Fulham away - where are you sitting?

mercredi 30 avril 2014

The thread in the Tickets/Travel forum suggests that quite a few Palace fans will be sitting in the neutral/home end at Fulham. In order to gauge the percentages, please indicate using the poll where you will be on the final day (assuming you are attending the match).

I would suggest that if you are going to be in the 'home' end (there is apparently no official neutral area for this match) you do not mention your seat and row number!

Poll to follow.

Bob Hoskins and the Long Good Friday theme

I know a lot of people would like to see the Long Good Friday theme back before games, I can understand why you as owners might not want that as you want to move on. However could we not have it back for Monday for one day only when the teams come out in respect to one of the country's finest actors after his death today? Thanks

All link Arms at Fulham

Wouldn't it be great if every single one of us in the away end linked arms when singing the "so here's to you famous red n blue" song at Fulham.

Let's make it happen

Brighton Play Off Watch

Well naturally most of them think they are already there but fail to beat Forest on Saturday, or a Reading win and it's already curtains for them. Put your thoughts and views on this and the continuing adventures for the nation's officially Premier League Ready club.

We're gonna beat Liverpool ...

... cos Brendan Rodgers hasn't done his homework.

“We will have to deal with long balls forward.” No Brendan you won't.

Please don't confuse us with West Ham. :hi:

Jamaicans have certainly picked up on the present good form of Jason and now there is a suggestion that not only does he have Jamaican parentage but has agreed to represent Jamaica later this year after he has completed some family matters, such as a wedding I believe

Quote:

In an unusually blunt public warning, a vice president of the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday called the delayed preparations for the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro "the worst I have experienced."

John Coates, who has made six trips to Brazil as part of the IOC's coordination commission for Rio, said the Brazilians are behind "in many, many ways" and are in worse shape than Greek organizers were in preparing for the 2004 Olympics.

Despite the critical delays, the Australian said there is no backup plan and the games will take place in Rio.

It's weird, because most of the venues already seem to be built. But with all the talk that the infrastructure improvements won't be ready in time for the World Cup, I hope they make it for the Olympics.

Euro Elections 2014

Rather than tack this onto the fun UKIP thread, I thought I'd ask this independently. Is there a website which shows me who is standing in my region for the elections? Does it also link through to their statements/manifestos? Is like to make my own mind up on who to vote for, rather than following the press/sheep opinions.

Bob Hoskins RIP

RIP Bob you were brilliant in Long Good Friday.

London pubs for the Champions League Final

My other half is treating me to a weekend in London for my 30th birthday next month, which happens to be the same weekend as the Championship and Champions League Finals.

Can anyone recommend somewhere decent to watch the latter? Preferably not far from tourist city (Picadilly/Leicester Sq/Covent Garden).

Anywhere that takes bookings would be a bonus.

:)

Help with TV signal

 Can anyone advise please. I have only Freeview TV with no digi box and live in an apartment. The main living room TV is plugged into the tv socket and I have a perfect picture and all channels. However the sockets in the bedrooms appear useless and works better with just an internal aerial, but the signal is weak and auto tuning only picks up a few channels.

Will a plug in signal booster work or am I just wasting my money. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? Thanks.

Flying High - Issue Four Out At Liverpool Match

We’re officially a Premier League team next season and to celebrate, we’re rounding off the season with Issue Four of Flying High. Not saying that it’s all our doing that we’ve stayed up, but this is the first time Palace have managed it after a promotion year and it’s our first year in circulation…

Issue Four will be on sale around the ground on Monday before the Liverpool match priced at £1.50 and features the following:

  • We Love You Jules – Well, we do!

  • Goalscoring Midfielders – Punch has helped us stay up with his goals this year, so we look at others like him from seasons past.

  • Heroes and Villains – An epic battle for the ages of Good v Evil.

  • Spygate Exclusive – We have Top Secret insider info from MI-25 about what went down that week in Wales.

  • We Are Staying Up – Why another year in the top flight will be a fun ride.

  • The S**t List – Which player gets our abuse this issue?

  • And much more...

Many thanks to everyone that has bought a copy of the mag this year, we’ve had a lot of fun putting it out and really do appreciate the support.

Winter Olympics 2014 Winner: srs9jps

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.

Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.

Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Possession - how important is it?

I don't think I had ever given it much thought, but if I had been asked before this Season I would have said that possession is the single most important thing for a Team if it is to be successful. This Season has demonstrated that it isn't very important at all.

In the five straight games we won between Chelsea at home on 29th March to West Ham away on 19th April, we rarely approached 40% of possession in any game. The statistics from Opta are:

Chelsea (home): 33%

Cardiff (away): 37%

Villa (home): 43%

Everton (away): 31%

West Ham (away): 35%

Yet we didn't fluke those five results - most commentators said that we deserved to win them all.

It isn't just Palace of course. Real Madrid had just 31% possession in their 4-0 demolition of Bayern Munich last night, and Chelsea beat Liverpool at the weekend with 27% possession.

Am I the only Palace fan who for years has failed to appreciate just how unimportant possession is to winning a match?

Support next season

A key feature of our success this year has been the most unbelievable support.

At home games 20,000 urging the team on to success and many 1-0 wins where the support was crucial in earning the points

Away support has been amazing as well

We have to replicate this next season - without it we might struggle - so how van we guarantee a continuatio of the Holmesdale roar and the Arhtur response next year

Social Media

mardi 29 avril 2014

Just a suggestion, a lot of clubs I've seen put up fans tweets during the game of their opinions etc on the advertising boards. Maybe we could introduce something like this as social media is such a big part of our lives these days?

Tuesday night football

So, Bayern vs Real has just kicked off. Predictions?

Elsewhere Wigan have taken an early lead at Birmingham, which makes Brighton's play-off chances even more remote :lux:

Brum look in a whole world of trouble.

Knutsford eagles?

So anyone on here living in Knutsford (Cheshire)?

I'm back in the uk having moved to Knutsford with my job. I don't know anybody within hundreds of miles so any top tips about What to do in Knutsford would be great! It's not a massive place though so I'm guessing this might be a quiet thread :(

Rome

As usual, when in doubt go to the bbs for advice.

I'm off to Rome in a couple of weeks, and obviously will be doing all the regular things such as the Vatican and the Coliseum. However the question I have is whether it's worth getting a 'Rome Pass' or any alternative suggestions.

Phone/Email Flight Deals

I'm looking to go to Beijing at the end of May and I’ve seen some fantastic deals with good airlines, but I have to phone/email to get the deal.

I phoned for one of these deals but the man over the phone wouldn't disclose the flight details unless I paid a £50 deposit.

I emailed another with my desired days of travel, they emailed back pretty sharpish, Hotmail however flagged it up with the warning "Be careful! This sender has failed our fraud detection checks."

Has anybody had any experience with these flight deals that you have to phone or email to receive, are they trusted?

Academy Status

Quick question - well two. Is the club still looking at going for Cat 1? Does the staying up money help? Any progress? (okay, three!)

The World Cup

Steve, can you confirm if anyone from the club will be in Brazil 'on business' for the World Cup? I was wondering whether CPFC will send scouts or anyone from the management team, to have a look at any players first hand.

Secondly, are any of the owners big fans of international football or follow the national side (i.e. go to games)? I have to sadly admit it, but i completely lost my enthusiasm for international football in the late 90s. Just can't get into it anymore and it doesn't come close to supporting Palace.

Thirdly, who is your tip to win it?

Championship Final Day

Any news yet as to which game/s Sky will have on?

I'm guessing they are going to see how tonight's game at St Andrew's goes; Birmingham v Wigan result will have a pretty significant implication at both ends of the table whatever the result.

A Wigan win will be the best outcome for me as it would leave only one remaining play off spot left, and less likely that Brighton sneak in.

If Birmingham win, Millwall might still drop, although Doncaster have a horrid game to finish; away at Leicester.

Never forget where you've come from; its still the second best league in the world ;)

Your First Ever Away game.

My apologies if there's been a thread about this already but quite frankly I can't be arsed to check.

It's a personal defect but meh.

Anyhoo, what's yours? It's not a competition btw.

Can't remember if mine was at The Gallstone or Gillingham.

It's a close one.

I remember the Brightscum visit as if if were yesterday. I was about 9 or 10.

It was so packed in the away end that we had to stand on the roof of the Khazi. How ironic! Standing on a Khazi in a Khazi!

As for Gillingham, well Denny Warren was there with his old woman (she loved a row too).

But that's another story.

And you?

catering next season

Steve,

Are there any planned changes to the food on offer next season and are there any lessons learned from your first season of taking catering back in house?

Collections for charity

I have followed Palace for more years than I like to recall, anybody remember when they use to walk around the edge of the pitch with some kind of blanket/sheet and the supporters used to throw money into the blanket( the fun seemed to be to miss etc)

If anyone has an old photo would love to see it,oh memories !!!

Restaurants in the area?

Someone posted a while ago asking about good restaurants locally and one got a lot of praise in the Kent locallity, Petts Wood or Locksbottom or nearby?

can anyone help out with the name of it?

Nice crisp passing football from both sides so far.

Raucous atmosphere at Craven Cottage as always.

An unlikely star at the World Cup

Lots of players, rightly so, will be talked up ahead of the World Cup from Messi to Ronaldo and Xavi to Neymar.

However, who do you all think may have a good tournament that mainstream observers won't tip? It could be a well known player at a massive country, like Alvaro Negredo who hasn't had a massive impact at international level, or a young player at a lesser renowned country such as Granite Xhaka at Switzerland.

Discussion: TP's Summer of Madness or Tinkering

As the title suggests , do you think TP will want a lot of changes & a Summer of Madness , or do youthink TP just needs to Tinker with what we have and build slowly on what we've achieved this season?

IMO I think TP will see a lot of the fringe players as excess baggage if they are not pushing the 1st XI player that plays in their position , also feel we will have 3 or 4 new faces in the 1st XI come August.

Whatever happens I trust in TP & CPFC2010 to get it right

COYP :p

Suggestion: Kris Commons

Was with Pulis during his first spell at stoke, currently at Celtic and just won the Scottish PFA player of the season award. 28 goals in all competitions.

30, but might be worth a look. Ledley hasn't worked out badly.....:p

The Palace are staying up!

Anyone got a picture of the underpass in Croydon? I just drove past on the way to a mates house in South Croydon to see the HF have hung over the banner from yesterday over the side of the underpass!

Put a great big smile on my face that!

From the Chairman's Office with Palace Radio

I sat down with Steve Parish in his Soho office today to discuss the 2013/14 season. He very kindly gave me the best part of an hour of his time to reflect on this season and the future ahead for our club.

It's over 46 mins (21MB) but if you've got the time, you can listen to the interview in its entirety on the PR website now. Enjoy:)

Start of Premier Season 2014/15

Now that we know which division we will be playing in next Season I've been trying to find out when the Actual First Saturday is for scheduled matches.

I've tried The FA, The Football League & the Premier Websites but an 'ask' question doesn't give me an answer.

I know it's possible that the League Cup could be earlier than the Prem Season & that the Fixtures are released mid June.

For Summer Holiday planning purposes & with the World Cup as well it would be useful to know.

So can any of you BBS'ers help me at all please? :bash::bash:

AFC Wimbledon Docked 3 Points For Fielding An Ineligible Player

Time for Sunderland to worry about a point deduction as AFC Wimbledon have just been deducted 3 points for fielding an ineligible player.

This will put huge pressure on the Premier League to issue Sunderland with the same punishment for the same crime.

Happy Birthday Mr Statto.

Best opposition player at Selhurst this season

Given the various views on how good Yaya Toure was yesterday what other opposition players lived up to their star billing in games at Selhurst Park this season.

Certainly the two that stand out for me were Michu (probably one of his few good performances for Swansea in an injury hit season) and Lallana for Southampton.

One of the weirder stories I came across in the legal press:-

Engineering works

We are told that engineering works are decided so far in advance that they cannot be changed because of the fixture list.

So can I suggest that we get the details from the rail companies before the fixture meeting for next season so that we know which dates to avoid.

I remember one match this season when we were still queuing to get on trains at Selhurst at 6:30 because Norwood Junction was shut.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Liverpool

We got beaten too easilly this week so next week I would put 5 across the middle and get 10 men behind the ball, clean sheet is the aim.

Interesting end to the League 2 season

Well I think so anyway. :)

Torquay already relegated, Bristol Rovers beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 at the weekend to jump their opponents and Northampton beat Dagenham and Redbridge. So going into the last game of the season Bristol Rovers are on 50 (-10 GD), Northampton are on 50 (-17 GD), and Wycombe are on 47 (-11 GD). It all comes down to next weeks final games.

Bristol Rovers host 13th placed Mansfield Town

Northampton Town host 8th placed Oxford United

And the big spanner in the works if you are a Rovers or Northampton fan...

Wycombe Wanderers play bottom and already relegated Torquay United.

Should be interesting with twists and turns galore. I show an interest in this as WW are the first team I ever remember getting promoted from the Conference.

Sorry guys, it's my fault we lost...

dimanche 27 avril 2014

After getting to see the Man City game yesterday, I feel that I need to get something off my chest. I have only been able to get to 6 games this season, due to work/finances, but we have lost 5 and drawn one without scoring a single goal. I think it's my fault we lost.

Spurs 0-1

Swansea 0-2

Arsenal 0-2

Everton 0-0

Newcastle 0-3

Man Citeh 0-2

I am willing to avoid Selhurst on match days if it means we can stay in winning ways. I've been a Palace fan for around 20 years now, and this is the 1st season I've seen so many defeats - maybe it's a Prem thing?!

Anyone else suffering with a similar affliction?!

what would you have done

Ok so I am what some of you would call a stripy Nigel.

I drink in my local pub that is mainly builders etc I am a bit of an exception as a civil servant.Over the last couple of weeks I ha ve been chatting to one of my mates who has been recently ripped off by a local big guy.

So moving on to tonight the big guy turned up and started flashing cash about I decided that he should be challenged over his activities. In return I got a head butt.

My question is should I have challenged him or just never returned to the pub

Joe Hart

Did anyone else appreciate how much Joe Hart applauded our fans on several occasions today. He really seemed to enjoy the home support and seemed genuine in his applause. Massive respect to him for this :)

What talent would you enhance?

No not a player at Palace. If you could pick something you would love to be better at, what would it be?

I'd love to be a great singer! I can't sing for crap, nor can Beatleboy for that matter ;) and would love to pick a favourite song and make it sound good.

No superpowers, just natural human traits and lets try not to be boring and all be professional footballers who win the champions league for palace!

random observation.

Every game at selhurst I remember us getting turned over in this season, we've kicked towards the holmesdale first half.

see Swansea, Today and I think there was another, we really don't like it when we get turned around before kickoff.

Charity collections today

I know palace allow one charity to collect per game but today as well as Scarlett's collectors there was again another group collecting for disabled children, my daughter had brought some money for Scarlett and nearly put it in the wrong bucket. Does anyone know if these collectors are legit there is often a guy dressed as a clown.

Premier League Team of the year

PFA Premier League team of the year: Cech (Chelsea), Shaw (Southampton), Kompany (Man City), Cahill (Chelsea), Coleman (Everton), Hazard (Chelsea), Yaya Toure (Man City), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lallana (Southampton), Suarez (Liverpool), Sturridge (Liverpool).

Did Toure foul Delaney on the edge of the box for his goal

No complaints, the were better than us but looking at it later on the telly I'm not sure if DD had his heels clipped before Yaya curled the ball in?

Liverpool BBC FC

I was fully expecting the BBC Sport Department to go into meltdown if Liverpool won The League this season but this afternoon took the piss. Hansen & Lawrenson were to the fore plus a combination of Souness, Fowler, Murphy and sundry other has-beens. Rent-a-gob for this afternoon was the inimitable Alan Green; has a BBC employee ever made such a piss-poor effort to disguise his bias in the history of the Corporation?

The more sensible of you were probably down the boozer before our match this afternoon but 5Live treated us to Mark Lawrenson's considered analysis of the Liverpool v Chelsea match while I was cooking Sunday lunch. Naturally it was a foregone conclusion. Liverpool have won 11 "on the bounce" and it's inconceivable they could possibly throw it away now. "Blah blah blah ... momentum ...blah blah blah ... history ... blah blah blah ... destiny (I kid you not!)

Jan Molby had been employed to report outside Anfield and naturally he'd never seen anything like it in 30 years as a player and fan. This was history in the making. Unless you were there you couldn't fully comprehend. The streets had been packed since dawn to greet the anointed ones. Fate was on their side; this wasn't a competition, it was a procession.

And I'm not exaggerating. Un-be-fecking-leivable.

So anyway, today's results leave the script in tatters. Win their last 3 matches and City are champions. If we take just a point on Monday that should fvck them up too. They'll be throwing themselves off the roof of Broadcasting House or wherever it is they've relocated to in Salford.

Seriously. They really ought to maintain a semblance of impartiality. It was absolutely outrageous. I'm just glad Barry Davies has retired or he'd probably have had an embolism live on air.

Glad All Over mess up

Mighty balls up by the announcer today leaving the Faithless track playing at the same time as 'Glad All Over' when the players came out.

Please also can we get a new mic for the announcer. Every game this season it's broken up during announcements

Palace On Film Database 1968/69-1980/81

Feel free to make any additions/corrections.

*Denotes the presence of television cameras.

Make the most of this

We're probably all a bit unsure what to do. Even the biggest cynics and negative Palace followers cannot undermine the scale of the achievement staying up is. Doing it with three games to go and rising to 11th in the Premier League is incredible, but I think it has made it hard to sink in. We have never had that survival moment, we coasted to 43 points, no last day drama, no winner takes all final match.

So today we finally end a run of 5 superb victories in a row. A run that Tony Pulis never managed in 8 years with Stoke. We lost to the potential champions and one of (if not) the highest paid football team in the world. I sense some people want to critique the performance, make the usual sweeping generalizations and jump quickly back on their finger pointing bandwagon.

But what I want to ask is; why can't we just enjoy these games? I don't want to just lie down and see the players take the foot of the gas. But today, there was a subdued nature to the atmosphere in the stadium. This home game and the match v Liverpool should be a party. They should see supporters celebrating this incredible achievement. It was hard today because of the early goal, but I was just expecting that little bit more fun!

When will be get three care free matches in a row, with a wonderful achievement already secured? We probably won't. If you cant enjoy this, then god help us all next season, when there will no doubt be some tough times again.

I just think of all the weeks I'd go on Ian Hart's survival calculator thread, desperately trying to work out a way we'd stay up, thinking we'd have to rely on other teams results etc - now we've done it, I hope we never take our place in the Premier League for granted.

Discussion: Is There a Jerome Upgrade Out There?

I'll throw this open to our international fans:

Is there a good forward out there who is not in the £20million+ bracket, works as hard as Jerome does, makes the outlet ball stick like Jerome does, links the break-out play up reasonably well like Jerome does but has more (credible) goal threat against good defenders?

I don't think we need Zaha back, or a sexy midfield general. I want Jerome to stay at our club, but he needs competition for his place :) Murray isn't the answer and Gayle might well offer us something if he could learn how to be effective out wide in Pulis' system.

Suggestions?

Building advice needed

If there is anyone that knows a thing or two about building works and specifically barn conversions I would very much appreciate your help.

We are looking for a propert yo buy with my parents and one we really like is a house with a partially converted barn on site which we would finish converting for them. We just need to try and estimate the cost before putting an offer in. Additional detail s as follows;

The barn is structurally complete with all windows and doors in place and already has electricity

It needs plumbing -so no hot water, heating or sewage at the moment however the main house which is only about 50 ft away has a septic tank and all the normal plumbing plus an oil tank for heating. We don't need it to be on a seperate meter - not sure if we will need to put in a bigger/new septic tank for the additional waste.

Currently has planning permission for domestic storage not sure whether we need additional as there will be no changes to the outside

Driveway is in place already

The barn is 51ft by 17ft and apart from services above need stud walls to seperate hall, living room and bedroom plus install bathroom and kitchen.

It's single storey apart fom a small hayloft which will be used as an office which needs the stairs replacing as the are too narrow for m parents.

Anyone that can offer any useful comments on any of ths would me most appreciated as. don't have any experience.

E- ticket help

samedi 26 avril 2014

I've got an e ticket for tomorrow's game, which I printed and managed to leave at work. I've got no access to a printer before the game - does anyone know if the guys on the turnstiles will scan the barcode from my smart phone screen or will I need to find somewhere to print it out?

Any advice greatly appreciated, cheers!

Thank you Holmesdale Fanatics / Palace Ultras Palace fans...

I've been supporting Palace for nigh on 47 years and I've never been prouder. I gave football up after the shite that happened over the Cantona incident but I've had a season ticket again for around 12 years, up in the Holmsedale Upper tier. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not always that vocal with my support but to hear you guys every home game and on the away game broadcasts is an inspiration. The pundits and reporters constantly talk about Tony Pulis - too right - but there's a guy with real integrity because he's constantly passing the praise onto our amazing directors and supporters. Football got one of it's iconic photographs last week at West Ham because the lads are so proud of their club that they wanted to publicly show the world where their inspiration comes from - the supporters. Now the news stories talk more and more about the supporters and when it comes to us, the Holmesdale Fanatics / Palace Ultras / Blocks A, B, C etc. are amazing! Thanks to all of you and when expectation rises next year, please don't stop doing what you do because you are the heartbeat of the club.

Match Preview: Palace to Derail City?

Evening,

Rich Foster has previewed tomorrow's game for HOL Radio and set out what he sees as the key considerations.

As usual, the first bit is below and should you wish to read more then a link follows for the rest!

1. FEARLESS

Back in June when the fixtures first came out, the initial thrill of seeing Palace rubbing shoulders with the big boys was soon replaced by apprehension as it sunk in that we were really going to have play the might of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. The fact that we had Man City towards the end of the season was not good for our chances but lo and behold we are already safe and can face the task without fear. They may even be a wee bit worried by their visit to Selhurst.

Rich is also giving a talk around last seasons journey in the play offs. It's being held at at Birkbeck College on Tuesday 20th May at 6pm – it’s free and he’d love to get some Palace fans along. Details here - To view the link you have to Register or Login

Tony Pulis 4 year plan?

Very encouraging article From a sky sport article yesterday suggesting TP is looking to stay for the long term.

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis believes the club still have plenty of work to do despite ensuring another season of Premier League

Pulis insists there is no room for complacency both on and off the field at Selhurst Park if they are to ensure survival is not a one-off.

"There's so much to do at the football club from the training facilities, to the ground, to the organisation - everything has got to change. It's got to step up a level," said former Stoke City boss Pulis.

"I have spoken to (co-chairman) Steve Parish and there are certain things that are going to happen almost immediately when the season finishes because everywhere needs upgrading.

"This club has got to stay in the Premier League for three or four years. If it can do that, you can bed the club down and establish it in the Premier League and then you can really push on.

"You can't make the changes necessary after one season, you need the second and the third and even the fourth season to give you the financial clout to have everything in place to compete with other clubs.

"That is what we did at Stoke. We did it gradually over a period of time and this is what Crystal Palace need now to make sure it's not just a one-off.

Holmesdale stand v Man City

Taken from the HF Facebook account. ..

Palace v Man City.

The pressure is off, but our hardcore support for the lads will be bigger than ever... They have done us all proud and we'll let them know it!

Blocks A, B and C will have a display set up and after this there will be a separate powerful banner at the front of the Block B section and we want all the Palace flags going for the first few minutes of the game to make the whole of the Holmesdale stand out from the rest of the country, backed up with the loudest atmosphere.

SOUTH LONDONS NUMBER 1 - ENGLANDS NUMBER 1.

Can't wait :p

The thing you love most about Tony Pulis other than the points he's helped secure us

1) the way he screams from his technical area so loud that you can even hear him on the f*cking television. Thug of a gentleman.

Pay attention - Tony's talking.

I thought TP made a very important point in yesterday's press conference (ahead of Man City April 2014 for future reference...). He said it it takes at least THREE seasons (and added that even FOUR was more like it) before you could say Palace had established themselves in the Premier League. Just in case anyone thought we'd cracked it. Or thinks that survival next year means we've cracked it. I suspect there's going to be a lot of raised expectations after what we've achieved this season - it's interesting to see how TP views it.

Recall Williams

Ipswich cannot now make the Play-Offs. Going on fan testimony, JW has been their best player in more or less every game since he joined them.

We are now safe. When could there possibly be a better time to have a look at JW in a central, attacking midfield position than now? He is in form, has enjoyed a good run of games and lots of minutes, and would suit our hardworking, counter-attacking system very well.

I appreciate the arguments about playing your strongest team, and many would prefer a fit Chamakh behind the striker, but I'm hardly suggesting we field a load of kids against Liverpool and Fulham. I'm suggesting we play a technically excellent, full international.

The Liverpool and Fulham games would be perfect opportunities for TP to see if he is ready to play a major role next year.

Match Updates: April 26 2014

Southampton 2 - 0 Everton

goals: Coleman and Alcatraz (both own goals)

crazy

Alan Hansen

On football focus right now. I'm think he's actually drunk.

Anybody watching?

Either way he's a ******* cretin and I'm pleased he'll be going

Suggestion: Chris Smalling

Obviously, wages might be high - although he was young when signed by Manchester utd, so perhaps they won't be prohibitive. They are a club on the slide, whereas we are a club on the up (we have a better points per game ratio than them since Pulis took over), so he may see it as career advancement.

I don't think we will be able to find a left back who is good enough who suits what Pulis is looking for. So, thinking outside the box, Ward should become the permanent left back, with Ledley and Jerome Williams as cover. This will then leave us needing a right back. We play with a narrow back 4, so he would almost be playing as a centre back with the Pulis style, but obviously he would also be good cover for Delaney and Dann as a conventional centre half.

Thoughts? I reckon £10m might do it.

Pubs + travel tips for Fulham

I know that this is an early shout but living in Putney this is the fixture that I looked out for when they were printed.

For those who don't the area you can either get there via Putney Bridge on the district line, Hammersmith on the Hammersmith & City, District, and Piccadilly line followed by a scenic walk along the Thames, and Putney mainline.

Drinking wise there are loads of decent pubs near Putney Bridge, but my recommendations would be the 8 Bells near the station, the Larrick, and and the Larrick.

If you are walking from Hammersmith there is a great boozer called the Crabtree, by the river. Good food and a decent beer garden.

If it is a pub crawl you fancy and are coming in via mainline I would suggest kicking off in the railway directly opposite the station - it is a Spoon and from there you walk down Putney High Street taking in the Spotted Horse and the Coat & Badge before hitting the river front and watching the 3 Palace boats come by.

There are two pubs side by side. Another spoon and the Boathouse.

I know I am biased, but I think that this is the best pub crawl in the Premiership.

Looking forward to seeing some of you in the Railway at 12.

Fulham are quite a placid bunch, so should be no problems getting into any of the pubs. Lets paint Putney red and blue!

Palace Free Day

No Palace today so where you going to watch a game today?

I'm at Sittingbourne v Burgess Hill.

Burgess Hill need to beat us to get in the play offs. Hastings United are hoping we can win.

Biggish crowd expected by our standards.

Just been listening to Shine on you crazy diamond, and i cannot see a fault in this tune it has everything. So perfect. Anyone got a tune to beat it ?

Who will win The World Cup?

Lets hear your predictions! Im going for Brazil. However my three dark horses are Belgium, Chile and Columbia.

how many Liverpool fans will be in the home ends ?

Already know fans are selling tickets on for several hundreds pounds and its been a quarter of a century since Liverpool won the title , so I can see at least 1500 plus .

What struck me more were some of the comments

"Neutral Greek here!

I' ve read int the past that "Crystal Palace have the most dedicated fans in England".

Is that true, or just a rumor?"

30+ responses - this being an example

"The supporters have played a big part in this story. You can check on YouTube to see the devotion of Palace fans in an age where many English grounds are increasingly lacking in atmosphere.

IPalace supporters have been through a lot of bad times and know both how to support a club when it's down and relish the occasions when the sun shines. It's easy to highlight the constant singing and noise and an impressive repertoire of entertaining (and noticeably clean) songs, but there's more to it than that. Palace is a club led by fans who spent years on the terraces and are well aware of how their fellow supporters feel. Their constant involvement with discussions on the two main fans message boards (both of which have huge member bases outnumbering much bigger clubs) has helped Palace take huge strides in terms of customer service, fair allocation of tickets, and the provision of greatly improved facilities within the limitations of a very old stadium.

Their reward for that is that particularly in the early part of the season, the supporters played a huge part in lifting and keeping spirits high when it was most needed. The next big challenge, as the club builds (we're all waiting for news of the club's ambitions for a major upgrade to Selhurst Park) is finding ways to keep that unique atmosphere."

On this day: 25th April 1914

Today marks the Centenary of Palace's best season in the Southern League Division One, finishing Runners-Up to Swindon in our last full season played at The Crystal Palace.

In true Palace style, the Title was missed on goal average with a 1-1 draw at Gillingham on the last day, Palace drew four of their last five games, two of which were both 0-0 draws with Brighton - the first away on 1oth April 1914 and on the 13th April, a crowd of 25,000 saw another goaless draw, the last 20,000 plus crowd at The Palace and the biggest that season at home.

Top goalscorer Ted (Edwin) Smith bagged 26 goals from 38 appearances, the only Palace player to play every match that season.

Palace had a fairly decent record in the Southern League, comfortably winning Division Two in our first ever season and having 5 top 5 finishes in the twenty team strong Division One in our 10 seasons there between 1906 and 1920 (Interupted by four years of playing in the 'London Combination' during the First World War football competition - 1915-1918) - mainly against the teams that would go on to form the Football League Division Three in 1920-21, which Palace then won at the first attempt.

Drinking at ground before match.

Usually drink in R&B before a match as sit in U Holmesdale but have had a swap round with mates for next 2 home games and thinking of where to drink ie Crystals or Glaziers, so firstly can I actually get into either of these? What beers do they serve? Do they have TV's? Anyone reccommend either of them? Have put a similar post on Questions to Cpfc 2010 but not put up yet.

If you had a time machine...

If you had a time machine and it was only possible to make three trips. what three trips would you make?

From the Training Ground with Palace Radio pre Man City (H)

'Chamakh & KG are doubts. We're hoping they might make it , but at the moment they are doubts', was the disappointing news from this morning's press conference with Tony ahead of the visit of Manchester City on Sunday.

Tony said that despite these 5 wins, 'We've got to keep it going' - not just for these last three games but for the future of Palace in the Premier League.

The players, unsurprisingly, are hugely confident going into the game:p

Tony stressed once again the supreme effort put in by the everyone at the club, from the players, backroom staff & those players who have not been involved, but have been very positive and supportive behind the scenes.

TP made a point of stressing just how good the supporters have been (win, lose or draw) this season. They will 'need to be even better, and the team will need to be even better next season'. He expects it to be 'difficult once again' to make sure the team stay in the BPL (second season syndrome?)

He will sit down with Steve shortly, to discuss the future as far as strengthening the team and the infrastructure at the club.

There are still a few tickets left for Sunday's game - not to be missed:lux:

These "carefree" 3 games-any wishes?

I can’t really remember the last time we went into some matches in the top division with, in reality, only prize money the issue to winning more points & it not being that material if we win, lose or draw, (apart from pride).

So with benefiting from this carefree factor , what if anything, would anyone like to happen in these last 3 games?

For me, I want Damian Delaney to score a scorcher, I don’t care against who but it would be nice if it was down the H’dale end like a couple he got last year.

Discussion: Breaking our transfer record

Seeing the money now involved in the PL, and the market we are shopping in, i would think there's a good chance we will break our transfer record again this summer

Current bar set at £4.5m for Gayle (without add ons, other ifs and buts)

So if the deal is right for the club, what player would you (realistically) like to get ?

The Pulis Way

When TP was being touted as our next manager, a fair few of us expressed concern at his style of football.

My first question is, has the style of football we have played been better or worse than you expected?

With West Ham fans moaning that they aren't playing like Brazil, and even the over achieving Stoke side's fans under TP, turning on him in the end, how long will it be before you expect some improvement (or do you care?).

I remember most of us saying we would "enjoy the ride" this year, and that it didn't matter how we did, but in reality there were calls for Holloway's head pretty early.

Man City Tickets

jeudi 24 avril 2014

Hi Steve. I just wondered how the tickets are going for this match. I recall the attendance at the Man U game was slightly lower than anticipated, and I wonder if being live on TV had an affect that time, and whether there is a slight affect this time too?

Seasons Dvd? :)

I know I know the season hasn't ended yet and we've got the World cup to look forward to but I would love to get my hands on a dvd with all goals and highlights asap after the curtain falls on another

Perhaps fans could pre order now?

All we need now is for someone to don the ninja headband as worn by Eric (the ninja) to complete its 'epicness'.

Palace Ladies

Steve, on the Palace Ladies thread, it appears that the players have buy their own kit. With our safety secured, and them on the brink of promotion, is this something the club could consider funding?

London Underground Strike - Liverpool Home Game Travel Problems

Palace kick off against Liverpool has been switched to 8pm and the London Underground Strike is due to start at 9pm on the same evening.

This is going to create massive problems for fans who rely on the London Underground Service to get them home from the match as thousands of fans will be stranded in Central London as no services are expected to run after 9pm.

Fans needing to get to the London stations like Euston, St Pancras, Kings Cross and Liverpool Street could face major disruption to their homeward journeys due to the loss of the Underground link.

At the moment the Underground Strike is scheduled to start on the 5th May Bank Holiday Monday at 9pm.

Three Network - calling overseas

I saw this today on Hot Deals UK -

if you are on the Three Network and want to call overseas, using the codes will save you quite a lot.

Talking to Les Butler for an hour would cost you just 60p (as well as your sanity).

More identity politics nonsense but it leaves me with a dilemma.

Since the Cornish are now officially a minority and therefore, officially, a rubbish what do I call them to run the risk of arrest for a 'hate crime' ?

Pasty face ? A Westie ?

What really offends them and makes them kiss their teeth or what ever the Cornish equivalent is ?

Legendary rock group Led Zeppelin have unveiled two previously unheard recordings ahead of the reissue of the band's first three albums in June.

The two tracks - blues classic Keys to the Highway, recorded in 1970, and an early version of the famous song Whole Lotta Love - are among dozens of tracks which the band will officially release alongside the reissues.

Promotion and relegation in the Conference Premier

Just has a quick look at this as it looks like Bromley could get promoted into the Conference Premier

However I'm trying to get my head around the mechanics. It looks like two each go up from the Conference North and two from the Conference South go up and four from the Conference Premier go down.

However what happens if the four relegated are all from the south or all from the north? How does it work?

Lost Brolly

Did anyone come across a red, blue, black and white umbrella in Block J of the Old Stand after the Aston Villa game on 12th April? I did contact the club, but it hasn't been handed in.

It might sound trivial, but this one in particular also happens to the iconic brolly that occupies the top corner of the Holmesdale Road! :sob:

Match Updates: Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich CL Semi-Final

Arguably the best two sides in club football, thought it might be worth a thread.

Bayern with the majority of possession and Penalty area entries so far, but Madrid very dangerous on the break and currently 1-0 up.

Puncheon = Robben

Has this been raised before?

Just watching the Real v Bayern match and it strikes me that Punch and Robb are similar in terms of style and skill level. You agree?

Is it wise to buy a house from a convicted Paedo

Serious question although I know that this is likely to attract all kinds of off-topic comments.

In the current dearth of available property Mrs Jimbo and I have found the almost perfect house for our next move and we are well down the line to purchase.

Although the actual house was not identified from our internet searches, last night we discovered that the husband of the couple we are buying from was convicted in 2012 for downloading child porn images. It may explain why they want to sell but I don't know for sure.

This has made me think of what it may be like if people thought that I was this paedo - without knowing that we only bought the house and had nothing to do with him.

It would be devastating to lose the house as there has been nothing else even closely suitable available for sale but now I am very concerned about the potential implications.

Am I worried unnecessarily - is 2 years or so long enough? Am I over dramatising the situation - has the house now been 'blighted' even though it was not the address that was given in court (maybe he moved out while the case was going to protect his wife or something) I know there will be those who will make it their business to seek out these people and obviously I would not want to be the recipient of any mistaken revenge attacks or suspicion.

Anyone have any experience of this sort of thing or have any constructive advice?

Discussion: Tony Pulis

By Nov. 23 he will be entering the last 18 month of his contract - do you think we should tie him up to a 4 year contract i.e. a 2 year extension during the summer.

Should be a good night but sadly it's the one night I really couldn't do in the next few weeks.

Why isn't there a British national day?

I googled it, thinking it would be a good idea, and it turns out that plenty if others have beaten me to it.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

But why isn't there one? It would be good, and we could do with another bank holiday between August and December. Perhaps we could introduce one to celebrate a no vote in the Scottish referendum. And if they vote yes, perhaps we could introduce one to celebrate that too.

Tenancy questionn

Hi all,

Could I plug any legal/property brains on here about a current tenancy situation?

Basically I (and another BBSer, with three others) live in a five bedroom shared house, on a fixed term contract that concludes on the 27th April.

One of the current tenants is leaving, and we have in the past few months found a replacement who is mutually agreed with the existing/leaving tenant to move in on the 26th.

We have paid a fee of intent to the letting agency, who act on behalf of our landlord, about six weeks ago, as a new 12 month contract is required from the 28th, rather than a renewal, as it's a shared contract rather than an HMO.

The new tenant requires a reference check, which has been paid for by the new tenant a few weeks ago, and provided the relevant details on the 16th April, but the new contract - to be signed by the four remaining tenants plus the new arrival, as a new 12 month agreement - commencing 28th cannot be issued until this is complete, and we have been chasing this up with the agency with no luck, who have said they can't do anymore. The new tenant has confirmed with his old landlord that he has heard from the reference agency yesterday, and has sent the information back, so I don't know where the delay is - the letting agent or the reference people, but we're getting hacked off. Not helping matters is I'm away from Friday to Sunday, so really need the contract posted today, so we can all sign it tomorrow night and I can run it down in person.

Hopefully we will hear back today, but where do we stand from a legal point of view. I'm worried nothing has been signed, and we're only fours days away from the expiry of the current contract. I certainly don't want to be homeless come Monday morning if the situation remains the same.

No notice has been served by either side at any point, as we obviously wish to stay in the property.

Also, where does this stand if we waited to raise unresolved repairing obligations that have not been done thorought the previous 12 month contract? Basically, we have repeatedly informed the letting agent things need to be sorted, and have been told things are 'in hand', but then nothing happens.

Do these become null and void in the event of a new contract being signed? I'm mulling over reporting them to a property/lettings regulator as a result, but want the new contract sorted first!

Cheers in advance!
