still the same players making the same mistakes every game and that's a thing that systematic coaching should work on. I'm not privy to how it works but It seems to me there isn't enough mental work on mistakes. The vibe I get is, for example Ward will make a mistake that he shouldn't of made, and be like "sorry lads! don't know why I did that, won't do it again" and it's left there.

If these mistakes are reoccurring, on a mental side, the work should be on asking the player about the thought process behind the mistake, whether it's a conscious or unconscious thing, a decision is being made to move or not move, the coaches and psychologists need to work with the players on understanding 'Why' because the best way for the players to learn and improve is to understand why they have to do what they've got to do and how to do it. At the moment it feels like they're being footballing brain dead and waiting for direction. This also helps with rebuilding confidence and mental fitness.

Playing Squad

Pardew has left a pretty bitty and messy squad and it's going to need some brave decisions to be made. Big characters are going to need to be brought in to freshen the place up and some older heads will need to be moved out. The Midfield has no balance, the defense is completely porous and the attack is isolated and ponderous.

The key is going to be to pick a few of the current squad to rebuild around and bring in another 5 this window.

I'd identify

Two Fb's

one *LEFT FOOTED LEFT SIDED* Cb

two CM's

need for a new left back and right back is obvious but we need a new Cb as well, someone strong and experienced, who's good at organization. As good as Dann has ever been for us, he's never looked like a leader or someone who could put on a piss up in brewery. Also we're far too reliant on right footed players and there's no natural balance in the back 4 meaning you become predictable.

The Full back's need to be strong, fit and balanced, as in if they aren't technically great or amazing positionaly they need to the pace to be able to make up the ground, they need to be good going forward as well as defending as we've got to start rebuilding the links in our team. can be from outside the Premier league or even England, if there's better value to be had but needs to be able to get up to speed quickly

The CB needs to be an organizer and a talker, a slightly older head, left footed and left sided, someone like Ashley Williams would be perfect, seasoned pro, knows the league inside and out, this is where you'll probably have to pay a little over the odds wages wise but you'll probably save on transfer fee. Genuinely good defenders are almost impossible to find, so a good experienced head is what is needed.

We obviously need a destroyer who's a cardio beast. Ibarro looks like he could be that player, but if not it might be worth looking in the Turkish league. That's how we unearthed Jedinak and West Ham found Kouyate, the only issue with that is them getting up to speed with the league again.

The other CM we need is in the mould of Joey Barton or Robbie Savage or Dennis Wise, Alan Smith, Kevin Nolan, or a CM Craig Bellamy, a proper little hyped up petulant shit bag who's full of energy so as soon as the ball is lost, he's snapping at people's ankles, getting elbows into ribs, tapping people's Achilles, nothing designed to hurt anyone, but all the little competitive digs and touches that you need to be professional at this level, someone other teams hate playing against, because he's always in your ear or your face or the ref's ear.

Then we need to work on linking the team together.

Pre Afcon finishing

-----------Mandanda-----------
-Fb-----Dann-----CB-----LB---
--McArthur--CDM----New CM-
------------Cabaye-------------
-----Remy---------Benteke-----

It leaves us narrow and relies on the FB bombing on, but in theory the CDM can drop and become a 3rd CB when attacking and McArthur and the new CM can act as ankle biters and move across rather than forward to fill in the gaps.
Cabaye is there to not play as a number 10 but to play just behind Remy who's just behind Benteke, he's the furthest forward of 4 picking up the ball and just being able to use his technical ability without having to do too much running around but offering enough that defensively he can cover if needed.

This isn't so much about winning games as it is about grinding out points. It's a team designed so it can play on the front foot, but can control the space without the ball well enough to soak up pressure and pick up points without dropping too deep and inviting pressure on.

When Wilf and Sako come back you have your outlets and more links. We need to have one player in each line who's job it is to get the ball to the next part of the pitch, like a relay race, you're job is to get it up the pitch but to maintain control of the ball/the space. not just hoofed up to the heavens.

2.Kits

I'd even go as far as to possibly suggest Macron design a new Striped home shirt and a new plain away kit, again it's the mental associations thing.

3. Dann not captain

I think this needs to happen and would be good for all involved. Bring in a new big character a big presence who's well respected and intends to be here for some time and take the burden off Scott Dann.

Branding

I think the club needs to start putting the history of Palace at the heart of the match day experience.

1. New 'Palace' Lights show

I'm not against the lights shows I just think they're very poorly done. I think just before kick off the lights should dim and a video should play on the screen of Palace teams of old walking down the tunnel, like quick edits, lots of cuts, thumping bass line on the track, some kind of pump up song and a video package that Put's Palace's identity and the fans at the heart of everything. It needs a bit of bite, something that's very Palace. think any given Sunday.

I'll probably have more thoughts but these are just some things I've been thinking about. Feel free to comment/ignore. just rather do this than sit here and moan about everything.

FA Cup run.

I know I'm risking serious flak here but what if we went on a Cup run? We need confidence building. After today, I think City are saying goodbye to the FA Cup. What if we were to cash in? We need to feel what it is like to win again. I wouldn't sacrifice our PL place for it but a few wins in the Cup might lift the spirits. We need to feel what it is to win again. Then, we can add on a few points. Contrary to many on the BBS, I think we will pull this nightmare round to something approximating a safe season. It might start with the Cup.

Problems in the centre of midfield

Whilst we have problems in all areas of the team I wanted to start a thread to get people's thoughts on the issues in the centre of midfield.

With our lack of clean sheets and poor defensive displays the initial criticism goes on the defence. I personally feel like our lack of an out an out defensive midfielder massively contributes to our defensive problems.

Our central midfield also lacks pace, height, and doesn't offer much in an attacking sense. Puncheon has zero goals to his name!

I would like to see McArthur a new defensive midfielder and a new attacking midfielder assuming we continue to play 3 in midfield.

What changes would you make to the centre of midfield if any?
