Having seen the host nation get the benefit of several generous decisions in the opening game it got me thinking about some of the unwritten rules in football or the rules that are rarely applied. For instance:
What else is there?
- Keepers are rarely called for being a couple of yards off their line when a penalty is struck.
- Referees seem obliged to 'not ruin the game as a spectacle' when there's a large tv audience. ie De Jong getting away with a yellow for a vicious kung fu kick.
- A yellow card offence doesn't result in a yellow card if it happens in the first few minutes of a game.
What else is there?
