Is it wise to buy a house from a convicted Paedo

mercredi 23 avril 2014

Serious question although I know that this is likely to attract all kinds of off-topic comments.

In the current dearth of available property Mrs Jimbo and I have found the almost perfect house for our next move and we are well down the line to purchase.

Although the actual house was not identified from our internet searches, last night we discovered that the husband of the couple we are buying from was convicted in 2012 for downloading child porn images. It may explain why they want to sell but I don't know for sure.

This has made me think of what it may be like if people thought that I was this paedo - without knowing that we only bought the house and had nothing to do with him.

It would be devastating to lose the house as there has been nothing else even closely suitable available for sale but now I am very concerned about the potential implications.

Am I worried unnecessarily - is 2 years or so long enough? Am I over dramatising the situation - has the house now been 'blighted' even though it was not the address that was given in court (maybe he moved out while the case was going to protect his wife or something) I know there will be those who will make it their business to seek out these people and obviously I would not want to be the recipient of any mistaken revenge attacks or suspicion.

Anyone have any experience of this sort of thing or have any constructive advice?
