Parallels with Swansea City

jeudi 8 août 2019

Being from South Wales there's so much going on here that mirrors Swansea City.

Got into the Premier League and gained stability - viewed by most as a solid midtable club.

Took on American investment and for a couple of years not much changed. Things didn't get better or worse.

Then they started getting a bit cocky and under investing reasoning they didn't need to keep spending big to stay in the top 17.

Still they weren't making money and then started selling the best players and slowly taking their money back by just not spending much after these sales.

Having flirted with the bottom a few years running they got relegated without really putting up much of a fight in terms of spend.

Now in the Championship, fans disillusioned, best players still getting sold and survival seeming to be the main aim.

It's a slippery slope and I fear we're heading that way. Teams like Wolves and Villa coming up spending far more than we do and I wonder if the desire to fight for our position while the debt keeps creeping upward is diminishing.

Downbeat I know but it's how I see things going.
