- we've been interested before (summer 2021) - would seem ideal Kouyate replacement if he does head off to Turkey (and Twitter oblivion).

Diop also has a Vieira vibe about him - could be a good fit for us.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Weird Unilever marketing campaign

This campaign from Unilever in Uganda must be like a return to the 70s. The item from Der Spiegel must surely be the German equivalent of an April Fool’s joke? If your husband is cheating you need to cook better type message. To view the link you have to Register or Login

Makes a bit of a lie the usual crap posted about dear old Selhurst.

Please also enjoy Brighton's 79/92 status.

Realistically, who do you think will go down this season?

dimanche 29 mai 2022

In my opinion it could be two clubs whose names start with a B: Bournemouth and Brentford.

Sadly, Brighton may do OK.

God knows who else will get dragged in - just hope it's not us and I don't think it will be.

Forest might but maybe they'll get some investment now they are back in the PL?

Forest in the PL

Will Forest in the PL cause a few problems for us?

Discuss.

Play a song by people you know personally.

Well, in this ever shrinking world where everyone communicates, I've recently realised that people I know really well have their music out there. So I thought it might be an interesting exercise to see how this works and the way we can share things these days.

So Here's a track by my next door neighbour's band..... Jape Squad. Get to listen to them practise quite a bit.

Most common MoMs

Because I am very boring and have too much time on my hands I have gone through all the MoM threads for the season and totalled up who came first, second, and third place.

I've then awarded 4 points for first, 2 for second, and 1 for third. The results are in the attached image, with the top three being

1. Gallagher
2. Mitchell
3. Zaha

When playing 4-3-3 with players in a position they frequently play, our best team has a surprise up top and in goal

Butland
Ward Guehi Anderson Mitchell
Hughes
McArthur Gallagher
Olise Benteke Zaha

Rumour: Malcolm Ebiowei

Manchester United and Newcastle join the race to sign Tottenham and Crystal Palace target Malcolm Ebiowei after the Derby starlet impressed under Wayne Rooney
  • Derby starlet Malcolm Ebiowei is wanted by a host of top-flight club this summer
  • United and Newcastle have joined Spurs and Crystal Palace in the transfer race
  • Ebiowei's emergence was one of the only bright spots of Derby's poor season
  • The 18-year-old's short-term deal at the relegated club will expire next month

Derby starlet Malcolm Ebiowei is at the centre of a four-way battle as he edges closer to a decision on his future.

Manchester United and Newcastle have joined Tottenham and Crystal Palace by showing interest in the exciting 18 year-old attacker.

Ebiowei's emergence was one of the bright spots of Derby's season which ended with relegation to League One following their brave fight to beat the drop after being hit with a 21-point deduction.

But his short-term deal expires next month and Ebiowei, who has played for England and Holland at youth level, is set to leave the Pride Park club.

Previously in the academies of Arsenal and Rangers, Ebiowei, predominantly a winger who has also played through the middle, joined Derby last year.

He spent the first half of the campaign in the Rams' youth setup, scoring seven times in seven under-18 appearances and also featuring for their U23s.

Ebiowei then became one of the youngsters Wayne Rooney turned to during Derby's relegation fight.

He shone when he stepped up from youth football and was given his first taste of senior action, making 16 appearances during the second half of the season.

Following one of his eye-catching displays at Coventry, Rooney said: 'He has got enormous ability. 'He's brave, he's not afraid to take players on, get tackled, and make mistakes.

'I thought he was excellent all game. He was the best player on the pitch. It is one of the best performances I have seen from a young player consistently for 90 minutes in a long time and he deserves that because he's worked so hard. His attitude is incredible and he's an exciting young player.'

Cinch - New sponser

Happy with this one - give two shits etc.

Remember there being uproar at the last.

Olise’s best position: on the right, or as a No 10?

Just wondering where people think he will end up. I guess he is similar to Foden in that he is one of the Premier League’s best attackers and he is very young, and left footed. Maybe he will also play wide left, eventually?

My Fan Zone TV - Myfanzonetv@outlook.com

mercredi 25 mai 2022

Palace Fans,

We are looking for volunteers who are keen to be part of a new fan only media concept, which we are naming MyFanZoneTV.

A football fan type Gogglebox where both sets of fans will be interacting over a video recording, whilst watching their team live.
The best parts of the 90 mins will be edited into highlights and uploaded to YouTube and other social media platforms.

Participants must ideally be bubbly, confident and have a certain character but more importantly feel comfortable in front of camera, as well as being at ease with interacting with the opposition fan, against the team your club are playing.
You must be vocal when watching the game as you will need to be interacting.

Participants must be over 16 years of age, and available for home and away games to be watched live on tv.
Although we are aware this may not be achievable (due to individuals having season tickets and commitments etc), we may need reserve and third reserve places to cover premiership games throughout the season.

This is very early stages, but we are hoping to run a few trial runs through the summer, and have a selection of fans from each club within the premiership to participate from the beginning of 2022/23 season.

If you or anyone you know may be interested, or you require more information, then please get in touch on the email below.

MyFanZoneTV@Outlook.com

We look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks,
MyFanZoneTV

Impact of 5 substitutes next season

What are people's thoughts on 5 subs from next season and how it may affect us?The consensus was I think that 5 subs would favour the "big clubs" and I guess that stands up.

Thinking about us though my immediate thought is that it may provide an incentive to keep the likes of JRS with us and not out on loan as it could be a vehicle for providing game time for the promising.

Are there any other possible ramifications? I'd say we have had an "impact" bench for a good part of the season anyway with the likes of Olise, Schlupp, Eze and Edouard benched as often as not. Do we have one of the stronger benches around? Should we be looking to strengthen in that area and not simply in "first team"? By which I mean it may make sense to get players in who may not quite be there yet.

Rumour: Sam Johnstone

Was having a quick flick through Skybet looking at transfer odds and noticed we are 1/2 favourites to sign Johnstone which seems surprising given there has been very little written on our interest and seemed like he was going to Spurs.

The most recent semi-credible article I could find was Alex Crook from Talksport saying we are interested.

Palace are also pursuing a deal for out-of-contract West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

His current odds according to Skybet:

Crystal Palace 1/2
Manchester united 4/1
West Ham 8/1
Middlesborough 10/1
Newcastle 12/1
Fulham 16/1
Leeds 16/1
Sheffield United 16/1
Tottenham 25/1

Wireless Earbuds - without noise cancelling

I am after, but stuggling to find, earbuds which do not have noise cancelling. Looking at a budget of south of £100. Seems as though “noise cancelling” is a key feature of every single product, so any pointers would be very much appreciated.

Season 2021-2022 Your thougths

So we now we are at the end of the season, what are your thoughts reflections about the past season?
As much as I think Roy did a great job I was glad he went last season, I was at the point I could no longer bear to watch the football we were playing. Giving the job to PV was a massive risk , the amount of players we brought in also was a risk, however it has been brilliant. yes we have been naïve in certain games, Arse and Brighton spring to mind. The FA cup was kind to us, we were very poor against Stoke and if Andros had not got injured the game against Everton might have been different. All in all we have had a good year and now have an excellent platform to build from for next season, I am looking forward to Eze and Oliise being even better.

England June Fixtures

Squad announcement at 2pm this afternoon ahead of Nations League fixtures in June.

Saturday 4th at 5pm - away to Hungary
Tuesday 7th at 7:45pm - away to Germany
Saturday 11th at 7:45pm - home to Italy
Tuesday 14th at 7:45pm - home to Hungary

Mitchell is likely to be retained especially with the injuries to Chillwell and Shaw. There is some uncertainty about Guehi though due to his niggling ankle injury.

Fan Pictures and Videos from: After match parade

lundi 23 mai 2022

Just got back home (slow trains!) and here's a few pics from after Sunday's match.

Summer Transfer Window 2022

The big deals have their own threads but I saw this transfer that will probably go under the radar.

Quote:

Aston Villa have signed French midfielder Boubacar Kamara from Marseille on a five-year contract.

Kamara, 22, will join the Midlands club on a free transfer when his Marseille contract expires at the end of June.

He is the second player to join Villa this month after Philippe Coutinho made his loan from Barcelona permanent.

Season ticket waiting list

dimanche 22 mai 2022

Hi
im trying to purchase the season ticket waiting list for my daughter via my account
she is added on my family list
but when i add her and go to the basket its just saying payment details missing
with no option to add them or pay ?
any help please

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

Probably deserves his own thread.

Thought he played well today, looked tired early on but was dangerous at times. He drew a lot of fouls and that meant we never really got to see what his crosses and deliveries were like. Hopefully after a full pre season he can kick on. Definitely want him in the first team squad competing with Olise for that right side spot.

Also have to point out that I love the Rak-Sakyi song.

Ambulance on Selhurst Road

Does anyone know anything about the guy who was being treated on Selhurst Road near the Victory Club after the game? I think I heard one of the policemen say he'd been hit by a car

Discussion: Players from the relegated clubs

So, is there anybody we could or should pick up from Norwich, Watford or Burnley?

Watford
Sarr hasn’t done a great deal this year, wasn’t impressed watching him against us. Is he worth a look though? Do we need a wide player? Dennis is the other one I guess but hasn’t been as effective second half of the season. Do they have anybody else that could be interesting?

Norwich
They’ve been largely hopeless. Pukki might be a good back up option. Very decent goals return in a poor side. Is Max Aarons worth looking at? Assume he may go higher?

Burnley
Tarkowski and Mee are both out of contract I believe? I think one of them might be good for us, to use in games like Everton when we are facing balls lumped in our box. Wouldn’t displace Guehi or Andersson but surely good options for a 3rd CB. McNeil good but it’s not a position we should prioritise. Would Weghorst do well in our system? Don’t think he an upgrade on JPM personally. Cornet looks good but not really what we need.

Any other suggestions?

Supporters Trust meeting with the club (17/5/2022)

Minutes/notes from the latest Supporters Trust meeting with the club are available online at

Not personally involved in this, but was notified that the notes are there by a member and thought people would be interested.

For what its worth the Trust seem to be highlighting a long list of box office 'issues' every meeting (and that is being diplomatic). The box office IMO is the single most frustrating part of the 'customer experience' for me, but fully get that for some people it might well be fine and all they care about is that their half time cup of tea is nice and hot.

Up the Palace and enjoy the last game of the season.

Suggestion: Dan-Axel Zagadou

Announced that he's leaving Borussia Dortmund on free.

22, 6ft 5, absolute monster of a centre back and decent on the ball.

Only issue is that he's been quite injury prone but I think he's worth taking the risk given we have Guehi and Andersen who would still probably be first choice.

West Ham and Newcastle are reportedly interested but with Vieira and him possibly knowing Said Aigoun from the PSG academy we might have a shot.

Suggestion: Gavin Bazuna

How to solve cement a back 5 for a decade? Get this lad before Southampton do. Premier League side Southampton have been linked again with a move for Ireland international Gavin Bazunu. Has been great internationally and on loan at Pompey from Man City. During the most recent League One campaign, Bazunu established himself as one of the most highly-rated shot-stoppers in the English Football League.

At Portsmouth, Bazunu was a near ever-present for Danny Cowley’s side, who missed out on a place in the League One playoffs. But while they missed out, Bazunu earned a lot of praise for his efforts throughout the season, with his manager going as far as suggesting the Dubliner was ‘ready’ to ply his trade in the Premier League.

“Gavin [Bazunu] is ready to play in the Premier League, I am convinced of that,” Cowley explained at the time. “It is not something I would say lightly or make a throwaway comment, but I have never been more sure of anything in my life.

“He will be world-class. It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to work with him in this time and I will miss him every single minute of every single day next season.

Anyone used this to travel/get through the airport?

Everton’s fireworks antics

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Thought this was worth it’s own thread considering Everton’s fans previous antics over the past few home games. Having done the same thing against Chelsea and Brentford.

I thought because it was an evening game we’d have been travelling all the way up in the morning. But it seems they’re staying at a location outside of Liverpool then travelling in.

I think the way Everton fans have acted have only compounded everyone’s desire to see them relegated, I’d love to see them go down.

Best alternatives to Sky TV

For the past 6 years, we have had free Sky TV (one of the benefits of my wife's old job) She has just started a new job so we are sadly losing this benefit and face the prospect of forking out £100+ a month if we want to keep what we had :sob:

Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative? IS NOW TV any good?

Crystal Ball: Everton's Frank Lampard (a)

dimanche 15 mai 2022

... and this time it is personal.

Suspensions and injuries galore causing lots of fatigue given the postponed matches that they have been catching up on. A Goodison Park full of Scousers that seem ready to implode at any minute. What could possibly go wrong?

Everton 2-0 Palace
Holgate (average goal), Gray (fluke).

37,890

Pains me to say it but they are up for the battle, especially at home, all of their players have that edge and nasty streak to them and I seem to have watched a lot of Everton's matches this season.

Interesting to see if Macca will be about for this one plus how many clear fouls on Wilf the ref ignores compared to the soft/non fouls Richalarson wins.

I think it’s looked like there has been a 1 start a week policy for Eze since he has came back from injury. I imagine he’ll be rested for this game in preparation for the last game of the season.

We all want to see JRS and Tayo play at some point, it’s difficult to see which game, both Man Utd and Everton will be fighting for places. Both will be tough games. I reckon go for Tayo in this game and then JRS against Man Utd.

Not seen this mentioned anywhere else on here, but for me, this is the most interesting Euro final in a hell of a long time. It's so refreshing to have two peripheral teams in a final at last. Not only that there will be massive support for both teams and the obvious atmosphere and potential newsworthy outcomes of that support... that makes this final very very different to the usual Euro final.

Can't wait for this.... Poor Seville will never be the same... haven't had a final like this this Millenium afaik?

FA Cup Final 1990 - 32 years ago today!

Doesn't seem possible that it was 32 years ago today on 12th May 1990; I can remember it like it was yesterday. We were so close to what for a club like ours would have been something immortal... :sob:

A spooky thing for me was that around the start of the year - before we'd played Portsmouth in the 3rd round - I had a really vivid dream that I was watching Palace walk out at the FA Cup Final. That dream stayed with me, and when the day came, it turned out I was sitting in almost exactly the same spot at Wembley as I had been in that dream.

Still can't hear or sing Abide With Me without choking up. Shame the FA have even managed to **** that part of the day up along with most of the rest of it these days.

Obviously recorded it to watch afterwards, and still remember three things from John Motson:
1. Saying how we'd won the toss to wear our home kit and what a great kit it was;
2. "Just look at all the balloons...";
3. "Oh, what an impact by the substitute!"

God I loved that day, even with the heartbreak at the end.

Any other particular memories?

Rob Edwards confirmed as Watford manager; he was the manager that just got Forest Green Rovers promoted.

Not keen on the fact that he’s jumped ship just after getting his team promoted. Would be interesting to see what FGR fans think of it.

Stats, xG and anything else 2021/22

Came across a very interesting(at least to me) article in The Athletic on how each PL team moves the ball:

To view the link you have to Register or Login
(The last statistical series of posts we had spanned several pages of the PV general discussion thread which made me think that a dedicated thread could prove useful.)

We've all witnessed the visually improved style which places a greater emphasis on possession which has seen both our offensive and defensive numbers improve. PV's done a great job as a summary, I don't need to expand upon that.

This article has a few graphics and rankings which could spark an interesting discussion about where we are as a team, what is says about our strengths, weaknesses and areas we should be looking to improve upon next season.

I'll list the key takeaways in bullet points for clarity for those who do not have a subscription:

Main Points
  • We rank 10th for average possession at 51.5%.
  • We rank 11th for median passes per sequence of possession at 3.2 (a series of passes which ends up in an interception, the ball going out of play, dispossession, or a shot.)
  • Only 3 teams have slower build up than us (Man C, Arsenal and Brighton)
  • We rank 17th for % of passing sequences that progress into the final third with just 37% of our attempts doing so.(Man City are top by a long way at 57%)
  • We rank 18th with just 7% of our possession sequences ending in a shot. Man City have 13%. (There are a lot of teams that have 7-9% above us.)
  • We are 5th for xG/shot at 0.13. Man City (top), have 0.14

My take-aways. The cliché of "possession only counts if you do something with it" comes to mind. It's worth noting that our possession does play a big part in us preventing our opponents from creating chances. We've been very solid defensively, especially in open play this season. That being said, it seems to me that we aren't moving the ball as quick as PV would like to, this is something he alluded to in the win vs Watford. We do, however, create good quality chances, as represented by our xG/shot. The area of concern seems to be the regularity that this occurs as evidenced by just 7% of our passing sequences ending in a shot and just 37% of sequences ending in the final third. Both statistics are low relative to the rest of the league.

How to improve?
I'd argue this is a personnel issue, rather than a tactical one. Firstly, I'd be very keen to see these numbers with Olise in the team compared to when he is out of the team. His creativity is the best in the squad, but due to his age, has only played a bit part role. Next season, he will be undisputed first choice. Our lack of progression to passing sequences that end in shots could be explained by some of the more technically limited players recruited to play a different system under a different manager. Ward, Clyne, Kouyate and Ayew have played a lot this season, but a look at their profiles on FBref shows you their limitations for progressing the ball, passing accurately, and producing shot creating actions relative to others who play in their position.

FBref Profile of named players
Kouyate:

Ward:

Clyne:

Olise:

Targets for 2022/23
This ties into a Tweet CalcioCarl made about the areas we are looking at being:
RB, DM, CM (Gallagher replacement) and a GK as the high priority areas. It's clear to see how a superiorly technical DM and RB would see us progress the ball into the final third more frequently and therefor, see more of our possession sequences end in shots. The average quality of shots we take appears to be good, it's more of a frequency thing. If we can maintain the same defensive solidarity whilst improving those things, I'm very optimistic about next season.

Burnley match - 43 years ago today

As I regress more and more in these halcyon days into reminiscing about my youth, 11th May has always been embedded in my brain as the date of THAT Burnley game back in 1979 (43 years ago...).
Too young to go myself but my Dad went with my Grandad and brought back the programme - read from cover to cover over the years with all the stats neatly fitting inside the back cover (as there were only 12 players picked in those days of course).
What a night, what a moment in our history.
And for all those young Palace supporters who know only Premier League success, this was a major milestone on the roller coaster ride that supporting Palace is all about.
Respect the history while we enjoy the present.
Swindlehurst and Walsh - legends both - that is all.

Eze has confirmed his place with a string of impressive performances as a defensive box-to-box No 8. He is very good there as a lot of us knew he would be. New DM, yes. So:

———————-DM—————-
————————————--Eze
————-??—————————

So, who do you want as the attacking No 8? There are 3 options: Gallagher (who was poor against a defensively set Watford team), Olise or a new signing? With 65% to 70% possession likely what are people’s thoughts?

CPFC vs Moan U, Manure etc.

samedi 7 mai 2022

Some have said it all season, that we would beat someone decently at some point. For all our pretty football, and it is, it's clear that our attacking unit is still very much embryonic in it's current form.

There's lots of talent there, and they will only get better!

Front line all excellent today; Edouard needs a goal for confidence.

But, and the big but is, can we make the Moan U game the one that we score a hatful please?

Am very excited about next season.

Arthur Waite Fight - W Block

What on earth was going on at the Arthur Waite today at W Block?

Few moments before kick off, walking in at the top of the the stairs a stream of about 8 twenty something's racing past me and attacking another palace fan (I assume he was anyway) pretty violently.

Not sure what was going on, but The Athletic reporting an elderly fan got injured as a result.

Hartlepool sack Graeme Lee

Apologies if AATOT, just had a quick look.

Daresay a fair few of us have a soft spot for Hartlepool and have nothing but goodwill towards now ex-boss Graeme Lee and his wife Gemma after contributing so generously to her cancer care costs and the club paying for fans travel to Selhurst.

Sad to see he’s been let go. Good luck to him elsewhere.

Statins - side effects

The all-knowing BBS is clearly the place to go when an unbiased survey is required and I suspect there are a few on here that are helping bolster Pfizer profits.

Well, Mrs PM has been shoved onto Atorvastatin (20mg) due to
high-ish cholesterol levels. She is, of course, extremely pleased that the BBS retains an element of anonymity because she is now experiencing alternative days of constipation and diarrhea, with the latter being the most... errr... inconvenient

The link seems clear enough but we wondered if any other BBSers have experience of similar symptoms? ("...a friend of mine..." is perfectly acceptable ), whether they disappear after a time or whether another statin was prescribed instead?.

Enjoy your breakfasts and many thanks!.

Suggestion: Ismaila Sarr (Summer 2022)

It's likely that we will relegate Watford tomorrow - we only need a draw - so I thought I'd get this thread started. Sarr has done one season in the Championship, I doubt he will want to do another, and he is rumoured to be available for between £35m and £40m.

If we were to sign AWB on loan, and the holding mid Doucoure for £15m then might there be the money to do this? Sign Sarr, and he can play wide right with Ayew as cover. Then Olise could take Gallagher's place as the attacking mid if we can't do a deal with Chelsea. Sarr effecively facilitates Olise to be Gallagher's replacement. What are people's thoughts?
