Rental Car Insurance
I will be in the UK in June. I will be renting from Hertz and my insurance policy does not cover rental cars in the UK. What's the most cost-efficient way to purchase rental car insurance?
Portugal 0 Cape Verde 2
Portugal tonight lost 2-0 at home to the football power that is Cape Verde.
Cape Verde shut out Portugal with relative ease and could have grabbed a third goal if it was not for a last ditch professional foul which resulted in a red card for the Portuguese defender.

Going to Euro 2016
Never been to a tournament with England before but now I'm having a bit of a midlife crisis and fancy taking number one son to France.
I'm not an England member so I should imagine I've got no chance of getting tickets.
What are the chances of going out for a couple of group games and finding a couple of tickets from different sources (sponsors, touts etc)?
We wouldn't mind watching games not involving England.
And if we can't get tickets I presume we could still have a good time drinking beer and watching matches on the big screen.
Anyone else just packed their bags and gone to a tournament? How did you get on?
It all sounds terrifyingly devil may care for someone as cautious as me.

Pardew, interview with Bright + Thomas and Dowie on international TV now
Watching great interview on BeIn Sport for the international Football Today with Bright interviewing Pardew. Geoff Thomas and Dowie are the studio guests with questions. I sadly have just caught the last five minutes but have taped the replay.
Pardew talked about how Steve Parish had sold him the vision on where he could take the club. They spoke about how the players could sense the club was going somewhere. Really positive stuff.
Richardson doing some analysis now

Transporting the brood about
The good lady and I are expecting bundle of joy number 3 in the next few months, wasn't really part of the plan but came as a pleasant surprise! This means that we will have a 3 year old, a 1 year old and a brand new one.
Aside from minor issues such as not having enough space in the house I'm slightly concerned that we won't be able to fit all 3 in the back of our Seat Leon. When I was a nipper we all fitted in the back of a 1970's Beetle but that was when the boot was viewed as an appropriate option if you'd run out of seats.
With child's car seats being the size of an F1 seat these days I'm looking for some hints and tips on what car that will comfortably fit 3 car seats as well as all the associated kiddie paraphernalia(prams etc). I'm assuming an MPV of some description but this is all slightly outside my comfort zone.
Looking to spend about £4k, the wife has issues with stationary objects when driving so no point going new.
Over to you guys.

Palace and Pardew; Perfect Partners
I wasn't too sure about AP when we got him. I did think he was the best we could get, but how good a fit was he really? He put the ball in the Scousers net alright, but he wasn't a hero or anything.
The other day he made a comment which made me think, actually we 100% got the right man. I think it was after the QPR game, when he said about how important wingers were at this club, and went on to say, 'Steve Coppell would be proud, of the wingers', and I thought 3 things, how great to have a manager who even thinks about Sir Steve let alone brings him totally naturally into a conversation, how right he was about wingers, and how nice that one of AP's first thoughts after a match would be how SC would feel about it.
Welcome home Super Al.

Rules are as follows
1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.
2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)
3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).
4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.
5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.
6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.
7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.
8 Singles and upwards accepted.
9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.
10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2
11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.
12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.
13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..
14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You cant shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.
15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher
16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)
17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Did anyone watch BBC's "The Ark" last night?
As one of the resident non-believers on this website, I was of two minds whether to watch this last night or not. Coming hot on the heals of Russell Crowe's "Noah", it seemed a little too soon for another rendering of this Biblical story. Anyway, nothing much else on any other channel at primetime viewing last night, so I decided to give it a go, especially as I am quite interested in the flood myths, and apparently every ancient civilisation has one.
Tony Jordan, who writes Eastenders did the script, and I suppose as a Christian he wanted to reflect the present problems and evils of the world with those of around 4500 years ago in a religious context, and this he managed to do quite well. After that, everything fell apart and the whole one and a half hours was pretty laughable. Noah, played by ex-Shameless David Threlfall, had a nice Manchester accent, and bits of Geordie were thrown in here and there for good measure.
Anyway, we had the building of the ark to look forward to, the gathering storm clouds on the horizon, and of course, all the animals walking two by two into the ark. Expecting the BBC's CGI team to go rampant with this material, we were treated with a couple of minutes of graphics off set, that could have been put together in a school computer room. No animals at all apart from the odd goat and horse. No scenes of the waters lifting the ark, men women and children drowning, etc, just an image of a few waves that instantly appeared, totally out of context, something that was supposed to represent some cracks under the sea, and finally, an image of the earth from outer space covered with hurrican type smudges all over it. Then, equally out of context, we go back to set with Noah picking up bone dry sand, with a few pools of water airbrushed in the distant sand hollows.
Well, I am not surprised that the ark was not shown floating, as it resembled an outsized larch lapped square garden shed, firmly rooted to the ground.
Tony Jordan apparently has six more of these Biblical stories to offer to the BBC. As long as you enjoyed "The Life of Brian" then you have a treat to look forward to.

Which Palace player(s) will be targeted in the summer?
It's bound to happen, we've been doing well for almost two seasons, we have some exciting players yet not many get talked about in the transfer gossip columns. I'm asking this as for years we've been a selling club and it feels weird that we're doing well and no-one is approaching the club to buy our talent.
Man City game in Glasgow
lundi 30 mars 2015
Do any palace fans, if there are any, in glasgow, want to watch the city game next Monday? I'm thinking the Crystal Palace near central? They have a big screen etc.
Tidal - New Streaming Service (for crazies)
A bunch of famous musicians decided to launch their own streaming service today called Tidal. You can look at what they have to offer at To view the link you have to Register or Login .
So basically, you are paying twice as much for what I assume is less. Of course, it's all about the music. (Or human art, at least)
Not sure how long before all these people's music disappears from your favorite current streaming service. Luckily I don't listen to any of these people's music anyway.
Quote:
How much music is available in TIDAL? The catalog in TIDAL is always growing. Currently, we have licensed over 25 million tracks for you to enjoy. How much does TIDAL cost? After your free trial period has ended, the monthly charge is $19.99 in the US, CAD 19.99 in Canada, and £19.99 in the UK. |

Where would you like to see them play if this happens?
I wouldnt mind a west coast swing. Maybe a stop over on the east coast with a game out there. Then LA and Sacramento or SJ if it has to be! On their way between LA and Northern California they could stop at Buck Owens Crystal Palace honky tonk and museum in Bakersfield!
I dont think Alan [Pardew] will want to travel too much. - SP
So maybe the west coast is out of sorts but that would be a lovely scenario but with my luck of the last tour I wont be able to go!

What ever happened to Rudi Hedman?
Was just watching the video of the 1990 Crystal Palace Football team singing Glad all Over on YouTube. It's here if you wanna see it To view the link you have to Register or Login .
It got me thinking, what happened to all of them?
The obvious ones like Pardew went on to manage in the PL, currently managing us:lux:
Mark Bright who is now a sports pundit on BBC, British Eurosport and Al Jazeera, as well as a coach at Crystal Palace.
John Salako went on to be a match day correspondent for Sky Sports.
Richard Shaw is currently the U16 Head Coach at the Crystal Palace Academy.
John Pemberton is current assistant manager at Bristol City.
Rich Cawley interviewed Phil Barber in 2009 who was supposedly doing really well with his gardening business.
Gary O'Reilly went into sports broadcasting and has been a pundit and a commentator in Dubai for ART Prime Sports.
Geoff Thomas's life has been well documented after Football. Beating cancer being one of the hardest challenges of his life.
Dave Madden lives in Chigwell with his family.
Nigel Martyn did an interview back in October 2013, he dabbles in media work but otherwise prefers to spend time with his family.
But Rudi Hedman, nobody seems to heard a whisper about him! What happened to Hedman, anybody know what hes doing now?

Odd internet connection issue.
Need you techy types to give me some help here.
We have a Samsung laptop which my daughter uses. When she goes to turn it on it fails to connect to our home BT internet network. It will connect to the BT Fon option but only if the internet hub is reset will it then successfully connect to the home network.
Run all the diagnostic checks and nothing seems to come up much beyond it telling us to re-start the hub. Which would be all well and good but doing such a harmless thing leads to murder from my little boy who is invariably roaming some daft mine craft world looking to chop up any 'newbs' who are apparently the scum of the earth and has to momentarily give up this dubious pleasure.
Any thoughts ? (not on the newbs who I am sure are charming people)

If we're looking for a winger for competition come the Summer I think we could do a lot worse. Never made it at Chelsea currently playing in the Bundasliga and looked good when he came on for Israel - although I do understand shining for Israel is one thing ready for the prem is something different.
Flying High - Issue Seven - Out v Man City
Even though it's a bit of a wait until the next Palace game thanks to this infernal International break, we've put together a new issue of Flying High, which will be on sale at the Manchester City match on Monday April 6th.
We'll have sellers around the ground, all going well at the top of the Holmesdale, the gates by Main Stand and in the fan-park-food-whatever-that-place-is-called and possibly some of the local pubs. The mag will cost you just £1.50 and below are some of the features we have between the covers:
We also have an exclusive Andy Dorman diary (may or may not be actually written by Dorman...), The S*** List by Streatham Redskins Ice Hockey Captain (and Palace fan) Joe Johnston, Dave's Moans and more.

- Pardew v Pulis - Both performed miracles with Palace, but who do we enjoy more?
- All Squad Cons - We look at the depth of the squad and how it stacks up against our rivals
- Part of the Establishment - Are we an established Premier League team? Will we ever be?
- Red N Blue Army - Fan faction v Fan faction and the wonders of a goalscoring Glenn Murray.

Boiler question/recommendation
dimanche 29 mars 2015
After several weeks of having lukewarm baths and showers that flit between hot and cold it's probably time I do something about it.
It runs hot water for a few seconds, then goes cold.
My wife's dad did some research and all the pressure seems fine...
1) anyone got any simple things I might be able to do.
2) can someone recommend a person to come and have a look who's not going to rip me off. Cheers

Questions for the over 40's.
Heres a couple of questions for supporters of any club on here....might be some interesting answers....we shall see.
1] Have you ever done the Poznan............
2] Is there any songs your fans sing that you feel are too childish to join in with.........
3] Are you for or against drums in your crowd...
4] When we go to watch our mates over in Belgium we are allowed only to dob in with a local Ultra group, high up in a stand....there they have a lad who conducts the singing for that particular area using a megaphone....widely used abroad and probably in B-Block Palace .....for or against.
5]Would you like a 3000 block for safe standing based on the German model....take your pick which one...for or against.....
6] Leicester v West Ham.....home win,draw or away win....:D

I would find it intensely boring even now I am losing some interest in the last few games with Palace looking safe .

Idea for new song
Apologies for my last thread, I honestly hadn't realised that there was already an existing thread on the same topic. Hope I don't recieve a negative reputation for it..
I thought of a new song that we could all get going at Palace and wanted feedback. I honestly think this could replace glad all over when the players come out!

Ridicloulsy catchy and I think this would spread in a matter of weeks. I'm in the main stand for Man City and would like to get this going. Share this on facebook/twitter/MySpace or whatever you youngsters are using nowadays on the internet and get this viral.

Match Ticket Information Tickets left for April 6?
Hey guys, newcomer from the Netherlands hoping to have an Eagles experience this Easter with his son.
Now I am happy becoming an Int. member of CPFC (well, wallet less happy), but I like to know in advance if there are any tickets left for the game against City. Of course I can not yet login to the online Box office to check and I am doubtful if a 'sold out' were to be stated anywhere on the site.
Hope you can tell me more about ticket availability, especially with regard to visiting with my son aged 10. I understood that AW stand should than be our pick.
Thanks in advance!

Hangeland
As you know we've lost Joe Ledley in the Wales game, so we will need a combative midfielder in the CDM position alongside McArthur, it's looking like we may have to play somebody out of position to cover that role. I was thinking Hangeland is quite composed, has impressive control and passing ability for a centre back and thought he could cover for Joe.
Him or Joel Ward to cover.

Alan Pardew song
I was in deep thought earlier whist I was mowing my front lawn. I was wondering what are the actual words of the Super Alan Pardew song?
Is it "ALLL! Super Al!" or "Super! Super Al!"
At Stoke half our supporters we're screaming "ALLL!" and half were going "SUPER!"
Personally I think it should be "All" rather than "Super" as I think it sounds top notch.
Who's for "Al" and who's for "Super"?
By the way to all those wondering, yes I am prepared for the carnage/massive debate this post will cause..

What a glorious time it is to be a Palace fan. Happy Days.
My first Palace match was in 1965.
Seen a lot of heart ache and rough times supporting Palace since then as well as the exciting and fun periods.
Our present owners and Steve Parish are ,in my view , starting to establish a track record which could have them remembered as the finest owners that the Club has had in my lifetime. What a hugely positive impact they are making and what a joy it is week on week to have the Club in their hands.
Happy Days and such great plans to establish Palace as a true force in the Premiership. Wonderful stuff and something we should all really enjoy and cherish.
Absolutely loving the direction that our Club is moving in at the moment. Let's all celebrate our progress :lux::lux::lux::lux::lux:

Injury time?.
vendredi 27 mars 2015
Had my first go on one of those 'what's gonna happen in the game?' bets today England v Lithuania. Got six out of seven right. Lost on amount of injury time at the very end but here's the thing: had it as 'four minutes plus'. Well was feeling confident as there was a three minute injury delay around 78mins and six substitutions in the second half and a few bookings.
No. Three minutes injury time given only. Thought bookings and sub time counted toward. Was I wrong?

Academy at Madrid tournament
The CPFC Academy have a number of sides going to Madrid today to take part in a junior tournament. They will play against sides from amongst others, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Hamburg and PSG. Thanks to the sponsorship by the CPFC Vice Presidents the Academy under 11' and under 9s' are going. Wish them luck. CPFC are the only English club there. Telemadrid and Marca TV are broadcasting it across Europe. Great publicity for CPFC. Mores the pity that our web site ignores their participation in such a prestigious tournament . Too much to hope for a report in the next programme?
Selhurst Six (CPFC Supporters' 6aside @ Selhurst Pk) - Sat 30th May
To view the link you have to Register or Login
I'm delighted to announce that the Selhurst Six supporters tournament on the Selhurst pitch will be back this year on Saturday May 30th!
After two successive disappointments, when the event was cancelled in 2013 due to CPFCs play-off adventure, with the first team players requiring use of the pitch (who do they think they are!?!?!), and then in 2014 after the final home match was moved by TV companies, we have been working hard with the club to ensure this years event could go ahead. All parties are confident that this season we have a date that cannot be moved.
The event coincides with the annual To view the link you have to Register or Login , so not only can you score a screamer on the hallowed turf, but as the tournament enters the knockout stages, the Holmesdale Rd end will start to fill with spectators cheering you on. You can then recuperate with some well earned nectar.
The format is similar to previous years; 16 six-aside teams will compete in four mini-leagues, with the winners and runners up going through to knockout stages.
We anticipate this event being oversubscribed. In the interest of fairness therefore, we have decided this year to invite entries from team captains up until April Friday 17th April, after which a ballot will determine the successful applicants.
To enter, please send me a PM. You will be asked to pay a £50 deposit (returnable if unsuccessful in the ballot), with the remainder (£150) due before May 8th.
* Entry price includes 8 beer festival tickets. Access to the stadium on the day will not be granted without a beer festival ticket (i.e. additional players and spectators will have to purchase additional tickets at £10 each from To view the link you have to Register or Login )

Whiskey question
I don't know anything about whiskey to be honest but this always confuses me.
If a popular brand of whiskey is sold at Aged 12 years.
Does that mean they must have the equivalent of a 50m swimming pool of the stuff stashed away?
Sounds a bit far fetched to make up loads of the stuff hoping that they will shift it all 12 years later?

Discussion: Which current players might be transfer targets?
We have a summer transfer suggestions thread but what about other clubs looking at our players.
On the basis we are likely to finish mid-table surely there will be some clubs out there who might take more than a second look.
I suppose top of the list has to be Bolasie. Then we have solid defenders like Dann and Ward. I'm sure that we are not looking to sell but we know that there are clubs out there that can easily double their wages.
Could we resist offers say in excess of £10m if the takeover falls through. Also would the players want to leave which is the 64 million dollar question.

Official: Appiah to Reading on loan
Thought this one might have gone away but Palace have just announced it 15 minutes after the loan window shut. Think he's away with Ghana at the moment, but would be good to see him tested at a level that we all understand.

Slow hand clapping
I just remembered for many games in the mid 70s if Palace weren't playing well the whole ground would start slow hand clapping. How far removed is that now from the HF and our general support? Can you imagine that now and the BBS reaction to it? I also remember it was heard on Match of the Day against Rotherham in 1976-77 and we even won 2-1 (Ricky Heppolette scored).
We had almost won the bloody cup the year before!

Looks like it's a cheaper release for now to test it and see if there is an audience for it, but I'll definitely be checking it out. :lux:

Henry Winter re Zaha
Henry Winter has written a piece about young English players that haven't done enough to push their careers forwards. He named Wickham, Ince, Ravel Morrison and our very own Wilf. I heard him talking about it on the radio earlier and he referred to Wilf being disgracefully arrogant at an under 21 tournament a couple of years ago. He said that he upset teammates and the coaching staff and that he would have a lot of work to do to persuade the England set up to consider him again in future.
I don't remember hearing about any of this at the time. Wilf always seems pretty shy to me. Does anyone know anything about what happened?

More proof that Palace are bigger than plucky little Brighton
To view the link you have to Register or Login
we are bigger in all categories. Our position is skewed by the strange decision to base crowds since 1889 ! Would be interesting to see position if they ignored trophies and did crowds over last, say 30 years.
Anyway, which ever way you slice and dice it we are bigger than Brighton :D
Shame it doesn't adjust for embarrassing fans since they'd be even worse :D

Neteller Access All Areas
Apologies if there's AATOT. In the interests of fairness, I've included all the links, but please vote for my good friend Helen.
Neteller are currently running an 'access all areas' competition. 3 fans have a chance to win a fantastic prize including match tickets, a chance to train with the players and take penalties against Julian Speroni (and also dine at his restaurant)
The 3 fans have performed commentary on some Palace goals.
In order to vote you need to 're tweet' Neteller's tweet or your favourite fan.

Poor Doors
Sorry but this is something that passed me by. Heard on the local news that there are blocks of flats where some occupiers have to enter through different doors because they're affordable or social housing tenants. Is that right?
What reasons do the developers give for this?
Sorry but I've not followed this story at all and I may have just misunderstood.

If John "PFC" Westwood was a Palace fan
mardi 24 mars 2015
I've always admired John Westwood for the manor in which he dresses at football matches. It just fascinates me how visually striking he looks in all his gear.
I was wondering earlier whist I was on the toilet, if any Palace fans would appreciate it if I were to follow in his footsteps so to speak? as I would like to make my dream a reality by becoming Crystal Palace's version.
I've already changed my name by deed poll to get myself started, however the polish fellow who changed it for me spelt Palace wrong. My middle name is now "Crystal Place" which I'm not too happy about.
If any of you have some suggestions on what items you'd like to me to wear I'd love to hear your feedback. But you should all be aware that I'm willing to go above and beyond John Westwood. I'm going to show you all I'm more bonkers than he is.

Buying a house/flat to rent out
As I'm earning an income and still happy living at home, I thought it may be a worthwhile investment to pay for a deposit on a property and then rent it out so the people renting are effectively paying off most of the mortgage.
I'm still a few years away from being able to afford a deposit on a property in London in the first place.
Has anyone done this before or have any general tips for househunting and/or being a landlord? How easy or hard it is to find tennants? Or have any ideas on what sort of area I should be aiming for? Was thinking about looking towards the 'trendy' east London area of Shoreditch, Hoxton, Bethnal Green etc.
Thanks

Investment funds
Got a small lump sum to put into my pension fund.
Aviva have told me I need to choose which fund to put it in and have pointed me to a site that shows the performance of their different funds over the last 5 years.
The best performers that I would consider are:
Equities
Index linked gilts
Property
Mixed Investment
Any thoughts on the outlook for these different types of investment over the next 10 years?

Sounds you don't hear anymore
There is an advert running at the moment ( the product escapes me) where there is the sound of a modem connecting.. I haven't heard that for years now, and it got me thinking of things of you just don't hear now. A couple of others sprang to mind, like the sound of grating gears on a lorry that was commonplace in the good ol bad ol days, and Ne Nah sirens on emergency vehicles.. Starting to struggle to remember anymore , so over to you lot , what sounds can you remember that you don't hear now ? :p
Zaha vs Bolasie
lundi 23 mars 2015
Who is better?
At the moment I think Bolasie is a bit better as hes a bit more proven and has 6 assist to his name this season but I feel Zaha is improving immensely and is very much showing signs that he will reach the potential he was destined for in the promotion season. Isn't it amazing that we have two of the most exciting wingers in the league?! Comparison is hard.
How about you who is better and your reasons why?

Kew on a Plate
Watched this tonight and was astounded that they were promoting breeding bees that would focus on a specific strawberry plant to gather pollen.
Just how ******* dumb is that if these bees breed with a wild swarm?
Bees that will only look for a single species of strawberry is a step too far.

Dissertation Survey - please help
Hi all
I don't post on here too often thesedays (with the way things are going currently, I'll continue to stay away and not jinx things!) however I'd appreciate a little help from the BBS to help my mate Ryan (fellow Palace fan but non BBS'er) with his final year University dissertation, by completing this short survey on crime and the media.

The Handball Law
I was working all weekend. Long shifts too.
I listened to the Stoke game on Radio London. The commentator described Stoke's penalty appeal as "ball to hand" and that it would have been harsh if it had been given. Having now seen the highlights it looks like Ward pulled off a point blank wonder save.
Do we have any referees on here who can definitively advise on what constitutes handball? I hear idiot pundits talking all the time about arms being in an unnatural shape or that he couldn't possibly have got out of the way of that.
I am sure none of those things are in the laws of the game.

Best of friends, best of times. Palace youngsters rewarded with pro deals
Did an interview with two of Palace's U18/U21 players, Will Hoare and Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong after they were given professional contracts by the club. They're best friends and have been at the club since the age of eight. JBA was playing in those cages which were removed to make way for the extension of the car park, when he was spotted and given a trial by Palace.

Advise on getting tickets
Want to bring my boy to his first ever Palace game so was looking to get a pair of tickets in the Whitehorse Lane stand. I'm a member but whenever I look the only place you can get 2 seats together is the AW which is no good for me.
Does anyone know if it is likely more pairs will become available in the Whitehorse, or is this stand unlikely to have tickets coming up for sale?
Help appreciated.

Reconditioned desk top PC's.
The current 'home' PC is getting a bit tired with the clock not remembering the time and so on and its years old so looking for something to replace it. We don't do any high level gaming (if it can run Minecraft at good speed then all the better but that is about as complicated as it gets) and its primarily for web browsing and other basic stuff. Got a good monitor so its just the base unit we need.
Any suggestions on companys or websites to look at ? Perfectly happy with Windows 7 and so on (in fact it would be preferable as that is what we are used to). Needs to be 'plug and play' ready and we will be physically plugging the router in with a cable.

The Robert Eaton Memorial Cup, Fri 24 April at The Dripping Pan, Lewes FC
I've also put this up on NorthStandChat and further details are on
Be good to see some of you again...
Why Football really is, 'The People's Game'...
Each year the supporters of Brighton and Hove Albion face off against fans of their arch rivals Crystal Palace in the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund Challenge Match.
Usually close games and always played in the best spirit, the matches have become a popular fixture - regularly drawing crowds upwards of 300-400.
The match is now a permanent fixture at Lewes FC's Dripping Pan ground, and this years game is on Friday, April 24, 7:45pm kick off.
Although the fixture is aimed at supporters, there have been some high profile former professionals including in the line-ups over the years, such as Albion legend Peter Ward, Robert Eaton's favourite player Ricky Marlow, one-time Palace and Brighton midfielder Simon Rodger, Peter Taylor and ex-Albion captain Paul Rogers.
Each year a member of Robert's family attends to present the trophies and tens of thousands of pounds have been raised through player sponsorship and gate receipts.
On the morning of September 11 2001, Brighton & Hove Albion fan Robert Eaton was going about his usual day's work on the 105th floor of the World Trade Centre in New York.
But, as the aeroplanes struck, it became clear Robert would never watch his beloved Seagulls again. He wouldn't even make it home. He was one of over 3,000 innocent lives which were lost that tragic day.
Despite living in New York, Robert remained an avid Seagulls fan using online fans' forum North Stand Chat to keep up to date with all things Albion. Posting under the username Ricky Marlowe's Hairpiece, he was a popular figure among the sites regulars. Chances are he would have logged on later that day for the latest transfer news, club gossip and irreverent ramblings.
However, as fans here in England saw the drama unfolding through live news broadcasts, thoughts turned away from the Albion to New York...and Robert.
The news filtered back that Robert had been caught in the attacks. His death hit home with Seagulls fans everywhere and brought a sense of realism to the distant drama being told and retold on breaking news bulletins.
As news of his death spread, friends and fellow supporters were determined the popular Albion fan would not be forgotten.
The Robert Eaton Memorial Fund (REMF) was formed. The principle idea was to hold a charity match and use the money to help fund a junior football club in Roberts adopted home across the Pond. Later that year the first REMF game took place - a challenge match between Brighton Supporters and Crystal Palace Supporters in front of more than 1,000 fans with the team of Brighton Supporters losing on penalties. Yes, THAT Crystal Palace. Rivalries were put aside in Roberts name and thousands of pounds was raised.
That cash helped provide football equipment to Los Peladitos a youth football team in Queens, New York helping promote societal benefits of playing football, while helping underprivileged Latino children gain soccer scholarships to US universities. And, shortly after the match, a party led by Roberts parents headed to the Big Apple to see how the money was being spent.
Doug Eaton, Roberts father, was moved by what he saw being achieved in memory of his son. They didn't speak English, but while we couldn't communicate we were very pleased to see them he says. There's no doubt they were very hard up. You tend to think of Americans as having plenty of money but these were all young families, there simply trying to establish themselves in a new country.
Since that initial match, the REMF football challenge has become a popular annual fixture on the calendar of many Albion fans. Doug and his wife Laura are regulars at the match, presenting the trophies and taking comfort from the fact Roberts name is being kept alive in such a fitting way.
It is also fair to say, the success of REMF as a charity has provided some small comfort to the Eatons,Yes it has helped us cope, Doug reveals, because out of something pretty horrible other people have benefited and a little bit of good has come out of it. It doesnt usually happen like that. From that point of view the whole family is pleased to give support as much as we can.
To think that out of such a tragedy so much goodness can come is amazing really.
The REMF has gone on to raise more than £100,000 since that first, hastily arranged, match. Nobody really knew how the charity would develop, how long it would run for nor how much interest there would be in it. Even the most optimistic couldnt have foreseen how successful it would become.
The annual match is now just one part of the REMF, with an annual golf day, a quiz night, a regular five-a-side tournament and more marathon runners and fundraisers than you could shake a stick at. Even friendly bets among friends end up benefiting the charity.
And, as well as the budding Beckhams of Los Peladitos, the REMF has poured thousands of pounds into youth football closer to home.
The Seagulls Specials club, which works with disabled youngsters, has been given £7,000 to help with their amazing work as well and another eight clubs have benefited from the charitys fundraising - including junior teams in Croydon in recognition of the vital part played by our new found friends in South London.
Elsewhere, Coaching For Hope a charity which uses football to support youngsters orphaned by the Aids epidemic in areas like Cambodia has been given £3,000 while Albion in the Community was recently given a £30,000 mini bus.
The charity continues to go from strength to strength scooping The Argus newspapers Charity of the Year award along the way.
It is now more than ten years since Robert's untimely death. According to the funds former chairman Gareth Glover, the first decade has just been the beginning. He said, The REMF has become a real success story and shows just what can be achieved by football fans when rivalries are put to one side. It would not be possible without the continued support of Crystal Palace fans and the many people who work behind the scenes.
More than 500 children from New York, Africa, South Africa, Croydon and Sussex have been given the opportunity to play football in memory of Robert. Everyone involved is determined to continue to support good and worthy causes in the local area and beyond. What better way to honour Robert's memory?
And what would Robert have thought of it all? It's great, says Doug Eaton. It's something I think Rob would have applauded without a doubt.
So far the REMF has raised tens of thousands for young footballers, crossed footballing rivalries and seen the charity establish itself and a real part of Brighton & Hove Albion.
Long may it continue.

Notts County sack Shaun Derry
As the title says - just been sacked according to BBC.
Disappointed it hasn't worked out for him.
Disappointed it hasn't worked out for him.
Suggestion: Abou Diaby
OK, so he is quite possibly the most injured man ever, I accept that.
He has had 42 injuries since he has been at Arsenal.
He has been injured 46% of the time he has been at the club, I know that.
However, on his day, he is top drawer.
He is almost certain to be released at the end of the season.
How would people feel about signing him on a pay as you play deal to prove his fitness?
He has experience and has apparently been one consistently one of the brightest in the Arsenal dressing room.
He would not have to relocate and knows Chamakh.

Why do teams relegated from the Prem disappear?
dimanche 22 mars 2015
Was just looking at the Championship table (which hopefully we won't need to be looking at for a loooong time!:p) and it struck me how many of the recently relegated premiership teams are struggling either in the relegation zone (Wigan, Blackpool) or very close to it (Fulham, Cardiff).
My question is - why? Most of the time when we were in the Champ it was assumed that the relegated teams would be looking to bounce back straight away. I understand that relegated teams often lose some of their best players, but taking into account parachute payments etc I simply can't understand how teams can fade away like that! Any ideas?!n

We deserve to be here
I get fed up with reading and hearing about how we are riding our luck, our players are average, we have less quality then other premier league teams and that there players would walk into our team. The reason we are 11th is because we are good enough, we are better then those other teams and our players are better then we give credit for and are better then some of the bigger names in the league. Shake off the palace of old pessimistic approach and let's push on as a club and accept that we have put together a great squad and unless something goes remarkably wrong (which it definately wont) then we cannot **** this up. COYP
Route 66
I have this crazy idea to walk the whole of Route 66, all 2,451 miles of it and wondered if it was logistically possible. Wondered if anyone had driven it, and is the romance of it not reflected in reality.
We could soon have the world's first Melephant.

How many Newcastle players would get in Palace Team
Went to Stoke yesterday and there was an interesting conversation going on behind me at Half Time, how many Newcastle players would get in our Team if Pardew wanted to nick any, what do peoples think
Discussion: Summer suggestions
First and most importantly PLEASE KEEP HOLD OF BOLASIE AND DANN. I think if this supposed takeover does happen then we can afford some rather decent players. I believe a striker, ball playing CM and a CB are the priority. I suggest:
One Striker out of:
Gestede 5 mil
Austin 10 mil
Ings 8 mil
Sakho 8 mil
Remy 10 mil
Cisse 6 mil
CM out of:
Nzonzi 7 mil
Koyate 5 mil
Cabaye 8 mil
CB out of:
Van Djik 9 mil
Shakell 2 mil
Lovren 6 mil
Nastasic 7 mil

Discussion: Transfer Policy
Glanced at article in Mail today by Glenn Hoddle . It was about about English failure in Champions League . He made good point that only 5 British players started and all the managers were foreign . Main point is it time to stop thinking overseas players and managers are better - he compared Ferindinho of Man City against Mason of Tottenham - £35m difference.
Think I like balance of our squad and would hate us to be like Newcastle for example . Dann Delaney Ward McArthur Puncheon Ledley Zaha Murray Kelly with the likes of Speroni Jedinak Chamakh Bolasie - perfect . Hope we continue this way would hate us to lose identity .

As good as it gets
When we won the playoffs I honestly thought we would have one season in the Premiership and then if we were lucky be a yo yo team for a few years. To have two mid table finishes back to back, billionaire owners investing in the club and a top premier league manager, is this as good as it gets?
Suggestion: Jordan Botaka
Just seen Bolasie post a clip of this man on facebook.
Seems a similar player to Yala and Wilf but could be a decent addition. Plays strongly into our 'tear there full backs apart' philosophy
currently at Excelsior in Holland, a mid to low table team
I know anyone can look decent on youtube but here

Next Goal Wins Documentary
Anyone watched this? It's currently showing on Sky Prem about the American Samoa international football team or soccer as they call it. They have the dubious honour of losing to Australia 31 - 0 which is a record for an international match and the first trans gender player to play for an international team. Also they are the lowest world ranked nation.
I really enjoyed it, worth a watch.

Full season Pulis/Pardew
Not sure if my figures are 100% accurate but I think if you combine league games under Pulis and Pardew
Pulis Played 26 Points 38
Pardew Played 11 Points 20
Total Played 37 Points 58
Last season 58 points would have guaranteed 8th place, just above Southampton and just below Man Utd
Don't know what the comparison is with with Holloway/Warnock but sure it would be dramatic, shows what a huge difference a good experienced manager can have. Fingers crossed we can keep Pardew for a full season next year.

The Yellow Away Kit
Cardiff, West Ham and Everton end of last season!
Our only away kit this season and a huge hit. Most of our best performances have come away from home this season. Always been of the opinion that a bright one-tone kit can help a team pick out their teammates easier. Obviously not as important as the 11 players on the field, the fans being the 12th man, but if the kit can play a small role as 13th, let's not change it.
Keep the Yellow Kit in 2015/2016 :p

Man City, you will be in for a hell of a game
What a night Easter Monday will be .Selhurst under lights ,game on Sky ,sell out crowd ,reigning league champions coming to visit , Palace a win away from safety (only 4 times ever have teams gone down with 39pts).
BRING IT ON

Wrong man sent off
So West Brom had the wrong man sent off, they will appeal and win - but there will be no ban (ie Sunderland) for the player who should have got sent off. Is this right?
Can you all stop posting crap about us getting relegated now?
It's not going to happen. Move on i have :lux:

Match Updates: 21/22 March weekend football
I see it's taken just two minutes of the weekend's premier league football for the first refereeing mistake. Dawson certainly seems to lead a charmed life.
A lino just gave this offside
:eek::eek::eek::D
The cross deflected off the defender and the striker (at the penalty spot) tapped it in and the lino raised her flag and called this offside

Suggestion: Kiko Casilla
As there seem to be numerous keeper suggestion threads. I think if we are looking for a long term successor to Jules then we should aim a bit higher than Championship keepers, who have had maybe a good half or season.
Casilla has been tracked by Liverpool, he has played for Spain and is currently at Espanyol. All daunting, but this is the type of ambitious signing we should be trying to make. Tall, commands his area well, terrific in one on ones, and some of the most ridiculous reflexes I have ever seen. Oh and his distribution is top notch too.
If anything I would liken us going for Casilla a bit like Southampton signing Forster. Sometimes you need a solid keeper to win you points rather than looking at the obvious striker bagging you goals.
Well that's my two pence worth. Loads of his saves etc on youtube which I know doesn't show his whole game but one save in particular vs Celta is honestly one of the best I think I have ever seen.

Suggestion: David Button?
I don't think I have seen him but his stats would single him out as someone worth a look. Only 26 years old and is 6'3" tall and seems to have done well this year. Over the next few years he should be at his peak.
Anyone seen him and know what he is like? I can't say I have taken any notice of him before.

Discussion: An Arsenal keeper
Is there any chance that we could sign one of Arsenal's keepers next season, should we be in the market for a keeper?
Arsenal are likely to try to bring in a keeper, which would leave them with:
1. New keeper
2. Wojciech Szczęsny
3. David Ospina
4. Emiliano Martínez
Is it not possible that one of 2,3 or 4 is within our grasp if guaranteed first team football?
Even if they don't bring in a new number one, could Martinez or Ospina be lured here?

Rumour: Alecsander Mitrovic
Reported in the Mirror (I know), the young 20 year old Serbian International striker from Anderlecht is on our radar along with Everton, Swansea and QPR. He's scored 17 goals so far including one against Arsenal in the Champions League.
Eagle Painting up for charity auction
Hi all,
Hope this sufficiently Palace-related for GPD!
My best mate and Season ticket holder Trevor Fletcher has kindly donated a beautiful painting, 'On Eagles' Wings' in acrylics on canvas to auction as part of my efforts to raise as much as possible for Breast Cancer Campaign (see link in sig).
Thought this might be of interest to Palace fans, and I'd be really grateful for your support in boosting the total.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Stoke (A)
This can be a tricky one. Who should play in midfield ?
Chamakh out, Zaha and Puncheon 50/50. And of course no Jedi, Lee.
Let's assume they are all out;
Speroni
Kelly - Dann - Delaney - Souare
Ledley - Ward
Bolasie - McArthur - Gayle
Murray
Of couse both Puncheon and Zaha will take a place and move Ward back at rightback and Kelly at left if they are fit.

Peter Cook
Found this on you tube.He is talking about a Tottenham v Palace game in 1977,skip to 8.38 or watch all to see Peter Taylor doing a cringe impression of Norman Wisdom and when Elton John didn't speak like he had a plum in his mouth. Worth a watch for the cheese factor its a bit less professional than the punditry nowadays. Anyway had forgotten what a comical genius Peter was, think i will dust down my Derek and Clive live album and give it a listen for the first time in years. Watching (other) Football
I've noticed probably more threads this year than other years relating to other games which are taking place, including ones for competitions not including Palace (FA Cup after we were knocked out, Champions League etc).
Not threads discussing the competition / results, but match update threads and the like.
Clearly, some people like football, and will watch any match which happens to be on - because they like "the beautiful game" to that extent. Others watch their own team and other games of importance (title deciders, cup finals etc), but for me, I really struggle to watch anything other than Palace, with the tougher England qualifiers and tournament games as about the only other football I watch. Even with the World Cup last summer, I don't think I watched more than an hour of other matches in total across the tournament when at home (I watched Chile v Brazil in a pub as we were out and it was on).
I guess I don't consider myself a football "fan", but a fan of Palace - other matches just bore me within 5 minutes and I end up channel surfing around and popping back every now and then to see the score.
It sounds corny, but I think it is due to the "emotional investment" in supporting Palace, that I get apathetic when watching other teams. If it happens to be on where I am, and I start to watch for one reason or another, then I will probably get drawn in - almost to fit in with others - but getting that initial engagement with non-Palace / England games I just struggle with.
So it got me wondering both how much other people watched football generally (away from Palace), and the reasons for this? Other than the "emotional investment" point above, I don't know why I don't watch other football matches - they just bore me!
