Hennessey; Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, van Aanholt; McArthur, Milivojević, Kouyaté, Meyer; Townsend, Zaha.
There's a couple of players lucky to keep their place, particularly in midfield, and there are some square pegs, but I think the narrow 4-4-2 from last season is our best chance of success in the short-medium term, and how we are most likely to get the best out of Zaha.
Zaha has been off the boil for a couple of games - it could simply be a rough run, he might not be fully fit, it might be recent coverage playing on his mind, it might be the position he's playing, it might be a combination of all these things.
I think such is his development as a player, he's a better player centrally now, as it allows him to get into dangerous positions more often, and takes some of the defensive burden away from him. It also gives him and Townsend the freedom to drift left or right to attack full-backs when the time is right.
In his current form, Milivojević needs the steel of a player like Kouyaté alongside him. Playing McArthur wide but narrow masks some of the deficiencies we saw from him tonight but gets the best out of his running. With a narrow midfield the onus is on him and Meyer to support the front men, and on the full-backs to push on like they were in the first 20 minutes of the second half.
Hopefully, too, the different shape and personnel will result in some more fluid movement, and get the players zipping the ball around with a bit more urgency.
