Calling anyone with some knowledge of cars / repair costs.
Long story short, the clutch pedal on my Peugeot 107 (08 reg, 60k miles) went incredibly stiff all of a sudden, but you could still use the car, change gear etc - it just made it hard to use first gear, and you had to push down harder when changing gear.
A quick bit of googling didn't come up with a lot, and I am not one to do the work myself anyway - I was trying to find out what it may be and how much it might cost to fix. Most things I found for clutch problems appeared to be a lack of resistance, not an increase in it.
Anyway, we dropped it off at the dealer garage (have used there since we bought it, and realise we'll pay a bit more because it's the dealer) on Thursday. Get a message from them today saying that they couldn't diagnose it without stripping the whole engine out and taking apart the clutch itself, and this alone was going to be £400, before any repairs are done.
As I said, I know using the Peugeot garage will be more expensive, but this still seems a lot of money, just to (hopefully) identify the problem. My question is - am I right, or is it reasonable? And, given what I've said about the issue, can anyone have an educated guess as to the problem and likely cost (excluding the £400 above)
Thanks all
