After seeing that what we have on paper now produces on the pitch, I'm at the point where I'm looking up the table rather than down.
A win against Southampton and we could potentially be tenth, or thereabouts.
I know Hull won and they need 5 points to pass us but I think 2 wins from us will put us safe - 37 points. I can't see the rest catching that.
The most reliable stat on league placement, I believe, is players salaries and I think we are the 14th biggest spenders (please correct me if I am wrong - I saw this around the start of the season but we have brought in players in the January transfer window that won't be cheap.)
So as I think we'll get those 2 wins other factors come in. How high in the league can we be - 9th seems possible at best. What's the realistic maximum points we can achieve. Which of the big spending clubs will we beat next. Being safe and drilling Manure at Old Trafford in the last game of the season.... All the bright things :)
If we beat Southampton in the week I'll be hoping for Hull to stay up and with any luck West Ham to go down, maybe Leicester as deserving too .
Anyone else getting as excited as me?
