My toilet cistern stopped filling tonight :(
It is one of those two button thingies, so I removed the top and looked inside. I worked out how to get to where the washer is and removed the top of it. Inside, just sticking through, was what looked like string. I pulled at it and, like a magician's trick, it just kept coming. It ended up about 12 inches long, I turned the little tap on and the water started flowing again.
Thing is, the stuff that came out really looked like string, it was even twisted like a helter skelter, but it just disintegrated when I squashed it between my fingers. I don't think, if it was string, it could have worked its way round the bends and through the tap.
I have recently fitted anti-limescale magnets to my main water pipe and have noticed limescale loosening in places. I was wondering if this could be limescale that's made itself into the shape of the inside of the pipe until it finally blocked it.
Have any plumbers come across this? Thanks.
