Impact of Backroom and Medical Staff

lundi 14 avril 2014

Last week when there was all the speculation about TP being Manager of the Season it was correctly pointed out that our success in getting to 12th is not just about TP but also the player, owners and fans.It occurred to me that the training and back room staff have an influence on overall performance as well. Then when I consulted To view the link you have to Register or Login to see how my Fantasy League squad was holding up I noticed we had a fully fit squad.(Now obviously KG is under treatment) and - yet again - Arsenal have a huge injury list.

The two main influences on an injury list are luck and number of games played. Glenn's ACL and Ramsey's leg fracture are random uncontrollable events.

Number of games played does increase the risk of injury and longer term fatigue - you can probably attribute part of Spurs' and Swansea's dire showing recently to criss-crossing Europe for the Europa League. But is there anything else at work behind Arsenal's list for example - do their back room staff come out worse in comparison to the rest ? Stamina is one area where the right brains should be able to prove they make a difference . In general I would say that Palace have over the years always had pretty fit squads give or take the odd pie-eater here and there.

What do people think - do insiders routinely say that one club's set-up is better than others?? Are there things you can do in training to minimize hamstring injuries for example? Money and facilities are key but are back room staff a real differentiating factor in the Premier League?
