Thought Alan did well in his post match press release. The comment about Steve Coppell might have been chosen for two reasons: one, to give a compliment to Sir Steve, which in itself was thoughtful and showed a heritage which Pardew understands about Palace in an understated way. The second and most likely reason was a subtle but effective linking of this team with the remarkable group under Coppell. We all know about the success of the Eagles under Copell and how it was achieved. Pardew's timely reminder about wingers and expansive football served to underline the flamboyance of Palace and the way in which the club is anything but a dour footballing outfit. Pulis was great last season but this season we have, almost without noticing it, moved up a gear. Pardew's linking up of the different eras serves to remind us of the history of the club and the thought that the great days are returning, when Crystal Palace was a team to be feared. Well done, Alan, like your style!
