Ok BBS, lets do a hypothetical exercise. Partly because I am interested to see what you all come up with, partly because there is literally nothing more boring than people taking time to write that they are bored.
Pardew earlier today confirmed we are aiming to bring in 2 more players before any outgoings. Outgoings on top of this would then lead to more incoming. This may have been utter bs but thats irrelevant, we are going to imagine this is the case. We are also going to imagine the two original targets are Benteke and Berahino giving us a team that looks like...
On top of this, we are going to assume Bolasie, one of Jedinak/Ledley, and Mutch are all sold. Lets say for a total of £30m (possibly a little generous, post any sell-ons, before any add-ons, etc).
How would you spend £30m given the team above? Who would you bring in for how much? Where is the lineup weak, and how would your suggestions improve the squad? You dont have to spend it all, but you cant spend more.
Remember this is just hypothetical, im not saying we are definitely getting or losing any of the names mentioned. Also not interested in any of the inevitable "keep Bolasie and Jedi/Ledley" comments for the same reason.
For me I would go:
Joel Campbell - £18m (Replacing Bolasie, might be tough with Arsenals injury problems. Showed when he got his chance that he can definitely cut it at this level, but will always be cover at Arsenal. Also may as well replace Sako)
Thorgan Hazard - £8m (Been full of goals and assists, impressive given his age. Unproven at this level but hopefully would become the creative midfielder we have always wanted but lacked. Would already play him ahead of Mutch as is. Replaces CYL)
Loan LB cover (I actually think Souare will have a better season than people expect if we get Benteke. Can cross the ball so think he can get a few assists)
