Hello
As the thread title would suggest, we're launching our first (and in many ways I hope, last) paid podcast.
We have a small bunch of wonderful people who have donated, and in some cases continue to donate, to the running costs of our show. This helps immensely but we're in that awkward position now where success has pushed our streaming costs to a level which is hard to sustain when coupled with some equipment upgrades made.
We've pulled the plug on a proposed studio move and cancelled various planned features that would have attracted a cost, but are still currently struggling.
The only real option we have beyond begging is to cease the live aspect of our show. Myself and Mikee are 100% against this idea as we feel the live show is what gives us a different angle to other podcasts that otherwise cover the same ground.
We're not very good at asking for money so instead we thought the way to go would be to do something extra that is entirely optional and would give those generous folk who made the purchase something for their support - something we work really hard on.
After talking it over with the presenting team, we got a very strong view that we should not do this solely to help cover our own costs but also to help out Eagle Heights, home of Kayla the Eagle, with their current financial strife.
I want to be very clear on this - the idea is that we choose to donate 20% of the funds raised to Eagle Heights. We don't want people to give their money to us if the alternative was that they were going to donate striaght to Eagle Heights. That way, what we raise is an extra and not affecting direct donations.
We've got over 2 hours recorded already of content and are doing more tomorrow - so if you have any immediate ideas as to something you'd like us to do, by all means contact us here: To view the link you have to Register or Login
Here's a summary:
Cost: £1
Availalble via "Podbean" - link to follow
Content:
Presenter Q and A's
Best bits of the last 4 years (interspersed with all new chat)
A review of Steve P's appearences - hear just how far we've come and how much of that early vision and drive has been realised.
A chat with Eagle Heights
An appalling quiz
A huge amount of silliness
Much more, TBC
Length: At the moment we're looking upwards of 4 hours of content.
As soon as we release the podcast, we'll update this thread. It would be lovely if people got on board - and don't worry, the content will be just as valid on the day of release as it will be later for those who want to wait until payday to spend their quid!
If everyone who downloads the show through itunes alone purchased this special podcast, we'd be able to run the show for a couple of years and give some real assistance to Eagle Heights in their financial battle.
I'd like to end by thanking all of our donors so far this season. Without you we would have had to make serious concessions to the quality and style of the show. It is what it is because of your generosity and you have our eternal gratitude for that.
There will be a short, regular podcast reviewing the Southampton game released via the usual channels too. We respect freedom of choice!
I really hope nobody is upset by this and whilst I respect any negative views on our decision - the straight up choice is to not buy it. We will continue to do our best to put out weekly free content all season long every year irrespective of how this goes. This is simply an alternative way to ask for donations!
Hol Radio is strictly not for profit and will always remain so. Mainly because it's completely impractical to monetise what we do :)
