Footballers and 'Form'

jeudi 10 décembre 2015

Given the masses of cash, sports science and expertise in the football business, its surely intriguing that professional footballers suffer dips in Form. Even the very best of them have a dry patch when everything goes pear shaped.

Is it partly psychology, fatigue, injuries, wear and tear, lack of game-time, loss of confidence or motivation ?

In my opinion, Speroni was in fantastic form until he hurt his finger. And has he yet returned to those dizzy heights ? At other clubs you see footballers who are 100% fit yet still suffer a dip in form. Andrev Shevchenko went from being the hottest thing in Europe to a Millwall standard striker (ha ha ha :sob: ).

Players suffering bereavements or other family issues will often be put on the bench as a precaution. Other players suffer a family tragedy and play better than normal. Fixture congestion got Everton last season...where the whole team is fatigued and worn out. Not the same as Form however. Messi and Ronaldo seem to be in a very different league than the Ballotelli's of the footballing Form world. What does it mean, Form ? Will future research eradicate this problem ? is it a blessing or a curse ? what can you do to affect the form of your opposition while protecting your own ? who cares ?
