I've been doing a fair bit of research ahead of our game with City this weekend as have been asked to write a couple of articles for it.
What has stood out for me is that of their 10 goals so far this season:
2 were from corners, both from the left (Silva) out-swingers headed exactly on the corner of the 6 yard box (near post) by Kompany into the far corner (top and bottom respectively).
1 was a Toure screamer from a central position - he loves coming through the middle.
7 of their 10 goals (70%!) were either started down the wing or finished from a wide position (near the sides of the penalty area). With nearly all of them coming down the right hand side.
City love to play it wide and stretch teams and then either put the cross in or find a pocket of space in the area for one of their players to pick it up (they are fantastic at picking out any pass). So for me the game could be won, drawn or lost on that right flank (our left side). Souare is going to need to be at his very best defensively - something a lot of people have questioned so far. We will also need whoever plays down that left wing (Wilf or Yannick?) to do an awful lot of tracking back and to do it damn well.
Also something I noted (may be a common theme haven't paid any attention before) City's general rule seems to be you aim for the far post until you get within about 6-10 yards and then it's usually the inside of the keeper at any angle. Perhaps unsurprisingly most of their play in the final third is all one or two touch football, especially at close quarters - another thing they are fantastic at. Boy this is not going to be easy :D
