Exclusive: Crystal Palace set sights on signing £20m-valued Norwich City player
Crystal Palace have set their sights on signing Norwich City defender Jamal Lewis this summer, Football Insider understands.
The 22-year-old is in high demand among English sides this summer but the Canaries are holding out for a fee of around £20million if they are to let him go.
A source at Selhurst Park has told Football Insider that the Eagles, who made a move for the left-back during the January transfer window, have reignited their interest and are plotting another raid of Carrow Road.
Premier League champions Liverpool have already had an offer of £8million rising to £10m knocked back for the Northern Ireland international.
However, Norwich are not prepared to let Lewis depart on the cheap and insisted the Reds would have to double their offer if they were to sell up.
The defender, who came through the youth ranks at the Norfolk-based outfit, has already played 100 times for the Canaries and was a mainstay in the Premier League last season.
He made 28 top-flight appearances and was one of the club’s standout performers despite their relegation back to the Championship.
His current contract, which was signed back in 2018, is set to keep him tied down at Carrow Road until 2023 and as such Norwich know they are in a strong negotiating position in terms of a transfer.
Palace manager Roy Hodgson is in the market for a new left-back this summer as competition to current senior star Patrick van Aanholt.
The 29-year-old played 29 times for the Eagles last season, with natural centre-back Jairo Reidewald used as a makeshift full-back in his absence.
It is understood that Hodgson views Lewis as someone who could offer the same attacking outlet as van Aanholt next season and offer real competition to the Dutch flyer.
