The team flew back from the Wirral after the win at Everton and got in at 2pm on Thursday morning. The players were back at the Beckenham Training Ground Thursday afternoon and will be in again today as they prepare for West Ham tomorrow.
TP was understandable reluctant to talk about the Cardiff issue, but confirmed that the club will respond to the Premier League/FA if required, but will do so in the proper way and not through the media!
He said that a few players had knocks and were a little tired. Joel Ward, Chamakh & Bolasie were mentioned but nothing sounded too serious.
Mariappa came off with a broken nose but 'he will be ok'.
He said the supporters (over 2000 at Everton) have been 'terrific'.
Now that 40 point mark has been reached, they will be talking to the out of contract players. With 3 games this week, it sounds like they will sit down with those concerned sometime next week.
When he originally took over, his biggest concern was what he was going to face, but the 3 or 4 months off helped him focus.
Asked about the Manager of the Year, TP brushed it off and said his choice (throughout all the Leagues)would be Sean Dyche at Burnley because of what he has achieved on a limited budget.
Accused of being a long ball merchant in the past, he said that he always played to the strengths of the players, and with Glenn injured for most of the season and Jerome Cameron a player he described as 'a runner', he has been playing to our strengths with much of our play going down the wings.
Keith Millen & Ben Garner went to the Arsenal v West Ham game on Tuesday before going up to Goodison, and they will be well prepared for the game tomorrow.
He described the club as having 'enormous potential' with over 900,000 people in the area, and it should be possible to build a club that can stay up. He said they need to stay in the Prem for 3 years to build the infrastructure that should keep the club in the Prem for a generation.
TP & SP have yet to discuss next season, but his remit has always been to 'keep the club up this season'. They will look further ahead in the coming weeks.
