Something in my water has me fearing so. For me personally it probably was. Im not sure I will see Palace play again at Wembley, or even again full stop. Thanks to the generosity and thoughtfulness of a fellow Palace fan, the backing of a very understanding wife, and the good fortune to be able to have the time and the funds to attend, I believe never having seen Palace in a final before was a once in a lifetime event for me.
But I also fear for all Palace fans. How long can this incredible support last? The fans, the enthusiasm, displays and the singing was something I doubt Wembley had seen before, and Im sure there will be teams that will emulate it and even surpass it in years to come, but for now it is the standard all others will only aspire to. Games a Selhurst Park are fantastic in the support, but the poor home form of the last two years will erode this and there may have been cracks appearing last season.
The club has now been in the Premier League for three seasons, and I know this bubble is going to burst one day. The second half of the season made us forget how brilliant we were in the first half. There were times I asked myself am I really watch Crystal Palace? I fear the second half of the season may be a mindset hard to dig out from. I hope the new signings can put that to rest and prove me wrong.
The ground is a frustration. I know very good and motivated people are doing their best to do something anything. But the lack of any glimmer of hope does not bode well. I really hope that like Wolves, even in the event of relegation Palace will find a way to do something, be it a move or massively renovate just something. Again, this may be as good as it gets for the foreseeable future.
I so hope Im wrong, and once again Palace prove me wrong and set the bar even higher some time soon.
