Hi,
Long post warning
Calling on the BBS fount of all knowledge and this time the topic is security cameras.
We have good quality CCTV cameras (Samsung) around the outside of the house and TBH it was a bit of a whim when we put them in as part of a wider home automation and house renovation but they have been extremely useful. But in truth they are more about knowing what is/has happening/happened than capturing facial detail of any 'unwanted visitors'.
We are hardly in a crime ridden area but since having the cameras and a perimeter detection system we have realised that four or five times a year at least 'someone' walks down our drive and tries car door handles or pokes around and we have had the police out. (Even discovered neighbours having a good old nosy :)) The cameras are sited high enough to get coverage and to be safe from attack and this means that the images you get don't really capture an image that you could recognise. This is a bit of a surprise but if you look at most of the CCTV images on police sites the internal ones are the best but pretty crap still.
So - I was looking to add something else and I am looking for wisdom, experience and ideas.
To gain access you have to walk down the drive past the garage and I was hoping to locate something in that frontage/wall/door/etc. that detects movement and takes a high resolution photo and.or video in day and night (without flash). The point of this though has to be capturing a recognisable photo. Ideally this would be networked etc but TBH it really only needed for reference after discovery by the main systems and would always be after the event. i.e. I am more likely to be looking for a baseball bat than a family photo during the event!
I don't think this is likely to be that common but I know the BBS knows all and thought I should ask here. Meanwhile I will continue to trawl online. That experience so far has been difficult because everything is HD this and that but patently is worse than what I already have :(
Bring it on .....
