In principle, good, but in practice bad, as I have found that these are simply not robust or resistant to wear and tear enough, on both socket and plug. The socket in the device, is obviously of most concern, if damaged or worn prematurely. The original full size USBs had neither problem.
The charging cable cable on my new Nexus 10 had a similar design and size, but soon it became obvious that the connection was getting worse each time due to wear, when I plugged it in. I had to buy a magnetic surface connector to charge, as this never goes wrong, and causes no wear and tear on any socket.
In my book, small is not always beautiful.
