The Magnificent Seven

samedi 4 avril 2015

I rarely start threads and although it’s been noted by me and some on other threads, I think that this point should be given particular recognition.

Through the many years of watching Palace, I have enjoyed many successful combinations which have lasted longer than just a season. Wright and Bright, Thorn and Young, Sansom and Hilaire, Thomas and Gray. There have been many more terrific players committed to the Red n’ Blue and I’m sorry if I’ve missed a combination also deserving of being mentioned.

Never though in all my time has there ever been SEVEN players playing so consistently well for so long in the Palace First Team. These seven won us promotion and are still doing CPFC proud two years later in a higher division too. Amazing!

It’s strange how things have worked out for this group. Injury. Suspensions. Extended international call-ups and for one, a transfer away. All of this group have been affected by managerial upheaval at Selhurst Park, not just once but three times. It is testament to each individual that they have overcome these professional challenges and for us, 'The Faithful' good fortune that each are still here.

There are some games to go and Palace still need to secure a place in the Premier League for next season but I expect that the last game of this season will perhaps be the final opportunity to appreciate this group all together. Individual ambition and team development will probably take its course and like everything in life, all things must pass. Whatever the outcome, we have I think been wonderfully fortunate to have been served so well and successfully for so long.

Julian Speroni. Joel Ward. Damien Delaney. Mile Jedinak. Yannick Bolasie, Glenn Murray. Wilfried Zaha. Palace Heroes Forever.
