Suggestion: Possible Plan B

Here is my PLAN B suggestion.

It is on a Facebook page I started a month or so ago. The page is primarily related to the EPL with an obvious focus on Palace, especially for those of us in Thailand and surrounding SE Asian countries.

I am not doing this for money in any way whatsoever nor am I selling anything but just for my love of writing and my passions for football and especially Palace.

If you want to take a look then great. If you look and then LIKE the page well even better. If you take a look, like AND comment then that would be fantastic. If you cannot be bothered then no worries, it is not a big deal.

Reserve striker business model

I've been wondering what Palace's long term plan is for the likes of Ladapo, Appiah and Anderson?

Are they simply to have on the books to loan and gain income? (Appiah might fit this strategy?)

They're all too old (except maybe Anderson?) to play unless in the 25 man squad, but with limited non/lower league experience, it's difficult to see them making an impact at Premier League level.

Are they just unsuccessful gambles in the search for the next Ian Wright?

Are they just padding out the development squad?

Appreciate long term injuries to Anderson and Appiah may have derailed planned routes to first team?

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

When I'm watching streamed (HD) football through the PC I get just the tiniest 'judder' in the display which I don't get when watching it via BT Sport - which is also streamed.

Now I absolutely accept that given BT are chucking 40Mbps at me then their picture ought bloody well to be buttery smooth. Having said that, I subscribed to PremierLeaguePass last season which also provided an excellent HD stream... but viewed through the PC with this slight judder...

I am going to rebuild my main PC, which will free up the internals to rebuild the 'Media Centre' on a hand-me-down basis. My main PC also runs an AMD Radeon R7 200 but has this spec:

Chartered Surveyor- Vaulation - Reccomendation?

Hi all

Unfortunately my father passed away recently, and I have the task, a long with solicitors, of being the executor of his will.

The solicitors are insisting on a chartered surveyor valuation for the property rather than estate agents valuations.

Anyone have any reccomendation around the Tadworth, Surrey area? Or someone who's willing to cover this area at least.

Found a lot of surveyors who no longer offer valuations, and the ones I have found are either extortionate or don't come across very well!

Think he deserves a thread of his own rather than the academy thread.

First year scholar last season, U21 debut just after turning 17, then training with the first team and on the bench for the first team at Manchester United away. Then today he came on as a sub and played a great ball to Keshi Anderson for his goal.

I know he's rated by the club (not sure how highly but obviously fairly highly) and pushing him into the 21s early last season was a good idea.

He'll probably be with our U21s until January training with the first team as well and then go out on loan to League 2 for the remainder of the season.

Celebrity Big Brother Summer 2016

Apart from about three that's gone in, can you only be in this if you have been in a reality TV show before? We have nobodies from The Apprentice, Towie, Ex on the beach, Geordie Shore, Mob Housewifes or whatever it's called, some You Tube stinking mincer (he has to be stamped on immediately).

The only people in there who have done something half decent are Biggins, Sam Fox and James Whale. And one of them is just a big pair of tits lezzer. So is Sam Fox I hear.

Article 50 [not just another Brexit thread]

Oh no! I hear you cry, and understandably so. But this thread is meant to be stand alone. It is not a re-run of the referendum thread. It is not about the impact. There has been one thread for that and the other thread is running.

Also, this is not about future EU trade deals, an issue which has infiltrated the Brexit impact thread.

This is about Article 50, which does not cover trade deals. Trade talks may, at best, be run in parallel but trade will not be part of the UK's EU withdrawal agreement under Article 50. The overlap may well be the broad area of our future EU relationship, once we we have left, so some of that legitimately belongs here too.

While we know the UK Government will not invoke Article 50 until 2017 at earliest, the Commission have appointed their chief Brexit negotiator (Michel Barnier) and our PM is touring the EU looking at various big, relevant issues.

So what could be covered in Article 50? A selective list is:

- access for UK citizens to the European Health Insurance Card and acquired / vested rights of UK citizens in the EU and EU citizens in the UK

- transfer of regulatory responsibilities

- arrangements for contracts drawn up in accordance with EU law

- winding down EU funds e.g. for UK regions and farmers

- access to EU agencies that play a role in UK domestic law, and arrangements for the closure/relocation of EU agencies headquartered in the UK (for Banking and Medicines)

- cross-border security arrangements including access to EU databases and involvement in EuroPol

- co-operation on foreign policy, including sanctions

- departure (or not?) from the Single European Sky arrangement as well as continued access to the EU’s single aviation markets and involvement in other integrated transport including maritime

- rights of UK fishermen to fish in traditional non-UK waters, including those in the North Sea, & rights of EU fishermen to UK waters

- involvement in the EU integrated energy market

- status of the UK’s environmental commitments made as party to various UN environmental conventions and currently implemented through EU legislation.

It would be interesting to hear from BBSers that have direct knowledge in any of these areas.

In terms of resolution, I think the 1st in my list should be ticked off quickly by agreeing to maintain existing rights, despite the conflicting noises from government on this.

Portable Hard Drive Recommendations

After some help. In the market for a new portable hard drive, one that most importantly will work on both PC and Mac straight out the box. This is essential as I have to transfer files (000s of images at a time) to the company server and they work on PC whereas I work off a Mac laptop.

Crystal Ball Ongoing Thread 2016/2017

After some discussion the team from last season are delighted to announce we will be running this again throughout the season.

To anyone new to this, it's all very simple. Basically each week someone will start a new thread (you don't need to wait for us to do so; feel free to start your own) in which you are asked to predict the score of the forthcoming Palace match. Simply enter your prediction on the thread - the score, the scorers, and the attendance. Scoring is as follows:

1. You get 3 points for correctly predicting the score of each match.
2. You get 1 point if you predict the correct result, but get the score wrong.
3. If you correctly predict the score, you will also get 1 point for each goalscorer you correctly predict. (To retain parity with anyone who correctly predicts a 0-0 draw, we will award a total of 4 points for that correct prediction).
4. You get 2 points if you are the closest to predicting the attendance figure. Additionally, everyone whose prediction is within 100 gets 1 point (therefore 3 points if you were closest and within 100). If you are within 101-200 you will get a bonus point. (A bonus point only counts at the end of the season in the event of a tie).

Please note the latest allowable time to post predictions is a minute prior to kick-off time. However, for an attendance punt or the scorers to be valid, the post must be made at least an hour before the kick off.

Just spotted on the BBC that Eddie Howe is tipped as well positioned for the Arsenal job after Wenger. FFS, is it just trendy to like Howe or something? The guy is young and has blond hair and a winning smile. Is that what it takes to get the top jobs now? Forget winning anything meaningful, having european experience, or TBH any experience outside of Bournemouth where he didn't have to run home.

Group visited Eagle Heights on Sunday , Great day as always with very entertaining display especially by Harold the Vulture !!

Kayla arrived back later and we had our pictures taken and had a good chat to Alan ( the owner )

He tells us the club have not been in touch about the new season and they do not know where they stand.

Once again, we have the best Mascot in the prem( ( sky never fail to show pictures ) and the club are really failing to capitalize on the potential benefits to be gained by all sides.

Ripped

Do you know where I can get plastic money envelopes that don't get easily ripped? I've tried several brands and they all got easily ripped. I'm so near to ripping my own hair out.

Pub Hotel in Brighton area for tonight Thursay

My son is playing down on the south coast, between Worthing and Littlehampton, tonight Thursday. Can anyone recommend a good value pub style hotel in that vicinity, in an area with a bit of life and character, perhaps a Wetherspoons or similar, maybe a decent Travel Lodge, rather than an unlicensed B&B or a fancy style hotel?

How the 25 man squad might look

Have done similar threads in the past and they have generated some good discussion as we move towards the end of July and into August.
I never know where to put it - General Discussion or Transfer Hotline but for now it is here.

For anyone that hasnt you should. Its basically about a washed up sitcom actor from the 90s who is struggling with depression. I realise that probably doesnt sell the show very well. But it really is one of the best comedies on tv right now. Its hilarious, dark, deep, and intellegent with its story that unfolds through the three seasons so far. Oh and the main character is also a half man, half horse. :p

Converting front garden for parking

As the thread title suggests, we're looking into converting the front garden of our terraced house in Bromley into parking for two cars. Can anyone suggest a reputable company to do this please? Also, any clues how much it costs these days? I realise we'll have to sell one of the children just to cover the cost of dropping the kerb, but that's fine as I've already decided which one is the most easily dispensable.

Kids today...

So this probably doesn't deserve its own thread but something happened tonight that I wanted to share.

My partners daughter is 14 (we'll call her Emma) and her dad is about to take her to France for a few nights. Unfortunately on Friday afternoon Emma dropped her iPhone down the loo and despite trying rice and silica gel it hasn't come back on.

Anyways tonight Enma was quite upset that it looks like she won't have her phone in Paris and wouldn't be able to take photos while she was there. We tried the whole "it'll be a fab experience" and "you'll love it Anyways" angle but she wasn't having any of it. Anyways we then suggested that we should charge up the digicam for her to take.

She looked slightly aghast by the mere idea and said "why would I want to take the camera?"

Apparently since you can't snapchat / Instagram from the digicam they're not real photos and don't really count. She added that we obviously didn't understand too which was a really nice touch and made me feel like my dad ;)

Gotta laugh at the younger generation...

Smoking

I went to the anniversary games yesterday and as to be expected, got caught up in the masses of people trying to get in to Stratford Tube Station after the event. One thing I noticed was that there seemed to be a lot fewer smokers than when I come out of Selhurst.

It got me thinking as to what sort of percentage of football fans smoke (using us palace (proper) fans as the guinea pigs of the study. I did a search of previous threads and the majority appeared to be from smokers / ex-smokers complaining about not being able to vape within the stands.

Personally, I've never smoked and can't stand the smell. Given that, I struggle to understand the addiction and the desperation of smokers to light up the the very moment they step foot outside the stadium without a care in the world of those that don't want to be subjected to their second hand smoke.

Smokers tend to stick together and generally dislike non-smokers righteousness so I can imagine I will get a bit of abuse for even raising this subject. Hopefully we can have a civil debate for the good of research. :p

The development side have an additional pre-season friendly at Chipstead Football Club in Surrey on Friday 29th July, kick-off 7.45pm.

The ticket prices are £7 (adults), £5 (Concessions over 60 and with a Palace season ticket), £3 Under 16s.

Tickets on sale on the night at the ground.

There is limited parking at the ground on the night of the match.

The nearest train station is Chipstead but High Road is walking distance from the station.

Will be effected by the current situation in regards to travelling to Selhurst for home games with Southern trains or using Southern trains to get to London in order to go to away games,as I will be come September 10th for Middlesbrough.

I know of quite a few of us who regulary travel up from Brighton & nearby stations who will be effected with all this current shenanigans! Theres plenty of other BBS'ers who also live in Sussex who get on at Stations throughout Sussex & also Hampshire who will be effected also by all the current problems.

So,please feel free to leave any relevant information & or news on travel delays,cancellations & the like on this thread,i shall update myself any News on travel on matchdays at Selhurst & on away days when im going.

Stranger things on Netflix

I know it's been discussed a bit in another thread but it really deserves its own.

What a quality series, I'm only halfway through episode five and I'm completely hooked. Winona Ryder is fantastic as the mother doing anything to find Will (her son)and the guy who plays Jim Hopper the policeman is brilliant.

The storyline has a few plot holes but you easily overlook them as everything is so good across the rest of the show. The kids are all perfect for their roles especially Mike and Eleven who steal the show

He then yellow carded the defender TWICE once for each offence and sent him off. Neither of these where aggressive. I presume the ref was right but very surprised any one here a ref that would know?

Electric car

I'd be interest to hear the thoughts of any BBSer that owns one. I'm thinking of getting one. I commute 78 miles a day in my car, and the thought of reducing my fuel bill to zero is very appealing. I can't afford a flash Tesla but something like a Nissan Leaf is very doable. I'm slightly dubious as to how honest the companies are with the range of them. Nissan reckon you can 125miles on one charge, but if that's more like 80 miles in reality its probably not viable.

Firstly, a big thank you to every Palace fan that donated towards the Wembley display - hopefully everyone was as proud as we were seeing the club beamed around the world in a positive light.

As usual, we want to start the season off with big positively with a Holmesdale display to show the club and players that the Palace support is bang up for another season and will be playing our role in in pushing the club forward.

This is a tough time of year to hope for donations seeing as it's still close season and lots of Palace fans are on holiday etc but our work has already started with the display and we need donations for materials etc.

These changes make a lot of sense over time but implemented all at once I would have to say we will finish very few matches with 11 players and there is a good chance Wilf and others will get suspensions.

Cleaning up the game makes a lot of sense and reinforcing the status and respect for the referee is a key step. But from last season, surely the over-riding annoyance for everyone was the debacle at corners and free kicks with manhandling. Not a word, in the article at least.

Just hoping Wilf's constant moaning and groaning at the ref won't fall into this. Could make for a frustrating season.

I live in Calgary in Canada and drove 10 hours to see palace. This part I have no issue with as I was born in Croydon had a season ticket for 13 yrs before I emigrated In 2008.i am still under 40. My kids were mascots and Palace we're brilliant in fixing this but it should be known that the game was part of the Vancouver international challenge and was run by a Chinese events company called pro events... the attendance was terrible due to the events company charging a lot of money ... i paid 58cad .. I met a palace fan who paid 95 cad... the game... pre season all the fitness , subs , pull out of tackles... absolutely loved the palace section of about 100 fans. I don't get to see palace much these days would have paid anything but the events company ruined the whole thing by trying to cash In with over priced tickets.

I've been very pleased with the start of the window and the names we've been linked with since. Exactly the kind I think will drive the club forward, more than I imagined really.

However, there seems to be very little talk of another left back and considering that the only recognised player we have in that position in Pape is worrying. At times last season his form was worth playing with 10 on the pitch...that said on his day which was happened more regularly towards the final and on the day he was excellent.

Form all said and done, an injury/suspension - the latter he would be prone to... And not forgetting the Afcon means we are desperately short on that side of the pitch.

More than 20 people in Germany have been injured after a man with an axe went on the rampage on a train, German media report.

Edinburgh festival (fringe) 2016

After last year's successful meet up for Jim Daly's show and the ultimately unsuccessful televised Arsenal game thought I'd start this thread.

Have looked (not in depth yet) for Jim(trilby) so maybe you could enlighten us if you are appearing with the lovely Mirranda this year.

So last year there was Richard and kids, James and his son Eddie, Toby (wookie) Jim Daly and his dad plus the scottish branch of the good old bbs being myself, elgin eagle, exiled stirling, bubbs11 and sweaty eagle.(who have i missed).We all had a good day out catching Jims show then watching palace v arsenal in the pub and grub after.

So this year. Mark steel, one of palaces celebrity supporters has a show on most days as has his son Elliot. Mark told us at the cup final that it's infuriating cos people say to him "oh your Elliots dad aren't you " and I must admit when I was sitting in the pub 2 years ago talking to Elliott I asked Mark "are you famous " when people were taking photos of him.

I will post links for both their shows. Mark steel has 2 for 1 on Monday and Tuesday 8 /9 august as does Elliot.

So far there's a few of us booked up for marks show on the 9th. Me and Mrs keltic, Elgin Mrs Eligin and Elgin's eaglet and exiled stirling. We are trying to prise bubbs11 away from the plastercine but so far unsuccessfully (a new palace minute maybe ;) ).

Debt collectors

Brought a property about 6 months ago and keep getting debt collector letters for the previous owners.

Have provided evidence to the debt collection agency showing that the person no longer lives here but they keep contacting me asking for payment.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of them. Am considering engaging a solicitor to deal with them.

Carol Kirkwood may be a bit long in the tooth now, with not much time left at the top level. However, in terms of shirt sales and expanding our influence around the world, she might be worth a punt.

I normally assume googling every symptom was a sure fire way of an early grave.

Recently (6 months ago) I found a lump on my neck and at times I found it very painful to swallow for the brief 15 minutes it was painful, then the pain would go away, and the lump would subside for a few days, until the next flare-up.

Last week I got annoyed and phoned my GP, who referred me to the hospital, turns out I have a stone lodged in one of my glands in my neck. I have 6/8 weeks of neck massages to do and if that doesn't dislodge the stone I've to a few sessions using shock wave treatment to break the stone up, and then they fish it out... Now if that doesn't scare you into a google search nothing will.

All being well, Ill dislodge it myself.

Anyone suffered this before? Does shock wave treatment hurt? Does it leave any scarring?

I Resigned Today

After 29 years and 2 weeks with the same bank I today resigned. Got a job with a challenger bank all sorted, but going through the physical process of handing the letter to my boss was surreal albeit I had verbally told him I was off.

My notice period is 3 months and I had hoped for gardening leave, but they tell me to carry on as normal until a replacement is lined up.

I'm trying to work out what carry on as normal actually means when my entire head is focused on the new job yet I care enough about my customers to not want to pretend it's normal when it isn't.

Even 5 lunchtime pints didn't provide any clarity !!

Our fixtures in previous Prem Seasons have been disrupted because of other Prem teams involvement meaning our Saturday games on occasions have been switched to the Sunday.

I believe Man Utd; Saints; and West Ham are the teams in this cup for the coming season.

I looked at the Europa website at their dates for their rounds/matches and as far as I can see there are no clashes for the coming season.

Children's Party Venue

My boy is turning 1 in September and consequently I need to start planning a party for him...obviously heavily Palace themed!

Essentially I need somewhere that will be suitable for around 8 kids from ages 1-10 years old and around 25 adults or so.

I'm struggling for ideas as venues seemed to be geared for hoards of children or are way oversized for 100ish people and I think there is probably going to be too many people to have in one person's house for it to be enjoyable unless the weather is good enough to be in the garden.

Appreciate any input in advance :p

Tax scam or fair do's?

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and he told me the following ( as I may be in the same boat , I wondered if anybody knew anything about this ).

A friend of his mother’s was the beneficiary of a Life Trust ( I think that is what he said it was called ), which meant the she received the dividends/ interest from the trust whilst she was alive.

She only outlived the person who left her this by two years, and received just a couple of thousand during this period. The trust is valued at about £130,000 , and her estate now has to pay an apportioned amount of the Inheritance tax on the whole 130k (40k) even though the actual value of the trust stays with the family, meaning they only pay a small amount of their inheritance tax, about £10k . This doesn’t seem right to me. Is it just a tax avoidance trick, which is advantageous to the ultimate beneficiaries

Does this mean that anyone who feels they might predecease some innocent dupe, can use them for tax reasons?

Behind the goal - Valencia Home

For our home game against Valencia we have worked with the club to make Block E of the Lower Holmesdale the main vocal section - open to everyone.

Obviously it's only a friendly so will naturally not be as energetic or as constantly loud as the vocal section was at Wembley behind the goal, but hopefully there'll be enough Palace in there that are up for creating a big of an atmosphere and make the most out of our home friendly.

Hope to see everyone in there and start off the season on a positive note, welcoming a few new players and show our current players that the Palace support are up for another big season :p
