I think the premier league rules say max 2 allowed at any one time ? As we have 2 already no more loans now allowed.
Terry Cooper RIP
Full back in the great Leeds side. England International played in the 1970 World Cup. But remembered by Palace fans for being beaten by Peter Taylor in 1976. One of the great full backs.
RIP Condolences to his family and friends

Rules are as follows
1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.
2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)
3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).
4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.
5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.
6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.
7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.
8 Singles and upwards accepted.
9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.
10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2
11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.
12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.
13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..
14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You cant shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.
15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher
16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)
17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Psychology & Philosophy Blog
Me and a friend have started a philosophy and culture blog and are trying to get some initial followers for our twitter (which is proving very difficult) and i'm hoping the mods allow me a one off bit of self promotion.
If you're interested in articles discussing psychology/philosophy/mental illness do a fellow palace fan a favour and drop a follow on our twitter! We are posting one blog a week and we have just released our first - a piece about "Success psychosis" and the insanities necessary for success, looking at Arnold Schwarzenegger as a case study.
Thanks to anyone who does! twitter and first blog attached

Suggestion: Ryan Sessegnon
If we don't see Hannam starting at LB on Saturday then I think it is fair to say we will need more cover in that position. Maybe worth having a conversation with Spurs about loaning Sessegnon who was at Hoffenheim last year.
We know that PV is keen to play 4-3-3 but may use 3 at the back at times and we know he is a player comfortable playing both LB and LWB. If Nuno isn't going to play him this year, could a loan be possible?

Signings needed not impressive
jeudi 29 juillet 2021
I think a lot of people are getting a little bit carried away with the signings.
The club got in a position where nearly a full team of first team players were out of contract in the same summer and many of the remaining players were over 30.
This summer is making amends for years of recruitment foolishness. We are digging ourselves out of a hole we put ourselves in.
I cannot wait for a fresh start and it's exciting to step into the unknown, but is anyone else seeing that all these signings are the ONLY thing we could do this summer? It's not an achievement, it's competence - without the signings we would be in absolute crisis mode - I don't see that as something to celebrate. Think we need to be cautious with expectations. We have serious injuries to Eze and Ferguson. Clyne and Ward are not good right back options. Only Mitchell on the left side of defence.
I will get buried for posting this but think it's a fair reading of things, although appreciate maybe 1 or 2 more will come in. I hope Vieira and the boys hit the ground running and bring the excitement and energy back to Selhurst Park on matchdays. Just wondering if these signings simply had to be made to avoid disaster and therefore is it really that big an achievement?

Lightweight
Whispers that we are nearly done in the transfer market worry me.
Are we looking to implement a possession based high press? How exactly? Is Gallagher the answer? I'm not sure. We have done some fantastic business for this window, but I feel we may have neglected a very important area. Investing in a dominant box to box midfielder. Wouldn't have been cheap of course, but I just worry that Gallagher, Luka, Jairo, McArthur et al will not be able to implement this new vision. Will we play Kouyate in midfield? He is hardly a ball player is he?

Sour Ex Brighton player
I met a guy at Goodwood races yesterday and it turned out he was Ian Chapman who played for Brighton for around 10 years from 1987. He conceded our 4th penalty in the famous 5 penalty match in which we missed 3 of ours. He was still moaning about the game , we won 2-1. He then bemoaned Brighton's luck against us last season and accused us of committing daylight robbery. How i chortled. Nice guy, though.
E scooters and lack of Police action?

So why no daily Police action, these crazy shitters that are everywhere, while the Met Police just like with the tinted front windows cars that will always cut you up, do **** all!

Rumour: Matthew Garbett
Watford, Crystal Palace and Brentford in Matthew Garbett transfer fight as New Zealand star, 19, impresses at Olympics
WATFORD, Crystal Palace and Brentford are keeping tabs on New Zealand hotshot Matthew Garbett.
The 19-year-old striker played alongside Burnley's Chris Wood in their nation's Olympic football 0-0 draw with Romania in Tokyo on Wednesday.
And scouts of the Premier League trio were impressed with London-born Garbett's display as New Zealand clinched an historic first quarter-final spot against hosts Japan on Saturday morning.
Garbett is one of the most sought-after teenagers in Europe after joining Swedish second-tier club Falkenbergs in January 2020.
That switch from NZ Central Premier League followed his stand-out displays in the 2019 Under-17s World Cup.

Joe Willock given interesting new proposal putting Newcastle transfer in doubt
Willock enjoyed a successful spell on loan at St James' Park and Steve Bruce wants him to return for 2021-20, but now the Arsenal midfielder has a decision to make with a surprise offer from abroad
Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock has been given an interesting proposal which has put his transfer to Newcastle United in doubt.
The 21-year-old scored eight times on loan with the St James' Park side in the second half of last season, becoming a fan favourite in the north east and a priority target for Steve Bruce.
Although many expected a decision to be made by now, Mikel Arteta and co are yet to confirm Willock's future amid speculation, leading to other clubs trying their luck to snap up his signature ahead of the Toon Army.
Crystal Palace have been linked as Patrick Vieira attempts to rebuild the fellow London club but an offer from abroad could see the Gunners midfielder stay in red and white while departing the Emirates.
With talks for Lyon's Jean Lucas at a standstill, Monaco are looking at alternative midfield options.
The Ligue 1 outfit are said to be looking to add another midfielder to supplement pairing Aurelien Tchouameni and Youssouf Fofana after their success under former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac last term.
Willock has featured in Arsenal's pre-season friendlies but is reportedly in talks with Monaco over a move.
Willock has featured in Arsenal's pre-season friendlies but is reportedly in talks with Monaco over a move.
Kovac guided Monaco to third place and a Champions League qualification spot, where they will face Czech Republic side Sparta Prague over two legs next month.
In May, Gunners manager Arteta was asked whether the midfielder was part of his future plans and the Spaniard responded: "Yes. He will be back with us.
"We will have those conversations with him and plan the next years for him."
However, Willock may not be glad to hear of Arsenal's mooted transfer plans.
With Martin Odegaard potentially returning - who came to the Emirates midway through the campaign as the academy product headed north - and links with the likes of Ruben Neves and Houssem Aouar coming after the club's capture of box-to-box man Albert Sambi Lokonga, minutes under Arteta could be hard to come by.
Speaking after Newcastles draw against Rotherham on Tuesday, Bruce said: "Ive said many times now, hes Arsenals player.
"Joe has to decide but there has to be a cut-off point where we cant wait forever.
"We have one or two other options and it would be wrong if we didnt."
The Toon Army gaffer affirmed: "Joe is our first choice and we are encouraged to keep bashing away.
"There is a cut-off point, though."
How there isn't a thread about him already, I don't know?!
Go get him Pat & Doug

Speculation: Alex Iwobi
Few Twitter whispers (yes I know) going about that we have shown a little bit of interest in Iwobi. Certainly not a popular figure at Everton, but you can't see them cutting their losses after their initial outlay. You'd think more a potential loan rather than a buy, but with the Vieira link it wouldn't surprise me if there is a little enquiry going on.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi - Discussion.
Well, things certainly seems to moving quickly for Jes. Seemed like only yesterday he signed his first pro contract and now he's scoring (albeit in a friendly) for the first team. Pat has indicated he'll be in and around the first team squad. The boy has the world at his feet and seems to have the right attitude to go further.
I genuinely hope we get to see a lot more of him this season. I, we and he will probably know it will be in short time appearances and spaced out appearances at that I would think. Blooding a player in his position (I would think) must be the easiest position with the lowest risk.
How do we think he'll progress this season?

Marc Guehi
Now hes signed I couldnt see if he had his own thread on this group - Mods please merge if there is an older one than the past couple of weeks?
BBC website has an article on break out players for this season and includes Marc..
Marc Guehi is emblematic of a changing of the guard at Crystal Palace, from the mature, experienced squad under Roy Hodgson to a younger one with burgeoning promise led by Patrick Vieira.
Regarded as one of the most promising centre-backs in the country, 21-year-old Guehi joined this summer from Chelsea for a fee believed to be about £18m and has not come to sit on the bench.
After two impressive loan spells at Swansea in the Championship, his playing time would have been limited at Stamford Bridge, but at Palace his combination of physical strength and technical ability fits the bill perfectly.
With a number of senior first-team figures having left the club, Guehi will line up alongside other young, promising recent recruits at Selhurst Park, including forward pair Jean-Philippe Mateta and Michael Olise.

Portuguese authorities investigating Wolves transfer
Remember when Porto sold a relatively unknown player for £35m to Wolves?
According to their latest accounts Porto only received about 25 so less than £23m of that total.
Mendez id known to have taken 7m, 3m was paid to the company owned by the players father leaving an unexplained shortfall in the transfer fee.
Regardless of any wrongdoing there I would not be happy as a Wolves fan to know 10m was paid to the players dad and taken by Mendez!

The effect of social media on sport in 2021
I post this for two reasons…
Firstly because I think it’s a perceptive, disturbing and interesting glimpse into the pressure felt by professional athletes in 2021
And secondly because the author gets right on WCB’s tits.
For those in sport today, pressures are untenable amid an endlessly hostile kind of unregulated social experiment
Simone Biles withdrew from the women’s team gymnastics final on Tuesday, citing mental health concerns.
There are so many well-worn quotes about sport and pressure. Pressure makes diamonds. Pressure is for tyres. The greatest pressure is the pressure we put on ourselves. People often say cliches exist because they’re true. Quite a lot of the time they’re also bullshit.
But then, there has never been sporting pressure quite like this. Or indeed a shared public space like the one we have now: endlessly hostile, endlessly reverent, unceasingly present.
Keith Miller famously said that pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse. The point being, when you’ve fought in a world war, pressure isn’t playing Test cricket in the 1950s. Well, Keith, the world has changed. And in the process we seem to have created a particular kind of 24-hour rolling hell for our superstar athletes.
At times this can look like some kind of unregulated social experiment. Be brilliant, constantly. Give us that thing we crave. And yes, you will be judged. You will be diced and dissected to the most minute degree. You will be asked to carry our hopes and fears, to embody our politics, to mean something, and to become even here a kind of commodity. This is unsustainable.
Naomi Osaka has already told us this, if we care to listen. Anyone can lose a tennis match, particularly an Olympic tennis match at the end of a strange, disjointed schedule during a strange, disjointed period in the life of planet Earth. She was gracious in defeat by the world No 42 Marketa Vondrousova.
Asked whether pressure was a part of it, she had the self-possession to avoid giving a definite answer. What words do you really want from me? How many billions of people are hanging, in real time, on the nuances of my answer? What kind of space have we made here? All of these might have been reasonable responses.
Osaka, who knows this world better than anyone because it is her world, eventually said: “Yes and no.” She suggested her recent mental health break hadn’t helped her performance. The question answers itself. Here is a young tennis player who has taken a mental health break, in part to avoid being asked painful questions, who is now answering painful questions about her mental health break.
Vondrousova spoke more plainly: “I can’t imagine that kind of pressure. She is the face of the Olympics.” As is Simone Biles, who has also taken a moment to breathe. Biles is a four-times Olympic champion and as tough a competitor as it’s possible to be. Nobody gets near her level, never mind the extra barriers she has had to vault, without being both of those things.
But Biles took a time out on Tuesday, and did so with grace. She didn’t have to. She doesn’t owe us more grace. She has given plenty already. There really doesn’t have to be a reason why Simone Biles might feel a little frayed, a little overexposed. A kind of violence is being applied to these people, and it is important to recognise the novelty of this.
Lose a match if you’re, say, John McEnroe in 1984, and you can disappear for a while. You can go back to your apartment and take the phone off the hook. The pressures you feel are tame, analogue celebrity pressures. There is no toxic white noise chasing you across every room, every space, every device in your home. Until very recently athletes could shrink a little, suffer in private, and emerge with only a dim shared memory of their last appearance on that stage.
Not now. Every part of your existence is public property. Biles and Osaka, these astonishingly talented women, are 24 and 23 respectively, and have lived their adult lives through this voracious digital culture barefoot, twiddling a racket, presented without a protective filter. There is no skin thick enough to shake that off indefinitely, no sense of self so powerfully detached it can get through this unbruised.
And naturally now that we have caught a glimpse of this pain there will be blame. Certainly many aspects of the mainstream media look joyless and unpleasant in this reflected light. Osaka has spoken of her struggle to answer difficult personal questions in public. Tom Daley was asked about the death of his father in victory on Monday night and spoke with a startling clarity that he owed to nobody and didn’t have to give. Imagine being asked that question in painful defeat, or when you just didn’t want to talk at all.
And yet to point the exculpatory finger of blame solely at the people holding the mics would be deeply dishonest. The shared digital voice of social media platforms carries its own far heavier weight, and will only expand and multiply from here. We all know this darkness. Imagine having that worst day, the one where mistakes are amplified and unkind words begin to bite. For the likes of Biles or Osaka, multiply that poison, that loss of self, by about five billion. What do we plan to do with this power? How are we going to behave here?
Plus of course Big Sport has a part in this pressure. So many athletes emerge from an industrialised version of their sport, a system that isn’t play or enjoyment, but a machine designed for winning. How is that supposed to play out at the current Olympics when athletes have been isolated, unable to train, and asked to emerge suddenly into the light and perform? Jade Jones gave a deeply moving interview in the bowels of the Makuhari Messe Hall on Sunday night after her defeat in the taekwondo, where she basically spoke about feeling vulnerable, isolated and unable to connect with her family.
It is easy to say that financial rewards and public exposure are offered in return for this, that to show any liking for either is to be condemned instantly as a charlatan, and ordered to suffer whatever the world may throw. Some will suggest these athletes should disconnect from the grid, become monkish, reclusive figures – or just become tougher, able to walk through this noise.
But the world isn’t like that any more. It is instead a place of unceasing noise, reverence, poison, expectation. And frankly sport looks a little done in this light. One thing is certain; the only people who really understand this world are those who are living through it in front of us. Time perhaps simply to listen.

Rumour: Will Hughes
Just been told by the in-laws, who are all Watford, that all9there is a lot of talk their end that we are in with a very good shout of signing Hughes from them.
First I've seen or heard of it, so can't say how true this is.

New England U-21 Manager
Surprised by this but might do well
Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Lee Carsley has been appointed as England Under-21s head coach. Carsley replaces Aidy Boothroyd, who stood down in April after the team finished bottom of their group at the European Championship.
It was the fifth time in six tournaments the under-21s had exited a competition at the group stage.
Carsley, who played for Everton and Derby County, will be assisted by ex-England player Ashley Cole.

Palace V Charlton 27/7/2021
So tonight the White & Blue Army take on some near neighbours.:lux::lux::lux:
Could peaceful fan action be helpful with regard to Sainsbury's / Main Stand?
Obviously a lot of the details are not publicly known, but if it is true that Sainsbury's are being unreasonable in their financial demands over the Main stand development, do people think that protest and direct action might be a useful development?
The demo outside Lloyds Bank comes to mind as a moment where fan voice played a part in off-the-field affairs.
Some obvious caveats -
Anything that happened would have to have some indication from the club that it wasn't likely to simply further entrench the problem.
Any action would need to be disciplined and peaceful in nature.

Well done once again Wilf, top lad, Palace hero.
The Ivorian forward is helping kids in South London develop their football skills during this summer vacation
Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has announced the launch of his football academy in England on Monday.
The 'Wilfried Zaha Academy' will start operations in South London this summer with only kids between the ages of 5 to 12 allowed to enrol for the football camp.
Zahas gesture is believed to be one of the ways he is giving back to Croydon a community in South London where he grew up after he left Abidjan with his family at a tender age.

Discussion: Right Back / Joel Ward
dimanche 25 juillet 2021
I really hope we can get a quality right back as while I appreciate what Joel Ward has done for us, I feel we need a quicker and better crosser of the ball.
To me we are too weak in this position.

Obtaining Probate
For anyone who has gone through this process in recent times you will probably understand what a nightmare it is. This no doubt pertains to any inter-action with a government department due to Covid. My wife and her sister are the executors so I was doing the donkey work.
From my point of view it appears something that most people can do themselves rather than paying solicitors or any third parties. The online process is fairly simple, although with any online process the system needs to be up and running 24 hours a day. I am sure I am not the only person who has started an online application for it to disappear when you look for an additional piece of information.
As regards probate you need to initally ascertain the value of the deceased's estate. Unless they have an extensive portfolio of investments that should generally be a fairly easy process. We did get a couple of valuations on my mother-in-laws flat but I could have just looked at what was on sale locally and come up with a number.
Given the flat was cleared there was no value on the contents. Intrinsic things (gold / jewellery) were clearly a bit more difficult to value although as there was a mention in the will we had to put some value down. The whole idea is to get under the inheritance tax threshold, but with current house prices that is difficult for the lucky ones. Fortunately there was a carry forward of IH from the father-in-law so that put us well under. Also if the property goes direct to the deceased's children that can be used to offset IH.
Presumably once in a while the powers that be may ask you for some evidence of your valuations but if you are well under the IH threshold I am sure they have bigger fish to fry.
Once inheritance tax is confirmed you can then complete the rest of the process online. Once acknowledged you need to send them the original will. Do not take out any staples when you photocopy it and make sure you pay to get the letter tracked. So for me this was all completed in February but in the knowledge that we shouldn't chase for at least 8 weeks.
A few weeks later we receive a message that we haven't sent the will. Rang and e-mailed and sent them Post Office confirmation that they had received it two days after they asked us to send it. They then queried a change of one of the executor's surnames which was instantly sorted as they had re-married. A couple of weeks later we receive a message that the codicil was missing an attestation clause. Basically that the codicil was signed and witnessed by all parties at the same time. Admittedly the codicil problems were all my fault as I drew uo the document to save on any solicitor's fees. All it did was to leave a lump sum to each of the grandchildren, so hardly a major change in the overall scheme of things but a lesson learned.
To rectify this they needed confirmation from the witnesses. One was dead but fortunately one was still living. I was able to contact them and pass on their details to the Probate Office. After 2 weeks I rang the witness and they had heard nothing. So back to e-mail and trying to ring them. It seems early in the morning is the bext time otherwise it is a war of attrition hanging on for at least 30 to 45 minutes. Eventually my wife made contact to be told they would update the file and send a letter to the witness.
This was all done and sfter a few more weeks my sister-in-law, who is one of the executors, decided to become involved. She eventually realised that my tales of woe were all true so she put in a complaint. She was told that the Probate Office was only dealing with files received prior to 22 March so 'we were in the system'.
Subsequent chasing by my sister-in-law failed to get us anywhere so this week I decided to write a letter on their behalf which I was going to copy into the Daily Mail (I know!!). I asked the wife to ring the Probate Office one last time. After almost giving up she got through. It seemed that no one could actually pull up the file and tell waht the latest postion was. After almost 2 months they were now dealing with applications received prior to 29 March. What counted as an application we have no idea. Was it the original online one sent in February or the subsequent witness statement sent in April.
So the wife says that she wants to make another official complaint. After some delay she is aked various question including; what impact has this had on you? - 6 months to sort out a probate is unacceptable - we have a young lady wanting to buy the mother-in-laws flat who has now missed out the stamp duty holidya costing her several thoudsand pounds. How can we resolve this issue? - the wife lost it at this point. Do your f'ing job, but she was much politer.
This morning she received an email; saying that the matter would be investigated but this would need time. This afternoon she received confirmation that probate had been granted.
I can perhaps understand their initial message that you shouldn't chase them until 8 weeks after confirming that they have received your initial application. After that it would appear that you have to do all the running and be prepared to hassle and chase them all the way through the process.

Criminal Injury Compensation - advice
A few weeks ago my son was assaulted by two men and suffered a fractured skull and bleed on the brain. He was rushed to St Georges for emergency surgery.
Thankfully as far as we can tell hes making a complete recovery and hes been signed off by the physio and occupational health who are satisfied with his brain and cognitive functioning. He may have some permanent damage in one ear and he has a horseshoe sized scar on the side of his head where they peeled back his scalp after which he had 37 staples inserted.
The two people that did this handed themselves in and the case is being progressed by the police under a charge of GBH.
Its been mentioned to us that we should pursue some kind of civil compensation case against them (once formally sentenced etc), but we have no idea whether this is possible and if it was where to start.
We have applied to the Govts criminal injuries compensation authority, but as far as I can see the awards are quite modest.
I wouldnt ordinarily advocate ambulance chasing, but to see what these things did to my boy means if possible wed like to investigate it. We also dont yet know if there will be any long term mental health impact.
Thanks.

Steve Cooper
Well he's parted company with Swansea according to reports.
Wasn't a favourite for the Palace job but I wonder if he'll turn up here as a coach/assistant manager?
He'd be a shoo-in for the manager job if we do well and PV buggers off to pastures new.
Good coach apparently as Marc G. would probably attest so why not?

Who else is introducing someone to Palace this season?
Not for the first time in my life, but taking new girlfriend of 6 months+ to Ipswich Saturday for her first flavour of Palace.
She's been a die hard Chelsea fan for the last 15 years and knows her stuff football wise.
I've informed her that we are a friendly, vocal bunch with a sense of humour. She's agreed to travel with me on occasions this season and has a Gold membership card coming in her own name.
Fingers crossed she sees the light and permanently switches allegiance.

Online Estate Agents
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has much experience in using an online estate agent to sell their property and if there are any pros or cons with using one of them over a traditional high street agent.
Obviously saving 2-3k in commission does sound quite appealing and being a bog standard one bedroom flat in Penge I am hopeful I won't have too many issues with selling as it would be ideal for a first time buyer in the 250k territory who wants to live close to London.
I've had Purple Bricks do a valuation but have read a few horror stories in terms of booking viewings being problematic. Yopa are coming tomorrow. Nested came on Monday but I can't quite work out exactly what they offer - they want 1.5% commission but seem to have all these other services on top such as being your 'personal buying agent'.
Cheers,
Rich.

Pros and Cons?
I'm leaning towards giving The Ridge a try. Pretty expensive, but good reviews and cheap versions seem to have a lot of issues that The Ridge have Engineered out.
Always used a leather wallet, but not as bad as George Costanza's. In this day and age where everything is on the smartphone they do seem a bit obsolete. It still feels like a leap of faith though to make the change.

Do we need another left back? (Poll included)
With PVA seemingly off, I think we defo need another LB. Mitchell is decent but young and raw and Hannam and Schlupp can cover but I still feel this is an area we really need to strengthen in.
What are the BBS's thoughts? Can we get by with that we have or not? If not, any realistic suggestions for players that can play this position that we could get?
(p.s sorry about the wording of the poll, hopefully you get what I meant! If a mod can edit this I'd appreciate it)

Walsall v Palace Match Thread
Hi All,
I couldn't see a thread for today's first Pre Season game v Walsall.
Anyone else stupidly paid £14.99 for the pre season bundle package to watch the games on Palace TV? I have...
Just hoping for no injuries and hoping to see some of the new players.

Gad! The heat, and those damn tubes.
Baffled Bob mentioned how bad the heat on tubes are. In Victorian times they were apparently cold.
Heres why they are hot and why its probably not gonna change:

Arsenal transfer news: Crystal Palace, Brighton and Brentford enter race for Reiss Nelson
A trio of Premier League sides want to exploit Nelson's expiring contract
A trio of Premier League clubs are targeting a move for Reiss Nelson with time running out for Arsenal to make a decision on the young winger's future.
Crystal Palace, Brentford and Brighton have joined a growing list of suitors for England Under 21 international Nelson, including several teams in the Bundesliga and Greek giants Olympiacos.
Nelson is out of contract in less than 12 months and has been offered an extension by the Gunners with a view to being loaned out for the 2021-22 campaign. However with no imminent sign of an agreement Arsenal face the prospect of cashing in for whatever price they can get this summer or risk losing him on a free at the end of the campaign. Nelson would be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England from the start of 2022.
One of the most highly regarded players to come out of Arsenal's Hale End academy in recent years, Nelson has found game time hard to come by particularly since the signing of Willian increased Mikel Arteta's options in wide areas. The 21 year old made just two Premier League appearances last season -- indeed he was only named in the matchday squad six times -- and has not started a top flight match since scoring in a 2-1 win over Liverpool in July 2020.
The promise Nelson showed on loan at Hoffenheim in the 2018-19 season means that there are several clubs in Germany who would be prepared to make a move for the youngster though they may be prepared to hold firm until next year, when they could strike an early agreement for his services without having to pay Arsenal a transfer fee.

NEW TRANSFER POLICY
The new transfer policy is fantastic compared to the previous 4 years but why the sudden change ?.A clue was given in the interview with Parish in which he stated effectively that the 3 key people involved ie Parish Dougie and the manager were now all on the same page as regards which players to sign. This confirms constant rumours that DF was constantly finding a lot of undiscovered gems in the lower leagues ,Parish would vote in favour only for Hodgson to block it.One example apparently was Ollie Watkins who DF wanted to sign from Exeter for buttons only for Hodgson to block it.instead Hodgson wanted to sign Danny Welbeck (for more money) but DF and Parish blocked that
How positive are you about the new season?

Calling BBS Engineers
I've got a problem and would welcome a solution.
It's a simple (you would have thought) matter of connecting a kitchen tap to a Hozelock hose. Here, is a picture of the tap...
The issue is this; there does not appear to be a standard tap->hose connector on the market that fits, and I have done a hell of a lot of googling (even bought a couple). The outlet of the tap is just too wide.
So, I'm thinking I might have to get one made ; the problem is, I haven't the foggiest idea how to even begin doing this. What sort of craftsman, for instance, should I be approaching? Or maybe there is a more lateral solution I haven't thought of.
Has anyone any ideas?

Ernie Moss - R.I.P.
A familiar name to Palace supporters who followed the club in our Third Division days between 1974 to 1977, Ernie Moss who played during those seasons for Chesterfield, Peterborough and Mansfield - has passed away - aged 71.
He certainly figured in some memorable games, none more so than the fabled last weekend of the 1976/77 season, when Palace had completed their season in midweek by beating Wrexham 4-2 away, climbing into the 3rd promotion place.
Wrexham needed to beat Mansfield to go up, they had actually opened up a considerable lead over Palace until the last four games of that season (two points for a win back then) - but Palace beat them home and away as well as beating Chesterfield away and Lincoln at home to narrow the gap.
Many Palace fans were in the crowd to cheer Mansfield on - it was Ernie Moss’s goal in the 89th minute that sealed the Title for Mansfield, ahead of second placed Brighton, who only managed a draw at Chesterfield and although Palace would have gone up with a draw between Wrexham and Mansfield - Ernie’s last minute winner certainly put the icing on the cake!
I’ve still got my Mansfield scarf that I swapped for a Palace one as a momento of a great day and indeed a great season.
RIP Ernie Moss.

Training Thread
Seems like there isn't a continuous training thread so perhaps we can start one here.
Here's the latest video from St George's Park, It seem as though Paddy is up there as well and I heard him say Fionn Mooney so it seems like we've got a large group of U18s/U23s too. Perhaps as I mentioned on another thread Derry will be Vieira's assistant and Paddy will take over the 23s and Powell will take the U18s?
No sign of Olise so it does seem he's injured.

Zwift & spin bike advice
Advice needed please from the keen CPFC cycling fraternity.
Im currently loving using my spin bike to cycle the world daily with Zwift. The bike is pretty basic and only measures cadence and heart rate. Is it as simple as me adding power pedals to get accurate wattage readings and enable me to really compete. Without the power reading I can only get the wattage up to 200 or so maximum by going like an absolute bastard in 3 second bursts.
Thanks in advance 👍🏻

Montes out on Loan ?
Ina recent article in the Athletic Matt Slater states that Jacob Montes who is on just a one year contract has gone to Belgian side Waasland -Beveren for a trial. Why? Is the re-assessment he is just not up to the Premier League ? Won't be much of the year left if he spends the season there. Does anyone know any more about this ?

Makes sense for Viera to tap Citeh / Arsenal for a good season long loan.
No idea how good this lad is but would cover a number of positions and bring some energy to midfield. PSG and City so good football education.

Mark Lawrenson Euros predictions
During the season Mark Lawrenson does premier league predictions, usually against celebrities. This is a terrible way to judge how knowledgeable he is as the celebs often don't take it seriously.
However, for the Euros he gave predictions along with 15 other BBC pundits. Now the tournament is over, out of 16 he came ... 16th. Why do they employ him to do this when he is so bad at it?

forum handling of pictures
Hi
I use a music forum called To view the link you have to Register or Login which always looks as if may use similar software/platforms to the BBS. One thing they have done for a while now is when someone quotes a picture or youtube etc. when it is quoted the image shrinks. This avoids having multiple versions of the same huge image which is better for the user and I am guessing disk space?
Just wondered if it was possible or a useful idea for the BBS?
Not sure if this image shows you what I mean well enough but I am guessing it's not unique. The forum is a small one and until recently funded by one enthusiast and so I can't think it's some sort of costly feature.
Anyway just an idea.

Anyone know much about the Erdivisie? This young Dutch international striker has come through the full Dutch international set up and is now getting full international caps. Hes got a goal every other game ratio for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch top flight and Monaco are interested in singing him. Hes rated at about £12 million so within our price range. Anyone seen anything of him and if so, is he the type of hot young prospect we could or should be bringing in?
England's "Glorious Failures"
Seems to be the running trend of our nation going back to the 90s that we love "the glorious failure". 1990, 1996, 2018 and now 2021. We get to the brink of doing something brilliant at a tournament, choke in some predictable fashion, but after the loss there are no real inquests, no real debate over how and why, but a lot of patting each other on the back and saying "well done boys, you'll do better next time". The problem is there's absolutely no guarantee we do better next time.
I can't help but feel these past two tournaments were a golden opportunity. I think it's relatively likely we would have lost to France in the final of 2018, but not certain, and even just making it would have stood us in better stead for the final of this tournament, which was the real prize with so much of it being played at Wembley. This time around, we made the final, we even took the lead, and Italy's equaliser only came from the scrappiest opportunity of the game. And Pickford pulled off two great saves in the shootout. We literally came within a whisker of winning this. I don't think it's good enough to simply say we were outplayed, because it was well within our grasp to win it. We had enough opportunities in the first half, added time and on penalties to have clinched it at any moment. But most people seem to be happy with what happened and conceded it was just "bad luck", rather than tactical or individual errors.
If we get to Qatar 2022 and pull off a similar level of performance we might be able to say we're building a new level of consistency for England where we could legitimately expect to make the semis at least at all of the next few tournaments. But, alternatively, I worry that the attitude of simply being content to finish 2nd-4th place could ruin us in the end. Do other major footballing nations do this, or is it simply an English thing since we have had so many years without even competing for a final? Sadly if we don't develop a killer winning mentality, our new golden generation could end up more like Belgium's - constantly falling at the final few hurdles, until they age out of contention without a trophy to show for it.

Discussion: Number one priority - a top-half prem quality midfield player
Up for discussion - but for me we have never replaced Cabaye. If we spend big this summer and back PV, it has to be a midfield player. Would love people to add suggestions here, maybe someone from the French league?
Completely love the Olise signing, but he seems more a right winger. We need a new central midfield player. Discuss.

Seen on Twitter from Palace Daily we are monitoring. Apparently has a £10m release clause, in my view should be all over this!
20 Years on the BBS
Just realised I've done 20 years plus here.....Thought I'd get time off for good behavior.
Doesn't time bloody fly!!
Thats a long while on one aspect of the net, seeing how dynamic, fickle and flighty it can be.
So is this BBS for you, your longest focal point, or is there somewhere on the Net where you have an even longer-term.
Where did that 20 years go?

Palace to win first 5 games or England to win Euros Poll
I know what Id rather have...what about you?
Suggestion: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Just a suggestion but someone mentioned Kinkladze on the Olise thread it got me wondering what on earth happened to good footballers coming out of Georgia and that sent me down a rabbit hole where I discovered …… Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Left winger. 20. Fast and tricky. Plays for Ruben Kazan in Russia. Good luck anyone who tries to pronounce his name. Sevilla and Atalanta are having a looksie.

Rumour: Kyle Bartley
Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Bartley
West Brom centre-back Kyle Bartley has emerged as an option for Newcastle and Crystal Palace to bolster their defence.
The 30-year-old has a year left on his contract at The Hawthorns and could be landed for around £3m. Palace are looking to strengthen their backline as Gary Cahill was among the players who did not renew their contract.

Luka Milivojevic 2021/22 season prospects
Obviously we are extremely unlikely to sell him with so many out of contract and he still has time left on his contract. But the chat around whether we renew Andros has got me thinking. What role do people see for Luka for the upcoming season?
He has obviously not had the greatest of times recently, and has been much maligned, but I think it’s slightly harsh. He’s played in one of the worst midfields that the Premier League has ever seen so he’s hardly had anyone around him to help. And help is what he needs: I think his legs are starting to go, I know he wasn’t the fastest when we signed him but he wasn’t this slow before. In fact, such has been his decline that some are asking for Kouyate to be transferred out of centre back, despite being one of our players of the season there, forgetting that he can’t even pass the ball out of defence under no pressure at all, let alone in the pressure cooker environment of midfield. That’s how weak we have looked in centre mid since the loss of Cabaye; I suspect some may even forget that McArthur’s legs are going, and hark loudly for him to be back in the first XI when fully fit too.
With Luka, should he be a squad player or can he still be a starter? His positioning is very good and he’s not as bad a footballer as some make out. Could he be ok for another season with the box-to-box midfielder next to him? But if not will the funds stretch to a new defensive mid with so many other positions in need of urgent attention? Will we need his experience? If we bring in Guehi for example, and play a back 4, there’s likely only to be one other experienced ‘leader’ - the other centre back in the XI. If he is not a starter we will need a new club captain. Tomkins is too injury prone to be a reliable candidate possibly? Cahill likely to not get as many games too. Which leaves Zaha, who wants away. Thoughts please.

Branding - advice needed
Not the sort done by cowboys rustling steers.
I could do with picking someone's brains on a how to create a brand using just a name and a lot of related but unbranded activity
Apologies for it all being a bit vague.
Any volunteers for a PM, email or telephone exchange?

Rumour: Sebastiaan Bornauw & Ellyes*Skhiri
Palace extra linking a Bild article saying that these two have handed in transfer requests at FC Koln amid interest from us and, yes, you guessed it, West Ham.
Bornauw is a 22 year old defender, Skhiri a 26 year old midfielder.

Euro Final, where will you be watching?
mercredi 7 juillet 2021
Luckily, for me, this is the second major England national final I'll be able to watch live and remember. Although I was just 11 years old last time. I think that 1966 game was instrumental in my awakening, following and watching live football.
I figured I'd ask the question where will you be watching this game, what local time, Country, Town, venue, home, other location will you actually be at.
Mine is still to be decided, I'll be in Cairns Queensland, flying up from Melbourne on Sunday and I don't have a clue where if any venues will be open up there on a Monday morning at 5 AM. So if anyone has any tips in that direction I'd be most grateful at this stage. I'm sure there will be one though.
So where will you be during this one in 55 years event?
I suspect Melbourne will be buzzing though, there will literally be dozens of venues down here.

Mobile data speed dropping
I have a Samsung Galaxy A10 with a Vodafone unlimited data plan. That means the data usage is unlimited, not necessarily the speed. They do three levels of plan where speed is either 2Mb/s, 10Mb/s, or unlimited and I have the 10Mb/s plan.
Usually all is good and I get good speeds. Right now it's reported (by hitting the blue button after googling "internet speed test") as 10.1Mb/s down and 7.01Mb/s up. However, a lot of the time it is below the maximum. Occasionally it slows to a crawl at under 1Mb/s.
My question is, if I upgraded to the unlimited speed plan would I only get better speeds when I am already getting good speeds? e.g. if I was currently getting 5Mb/s would I still get 5Mb/s when on an unlimited plan because the signal was weak, or would it be faster?
I don't want to ask Vodafone as they have a financial interest in getting me to upgrade, so I wouldn't trust their answer.

Given we've been tracking him it wouldn't surprise me if we were to make a move this summer. Not sure how reliable but I've been told we're trying for this.

Rumour: Morgan Rogers
Crystal Palace begin talks to bring in Man City's £7m-rated talented young forward Morgan Rogers... as new boss Patrick Vieira looks to trim down the age of his squad this summer
Crystal Palace are in talks to sign Manchester City's promising young forward Morgan Rogers.
The 18-year old was bought by City from West Brom in a deal worth up to £8million in 2019 after he earned a reputation as one of the brightest talents in the country and impressed playing against them in the FA Youth Cup.
He has continued to progress and had an impressive second half of last season on loan at League One Lincoln City, picking up the EFL young player of the month award for March, and scoring six goals in 25 appearances as they narrowly missed out on promotion.
Rogers benefited from his time under Lincoln boss Michael Appleton, who described him as: 'A proper, proper footballer on and off the pitch. He's the type of player you want to work with all the time.'
City paid £4m up front for the England U18 international and have since paid a further £750,000 of their instalments while West Brom also retain a sell on percentage.
It's understood City would want around £7m and would ask for their own sell on percentage in talks with Palace.
The Selhurst Park club have a number of new additions lined up and are going through a list of targets with new manager Patrick Vieira.
They are keen to bring down the age of their squad and had a number of experienced players out of contract.
Rogers fits the profile as they look to build a new squad to take them forward.

Terry Venables-A Man Can Dream
Sky documentary on Venables. Some good Palace stuff on it. Some annoying clips though from years after he left the club.
But worth a watch.
But worth a watch.
Suggestion: Jed Wallace
Cheap wing backup with only a year on his contract and maybe able to step up.
Speculation: Aaron Hickey
Just seen this…
Celtic are closing in on £3.5m deal for Bologna full-back Aaron Hickey a year after missing out on the former Hearts player. (Scottish Sun)
theCoach thought this was one of DFs targets and that the Bologna deal was temporary to kill off a sell on %. Wonder if this is going to resurface for us as well? We are certainly in the market for a FB.
But..as a 19 year old LB that ship may have sailed with Mitchell breaking through and Hannam and others in the wings? He has been thought to ultimately become a CM though. Seemed to do well in Italy…
Due to the suspension of regular left-back Mitchell Dijks,[20] Hickey made his first Serie A appearance on 28 September in a 4–1 win against Parma.[21] His first season at Bolgona was cut short by injury in March 2021, restricting him to 12 appearances. At the end of the season, he was nominated for the 2021 Golden Boy award.[22]

Vieira in failed Arsenal takeover Palace next?
So from todays BBC article on Vieira taking over at Palace:-
Vieira was part of a bid to buy Arsenal this summer, along with fellow Gunners legends Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp and Spotify billionaire Daniel Ek - but their bid was rejected.
So as Manager at Palace now - could he attract the same people for a Palace takeover??

How to join a grassroots side? Struggling!
Am looking to join any grassroots team in the Bromley/Croydon/Orpington area. I'm 22, 6'2 CB/RB. Played for my school and for a bit less competitively while at University but am buzzing to try and play again.
I've been trying to find ways to contact grassroots teams for a trial on To view the link you have to Register or Login - only problem is no grassroots teams has any contact details up on the website and am properly struggling to find anywhere to get started with this.
Does anyone know anybody who plays at a local grassroots level that they could put me in touch with? Or have any tips for how to do this?

Your Palace Squad with £80M
So our manager has been found and we have an alleged £80M to spend. ( Let's assume that doesn't include wages ) We have several out-of-contract players to consider.
Assuming Zaha stays, what would be your 25 man squad? ( I've gone for players we're linked with but feel free to speculate )
For me;
GAUITA
BUTLAND
HENDERSON
WARD
CLYNE
MITCHELL
CAHILL
TOMKINS
GUEHI
KELLY
KOUYATE
REIDEWALD
GALLAGHER
MILLIVOJEVIC
EZE
CHRISTIE
MCARTHUR
LUKIC
SCHLUPP
TOWNSEND
ZAHA
DAMSGAARD
BENTEKE
AYEW
MATETA
Jairo and Schluppy can provide LB cover and I'm assuming Clyne is willing to accept sensible wages. I'm assuming Kouyate is a CB next season. Might need to push the boat our for Damsgaard but should be able to manage it for an £80M outlay.
EDIT; I forgot to include a loan.

Rumour: Ryan Christie
samedi 3 juillet 2021
Ryan Christie wanted for Crystal Palace transfer as Celtic star's Patrick Vieira audition revealed
The Scotland international has just six months to run on his current contract at Parkhead and also has admirers in Ligue 1.
Crystal Palace are poised to join the race for Celtic star Ryan Christie.
The Parkhead playmaker only has six months to run on his Hoops deal and is available for a cut-price fee this summer.
French outfit Nice are long time admirers of the 26-year-old and remain in the hunt for Christies signature after having a bid for him knocked back a year ago.
Then, they were managed by Patrick Vieira, who is on the verge of being named Palace s new boss and
MailSport understands that if the Arsenal legend gets the job, he will make landing Christie a priority for the London club.
Vieiras attention was first caught by Christie back in his native France.

Is this wishful thinking or one we should look to try and explore?
Young with bags of potential, good energy in the middle of the park and can definitely play. The exact type of midfielder we should be looking and apparently available for less than the £17M Arsenal were looking for.
Oh, and he hates Brighton.
